We were at a private booth (D) watching the Jersey boys. It was am amazing experience, both alcohol and company helped (4 of us) but we had an amazing night! Not the biggest booth but was more replaced than having the normal sits. Not as expensive as London.

Very traditional styled theatre and well maintained inside, old fashioned and cramped toilet facilities inside can be really disgusting with the stench being nearly unbearable in the gents toilets. However bar facilities are fine in both bars and seating reasonably comfortable in the theatre. As with all city centre theatre parking is further away.
I've been here a number of times and have seen Lion King, Phantom of The Oprea Calendar Girls to name a few and every time I've always enjoyed myself. There is also a lovely little piano bar attached the the theatre. No matter where I have sit from the stalls to right at the back on the top circle I've always had a really good view. Staff have always been friendly and very helpful. Great little theatre with a beautiful history
Great place to go to for seeing theatre productions, like The Book of Mormon. Nice friendly theatre - just like the West End but in the centre of Bristol. One warning though the bar prices are astronomical. Take your own!
It's a great old classic venue. However I feel that they need to put warnings when you buy a ticket that it is restricted space. I've been a few times and it's always tight. However this time I was in row A of the upper circle. I am 6 foot 4 and I wasn't physically able to face forward. Luckily I was at the end so I put my legs out for the side. I think anyone over 6 foot would struggle to fit into these seats. I recently went to watch The Book Of Mormon and sat in the stalls. The leg room was better and the show was brilliant. Definitely worth a watch
This theatre is special, great staff, brilliant productions - the facilities could do with a bit of a refresh... More Loos are urgently requires, however not sure if that practical given the age.
Great venue, all the facilities you need for watching a show. Great selection of shows. But an extortionately expensive bar. Expected of a theatre but no real reason for the crazy price.
I'm a regular visitor to this theatre, and they have some great productions, but it's in desperate need of refurbishment. Access and exit points are regularly log jammed, and pose a safety risk. Parking in the area is also difficult.
Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake was brilliant. A very good view from the fourth row of the stalls. I'm glad I was going to the gent's at the interval. The queue for the ladies was very long and women were giving up!
A very pleasant experience whether it is a play, opera, musical or other show. Over priced on the drinks and snacks but a good view of the stage wherever you sit.
Lovely venue. Great seats. Fairly close to facilities in the city centre. Only reason for 4 stars is that when coming out at night with kids the locals can sometimes be a bit...well let's just say it reminds you you're in a big city!
Watched the body guard here and was a great show. Food and drinks are pricey and the seats are uncomfortable for such a long show. But if you are in Bristol I would recommend
Wonderful venue for seeing a live 70+ piece orchestra playing the best of John Williams and Hans Zimmers finest work. Proper old school theatre, with bars on several levels, and three tiers of seating with box seating available as well. All the staff are super friendly and really add to the experience. Interval drinks can be ordered in advance if you want to beat the queue. Buying tickets for a loved one for birthday or Christmas presents for a Hippodrome experience is also an excellent idea. A fantastic place, may the show go on! Forever!
First time there nice to see the building so beautiful amazing staff think the upper circle could do with nicer seating as it's basically a bench and very squished in but it goes with the charm of the place
The show was excellent... 5star. But you couldn't flush the toilets no cold water & couldn't wash your hands as it was too hot. Also no ice for drinks and it was a hot night. Need to sort it
War Horse was amazing. The horses were so life-like. The actors who controlled them did a wonderful job. The lighting and sound effects also contributed to produce an atmosphere of England during the war and the battlefields. It is the best production I have seen in a long while.
Oh my. took my grandaughter to see lion king .it is a memory that she will never forget . She is 13.And loved every min of it. As did I. Wonderful night many thanks ...
Watched Matilda here and it's just such a good night out whatever you view. The building is amazing! Shows are consistently brilliant, and although the intervals are always crazy busy with everyone trying to get a drink/go to the toilet you never seem to have to wait that long. Drink prices are obscene tho, think I paid nearly 5 quid for two bottles of coke!!! Maybe that's standard theatre prices these days tho
A beautiful old-fashioned (in the best sense!) theatre. The staff are helpful and friendly, which just adds to the sense of occasion. A wonderful venue.
Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to see the Illegal Eagles. Love visiting the Bristol Hippodrome, it's got that West End size, feeling and atmosphere that you rarely get with other regional theatres. Facilities are always very good, refreshments don't cost the earth and it's got a good buzz being in the centre of the city.
The only drawback is that you can't drop people off out the front any more and getting to the car park at the back is a pain in the bum.
I've been to see many a show here. Wicked (Twice!), Funny Girl and Miss Saigon tonight. Every show has been phenomenal, and some have caused me to forget to breathe. Never underestimate Bristol Hippadrome. If a show takes your fancy, go for it! Not one to be missed.
Took my wife to see hairspray last night for a belated birthday present in January something I knew she wanted to see, sat there watching her watching the show, her face was a picture and said it all. We love Bristol Hippodrome and will be returning many times well done everybody at Bristol Hippodrome.A* all members of staff that we encountered were helpful polite and had smiles on their faces like they enjoyed being there A* That's great to see. I would like to thank everyone for a great night at Bristol Hippodrome highly recommended to all.....
Beautiful theatre with great sound and unobstructed view from nearly every angle. My only criticism is that it needs more facilities like toilets as lots of people missed the start of the 2nd act while queueing!
This place has accessibility down to an art form. From ordering to sitting in the venue its smooth. Amazing show Lion King is one I'd recommend they pull the theater into the show.
Lovely theatre but the bar is very expensive! I wouldn't recommend buying drinks or snacks from here but the theatre itself is fantastic, with very comfortable seating and good acoustics too
Bristol Hippodrome is an amazing venue to watch the best shows! So far this year I have seen Wicked and Hairspray and usually visit 5 or 6 times a year. The staff are mostly friendly and helpful. My only suggestion... Please host Lion King! Look forward to my next visit xx
Went to see Hairspray in the Bristol Hippodrome and I thoroughly enjoyed the VIP experience that we purchased. I would recommended others to pay the little extra and go for the VIP pass. As thus makes the interval relaxing and you can avoid the mosh pit that will inevitably insue during a theatre shows interval.
What I saw of the show was excellent but be warned - if you are tall or don't like being hemmed in don't go. Add to this for some reason it became incredibly hot. Absolutely unbearable. Had to leave at the start of the second half.
It's a lovely old theatre, what's not to like. Front row seats at a musical, watching the musicians in the pit, singing along to Carole King classics, a great night out.
Superb venue, great quality show (at least the one I saw). Only real complaint is the coffee... made with what pretends to be a real coffee machine, but I saw the bar staff plugging plastic pods into it. Tasted like burnt water! Unbelievably bad. Even instant coffee tastes far superior. My advice, purchase from a few doors down and sneak it in! Bristol is full of amazing coffee places, there really should be no excuse for a place like this to serve overpriced, plastic-infused water and claim it to be coffee!
If you're just going for the theatre though, no complaints
Went to see Awful Auntie, the show was superb. It was easy to find out seats. We had seats in the grand circle and we had a fantastic view. The staff are all very helpful and polite. The toilets were busy but very clean. Overall this was a fantastic experience. It gets very crowded after the show finishes with everyone trying to get out - so you either have to be fast.. or just wait in your seat for a bit and let the crowds die down before attempting to leave.
Went to see Lion King, show was outstanding. Shame about the building leaking, buckets position up stair ways, everyone pushing to get to seats, an accident waiting to happen.
Went here 3 months ago to get tickets for mamma.mia, the lady at the box office wasnt the most talkative and friendly but she did the job of getting me tickets for my next show. Usually they are more chatty but not this time.
Went to see Lion King last week. Right from the first moment when all the animals come down the aisles I was hooked. The elephant is amazing ! Thoroughly enjoyed this show. All the actors were brilliant.
Stay away from the Upper Circle! The seats are an awful 'bench' style with minimal leg room. I have sat in more comfortable bus shelters. Show was excellent, or what we were able to enjoy before we started willing it to end after 2.5 hours of both ourselves and everyone around constantly shifting weight as backs, necks and legs ached. There were several people standing to the side for the second part of the act as they could no longer face sitting. If we were not slap bang in the middle of the aisle we would have done the same. However there is so minimal leg room, you arent even able to pass people without them having to stand on their seats to let you through. The toilets were also very small and not near enough for the amount of people in the theatre. Such a shame as the shows that are available are wonderful, and I'm sure if you weren't in the 'cheap seats' it would be a wonderful experience. Just need to sort out the upper circle!
Took my son to see a 10.30am showing of Tom Gates. We used the park and ride service from Brislington as there's a bus stop opposite the Hippodrome but there are car parks near the quay side. The staff were friendly and helpful. The seats are comfortable enough. There are several kiosks for refreshments and also ice cream and program sellers by the isles during the interval. The toilets are small with large queues so best to go before the performance starts. There was merchandise for sale in the foyer after the show had finished.
Have visited the hippodrome many times over the years, always a kept very clean, such a characteristic venue! Pricey for drinks as expected but staff are so friendly and happy to help!
Went to see the have I got news for you show. Lovely building, friendly staff. Only one small point, theatre got very warm during the show, could have done with some air conn.
Went to see Horrible Histories (Saturday matinee) with our disabled son. Access was around the side, directly into a small foyer with stair lift and ramp to get his buggy into the box. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Book of Mormon absolutely brilliant but the seats in the grand circle were uncomfortable and so little leg room my husband got cramp .The air conditioning was cold and blowing right down our necks .The people around us were putting scarves and costs on .This needs to be sorted out asap .
