Christmas dinner, beautifully cooked. The place was full but the servers were lovely and didn't rush us at all
A large, old public House in Godshill. A haven of tranquility in a busy tourist area. Good food, reasonably priced, good service, friendly staff. Large garden as well when the weather is clement.
Delicious food. Was quiet when I was in there, but i can imagine it gets very busy. Conveniently positioned just by a local bus stop.. was very easy to access by public transport
The quality of their food is terrific. We have been to this pub on a number of occasions through the years and everything has always great.
Went there for a Sunday carvery last week and the food was splendid. We went again this week, this time with a group of 6, and food was still such a good standard. We good a host of different meals and no one had anything to complain about. Serving sizes were very good! This time we stayed for pudding which was quite sickly but so nice! The priced here are also pretty reasonable!
Excellent, have been coming here for many years, never disappoints, good food at value for money prices, great service.
food was fine: we had one beef burger and one vegetarian burger, both ok (3*). apple crumble was very good (4*). covid-19 protection measures ridiculously absent: ordes taken at the counter, with crowds of customers queueing and socialising there, at the expense of those having their tables next to it. nobody wearing masks, no one way system for patrons. felt on the edge from the moment we were seated to the time we left. afraid this is a no-go at present times
Upside.....Lovely food. Child friendly. Nice big garden. Spacious. Good menu.
Downside....long queues at peak times.
Brilliant service, great food and staff are wonderful and so friendly.
Really good place for food and the family bouncy castle and a maze with a fun play park also. The mint choc chip cake was really nice and they let me change ice cream flavours
An absolutely lovely pub with a warm welcome, and a great selection of beers. The cloudy apple cider is brilliant. Also, very generous portions of food when you order a meal.
A great place to visit when in Godshill.
Food was brilliant will be back for more great food
Great food, friendly pub and they cater for gluten free.
have been 3 times now always good service food amazing good prices as well. will go again and again
We were actually headed for The Traverer just a few doors down which has highest ratings of any pub on the island but with two children in tow my partner was swayed by the offer of a maze, play area and bouncy castle. Staff were nice, food on menu was bulk standard but specials board had good options which came fast and were hearty fare. Maze was ok, a bit easy for adults but kids enjoyed racing around, play area was not so good, bouncy castle was small but again kids loved it, there was a big grass garden to run around in too, so although I was disappointed we didn't get to go to the Traverer I have to give a good review. I got the feeling they were acutely aware of their completion so were working hard to be competitive and it worked.
Quite nice, just a quick drink to pass the time till our coach left
A great basic family pub. Vist every week with the mountaon bike group. Very welcoming.
Nice pub good beer & food and most important the service was good
Best family restaurant and excellent good to taste.
Myself and jon bignell love the food the atmosphere and the staff are smashing all in all a great place to spend a relaxing joyful day or evening I live in Newport and I visit the griffin very regularly love the place
Fantastic family pub, ideal for kids with bouncy castle, maze and play area
Went here last night with all the family and the family dog. Food was excellent and really tasty. Clean plates for everyone. My Grandkids really enjoyed running round the maze and the kiddies play area. When we used to come on regular holidays to the Isle of Wight this was always a good place to go and eat, it's nice to see it is still as good. Definitely go here for a meal if in or near Godshill.
We had an evening meal here on 2nd of November. I had 3 Hunter Chicken meal and it was the best one I have had on the Isle of Wight. A really good amount of food on the plate and it was all excellent. We had a family gathering there in August and it was absolutely heaving in there, but despite that fact, we all got our meals inside 15 minutes and the quality and portions were very good. We can thoroughly recommend The Griffin.
It was a quiet Sunday early evening, pub was not too busy, friendly staff and quick service, ordered the 5oz isle of wight rump as it was reasonably priced which came with chips, onion rings, salad and grilled tomatoes, was disappointed that the steak was as tough as old boots, the rest of the meal was lovely though.
Really nice food and service but could do with a clean
What lovely meal we had the owner steve and staff are lovely will definitely go again highly recommend
We all ways go there for the carvery on Sunday when we are over there . 2017 We are now living in Newport and are here more often.
Cozy place service excellent very friendly just a slip up on chips where there wasn't any on plate.
Perfect menu friendly staff.Cater well for children
Excellent food great beer and brilliant service made very welcome
Really nice looking with great outdoor area suitable for all the family. Really good food, friendly staff and drink selection. Would happily return
great place, good amount of free parking, food is lovely, outdoor area, play area for children inside and outside play area, friendly staff.
Great little pub, staff were friendly and had the best food we found on the island. Wish I had found it sooner would have eaten there more.
The maze was good for the kids and food was presented lovely.
But the staff were scruffy, during virus they were not wearing masks, visors or gloves. the garden was messy and did not present very well.
Staff had no uniform, wearing different branded clothing, not their own, seemed a little unprofessional.
On our visit to the isle of wight we needed a child friendly pub which served good food. This ticked all of the boxes, food was served quickly and friendly staff
Nice place, did have to wait a while and remind but think the Christmas parties took priority however we will go again
Food is all ways delish every time we come here no matter what the season
Had a few days holiday called in for lunch.had a lovely meal, great value.Well worth calling in.
Lovely family pup roast on Wednesday , Saturday good value
Had an excellent family meal today. Carvery was superb - all fresh and tasty with moist turkey and an excellent range of well-cooked vegetables. Everyone was very happy with their meals. There is a good range of desserts included in the 2 course option. Well worth a visit. Don t miss this gem. We will be back x
When we visited here, we went for a Sunday carvery and it was delicious. The place was super busy, and the carvery only had one gentleman working on it, the poor guy was run off his feet. Really should have had someone to help him for an hour or so to help with the rush during lunch time, but he certainly handled it well. Hats off to him.
We absolutely loved our meals the best pub (actually better than pub) I've even eaten (I'm 65). The staff could not do enough for you. Very glad to recommend The Griffin Family Inn *****
Richard
Good for kids, food average - not bad. Outside needed a bit of a tidy up

Fantastic place and friendly staff. The place has a cool medieval look to the outside while cosy inside. Has a great maze in the garden to explore. The food was good, I had the glazed ham and others had the steak. The chocolate brownie was lovely.
Would recommend highly!
