Wow so delicious! Its all vegetation but I didn't miss the meat one bit. Cheese to crust ratio was on point
Long line, but it moves fast. We showed up at 7:45 on Friday, and the line was out the door. They close at 8 so maybe it was a last minute rush. They make one kind of pizza every day, and it's always amazing. That green sauce they serve is over the top. I don't know what's in it, but it makes the pizza extra. It lives up to its reputation as one of the best pizza places in Berkeley. It's not hype--just hella good pizza.
Only one kind of pizza is served each day. Vegetarian. Nice crust. Surprisingly, too greasy. Very limited seating. Occasionally, live music performance.
Pizza was good, not great. Crust was a bummer. Live music, however, made the atmosphere terrific. Lines were long but moved fast. Beets in salad could have been cooked longer. Salad felt quite healthy. Crust on pizza not as worked over or baked under high heat like at Gather.
Pizza so delicious, they can get away with serving just one type a day, and still have constant lines out the door. As a bay area expat...god, I miss this stuff.
Good pizza, and nice business model. 1 type of pie a day. Always vegan. Kinda in-your-face and virtue signally but I guess it's pretty good for Berkeley.
Best pizza in Berkeley for a reason. Come near closing time for lots of extra slices!
My favorited pizza in the Bay Area. They only serve one kind of pizza a day and every pizza is vegetarian. There is quite a long line on weekends, but it moves fast. There also isn't a ton of seating so better to grab and go during popular times. Their sister restaurant, Sliver is right around the corner and the pizza is very similar. This is a good option if you don't like the pizza of the day or the line is too long.
Amazing pizza. I was surprised by how good it was. I've had pizza all over the country and as a New Yorker it was pretty refreshing to have pizza that was different from what I believe to be true and good pizza. For me, that's a plain thin crust pizza, no toppings so you can enjoy the main ingredients - tomato sauce, cheese, and the dough. At the Cheeseboard, we're talking about pizza with no tomato sauce topped with potatoes, red onions, garlic and cheese, grilled on top of a flat top as soon as it comes out of the oven! Then you top that with the pappi chulo sauce, which is a cilantro cream/oil sauce. The combination of ingredients and method of cooking the pizza is definitely a departure from what I know to be my thought on good pizza, but it works and it tastes great. Highly recommended. Note: there is only one type of pizza served daily and it's not served everyday. The pizzas change as the fresh northern Californian produce available to the Cheeseboard changes.
Saw long lines in front of the place and decided to try. Their pizza has nothing to do with real pizza. It's very oily. I guess for people who don't mind oily and non authentic food it would be okay. It doesn't taste bad.
If you make the trek all the way up to Cheeseboard, you will not be disappointed! They are most famous for their corn, lime, and cilantro pizza. Yes, I understand why they are so famous for it. The menu changes everyday so be sure to check out their website prior to going if you're only looking to try the corn pizza. However, I do like their other options. Cheeseboard is vegetarian but they use the utmost ingredients - they also offer extra cheese and pepper toppings if you miss that non-veggie feel. Tbh though, the pizza here is so good that I think most can stand being vegetarian for a meal. I also really like how they offer Orangina :) Try this place out, you won't be disappointed! Also make sure to try Sliver out as well.. not bad but Cheeseboard will always have my heart.
Wowo! This is the best pizza I've had in the west coast! Yelps know what they're doing. Glad I checked yelp before grabbing lunch. Ordering was a bit confusing because ii thought you can choose what slices you want.you can customize your pizza order. But the pizza did not dissapoint. Can't get this pizza in LA. Will be dreaming about it till I come back.
The pizzas are insanely tasty and very affordable. Absolutely do not miss out on the sauce.
I truly don't know how a place can do consistently come up with new and delicious pizzas that always perfectly hit the spot. Not to mention the live music
Love the pizza. The varietal cheeses and seasonal vegetables used on their pizzas makes this place historic and extremely delicious. Lines tend to get long, so expect a wait, but it's worth it.
What can I say, it's a Berkeley staple. Always amazing.
Amazing pizza everyday and always fresh and creative
One of a kind pizza! Literally. They only serve one type of pizza all day (during open hours) but they change it everyday.
My favorite spot whenever I'm craving for pizza. Even though only vegies but always pack with flavors.
It was standing room only have so many people you could the line was going out the door all the food is good not only served bread cheese pastries but they sale Pizza by the slice half or whole
I love pizza, and I love Cheese Board pizza so much that I created a twitter-bot to send me the daily pizza and salad: @todays_pizza
The potato pizza is my all-time fav but the others (different every day and week to week!) are good too.
Newcomers always look around for other options - but they get a line down the sidewalk to the corner *every day* with just one type of pizza. Go there!
Not healthy by any means, but delicious veggie pizza.
Best pizza in the world. Stop by every time I m in the Bay Area. It s a must stop and can t miss.
Fairly decent vegetarian pizza. Loved it! They also gave us extra!
Amazing!!! You never know what you're going to get but that's the joy of it.
Wow. So good. This place totally lives up to the hype! A whole pizza was $22! There were four of us and it was just the right amount of food. However, I truly believe I could've eaten a whole one by myself. It was that good!
Great pizza, better sauce. People come for the sauce, rather than the pizza. There's usually a long line at all times outside this store, do be prepared to wait. If you're late, you might not get anything since it gets over quickly.
They make 1 style of pizza per day, so there isn't a choice. But it changes daily, so check out their website for "today's pizza of the day". They sell a small variety of drinks as well.
Pizzas are vegetarian and cost $24.07 per pie. They have vegan and gluten free options as well, for a small surcharge. The sauce used to be free, now they charge $4 for 8 ounces.
Too salty. They ruin good ingredients and good cooking with too much salt. Not uncommon around supposedly politically correct here, but immensely disappointing. Hint to CB: use fresh, unsalted mozzarella and that will probably solve the problem, and you can always give folks a salt packet if they want more. You can't get it out if there's too much, but you can always add it if there's not enough--that's another hint.
Don't get me wrong--I love salt, even if it will eventually kill me, but I want exactly the amount that makes my food TASTE GOOD. The pizza mavens at Chez Panisse should listen up on this one too.
Best pizza in the bay, and possibly the country! Prices are not too bad considering the location ($20 for a whole 12" pizza), and they always include plenty of slivered slices on the side. Definitely get their tangy refreshing green sauce, it'll make your pizza taste heavenly.
A must go in berkeley. Pizza is always good and fresh, and lines move long. It can be difficult to find seating though
Never disappoints. A must try part of Berkeley's best! Make sure to grab some green sauce for your slice
Awesome place and people. Been going here since I was a baby with my parents.
This place always has a good pizza, they always give you at least 1 extra slice, they are fast and appeal to most diets (vegan, vegetarian, gluten free...etc.)
The best pizza anywhere in the Bay Area!!! Amazed every time I tasted. Really is incredibly delicious!!! Wish they open every day!!!
Amazing pizza. Absolutely amazing. Do not miss any of the tomato pizza days. So good.
The lines of people here... whoa! I don't think I've ever seen people waiting out the store and around the corner for a pizza. Well, here they (you) do. But well worth it, to be honest.
They have a different pizza (and one salad) each day (so we were told), and it's a good thing there's only one choice. Less fuss, less deciding and people just come up to the counter and say either slice ($2.5), half pizza ($10) or a whole pizza ($20 - it comes with two additional small slices). They also come in gluten free crust version (or so they say, check ahead, please). The crust is super thin and yummy, just what you're looking for in a pizza.
The line, as before mentioned, is dauntingly long, but moves fast (really fast, to be honest) since people can't afford be too picky about their choice. You can also decide whether you want it to-go or eat on the spot. I'd suggest on the spot if it's not too crowded. They have a nice place to sit outside and eat. Don't forget to recycle afterwards, they make it really easy for you!
There are also some condiments that you can have with your pizza - people seem to go crazy about the Hot Green Sauce (I actually thought it was Pesto, too bad it wasn't). We didn't try it, because we're not really fans of hot sauces, but judging by how many other people had it on their pizzas, it really must be something.
Check the schedule first, though (they are closed on Sundays, and they close once during the day for an hour and a half). We got there 5 minutes before closing time, because we had no idea they close the shop in between and didn't even think we'd get the pizza in the end (but we did).
Bonus: they serve free water and there's live music!
P.S. You can also get their daily pizza light-baked next door at The Cheese Board if you're not up for waiting and eating on the spot.
*** In Short ***
Flavorful pizza that's reminiscent of gluten-free pizza in texture.
*** In Depth ***
I swear I went to Cal. Yes, for the four full years. Honest. I explain away my failure to eat at Cheese Board until almost a decade after I graduated as pure and simple collegiate laze. Four years, and I never expanded my horizons beyond the four blocks around the Cal campus :|
BUT, better late than never amirite?! So, coming with an old college buddy and his family, and somehow getting lucky enough to nab indoor seating, we ordered a couple whole pies of their pizza of the day: an artichoke, olive, and parsley affair.
And, thoughts? Well, the thing was brimming with wonderfully delicious flavors! The downside? The crust was rather gummy and dense, reminiscent of the texture of gluten-free pizzas I've had in the past. Not awful, but something that definitely detracted from the overall experience.
Would I go again? Yeah, sure. Friends that I described the aforementioned to have never experienced it before, so it could have just been an off-day.
***Accessibility Info***
Venue - Accessibility is a tad mixed: I don't recall any tables having entirely accessible seating, with a mix of benches on one side, and pull out chairs on the other, both indoors and out. That said, there may have been a few outdoor tables that only had pull-out chairs, but with the crush of people and close arrangements, only the outer borders are easily accessible.
Bathroom - Didn't try.
Love cheeseboard! Can never go wrong with the food here. Even if I don't like some ingredients, I still always enjoy the food! Sad that they had to start charging for the green sauce, but I guess you get enough for a few meals so it's alright.
They serve one kind of pizza each day, and it is awesome. The line outside will look intimidating but it moves very fast since everyone is ordering the same pizza
I love cheeseboard pizza! So good you won't even know it's vegetarian. They are fast, friendly, and you get a little extra slice to snack on on the way out the door. After over 20 years of living in the Bay Area, it's still my favorite pizza!
Cheeseboard is a quintessential Berkeley experience. Where else would people line up over nearly a block for cauliflower pizza on a Thursday night? The pizza is just that good, whether topped with cauliflower, eggplant, corn, or other vegetables. Check the website for the week's offerings.
Delicious pizza. Don't get scared of the line, it moves fast.
I am a pizza lover!!!
so this place is definitely best I've had for long time, its a small place and has not much room to sit but I can honestly tell you its worth the wait..
Ingredients are fresh and delicious, Its a must to try and definitely will be coming back...GREAT FOOD!! my personal favorite is Peperoni Pizza!!!
This place is really cool. They serve one type of vegetarian pizza everyday, and it was amazing when I went (this is coming from a die hard meat lovers fan). They have a spicy aoli which you can dip it in, and they also had a live and lively band playing in the restaurant.
The pizza here is SOOO good. The topping combinations are always really well done and I love the crust. Go early because they are open until they sell out. I love going with a group and getting an entire pizza to share! On weekends they often have some music and it's nice sitting outside on the grass area.
Cheeseboard pizza. Legendary. Don't worry about the crazy long line. It goes fast. Only one type of pizza is served here per day, so it's always a hit.
Excellent!! We r going to Berkeley mainly for Cheeseboard Pizza
Best pizza ever! Also veg, (almost) never tomato sauce, always a crazy long line, one kind of pizza per day, live music every day (closed sun & mon). Also, beat salad, beer, wine, roasted garlic, amazing green spicy sauce, and buffalo milk ice cream (yes, buffalo milk).
Chessboard is the bomb diggity! Fresh, new variation of vegetarian pizza every day as well as a vegan and gluten free option. The vegan cheese they use is fluffy and delicious. Their salad of the day is also just as amazing as their pizza. Try the sparkling rose lemonade!
Stand in queue while you read this because you absolutely must eat here. If the queue is around the block the wait time is probably about 20mins (obviously less than that otherwise).
Big line but original pizzas, place to be with friend
A must for all those that visit Berkeley. There is always a line, but don t let that scare you as it moves pretty fast. They only serve one type of vegetarian pizza, all day... but as a hardcore carnivore, I still find it quite tasty. Do not forget to try the green sauce. My only gripe is that it isn t closer to a BART station... it s depressing to have to walk so far after stuffing your face with so much pizza...
variety pizza place. Have to catch it on days you want something different, in regards to pizza.
