A Sacramento institution, the Firehouse never disappoints. We celebrated a birthday with cocktails, dinner and dessert on the patio with a shot of espresso There are many upscale places in Sac that try a bit too hard and lack the aged charm and history of the Firehouse.

First time there. First thing you notice is the Relaxing atmosphere.
Staff: Very active and they are all over the place. If you need help to order or for anything you will not look far or long, they are always around.
They are also very friendly. I love my food with fresh crushed black pepper, but they do not leave the pepper mill/grinder on the table, so the waitress felt that i wanted more, so she went and crushed some for me in a small plate! How thoughtful, considerate and generous!
Food: the picture attached was for my wife order. she Ordered SeaBass and she loved it. I ordered the Classic 16 oz Ribeye steak (medium well) and it was on the spot; tender and juicy.
Dessert: I ordered the Cappuccino Mousse Cake (and I am a picky person when it comes to sweets) and this was the best I have ever eaten anywhere!

Compliments to the chef and his team and compliments to all the other staff who made this night an amazing one

Returned for our 1 year anniversary after hosting our wedding at the Firehouse. I 100% reccomend the venue and the restaurant for any special occasion. Always fantastic food and wonderful service.

I brought my girlfriend here for a date on her birthday, very fancy, the service was excellent, great staff and amazing food she had the ravioli and I had the halibut, best halibut I've ever had.
I highly recommend this place for a date or birthday, call ahead for reservations and they ask you what the occasion is.

This was our first time here for lunch in the courtyard and it was so good. It was way more reasonably priced than I anticipated and the service was great. I can't wait to come again for lunch

Dissapoiinting experience. Normally one of the best restaurants in Sacramento but tonight it did not live up to standards. My wife and I both had the same first course, goat cheese ravioli. The two plate plates were quite different. Mine had a few sun dried tomatoes and an abundance of sauce while my wifes had very little sauce and a lot of sun dried tomatoes. My wife had a petite filet with shallot mashed potatoes. The potatoes had the consistency of powdered potatoes and her steak, although cooked properly seemed to have sat under a heat lamp. I had salmon with mushroom risotto. The salmon was excellent but the risotto was dry and gummy. The coup de grace was my dessert, creme brulee was curdled. Service was just adequate and we waited 25 minutes to receive our desserts after the cleared our dinner platrs. We probably will not return.

This gem has been one of Sacramento's best for a very long time. The building was constructed as a firehouse in1855. In 1921, it was closed and abandoned. The Sacramento water front became one of the State's grittier Skid Rows. Fifty eight years ago, someone with a vision took a huge risk and converted the building into a fine dining restaurant, right in the middle of what was Skid Row. It remained the only light in a dark place for over a decade until the City decided that the Firehouse was on to something and redeveloped the water front where the City had first been a center of trade and commerce. . For example, the transcontinental railroad stopped here, with passengers and goods being put on paddlewheelers to San Francisco. The food is fabulous and the courtyard, shaded by trees is lovely. Eat there if it not raining or cold. It's pleasant even on hot days with it's natural shade.

Ate here for a corporate dinner. The places my company picks out can sometimes be hit or miss, but this place was a big hit. One of the best steaks I've ever had. The fixings with it were all great too. I don't make it to Sac often, but next time I do, this will be where I go to get something good to eat.

My son, and his most beautiful and awesome wife, took my husband and I here for dinner. That was on Saturday, it's now Friday, and I am still thinking about this restaurant! And I am sure I will be thinking about it for many more days, and months. My husband and I love to eat out. We have been very fortunate to have dined at many awesome and amazing establishments. We love great food, and have spent a lot of time searching out great places to eat. I have been very, very lucky to have taken classes in some of the finest places, and I am very thankful for that. I am 62 years old -my father also taught us to search out great food and experience what life has to offer. I am so blessed. And so I am with The Firehouse. We went there for my birthday, and my husbands. My son and daughter in law took us there. We could have not had a better server/waiter. Just amazing to watch someone so dedicated to his craft - he also had a "staff" I think of two others, who wisked away the empty dishes, and one who replaced our water. I really felt like royalty. Everything was just first class. The sorbet between courses, was something I remembered from long ago. Not only was it a wonderful, unforgetable experience for us, we had my grandkids also, so they learned a lot too! Food was exceptional. From the appetizer which was pieces of steak, a crab cake, and some kind of pork that just melted in your mouth. We all had filet minion, and now my grandkids found out that they loved it - will have to make it for them someday. The croucquette (sp) potato was above spectacular -my daughter in law and I will be attempting to make this ourselves. This is an expensive restaurant, expect to do not only an entree but an appetizer, and soup or salad. My soup was amazing - cream of asparagas - just awesome. I love the attention to detail. This is a real treat for someone special. It is NOT your everyday affair...and worth every penny, dollar, etc. Save up, and enjoy! Kudos to The Firehouse.....and thank you for my special server! he was AMAZING Just saw another review, and I am sure we had the Pork Belly appetizer - again amazing!!!

Wowowow where to begin. Let me start off with the good and saving grace for this establishment. Theres an Irish Fella who is a waiter there at the restaurant and he saved the night in terms of his service to our table. Whenever there was a mistake made on part of the restaurant he quickly remedied it. There were a few mistakes such as a miscommunication in a drink order so he gave it to our table on the house and brung the correct beverage. I asked a few questions on the meat and shrimp and he gave me answers on them. I ordered a medium rare filet mignon and received a very rare steak. He took it back to the kitchen and had it reheated and replenished some items I had already eaten before hand. So I didn't catch your name bud, but you know who you are and I thank you for it. Now onward to the bad. Besides what you have read about the reheating and such, there was something about the menu that wasn't to par to my tasting. On the menu it said prawns but what I received was definitely much smaller than I was told or had assumed. The three additional prawn selection is what I'm talking about here. They were much smaller in size. I was told they would be U-10 per pound for those that don't know this is a much larger sized shrimp. What I received was 3 shrimp in the 21-25 per pound area and thats being generous. Do not get the prawns. I asked about the beef grades at 50 dollars + I would expect Prime beef. He was honest about the ribeye plate at i believe it was 54 dollars a plate being Choice grade which is not worth 54 dollars. I was then told that the filet however is Prime. So I ordered that and I believed it was 59 dollars for the plate. To my tasting I believe that the steak was not prime at all. It was not as tender and juicy as other prime steaks I have had. In fact because the steak was extremely rare, I was able to cut into the steak and look to see if there were any veins of fat in the steak. To my expectations after having a few bites, it was indeed not prime. My final word here is that, the drinks were great I especially enjoyed the Bullet Train. And the service was great (thank you Irish fella). But the food was not up to par for dishes that were 40$+ a plate.

I was best man of a wedding party hosted here. Our point of contact (Randy) was incredibly helpful throughout the day and anticipated many needs before we knew we had them. He was able to accommodate very well for a couple things that I personally hadn't planned ahead for and went above and beyond in every other way. I had neglected to print out my speech notes so I timidly asked him if he would be willing to print it out for me if I e-mailed it to him. He found me in the crowd a short while later with two copies in different font sizes, whichever I preferred. It's very obvious he and the staff here want your event to be excellent, and in our case they succeeded.

Great ambiance, the wait staff was on point. I loved every course of our meal, especially the creme brulee. The menu has a well rounded variety of food and the prices vary enough that anybody could eat there.

Have enjoyed several excellent meals here over many years but my most recent visit was disappointing with just OK American/California/steakhouse food, very high prices and lax service. Still, lunch in the tree-shaded outdoor patio is an experience not to be missed.

I celebrated my PhD this evening in this great restaurant. Well it was a superb evening and the venue was absolutely the reason for this strong evening. The crew helped in a lovely style, the cooking was great and my guests were very happy. We shall no dout come back again for more events. Thank you very much.

This venerable Old Sacramento restaurant is legendary for its top-quality food, massive wine list, historic upscale dining room, and exceptional sercice. Yes, it's pricey, but considering how amazing the food is, and how special and pampered you feel in the elegant setting, it's great. You can view the full menus online so you know ahead of time what it costs and what you might like.

Lobster, steaks, seafood ... anything you order is going to be delicious. The service has you feel so pampered, making this a perfect spot to impress a date or take someone out for a special occasion.

Their Happy Hour is a great way to dine here for a low price, and sample their offerings (I recommend the fish tacos!). Easy valet parking, but since Old Sac is such a delight to walk in, park on the street a few blocks away and enjoy the stroll there and back.

I love this place so much! I hadn t been in years but recently started going back. Sundays are my favorite because the bartender makes the most exceptional cocktails and treats you like royalty if you sit at the bar. I can t remember his name for some reason (I m embarrassed about that) but he greets us like family. The food is always great but this past Sunday I had the Oregon line caught salmon special and me and my boyfriend both thought it was one of the most amazing dishes we ve ever eaten!

I always feel so special there. The food and the service is like a warm hug and the atmosphere is just beautiful!

We pulled the boat up to the dock and walked up. Thanks for taking us straight off the river and making us feel fancy See you soon!

Hmmm very simple menu. Me and my party decided to leave after being seated. We were looked at as if we couldn't afford it. We instead went to dine at Morton's Steakhouse. By far best steak I've ever tasted.

The food was great. Had the 9oz Beef filet and it was just wonderful. I usually get medium rare, but the meat here tends to run pink so I had medium and it was delicious. The service was top notch and the and the atmosphere inside is very beautiful. Although it is pricey, definitely worth the experience. Highly recommend!

I've been to this restaurant several times over the past few years. I've never really been impressed with the food. Chewy chicken and crunchy steamed veggies are not my favorite expensive meal.

Was in from Miami. Wanted to watch football on Sunday at 10am. Really nice.place in Downtown Sacramento. Service was great. $12 unlimited mimosas till 2pm was awesome. Food quality is clean. The only reason I did not give it a 5 was because 2 dishes came out cold. Otherwise I will be back

This is an old school & "old money" type environment where everything is prepared to order and they mean it when they say, 'If it's not perfect just let us know and we'll replace it" I sent an expensive steak back that was medium instead of medium rare like I ordered and there was no hesitation from the waiter who even offered to give me another dinner salad while I waited. My guests meals arrived as ordered to perfection and as always the meal and service was impressive. Given the expense I reserve dining here for good customers, close friends from out of town, or special occasions. Maybe I'm cheap but I never took my kids here when in their youth they wouldn't have appreciated this level of cuisine.

Crown jewel of Old Sacramento. Polished, spacious, Victorian setting. Polished staff. Tasting menu and wine pairing or a pastry and coffee, or Irish coffee, or Mexican coffee... it's a wonderful place to spend some time. Valet parking is available.

I have not been here yet but am giving a two star because you can t trust these reviews. Most of them say the same thing. Good quality meal and reminds me of a place I ate in insert city name . Really?! That many people all saying it reminds them of another restaurant in another city. And all the cities are different. Firehouse needs to manage their reviews better and not try to pay for false reviews to boost their rating. Instead, just make sure you are serving the best food and giving the best service. That will ensure you high ratings indeed. I am visiting my son for my birthday in June and was thinking about this place because the menu looks great but now I am not sure. I will have to try and look for real reviews.

One word to describe this place, "elegance." The moment I walked into the place I knew I came to a special restaurant. The interior design reminded me of a rich, luxurious southern France restaurant. Saying this place is extravagant would be an understatement. Everything from the food on the menu, bar, waiters, customer service, and music played made me feel important.

The evening out for dinner started amazing, this place has valet service! I hate parking and finding open parking spots, so having the luxury of a valet attendant take my car and park for me was pretty cool. The valet guy jut took my phone number down, and texted me a link to help notify him of my car getting retrieved when I was ready to leave.

I had dinner on a Friday night there, it was busy. What do you expect though? I was very satisfied with the level of service and attention to detail the staff had. I never once had to ask for a refill. Whenever my cup was empty, I had a new one within five minutes.

Without a question in my mind, I will be returning to this place in the future. If you need a place to eat with a significant other or your family, this restaurant is the place to go. Old Sac has plenty of good places to eat, but the best bang for your buck is at the Firehouse. It's worth it.

I went there for a Best Friend's Wedding. It was quite the ambiance. Certainly demonstrated a measure of beauty and elegance that fit the wedding reception quite well. The staff was very friendly. The food was very tasty. The drinks were well-made that goes especially for the cocktails. If I live in California I would certainly have more events here and definitely eat there on a regular basis but alas I am from the East Coast. I look forward to going back there one day

My husband and I were there celebrating our 17th anniversary and I would have to say the place is stunning. Very elegant restaurant in the historic Old Sacramento. The perfect place to celebrate our big day. He ordered the 9 oz filet and I ordered the salmon. They were both very tender, Juicy, and DELICIOUS!!!I never had anything like it. The service was GREAT! I would definitely recommend this beautiful place.. September 11, 2016

The service was pretty good, the food was okay. The problem was that several tables came in after us, but received, ate, paid and left before we even got our entrees. Once we got our entrees, the plates were all steaming hot (even the the fish). Having worked in food service previously, this generally means that the order has been under a heat lamp for a long time. I have had better steaks at Black Angus. Regardless, I seriously doubt that we would ever go back.

Well, near to downtown. Old Sac it is. We were there for a success Lunch with the team and it was a rich, lush and elegant experience. Its huge from inside and the courtyard is pretty cool for a lunch time. The ambiance is attractive and upscale styled. The waiters were friendly and attentive.
small menu and less crowded for lunch. The food is a bit pricey and less in quantity, however of the best quality and the dressings are high class.
They have a large bar too. This place can be good for a dinner date and also for a wedding party.
