Such a dissapointing birthday dinner. We ordered through Uber eats and when the food arrived it was stone cold despite only living 2kms away. The order took 45mins to make which seems a long time when they are only doing take away. We ordered pizza and gnocchi. Gnocchi was expensive for how much you got and had zero flavour. The pizza was cold and after we warmed it in the oven the cheese still wouldn't melt properly and it had no flavour. Not filling and not paying for qaulity. Will not be back!

Pizza's were soggy and the ingredients were all clumped together and hardly cooked and hardly cold. The pasta i had was also barely warm and also sloppy and not tasty. By the way i only live a two minute walk away, so i dont know how it was cold. First time i have gone there, and will never go back

One word. ......sensational. the food is top notch. The pizza is some of the best east of Melbourne CBD. The pizza base is very neopolitan style although sometimes it can be a little wet but i am picky here. Don't just order pizza though, the pasta is lovely and very tasty. This has become our favorite and go to place when we go out.

Fantastic food, service and atmosphere. We've been eating there for years and they have never let us down. Don't listen to the negative knockers. These guys are great. Keep up the good work guys...

Dishonest merchants. Ordered small but during pick up was charged a large. I told them I ordered a small and they said there are no small. Showed them their phone site and small was there at cheaper price, they apologised but said they already cooked the large and ask if I was ok. I took it but then was charged more than what I should pay again when I checked the receipt later.

Back tonight and the Gnocchi al Tonno was amazing with the homemade Gnocchi adorned with sage, garlic, olives and capers and married to finely sliced tuna hitting the top marks for flavour, texture, and style....

Awesome again

This is a local gem in Vermont dishing out authentic Italian food. The restaurant does take away and has a decent sized dine in seated area and offers byo. Pizza is a speciality with its extensive menu of both red and white base pizzas, they are cooked in a woodfire oven for that real authentic chewy pizza base. My fave was the prosciutto topped pizza.
There is also a smaller range of pasta favourites available including specials of the day.
The carbonara is a standout which I need to tell you about. There are two types of carbonara, the creamy kind of sauce made with cream and the real Italian type that originated from Rome which is made without any cream but simply good quality panchetta/ Italian bacon, eggs and Parmesan. Via Matta offers the real italian style carbonara for regulars who know to ask, I only discovered it during my first dining visit to the restaurant when it was ok the specials board. On my second visit to try the dish, it wasn t on the menu but I discovered it s available if you know to ask!
On desserts, the tiramisu is a winner, it is a generous size so perfect for sharing or for one of course! The lemon cake was slightly still frozen when it was served to our table.
Great service, definitely be coming back for another carbonara, pizza and tiramisu.

Terrible takeaway service. I live 1 minute down the road from this restaurant yet on my return home, my pizza & garlic pizza was cold and not completely cooked and my pasta was also cold. Not the first time to have this experience. I suggest the owners of this establishment should invest in some heat lamps. Pretty disappointed considering all the good reviews.
I will also note that on my arrival to pick up my order, there were pastas in take away containers just sitting on the front counter left to go cold.

Via Matta is a family run business that makes amazingly delicious food. I highly recommend this place if you love old school Italian cooking, done to perfection, with simple, fresh ingredients.

Ever since I moved to this country I've been trying and trying to find a good italian restaurant. After searching and searching, my mother reccomended a family owned restaurant called Via Matta and ever sincr my first time eating there I've been forever changed.

Via Matta has arguably the best italian cuisine in melbourne. The family and staff that run the restaurant are lovely and the prices are perfectly affordable. I highly reccomend whatever is on the specials board for your first visit, but if that's not your style the Gnocci al Pesto is my personal favorite item on the menu. The wine imports have been some of my favorite bottles of all time, especially the Pinot Grigio.

Going to Via Matta with my Fiance, by myself, or with family has become a tradition that I've come to cherish and look forward to.

Thank you for all of the wonderful times Enzo, Luigi, Nina, and staff!

Take away Pizza. The crust was burnt and the centre was soggy. Overpriced and virtually tasteless. The tomato base tasted like it was a can of crushed homebrand. Dull & boring. Very disappointed :(

Great service and even better food. Walked into the restaurant through a recommendation and can say it s the best Italian pizza and pasta in Melbourne! Giulia was fantastic and had great recommendation from the menu. Will definitely come again!

Amazing Italian restaurant.

Amazing Italian restaurant.
Everything is handmade with fresh ingredients. Even the pasta is made fresh in house.
Pizzaiolo cooks your pizza in the wood fire oven. Pizza has freshly sliced ham on it, no little rectangle bits of pre packaged ham, it's sliced fresh in house.
My favourite restaurant.
Have taken many family & friends there, and everyone of them thought the food was delicious
A hidden gem in Vermont

Delicious Woodfire Pizza + my newly fav Gnocchi . I've been to this place frequently as my partner found this is the best Pizza he had near our home. The service and the quality of their food are constantly cater our expectations. The staff are always friendly and made us feel welcome in each of our visits. Looks like most important ingredient are imported from Italy. Highly recommended.

Had the most amazing seafood risotto, it was so fresh and they didn t skim out on the fish also. Was so impressed as I m always a bit hesitant ordering fish but It wasn t smelly one bit. My husband ordered penne carbonara and that was another hit, we couldn t stop trying each others food as our taste buds were dancing. We had the toblerone and pistachio pyramid gelati at the end which wasn t too heavy and was equally as delicious. We cannot wait to go again. This restaurant is like a little Italy in Vermont. Absolutely love it.

Fairly average pizza, had to fold the slices as the base was paper thin, however was extremely disappointed by the calamari fritti, it was totally over cooked and was like boot rubber- they re just battered squid rings and more than double the price of what a fish & chip shop charges. Wouldn t recommend this place at all.

Dayummm girl, 5 star food and service. As far as local Italian goes this place is the ONE. Excellent in all aspects and highly recommended for anyone looking for good Italian locally out east. Via Matttaaaaa!

I honestly have never been so satisfied! The food is definitely sensational and worth savouring, hence the service couldn t be better, the owners are very passionate about their business and everything else in regards to their customers. All the Italian restaurants I have previously been to, lack authenticity..except for VIA MATTA! My family and I come by here, but only for special occasions because thats when their food is definitely worth eating

And whoever has left bad reviews, along with a 1 star rating..doesn t realise how hard these staff work just to serve this delicious food they deserve more recognition and positive feedback!!
