Large place for large groups or small groups. Got here early and a nice table outside for the four of us. Nice selections for any budget. Always fully staffed
Server was great and very attentive. Chips and salsa, plenty of them. Then the kids corndogs,, eh a bit over cooked. The wings and fries were good. And the catfish with cajun seasoning , yummy. Spinach and mushrooms quesadilla was good too. Over all, good food and atmosphere. It is a must stop.

Absolutely fabulous place to eat and drink. The different dining sections are truly unique and the atmosphere is very warm and welcoming. A menu "must have" are the onion rings. Get them and do not second guess your decision to do so. For my main entree, I ordered the grilled chicken Cesar salad. It was fantastic. All in all, I would love to get drunk here the next time I visit. It's that good.

The service was good, the atmosphere was very cool, but the food was booooooring. If you like your food to have little to no seasoning and flavor, this place is for you. Steak was overcooked, veggies were undercooked, and everything was bland, bland, bland. To be fair, everything tasted fresh, and I doubt anyone's getting sick here, but I wouldn't be shocked if I found out there were a lot of customers falling asleep from boredom while eating.

Went for dinner on a really nice weekday evening. The service was impeccable. We asked for the table next to us to be reserved as more folks were coming, and they were accommodating. I had a ribeye that was cooked to my liking. Their chocolate dessert with ice cream was great. It tasted like a very decadent brownie with vanilla ice cream on the side. Delicious!!

I am from Illinois and I haven't seen a restaurant in a old cotton mill gin before. I have seen many interesting restaurants but this set up I have never seen before.
I was very happy with my experience during my visit. this restaurant is very unique and I can't imagine you will see much like it. Ordered the 12oz. New York strip steak "medium" and it was cooked perfectly along with my two sides of mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli. All for 20.99 and you got a plate full of food so don't worry about going home hungry.
For 2 people on a Tuesday night our wait for a table was very quick, unfortunately though the wait to get our food it felt like it took forever. I don't blame them to much they were pretty full, only one or two tables were open. Our waitress was great and very helpful. If you have a chance and you're close by try it.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the entire U.S. Located in an old Grist Mill it has a very unique character. The building partly intact, partly in decay. Indoor seating as well as outdoor terraced seating located high above the river. It's heavily treed which helps in the brutal Texas sun.

I"m from NC/SC and happened upon New Braunfels and Gruene by a recommendation from Canadian friends. I love the area. Historic with the longest running dance hall next door and the Guadalupe River just below.

The food for me is good, I like the Guadalupe Chopped Steak. Smothered chopped steak, jalapenos and cheese. Flavorful with mashed potatoes.

Overall the ambience outdoes the food, but I still go every time I'm in the area and just love it.

Great service, fun and romantic outdoor seating area in wooded atmosphere next to the Guadalupe River. The onion rings were amazing. I ordered the baby back ribs and loved them. The restaurant is located in the heart of historic Gruene. Located right next to the oldest country dance hall in the state. Would highly recommend if you are in the area.

It was really good. Had the pulled pork with a garlic hot sauce. Sauce was awesome. Not hot at all, just a really good flavor. The worst thing is the heat, but it's Texas so there's little that can be done.

The Gristmill River Restaurant is a fantastic place to visit. I can't say enough how great the food and the staff are. You feel welcome as soon as you arrive and are well taken care of. And of course the setting where you can eat out on a porch and listen to the river below is out of this world. And the inside sitting is light and cozy. A lace you've got to visit.

What an amazing historic restaurant located by the river.. wait times are not much but food may take some time so order appetizer. Drinks are more heavy on cocktails. Food was great. Parking located in City centre which is half a block

Had to penalize them (3 Stars) for allowing a walk in group take our table on Mother's Day. We waiting for 90 min. and taken to a very nice table in the main restaurant. When we got there, the group that just walked in without waiting sat down. We were then moved to another table, upstairs without a view, next to the ladies bathroom. Luckily the waitress and food saved the 3 Stars.

If Yu have a system, please follow it and don't penalize the customers that honor your system.

We have been going to "Gristmill" for nearly 9 years. We live in Round Rock. I met my West Virginia University college running buddy there about every 6 weeks or so. They have great food, great service and great staff. Every time we are ready to leave, I always ask someone to take a picture of us and they are always willing to do so. Gristmill is a special place for me....

Had a bad experience to start with wrong order, no gravy and another order that got dropped. They brought fresh plates out and took the wrong orders off the check and gave free desserts. They made it right. Will go back though.

Great overall experience except for one thing. First off the outside is simply stunning to look at. We waited 45 minutes and I didn't mind at all. They have live music playing and tables to sit at. Plus it's kind of neat they write you name on a chalkboard to call you up next. The service was great and so was the food. My only gripe is that my gf steak and mine were cooked opposite of what we asked. I doubt that happens very often here and I still enjoyed everything else. Mash potatoes are amazing also.

Placing this review to counter the fella (George A.) who ordered WELL-DONE steaks (Should be a felony in TEXAS!) and still complained when the manager took them off the bill. There are tons of local spots that sell beef-jerky in a climate-controlled environment...try eating there. The food and staff at Gristmill is some of the best. Also try eating at "Down on Grayson" and "The Josephine St. Cafe" in the area. Owned by the same fella (and daughter I think I heard) with equally delicious food.

The food is the best I've had in this unique historical town. The staff are so nice and friendly! I have celiac disease and have a very had time finding somewhere to eat. It's similar to a peanut allergy. I won't go into anaphylactic shock but I will be hospitalized and its not fun.. I ordered the T-bone steak and the waiter recommended something a little bit better and I went with that. I did explain to the waiter what I was allergic to bread, flour tortillas, wheat, gluten and any cross-contamination. I did get my food but it did have garlic bread on it. I send it back and the manager came and apologized about that and is having the cook make a hole new plate for me. The manager ask what I'm allergic to I explain it to him and he said okay I will make sure everything comes out perfect. I did not get sick! I was so happy and very thankful for the staff to be so accommodating to me! We did have dinner here twice. I will definitely come back!

Very pretty with good food. This is Texas and they are open air, so if you need AC go somewhere that has it.

Irritatingly hard to reserve for a large group. No restaurant want large walk-in groups. PERIOD. I had one of 30-40 people and they told me, we don t take reservations. I said they may want to ask a manager because there s no way they want that as a walk-in and I d find another restaurant that can accommodate.

We ended up booking a private room but the process is so difficult I likely won t use them again for events.

Yum!

The building is super cool and is worth a visit. The food is average at best and was completely underwhelming. The onion rings, which theyre known for, came out raw and we had to ask for new ones and when those came out they were much better but could've used seasoning and a dipping sauce. The chicken fried steak, which again theyre known for, was average at best, not worth getting again. The jalapeno margarita was great so maybe just come for a drink and to check out the atmosphere.

Beautiful location and restaurant. Be ready for a wait, although with free live music in a old rustic german settled town it wasn't too bad! Food was great. Staff was helpful and kind. Would recommend.

Gristmill is as always a true pleasure. It's by the river, in an amazing small town, and great service. The food is just always very tasty and the service is speedy. If you're in the area and get a chance to come here, you won't regret it.

Food was fine & servers pleasant, but no cooling, and restrooms we're quite an outdoor hike from the dining areas. The heat was sweltering. Not wonderful to have soaking wet clothes after dining there. Would not recommend dining there during warm weather months.
