The Continental Club Review

It's always a great time at The Continental Club. They have great live music and really friendly staff. It's my favorite place to hear music in Austin.

Got to go to this SoCo icon any chance we get! So don't skip ever. Crooks in January will not be missed.

I don't really go to bars, but I went to this one with a friend. It looks classical, and there's a nice band there too. The music is said to be Texan. When we arrived, it wasn't crowded. But when the band started singing, the place got crowded quickly.

Small place but fun way to hear some live music in Austin

An Austin staple - we came two nights in a row because the music was great and the bar is so fun! We'll be back asap! Most beautiful bartender I've ever seen and affordable drinks and cover.

Cool intimate venue. Great music. The crowd likes to treat the place like a music venue so don't expect to go to the bar and have a conversation through the music.

Went twice on Saturday. The matinee set was great and free. But the late night set was horrendous! Paid the cover and got inside and what the band lacked in talent (and that was a lot) they a attempted to make up in volume. Had one drink and left disappointed.

Just come here. Monday nights are when the P brothers play and that in and of itself warrants a visit to this venue. Great great band, hard to get to the front for service but we ll priced if you make it out with a drink.

I never miss a chance to see James McMurtry and to be able to finally see his Wednesday night midnight set at The Continental made the trip to Austin complete.

Go to the Gallery next door for a better time. They're sister bars but one is trying too hard and the other isn't trying at all. Guess it's a judgement call but the Gallery has a good bartender and a Ping Pong table.

Dark interior would be good for a date. They have live music, and cheap drinks.

We could not come to Austin and not visit the Continental Club. Its reputation as an awesome music venue is wide spread. The have a happy hour Monday through Friday from opening to 7pm.

This is a fun dive bar that has great music and cheap drinks. Dress was relaxed and casual. Seats are scarce so if sitting is important arrive early. If you don't arrive early you will be standing the entire evening. Standing is not a problem if you enjoy connecting with the energy the room. There was plenty of dancing and lots of smiles. The service was friendly and quick.

Great small club venue for music. Saw the "Peterson Brothers Band" and they nailed it! Great funky R&B. Come early if you need to sit down.

Great place to see a live band. The crowd was older (more our age) compared to the college kids on 6th. Good service.

Was 100 times better than 77 Degrees.

Can be a little crowded at times, but The Continental ALWAYS has cool bands.

Spent five straight nights at the Continental Club watching Southern Culture on the skids the band Rock the bartenders and waitresses kicked ass everybody from The Back Door Man to the Steve the owner was excellent

This is my "Cheers". Yes, it is listed as the best Dive Bar in the US, but it's got a new coat of paint!

The bar is very popular with live country music. Great place to be on weekend. Definately would go back.

Friday night's happy hour was great, as was the band. Our waitress was fast and efficient - and cheerful! - even though the place was slammed.

Dude, do I even NEED to review this gem? It's legendary. It's like reviewing the Eiffel Tower, or Yosemite.

If you're in Austin, and you want to REALLY do Austin stuff, you have to hit at least the Continental and the Broken Spoke, period. The music is phenomenal, the staff are great, and it's got more fun history than the Alamo. Wednesdays often sees the Hot Club of Cowtown playing, and that's going to result in as much smiling as most people will do in weeks. The rest of the week is similarly excellent, with regulars and guest appearances. Who knows who you'll see in the audience too!

We had a great night out. Started with a blues band downstairs and finished with a jazz band upstairs.

I went twice. The first time I was told to leave or pay the cover of $8 because some random performer was playing. It's cool I understand the business tactic however I did not appreciate being told by 3 people about the cover charge in a matter of 30 mins. I went in for one beer!! Other than that, the bar had a warm vibe, drinks were good, decent priced-- which is why I went back the second time.

A-MAZING. Such good music. Good drink prices. The live music though..so awesome. They have covers (ours was $8 on Sunday night) but well worth it. Drinks are about $6 (obviously depending). Will definitely go back!

This was the perfect experience for real live music, great drinks and a comfortable nightlife. Saw Whitney Rose perform, so perfect.

We had a great experience when we stumbled into the upstairs Gallery and the Thursday night songwriters residency with Bonnie Whitmore. Her guest that evening was Susan Gibson. Both fun ladies, great artists and writers! What a joy!

Fantastic Monday Happy Hour show with the Peterson Brothers. Those kids can play some guitar.

I come here for a variety of events, art openings, dance parties and fundraisers. I love the liquor and beer selection. I love that the keep drinking water available at all times. I like to decor or the space the benches and seating. When there is a dance party the seats give to a great resting vantage spot to people watch. The sound system is top notch also. I like that they were able to entertain two separate music genres in the two rooms. I love the artwork I see every time I go.

Iconic club in Austin, Texas. Imagine the equivalent of the famed CBGB's of New York. A must.

Not a lot of seating or room to dance, but that makes it cozier, imo. Good show!

Fantastic place to see music in a small venue, just be prepared to wait for drinks & get mashed while watching the show. There is probably going to be the obligatory drunk, pretentious ass that thinks that sitting is a good idea during a packed show& hates you for blocking his view ...

Great venue, great music. Staff soso. Doesn't help that they kick you out to charge cover when the next band is up. Kind of soured our fun.

i called them, asking if they still booked guitarist bill frizell, and the current management didnt know who i was talking about.

Being in Austin one of the best known live music scenes in the US, I felt that if I didn't see some live music on my visit would be a catastrophic failure. So on my last full day in Austin, one of the main things on my list was to go see some live music, and the continental club was on the top of my list of where to go. Continental Club is a great and intimate place to watch music.

Saw a great band here last week. Real intimate environment. The sound system was great. Highly recommend.
