The hotel is very charming. The food at the restaurant was surprisingly good. Usually hotel food is trash but this would be worth driving for even if you weren't staying at the hotel. The rooms are very cozy and cute. Cottage-y style rooms with updated bathrooms

The restaurant has become ridiculously expensive, especially relative to food quality. $26 for a few mussels whereas they used to charge $16 under previous owners and were better and larger portion. We went downtown Coupeville (only 4 miles away) to and they charge only 13$ for way better quality and quantity and they can prep then 12 different ways and they offer gluten free bread etc. We have sejourned at Captain Whidbey maybe 7 times and this one is going to be the last. We spent 70$ (the fish and chips were very average in quality and quantity) on a brunch that should have cost half and we left hungry and disappointed with the quality.

We had a charming one-night stay in the lodge last Saturday for a quick change of pace from Seattle life.

It was chilly out, but inside the lodge was warm and toasty. The shared bathrooms were perfectly clean and beautifully redone. There are convenient sinks in your room so you don't have to go to the bathroom just to wash your face or brush your teeth. I was a big fan of the Rudy's toiletries, which smelled lovely, and their bathrobes were oh-so-cozy and fantastic (I'm regretting not having purchased one for home.) We had dinner in their restaurant and really enjoyed our cocktails and meal. We were able to squeeze ourselves in for an early dinner (before 6 pm) but reservations definitely seem like a good idea. Service was great! Overall, would love to come back!

Service desk crew was friendly. The free breakfast had plenty of bread and fresh fruit. NOTE: the bar and grill is closed on Mon and Tues!! Stayed in a lagoon room which are like little cabins with private bathrooms ( the other room types have shared bathrooms!). The room was very basic, only furniture, coffee pot, shower, and bed. The view out of the room was lovely but the room inside needed some work. It was clean but the faucets and shower had rust/buildup on them with a couple cobwebs to add flavor.

My in-laws flew from across the country for the holidays and my wife and I were excited to take them somewhere special for dinner with the kids. The setting and property are gorgeous. However, the food and service were all but desirable. Cold burgers that had to be sent back after an hour wait and no resolution offered by management. Rather than comp the entree that was not eaten, management said that due to a bite being eaten they could only discount the food. This was an unexpected experience and was embarrassing for our party. We left paying $300 for dinner. Management picked up $20 for the inconvenience. My brother-in-law didn t eat (he sent his food back) and the rest of our party ate the cold food because of how hungry we were. With kids fading fast, We didn t not feel like waiting another hour to see if our food would come back warm.

Attended their open house event, advertised only in the newspaper, as they recently changed owners. 1 free drink and apps/dessert. The wait staff was attentive and friendly. The apps/dessert were tasty, the patio space was large, and view great. Would consider returning for at least a drink and dessert here.

Charming old building. Sound travels through the walls pretty well....so don't expect solitude if typical stay in the lodge. Nice and clean. I miss the old books that used to line the hall upstairs in the lodge.. But new owners means new approach. Bathrooms are quite nice and remodeled. Overall ...quite pleased with the new set- up. We wish the new owners the best of luck!

Imagine a retro summer camp setting with a backdrop of ocean water and fir trees. Then, add a Wes Anderson flair. You have the Captain Whidbey Inn. We were so charmed! There are so many gems to find as you stroll the grounds...a rope swing, a charming gazebo, row boats and canoes to take out on the water. Multiple hammocks dot the area so you can find peaceful moments under the trees. I would highly recommend a visit the Captain Whidbey Inn if you find yourself on this beautiful Island.

Had been to the restaurant for lunch during the summer, returned with guest for a fall lunch. Prices jumped $4-5 per item. A garden salad was $14, now $19, no meat, just greens. Soup, salad and sandwich took over 40 minutes when the restaurant was only half full on a week day. I found dirt on several of lettuce leaves in my salad and completely lost my appetite. Such a disappointment. At those prices you expect an outstanding experience. I give it 2 stars. 1 for the clam chowder and 1 for the view.

From freshly curated rooms, to the ease of the local breeze. It was a joy to stay after a long week of work. The bed was brand new, and from the minute my head hit the pillow I was asleep. The theme is true to its historical heritage, with an upbeat, well designed update. Not only was the rooms + over all experience a delight, the foods was delicious. From a set of shared meals to a mixed board of some of my favorite breakfast selections. This place hit the spot!

Impressively accommodating for our large, last minute gathering of friends for lunch today. The cool old building really gives a sense of Washington's history. Amazing views, good local food (always Penn Cove mussels and oysters!). A high end must see for visitors to Whidbey, a staple of good dining for locals.

This is a VERY quaint ancent inn sitting on a shore of a bay. We stayed in main building upstairs. So old you have shared baths etc. If you are not OK with shared baths the inn has cabins and rooms in other places in the gardens. Dinner and drinks were just fine. I will be back.

We had a Lagoon room, pet friendly. The view is gorgeous. The food at the restaurant is delicious and the staff is great. Perfect for a quiet getaway and some peace. Walls are a little thin, but they tell you that on the welcome card that is placed on the bed. Exactly what we were looking for. Comfortable rooms, nothing fancy, and very peaceful.

The Captain Whidbey Inn is a beautifully renovated lodge overlooking Penn Cove. We stayed in Cabin 32 and had the most relaxing, wonderful night possible. Spent hours on the private patio drinking wine & looking up at the stars. Woke up in the morning to a beautiful view. The decor is elegant and simple, each item so thoughtfully chosen. The local touches add to the PNW feel - Filson, Glasswing, soaps specially made for the Inn, and lets not forget the limited Frankie & Jo s ice cream flavor on the restaurant menu.

Had an overnight stay at Captain Whidbey. We stayed in the rooms facing the lagoon and loved it. The rooms in the main lodge share a bathroom but they are super charming. Got to see one of the cabins The Edit, which was lovely and cozy. Had dinner and breakfast at the restaurant and food was excellent and reasonably priced. The overall vibe was so cozy. We sat in front of the fireplace in the lobby as it was a wintery day. I highly recommend.

We had a social event here and it was really an interesting experience. The rooms are all small so if there a lot of guests most will be outside or spread out around the first floor. The bar service was pretty legit and the food was really good. I'd definitely stay here at the hotel after that social event.

The fireplace is not operational as of 12/26/20. Apparently the local fire marshal deemed the historic chimney to be a fire hazard... you d think the owners would have figured this out before now??! Major deal breaker. Get it fixed or take those cozy pictures off the website.

Otherwise, the place has charm and decent dinner but is quite overpriced. Classic Puget Sound service culture: ask premium prices without offering premium service or amenities.

The old Inn is very cool. Restaurant and bar, living room, check in and coffee are on the ground floor. I was in one of the newer buildings, excellent view! Room is not large, but has everything needed. Just a heads up, no TV, but with the view, I didn't miss it at all. There is a deck with 2 rocking chairs to take advantage of this great view. Very quiet and secluded.

This used to be a nice high-end restaurant, with unique charm, historic character, and fairly good cooking, to go along with the stunning view and setting. It seems like the goal of the recent remodeling was to remove all traces of local, historic charm, and replace them with a standardized, generic decor that you would expect from a mid-level chain restaurant. But the food was the real disappointment. We took our neighbor there, to try it out for the first time under the new ownership. The dishes we ordered ranged mostly from uninteresting to downright unappetizing - nothing was really tasty. The dishes didn't really match their menu descriptions, and two of the three diners ended up leaving about half our food. The service was good.

This place is amazing! One of my top 5 places I've ever stayed. Rooms are large and recently renovated, lodge itself is very cool and historic, food is fantastic, staff are friendly AND you can even have a campfire out by the little lake at night. Breathtaking serene little escape.

Where to begin... the atmosphere was nice and the dessert was great. The food they did have was very good, but they were out of two main items which being closed Monday and Tuesday... was rather disappointing being the first day open of the week (we went on Wednesday) the bar selection was rather lacking as well. We sat in the bar area which should have the dinner and tavern menu, but we were only offered the dinner menu which most of us would have preferred the tavern menu. By far the worst part of the whole experience was the service. The whole experience was at least 2.5 hours long. Service was slow from beginning to end. We were asked if we wanted dessert and told the server our order. Twenty minutes later the server comes back and asked if we had decided on dessert... we were under the impression we already had placed our order. I would go back to give them a second chance, but I would hope for much better service.

I've travelled a lot over the years, and am adamant on finding accommodations that are cozy and charming. Captain Whidbey Inn was nothing short of that. It was a Living Social coupon that brought me to them, and the staff that will keep me coming back. - Imagine going away to visit family for the holidays; a warm fire crackling, the smells of thanksgiving dinner coming from the kitchen, old creaky floors and down-feather beds; along with a big welcoming porch, and nooks to reside away to when you just need some quiet time. This is the Captain Whidbey Inn. Everything about it felt like the home I have always longed for. - The staff were impeccable and accommodating as well. Some of the best I've met, actually. If you need to get away for a few days, make the Inn your chose. You won't regret it.

We loved our stay at Captain Whidbey's. We spent our anniversary there in one of the dog- friendly lagoon rooms. The staff are all super nice and they even had a special note for us in our room wishing us a happy anniversary. The grounds are beautiful and the inn itself, being so old, is very beautiful, quirky and interesting. It is very clean and well taken care of - would totally go back!

Positive: great/amazing/breathtaking views; Penn C...

Positive: great/amazing/breathtaking views; Penn Cove Mussels Cioppino with Saffron Olive Oil Aioli was a perfection of a dish- I would highly recommend it; sadly this is where the positive ends despite the fact that the dinner was $200+ for three folks.
Negatives: The bread is not worth $8- and we all agreed on this. It was good, but it could easily be $4, instead of $8. But it came fast and that was important since it took a while for the next two apps to come. The mussels were to die for; deep fried broccoli and cauliflower were OK, nothing super special about the dish, and this dish was supposed to be served with Cole Slaw Harissa Aioli, but that was not the case since the aioli tasted exactly as the Saffron Olive Oil aioli.
My burger came out first and it was already cold, fries too. It was clear that it was of a high quality meat, but the fat was already congealing and I had no way to warm it up. Fries were small, burnt, plain sad looking. Moreover, the burger came with blistered tomatoes (two big chunks)- these were prepped during the day because they were plain cold. My friend's main dishes took another seven minutes to arrive (we were all seated at the same time though), and his pork, while tasty, came lukewarm. However, the scallop dish was spot on temperature wise. What a disappointment this dinner was! And then another sad surprise that made me feel like a total winner of this situation. When asked to split the bill three ways (even though my dishes and drinks were almost twice as less as my friends) Daniel (our "attendant"- not the best one though) made a face of "I-cannot-believe-you-are-asking-for-this"? I ordered a burger, at $17 (with no cheese) one of the most affordable dishes on the menu, but I paid for my friends dinner as well, because Daniel could not split the bill three ways. Why not? There was no reason provided for this, and honestly. we waited so long for the bill and the food that we were ready to split the bill so we can go. This spot is trying hard to be fancy, but trying is the word since they are certainly not doing it. And of note, no one asked how the dinner was and I had no opportunity to share this with management- I wish Daniel did ask how everything was after we spent $200+....

The first time I've been there did not stay just enjoyed appetizers and a drink by the fireplace. The staff was incredible both Sam and Ariana were professional and knowledgeable. The tempura-battered porticello and cold smoked salmon plate are a must have.

When staying on Whidbey Island in the Coupeville area, why not stay at the historic Captain Whidbey Inn. The setting us just lovely. We stayed in the newer lodge overlooking the lagoon. Rooms have a cabin, lodge feel to them. Very clean but bathrooms are dark and a bit uninviting. However, the views, walks and setting more than make up for this.

Interesting little getaway. Definately worth checking out though pricey for what you get. The food is very expensive, tasty for sure, but not matching the price. Very cute historic inn, but not the most comfortable and fairly noisy. We enjoyed our time and it's a beautiful area, just overpriced.

The experience was different, we stayed in a room with the lake view, in that building the bathroom it's European style ... So there's shared bathroom one for women & one for men but only one shower each. Really old structure (floors cracking when you walk), the food at the tabern it's good and they have an outdoor tables, in case that it's not raining it is a good option. We only stayed one night but was a really nice experience !

Beautiful setting in comfortable historic waterfront lodging. Recently refurbished rooms with amazing views. Lots of outdoor seating areas and grassy areas to explore. Excellent restaurant in the historic log lodge. Even saw a river otter on the lawn during breakfast! Dog friendly and even arranged electric plugin for our Tesla (destination charger planned for this location).
