Great spot to have a bite and cocktail. The view is awesome. The rooms are all different and quite unique. The Nantucket room lacked nothing, private courtyard with a hot tub and sauna and a non-stop view!

Martha's Vineyard Suite...a sweet & unexpected upgrade on arrival! For my boyfriend's 48th birthday, I booked the Briar Rose Suite & on arrival, was told the hotel upgraded our stay to one of the property's most picturesque oceanfront rooms (see pics). The Martha's Vineyard Suite has an private entrance into a lower courtyard where the hot tub & sauna are located. Upstairs is a balcony terrace leading into a gorgeous room. The bathroom has a huge 2 person travertine shower w/multiple body jets & rain-shower, along with a 2 person jacuzzi tub. The room has a French-County feel, romantic with a hint of masculinity. Beautiful property with very professional, courteous staff who cater to your every need! Brittany & Stephanie y'all are friendly & gracious! Your boss Christine should give you raises for your excellence in representing The Chanler...you're exceptional at all you do! Thank you for a wonderful Newport experience!
Went here for lunch with my gf around Christmas time 2 years ago. Good food, amazing location/view right on the Cliffwalk, and cozy vibes inside with skilled bartenders and nice host-staff. Fantastic and regal old school decor
The place itself is absolutely gorgeous, however the people who run it are completely incompetent. I had planned to get married at the Chanler back in 2009. The person (at the time) who was the wedding planner wouldn't return my calls and gave me incorrect information - prices would always change, information was sketchy. It was a pain to deal with and I seeked other venues. We ended up getting married at the Astors Beechwood Mansion which was spectacular! However, fast forward 5 years - considering we had brunch at the Chanler with family during our wedding weekend back in 2009, we decided to celebrate our wedding anniversary in Newport last summer. Brunch at the Chanler was one of our stops. Now if you are familiar with Newport, you know that the traffic is horrific in the summer. We called ahead as reservations are not taken for the Veranda, but we were told that there might be a little wait but that yes, the Veranda was available for brunch. We get there after sitting in traffic for nearly an hour and a half from Providence and were told that the veranda was closed off for an event. I was spitting nails I was so mad. We had sat in traffic for nothing, ruining our anniversary brunch and leaving us scrambling to find another place. I will not visit this establishment again - especially considering there are other beautiful sights and places to eat/see in Newport. Run by a bunch of incompetent unprofessional people. Stay away if you are planning an event here.
We ate at the cafe and it was very subpar. The meals took a long time to come out and didn't come out as ordered. The quality of the good was average while the prices were high for what you got. Drinks were not refilled. Waitress was non-existent once orders were placed. Overall, I wouldn't recommend and we won't be going back. Shame, b/c beautiful location and ambiance.
The view is amazing! That is about it. The service was fair. The food was satisfactory, not anything out of the ordinary. The menu choices were very limited. We are not big eaters, however the portion size was extreemely small for the cost. We ordered grilled squash to share and recieved 4 tiny pieces for $15 . That was an indication to me that the rest of the meal would be small and it was. The only thing that was full size was the burger. We will not go again. The view is really spectacular!
From the moment we arrived, everything was spectacular. The staff was extremely accomodating and helpful. The room and view were what we hoped for. The property and restaurant were very clean and kept impeccably. We look forward to visiting again.
Wonderful Sunday brunch at The Chandler at Cliff Walk in Newport. Great service accompanied the food and drinks in this stylish and relaxed restaurant in a hotel with a gorgeous view. A Rhode Island treasure.
The Cliff Walk was absolutely amazing. Walking along the path was a beautiful experience. During the walk there were gorgeous views. I highly recommed going to the Cliff Walk because it is a stunning day trip.
You can't get better than this. Staff does an excellent job of catering to your needs. Hotel is immaculate with stunning views. It's pricey but worth every penny. This will be our go to hotel for all future visits to Newport
A classic Newport location at the eastern end of the Cliff Wall. We ate lunch and the options were less formal than we expected--which was perfect! It's wasn't cheap but it didn't break the bank. Great cocktails and fish tacos.
I can't speak highly enough about our stay at the chanler. Everyone is very accommodating and will bend over backwards for you. They make you feel like it is your house and want only the best experience and you can see/hear it from every employee.
The room (greek revival) was nothing short of fantastic. Exceptionally clean and the staff always kept it that way. The view was amazing from the balcony. To the right was beautiful gardens and to the left was an amazing ocean view.
The food from the spiced pear was out of this world, along with the delicious breakfast on the terrace overlooking the ocean. It was such an experience, that we never wanted to leave to try breakfast anywhere else.
Also, the shuttle service is a great plus! They shuttle you around in new buick enclaves and they will take you or pick you up anywhere you would like....it was fantastic!
Overall, the best place i have ever been to and i can't wait to go back. This place will always be very special for the rest of my life, because it was here that i proposed to the love of my life.....and i couldn't have picked a nicer place. Relax like royalty and stay at the chanler at cliff walk on your stay in newport, ri.
An amazing Inn, location could not get any better. The rooms were out of this world. As a business owner we look for places where people genuinely seem to enjoy their job. Everyone that we came in contact with had nothing but amazing things to say about the Inn. We will be back.
being from NJ/NYC i know a good skyline and view for a cocktail. this is one of the best in the northeast! went in september and it was still the perfect for drinks on the lawn
Absolutely breathtaking... My boyfriend and I go there for afternoon cocktails. The outdoor bar faces an amazing view of the ocean, very enjoyable. The service is wonderful. The outdoor bartender Karissa has a great personality and makes the best French pear drink. IT'S DELICIOUS!
Stay here in the off season for great pricing. Each room is different and very classy. They also have a resturant and nice outdoor overlook of the beach and ocean that is second to none in the Newport area that is open to the public.
I didn't stay at the hotel itself, my girlfriend and I had dinner and drinks. Believe me when I say the drinks were the best part of the entire experience. The food was horrid. Absolutely terrible. They have a great view with great scenery, just a shame the food was so bad. We spent about $275 for the 2 of us which is way too much for what we got in service and food quality. First the oyster looked like they were shucked in the morning and then throw in a shell when I ordered the.. The Octopus was wayyyy overcooked.. the steak entree was essentially a plate of mush. Quite honestly I'd absolutely never return or even recommend it to anybody I know.
Overall great service and staff.... For the $1300 per night you get: no gym, no pool, no direct beach, no breakfast, tinny tinny room, small hot tub, and close walk to tennis hall of fame. Probably not going back, but you never know....
Oh MY dream come true! How lucky is this venue for having so much to offer its guests!?!
The view: Spectacular view of the ocean accompanied by a cool breeze on a warm summer day/night. Add a few summer songs during cocktail hour and I seriously felt like I was on an exotic vacation. I kid you not!
The food: EXCELLENT food and spectacular service.
Architecture: The inside of the venue is very nice, but it's the outside patio that has me swooning. I love the pillars and everything about it is perfection.
Their guest rooms. I have only seen them in photos, but it is on my bucket list of dream places to stay!
I won't bore you with a long review so let me just say this, the entire staff from front desk to valet were amazing, friendly and ready to help with anything that needed to be done. I can not say enough about the housekeeping staff, our room was always spotless and when I say spotless I mean it, turndown service was amazing. Overall the best experience I have had staying anyplace in Newport. Thank you again to the great staff at The Chanler.
We had an informal wedding dinner with 10 people at the Chanler on Sunday, August 9th. It was wonderful, a perfect match for the occasion. We had a beautiful view from our pre-booked table, the service was impeccable and the quality of the food was excellent. I definitely recommend this venue, and we will be back if we ever need to treat ourselves to some amazing food.
To the waiters taking care of us that night: Apologies for my miscalculation - I feel guilty for not leaving a tip that would have been appropriate for the good service you've provided us.
Expensive and worth it. Get the French pear martini And enjoy the water views from inside or from the Miranda or from the generous lawn with the Adirondack chairs. It's a fancy place but they'll take you in shorts and sandals.
This was a pretty terrible experience. We came in about 8:30pm with a reservation. It was obvious the kitchen and front of house staff were ready to go home. Wine service took at least 20 minutes before anyone acknowledged us about food. An appetizer was forgotten. The entrees were subpar (being gracious). We felt like we were being rushed out the door as they set up for the next service. Everyone was ready for breakfast, except us. Having a hard time understanding why the reviews are so great. Even if the service was fantastic, the food just eh.
