MacDill AFB near Tampa is a secure area to us as a retired Air Force Family able to park our Motor Home for up to 180 days at a reasonable cost, knowing there is a high security gate to gain access 24x7 thanks to our vigilant Security Police manning the gate and patrolling all the streets and the Gulf Bay Area.

Planned to stay in the Famcamp for the entire winter season due to the proximity to the Tampa VA. The Army took my spine and spit me out for decades as I fought for VA benefits. Finally got my benefits within the past year. Since the VA intentionally made me homeless in 2016, I came to Tampa to get everything worked out with them. Was making very good progress with the VA in Tampa. However my spinal injuries were completely exasperated due to being forced to move my RV to different spots within the Famcamp every two weeks. When I spoke with Famcamp management about it, they were very unaccommodating. Staying on MacDill proved to be much more of an albatross than a benefit!

Also the pricing at the BX and commissary was MORE THAN WALMART just off base. What ever happened to discounted pricing within the AAFES system? It used to be a benefit too....which now appears to be gone...why?

I was really looking forward to, and very excited ...

I was really looking forward to, and very excited about this year's, 2016 MacDill AFB Air Show. In fact, I drove up from Miami, and planned to spend the night in Bradenton, not far away; so, I could also attend on Sunday.

I don't miss many shows, and I 'snap' a lot of professional pictures.

Shows with 'static displays', at airfields are, as far as I'm concerned, the only way to go.

In driving to the show on I-275 I didn't notice any signs or directions to the base, and so I passed it by 10-or-15 miles before recognizing my mistake.

Not good...

I got back on track and found my way on the road in, but also found I was gonna' be in traffic for an hour, or so.

Before getting 'IN' I was redirected by a policeman who told me the 'show was 'off' and I was directed out of the area.

I don't panic about things like this, and I still had another day to attend the show, and after all, it was lightly raining.

When I got back to Bradenton, I saw the 'Show, on the TV news, and it was, in fact, going ON.

That bothered me a bit!

On Sunday I modified my strategy to leave a little later, and maybe mitigate the early traffic. After all, now I knew how to get there.

So, after another hour in traffic, I made it to the front gate.

The police had great control of the situation, and they directed me to the right, which I assumed was another gate.

YES...!

But, no, I soon realized I was being directed OUT of the area and back to the road I came in on.

Way to go MacDill Airshow...

...2 days, a drive-up from Miami, and directed OUT, rather than IN to the big show.

When I realized I was leaving, instead of being invited - in - to the 'show', I stopped and sucked-down a Pabst tall-boy just to asuage my effin' disappointment!

I won't recommend this 'Airshow experience to-or-for anybody.

Running on the track here is like walking on clouds made of bunnies. I force myself onto TDYs to MacDill just so I can go running along the beach on the rubbery dream that is the MacDill running trails. Come for CENTCOM, stay because you forgot to drink water, then got dehydrated and died in the sweltering Florida heat.

It's from the 2018 MacDill Air Force Base Air Show and like always it was an absolutely wonderful time with plenty of sponsored events and the most amazing acrobatic pilots in the United States of America. I didn't want to forget to mention all the service members who put all this together to demonstrate US taxpayer money in the might in The Bravery of the United States armed forces while keeping almost 250,000 citizens safe at air show. On a note xheck weather because shade is limited and so are items you can enter with and extra sunblock cant hurt frail skin..

Stationed here 2008-2014. The base was undergoing quite a rejuvenation while i was there and upgrading a lot of buildings on base. This base gets hit hard by snow birds which can prolong trips to the bx or commissary during those "winter" months. The surrounding area and population outside those gates are incredible with supporting the military. pretty good assignment.

MacDill Air Force Base is an amazing military establishment. The atmosphere and personnel are both friendly and welcoming.
The unique men and women who make up SOCOM teams are some of the most dedicated and professional individuals I've ever working with. They have hand picked the best of the best from our nation's military.
I have never seen another multi-organizatonal group with such amazing qualities. It has been an honor and privilege to have had the opportunity to work alongside these talented people.
The SOCOM teams have literally dedicated their lives to keeping our nation and ever citizen safe and away from harm..."Foreign or Domestic".

Top-notch air show! Went in 2014. Traffic is a horrorfest though. We got to Britton Plaza to take the bus to the show at noon and finally got to the airfield at 2pm. It was well worth it in the end. The Thunderbirds rocked! Its so awesome to think we have that amazing technology in the sky protecting our country. Seeing all the planes and helicopters on the airfield was a great experience too. Definitely go if they have it next year!

Scheduled for an ID appointment. And had to wait over 2 hours why are you scheduling appointments like this when you can t handle the capacity. Where is the supervisor at. People here is waiting over two hours past their schedule appointments and it seems walk ins or going by faster. And nobody is being updated as in the wait time.

This installation harbors known felons. I was accused of sexually assaulting a woman who belonged to this installation. After investigation revealed that not only did she lie but enlisted others to lie on her behalf and committed larceny by stealing personal possessions of mine they declined to prosecute her and granted her immunity for her actions.

Very cool place with unique airshows and a lot more. If you have a military ID, you can visit the Exchange store and some restaurants that the air force base has to offer. It has many nice, private beaches, and RV park, and even a boat parking area. There is a bowling centre, and more fun activities to offer! If you have a military ID and are on a trip, or in the area and are looking for something to do, I recomend coming!

I work at the Class Vl. I also work with a bunch of great people. There are but a few of us from the old crew. We have a great crew. I've been there over 8years. (class 6) January will be
10yrs. I get to see customers leave for months then come back. I also see our soldiers come and go. I see new faces almost everyday. I am sad that I cant see my customers as much as I used to. I have cancer and this bag is very very hard on me. My doc. told me I have to quite working until he says I can go back. I miss my co-workers and friends alot. I miss seeing the soldiers that are stationed at MaCDill. I love what I do, I try to get people to smile or even laugh. I'm very proud of our Soldiers. If it weren't for our soldiers, I wouldn't be working at the best store...CLASS VI.
Everyone be safe out there. Here or there. THANK YOU to ALL of our VETS. Thank you to ALL the soldiers, women and men.

We went to see the 2018 Air Fest. It was a fantastic experience. The show was great, the organization, info system, infrastructure couldn't be better. Military personnel were very professional yet courteous, helpful, and even friendly with the visitors. Thank you for everyone involved. I will be back as soon as possible. Please note: Google Maps mistakenly indicates MacDill AFB POI cca. 1 mi north of this location (at Hillsborough Loop and SOCOM Memorial Way) and it can't be corrected. This one is the correct location (POI).

I LOVE that MacDill is so close to Brandon where I live! Today, just sitting in line at McDonalds, the jets flew over my head one at a time pretty low and OH MY GOSH I still have goosebumps! No matter how many times I get to see them fly I am thrilled the same way every single time. I was born on McConnell AFB in Wichita KS where my dad worked in the tower and I m positive it s in my blood. I cant get enough of seeing them!! It makes me want to play God Bless the USA right now! I thank God everyday for all the military keeping us safe and so grateful those jets are on our side!!! Thank you MacDill!

I am so thankful for the base being close enough for us who are widows of veterans to be able to use the facility. It means a lot to those of us who depend on the care received and the feeling of home after so many years of base living, if only for a few hours each visit. Thank you

Camped there when I was in the boy scouts a few years back . I enjoyed meeting everyone there and taking tours through the tower and other parts of the base. Sitting down at the bowling alley and playing with the Airmen there was really fun too. I was wondering also if anyone has the Air National Guard Recruiter's number? I am looking forward to joining very soon!!! :)
