Food was not up to par like it used to be, some items were so bland. I used to love coming here while in gruene but just went to gruene last weekend and made sure to try a different restaurant and was pleased I did.

The food was okay, I mean basic food, basic flavor. Nothing special with the food. What makes this place special is the view, the history, and atmosphere. It was a huge restaurant with ample seating, inside and out. The views and atmosphere were very nice. You cant beat a shaded outdoor seating, especially in Texas.

Gristmill has always been a special place for me and the food was amazing as always. Our visit this time was so much more than a birthday dinner and will always be a 1st choice for special occasions.
P.S. I said YES!!

Do not be fooled by what you see from the street, or by what you see as you approach this fine establishment. This restaurant is HUGE! They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Despite the crowd you may see listening to the live music, waiting to see their name appear on the chalk board, it isn't too bad of a wait. The steak was great, the onion rings are well battered and outside there is an atmosphere as the sun sets that you can't quite pin.

Mediocre food, long wait times, no air conditioning. The last time I was here we got a table immediately but the service was still incredibly slow. The building is open to the outdoors, so you sit and sweat for an hour while you wait for your food. My opinion is that this place is seriously overrated.

You can't beat the vintage atmosphere or waterfront scenery. Service is reasonable considering how busy it can get. Still I would rather go to the Gruene River Grill where the food is much better.

Come here every time I come to Gruene. It's the most popular restaurant in the area in my opinion. It's right off the Guadalupe River and next door to the iconic Gruene Hall! Highly recommend giving it a try, even if there is a line and wait.

Fantastic! Everything about the place was amazing. The waitress had a great personality and did her job above and beyond. Literally. She recognized the Tuna steak was overcooked and re-ordered another before I even knew. The manager brought out the medium rare and I could not have been happier.

food was pretty good and decently seasoned I had the chicken fried steak. very affordable nice meal. the scenery is fantastic everything a Texas river has to offer. it does get a little hot/stuffy being as everything is outside. the
door to the kitchen needs some wd40 cuz it was squeaking non stop. over all a great experience.

Best baby back ribs I have had in the USA. Great service, friendly atmosphere. Music provided by Bret Graham was a piece of heaven as we sat under the live oak trees. Put the Gristmill River Restaurant on your bucket list.

As a group (party of 8), the food at the Gristmill was decent to just okay. A party member's med-rare steak was med-well. My hamburger with queso wasn't what I hoped either. All of the queso drained off the burger and saturated my bottom More

I have been at gristmill river once before, and I carried great memories about this pace back then. Unfortunately, our visit this time was a whole different experience. The waiter was super nice, helpful and friendly. Although, the food was less than average, and the cocktails were undrinkable!
There were customers on the table behind us harassing the waiter not stopping about her mask, and asking her to remove it, so they can tip her, and write good reviews about the place, fortunately, the waiter stood up for herself; Telling them nicely and firmly that she is doing her best at her work, and masking up is a part of her job.

Beautiful views, I know many who love the food. Personally, I find the food just ok. The chicken fried chicken is pretty bland, and the gravy was kinda sweet. Not a fan. Onion rings are pretty good.

Beautiful place, great food and great service. The location being in a old cotton gin, now being repurposed into a restaurant makes for a gorgeous venue for a date, special occasion or just a family dinner.

Chicken Diablos were a little disappointing... This is appetizer is a piece of jalapeno-chicken sausage wrapped in bacon and smothered in bbq sauce. I maybe should have opt'd for the fried mushrooms.

Great Steak and atmosphere. Make sure you ask for outside river seating. However, if you have Ciliac ...make sure you are careful when ordering to inquire about cross-contamination. We had a slight exposure issue experience. Other than that it was great...just be proactive when odering.

If you're going to stop by Gruene Texas I highly recommend that you stop by this little Texas Jam. The views are amazing the drinks are cold and the customer service is warm.

The restaurant sits atop a small hill nestled in a very high traffic area next to Gruene Hall and other cool local spots. It's a great Sunday place to take the family to get some seared ahi tuna salads or just stop by and have some drinks and enjoy the views next to the river.
