We were in NZ for holidays, and decided to check out this place. Awesome Irish traditional pub with hearty and wholesome meals, beers and live music on Saturdays.

Reasonable serving sizes and prices.

Easily the best Irish pub in Chch, quality selection of beers available both on tap and in the fridge, liquor shelves are stacked with whatever you could want. Lovely LOVELY staff, good mix of Irish and kiwi lads and lasses, the glassy boys are a good laugh! Could not recommend enough. Thursday night has a cool quiz, good for a group. If you can catch the Black Velvet Band or the Flat City Brotherhood playing there on a Friday or Saturday then you're in for a good time.

My wife and I couldn't walk in at first. The bouncer (Russian accent, looks like Churchill) stood in front of the door and rudely asked where we were going, as if it wasn't obvious we are trying to enter the bar. They don't allow food inside, so he had us leave our leftovers outside on a table that is part of the bar. He then went through our bags and took out our water. We entered and had a beer. After 20 minutes we left and saw that our food was gone. The bouncer had nothing else to do besides pretending to be a tough guy. Why would you want to put up with rude, inconsiderate behaviour?

Would rate 0 if I could.

Would rate 0 if I could.
My partner was man handled and assaulted there by a bouncer for no justified reason or actions. Told management straight away who just laughed it off with the bouncer. We should be able to go out for a night and not have to worry about being hurt by those who are supposed to be there to protect people.
Will not be going back there!

Great place for an after work wind down. Good atmosphere and space to have a drink or ready a meal. Staff are very friendly and willing to bring you your perfectly poured Guinness. Toilets are clean. The whole place is very clean. Food appeared to be enjoyed by those eating. Good outdoor space for having a cigarette or just watching the world pass by.

went once on a Friday night - nice atmosphere and friendly, accommodating staff however they charge $14.50 for a double with juice. up the road the same drink is $9. their justification is that it s $10 per double and $4.50 for the juice. I don t agree with that, and they didn t offer a short glass. Would t go back.

Honestly, this is one of my favourite places in Christchurch. I come here with all my friends about once a month on a Friday after a BYO in town and we all agree its the best. There's a live cover band to sing/scream and dance along to. The bouncers are lovely and the dress code isn't ridiculous like some places, also there's rarely a line. My favourite part is that there is space to dance but also quiet areas where you can actually have a conversation which i feel is missing in many places. I love it here.

Awesome place. Great location. Excellent service. Had the roast of the day, large serving with a generous amount of meat and a large amount and variety of vegetables. Played in the quiz night. Very popular. Band was setting up as we left....should go back. Next week is there birthday. 1990's week. If you haven't been already, drop in to The Bog.

Well, mainly the service. Food was fine but service was rubbish. Staff did not check up on us enough to se if we needed more drinks, waited a long between being asked the 1st time for our order till the next, no asking if our meal was okay and took a long time to clear our plates.

About The Bog Irish Bar

The Bog Irish Bar is a well-known chain of Irish bars and restaurants located in Christchurch and Dunedin. The company has been around for many years, and it has become an institution in the area. The Bog is famous for its Guinness, good times, and authentic Irish atmosphere.

One of the things that sets The Bog apart from other bars is its commitment to providing customers with an authentic Irish experience. From the moment you step inside one of their locations, you'll feel like you've been transported to Ireland. The decor is traditional yet modern, with plenty of dark wood accents, cozy booths, and warm lighting.

Of course, no visit to The Bog would be complete without trying some of their famous drinks. They have an extensive selection of beers on tap, including several varieties of Guinness. If beer isn't your thing, they also have a great selection of wines and spirits.

But it's not just about the drinks at The Bog - they also serve up some delicious food! Their menu features classic pub fare like fish & chips and burgers as well as more traditional Irish dishes like shepherd's pie and bangers & mash. Everything is made fresh using high-quality ingredients.

In addition to great food and drink options, The Bog also hosts regular events throughout the year. From live music performances to trivia nights to holiday celebrations (like St. Patrick's Day), there's always something fun going on at one of their locations.

If you're looking for a place to hang out with friends or catch up over a pint after work, look no further than The Bog Irish Bar. With its welcoming atmosphere, friendly staff members (who are always happy to chat), delicious food & drink options - it's easy to see why this place has become such a beloved institution in Christchurch & Dunedin!
