My husband and I decided to celebrate our Annivers...

My husband and I decided to celebrate our Anniversary at some romantic place not far from home. We made internet research and have found this Hotel. Everything looked perfect on the website: nice room, 6 o'clock cocktail party and finally - 7 pm dinner at the Hotel's restaurant. Our Anniversary happens to be on Sunday. We arrived at 4.30pm to the Hotel and get surprised by a person on the register. She says the restaurant is closed and we will not have a diner. Also, she says our dinner was canceled because we did non conform our restaurants' reservation. Request for confirmation we received by e-mail on the same day. But we were already on our way and have no possibility to check e-mail. Regarding the cocktail party she says- she is a barman as well and can mix for us some drinks. For the diner, she recommended driving to someplace about 20 min away. But can you imagine to find any open place around 6 pm on Sunday at the small city? So, we get our drinks and in our room celebrated our Anniversary. Mad and hungry!!! So, if you want to ruin your Celebration - this is the perfect place!

I was in luck that the annual air show in Oshkosh kept me from finding a room in Fond du Lac where I had business. It was a joy to drive the short commute every day to arrive at this great historic hotel. Great setting, lovely rooms, and great hospitality.

I have been in and out of the Audubon Inn on various occasions and have always been treated well by the staff. Facilities are clean, food is pricey, but worth every penny, and the staff is very classy and friendly. Would recommend for out of town guests or business engagements.

What a dream to stay in this place. My gal and I recently needed to get out of Chiraq and relax for a few days. I can see how people are interested in going to the Marsh, and or... Well. I suppose that's the big sell there. But, since this isn't about the city and about the place itself, I'll stay with that. The room was enchanting, it's exactly what you want an updated 100 year old room to look like. The building is perfect, the neighborhood is amazing. Gal pal was excited to see strawberries and champagne waiting for us, as well as the best massage she claims to have ever had delivered in our room, all set up by the Audubon Inn. They cover everything and just to sit in the lobby (3 of them) and read is a wonderful way to spend a weekend when you are trying to unwind. Also, huge spa tubs, huge. The staff is so nice every single time you run into them. I want to go to a place, if not this place and just stay as I finish up my next book.

Fantastic historic hotel in lovely Mayville. Spacious, well preserved and tastefully modernized rooms and common areas. Super helpful and friendly staff. I look forward to trying Nola, their restaurant.

Very disappointing. Used to be quite a nice place. Unhappy that we were not told when booking - at full price - that the bar and restaurant were closed permanently - one reason we booked this place. TV was the size of a postage stamp and impossible to watch. Shabby and in rough shape, quite a sad place.

My husband & I stayed at the Audubon Inn for two n...

My husband & I stayed at the Audubon Inn for two nights in July, 2012, for a friend's wedding. We love to stay at unique, local establishments instead of the same boring beige chain hotels. In this case, we wish we'd found one of those.

From the moment you walk in the lobby, the carpeting is old, worn, & bunched up in places. We stayed in the Bluebird Suite -- which was two tiny rooms, not the spacious suite we expected. Again, the carpeting was worn, the furniture shabby -- the windows had several large cracks in them!! The t.v. was a small tube set (from the 1980's??) that could barely be seen from the bed. There was absolutely NO comfortable furniture in the room from which to watch the tiny television. The one almost-saving grace was the large jacuzzi tub in the bathroom. I say 'almost' because this tub doubled as the shower -- so was difficult to get into, and was extremely slippery to stand in while showering. The 'suite' was also in need of a good cleaning -- we couldn't decide if the bathroom was old, or if it was filthy.

To add to our disappointment, we ate dinner in the Beaumont Restaurant. My husband had a salad, which he really enjoyed. I had the ribs -- which were incredibly tough & covered in a bottled sauce. (I had asked the waitress if she recommended the ribs, and she actually said she "couldn't say", since she'd never tried them.) Some definite training issues there.

Overall, this is a hotel to avoid -- at least until it has a good makeover. Perhaps someone should call Gordon Ramsey & "Hotel Hell".

This is probably the best restaurant in a 20 mile radius, and considering its location it is a really excellent place. We had two appetizers, both of which were fairly normal things with a unique twist or way of preparing it. The steak and salmon were very good as well.

We also enjoyed the atmosphere. While the dining room is a little sparse, the building itself has character.

The service reasonable and polite, but was nothing special.

If it were near a lot of other good restaurants it wouldn't stick out in particular, but location is everything. In all, this may be the best option in this region of the state.

Went to the restaurant, waitress was incredibly rude. Fish fry was horrid without any type of flavor, my husband's brussel sprouts were great. My brussel sprouts however were only flakes. Service was slow and we were neglected to be checked on except for the manager to refill water. Super disappointed as we wanted to try the food as the atmosphere and live music were intriguing. The only saving grace was the manager who was truly concerned about our poor experience. Do not waste your time coming to this restaurant as there are many other smaller restaurants with friendlier staff and way better food for half the price. Or, spend your money elsewhere at a upscale restaurant as they more than likely would have flavor to their food. So sorry to have to write such a bad review. I wouldn't even give it a one star.

Room was fantastic. Comfortable bed and pillows. Nice jacuzzi tub. Big problem with the Nola dining room. Way overrated and over priced. Do not get the seafood boil unless you are going up right away. I had no crab at all. No more was brought out. Friend had the steak with mushrooms. Mediocre at best and the green beans were something deep fried you could get at a bar. Came out cool, not hot. VERY DISAPPOINTING!

Found this place on Google Maps and so glad I went. Love the turn of the century motif and decor. Great vintage atmosphere. Thermostats seem a tad finicky but it also could be user error which is known to happen with me. Wifi was spotty the last 12 hours of my visit out of 36. I plan on a returning for another "me weekend". Great staff, very friendly.

This is a beautiful hotel with wonderful accommodations and excellent service. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the rooms were very clean and quaint. The new ownership has done a great job with the renovations, especially considering the building was built in 1896. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a perfect weekend getaway.

Very Nice Stay - We stayed two nights and ate at the restaurant 3 times. The food was good, its a small town, so I thought it was great for the small town! We had drinks (good sangria especially) fish, burger, sandwich, cheese appetizer More

We had a great time at this historic inn. It was so much fun to imagine ourselves in the 1890s or so because of the great period furniture. Staff was super friendly, food was super tasty. I will return with even more time to sit in the nice cozy sitting areas and play board games or read. A person can get very relaxed here. Mayville is a nice, quiet farm community and the staff can help you with recommendations on activities such as Horicon Marsh boat tours.

"Comfortable beds and nice rooms" doesn't do justice for this inn. It's a small, cozy inn welcomed with great service and friendly smiles. The rooms are well lit with beautiful lamps and elegant decor. Classic music plays as you relax in a 1-2 person sized jacuzzi, and the beds are like sleeping on silky, plush clouds. Well worth the stay and then some.

Very pretty, Victorian quaint atmosphere...restaurant was underwhelming. We ate on a Sunday night at 5:30 with our friends who heard it was good food. Our waitress was a bit pretentious & rude (you're in Mayville lady) & somewhat condescending when asked about the thick cod en papillote. I asked her how it was made (I have many food allergies, dairy being one & wanted to avoid butter), she seemed to sigh & replied "in paper"...Really? She quickly said, 'If you order that we only have 2 left'. What? My friend asked about the scallops & she was told 'We have 4 of those left'. My friend's husband asked about the pork shoulder & was told 'We only have 2 of those'. What is going on here??? I've NEVER heard a wait staff tell us their quantity BEFORE ordering. Tacky tacky. It put some doubt into our minds about what our meals would be like. She was resistant to 'educate' us on how our meals were prepared (i.e. spices, flavors, 'sell' us on the specialties if you are portaying your restaurant as high end as you think you are (for example, Ruth Chris Steakhouse). When she left after we ordered, our friends also commented on how she was a bit rude (glad it wasn't just me). My cod was good but the smallest most pitiful sized 2 pieces (about 3 in. X 1 1/2 in. tube like pieces) with 2-3 fingerling potatoes, and fennel (looked like onions so imagine the drabness & lack of color to my meal). NO colorful vegetables whatsoever. For $21!!!!! I was skepticial to even ask for an additional serving of vegetables thinking I'd get a scolding. I had to eat my husband's brussel sprouts to fill myself (which I was STILL hungry!). I'm a size 4/6 125# woman & when I leave a restaurant still hungry...that's pathetic. The men's dinners were apparently good but my friends scallops were not seared just lightly browned & she said she could do better. Needless to say, all 4 of us were extremely unimpressed & will not return.

Monday- April (the manager) called me today with the sincerest, most professional apology (ever) to my review. Shout out to you April. I am hopeful she will make any possible return worth our while.

I enjoyed my stay at this unique inn. It's a beautiful updated old building with very nice rooms and features. The bed was super comfortable, everything was clean with some special touches. The bathroom had a large jacuzzi tub. I did hear movement from the room above, but it didn't bother me. I would definitely stay there again.

Charming and quaint. Very restful environment. Friendly, helpful staff. The new owner (as of early 2014) is in the process of renovating and updating the entire hotel. Creaky floors, but this adds to the old-fashioned charm.

Gorgeous historic hotel with a lot of character. Ample room in the rooms. Multiple floors to pick from, providing privacy for everyone. The restaurant provides a high end dining experience, farm to table, in a very intimate setting.

Few things worthy of note:
Dinner requires a reservation, so plan ahead.
Beds are quite soft. Larger folks, or those with back pain may find this uncomfortable.
Rooms come with an additional heater for the cold months. Turn it up, and leave it on.
It is a historic building, and is insulated and uses radiant heat.

I loved old fashioned charm with updated amenities at The Audubon Inn. We had a beautiful corner room on the third floor with a deep soaking hot tub that was soothing after a long day of hiking the marsh. The towels were over-sized and plump and the bathroom was supplied with all the little extras along with a hair dryer. The rooms were extra large for an Inn built in 1896. And the James Audubon artwork in the lobby and the all around the square open staircase leading up to the third floor was exquisite, not only remembering, but also honoring the buildings time period and its location, just a stones throw from Horicon Marsh. I also noticed all the little extra effort the hosts had made to make our stay just as pleasant as could be. The large landings had beautifully decorated seating areas where you could gather with other members of your group for a casual game or a drink, each level with its own gathering space something modern hotel lack. You will also find games casually strewn about for your use. And there were large and over-sized coffee table books about birds for your reading pleasure. And I appreciated the fresh scent of an air-freshner to greet us when we entered our room, made me think they wanted me to feel as much at home as when I have guests over night at our house. All of the public rooms, the lobby, dinning room, restaurant and bar are warm and inviting. The bar and the dinning room have full walls of stained glass or etched windows with birds and incorporation information for each village or city from all of the surrounding communities. I was really impressed with each and every room. Our stay was over a Friday evening and as a time honored Wisconsin tradition we had the hotel restaurants Friday Night Catfish Fry complete with the most flavorful creole sauce I've ever had! (I think they should bottle and sell this New Orleans flavored treat, it would make a wonderful gift.) I really enjoyed my stay and my dinner and was sad I had to leave extra early the next morning. I also know I can't wait to return in July!

I think they were way busier than planned and everything was very slow. Chef and two young men that seemed to be doing everything from serving to bussing were very apologetic and discounted our bill to make up for the delays. All that said, the food was good enough to try them again to see if it was just a bad night which I'm guessing it was. The three afore mentioned gentlemen should be commended for their efforts to save the evening.

Hotel and restaurant/bar wonderful. I give the staff a F on answering phone calls. Tried to book the premier room called several times and left a message. No call back. Not very professional and went with different suite. Must wonder how much business they are losing.

Pros:

Pros:
The massage and dinner at the restaurant.

Cons:
The ceiling in our room was in need of repair (drywall tape coming off), the bathroom ceiling was a bit water stained/moldy looking, the trash in our room was never emptied, nor did it look like our sink/toilet were cleaned the 3 days we stayed here. Also, the restaurant is only open for dinner (except for a Sunday brunch), which is really strange given the town only has one horribly slow "cafe" and a single coffee shop.

Last weekend was our 2nd time staying at this charming, historic hotel and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The service, from front desk to the restaurant NOLA, was warm and very accommodating. The hotel is going through renovations and it was exciting to see the updates made from last year. NOLA is gorgeous! We had a memorable dinner as we were treated to a delicious, fresh, and fun five course tasting menu created by the executive chef. The modern Cajun cuisine rivaled any high end restaurant in the Milwaukee or Madison area. Considering WI lacks restaurants offering authentic Cajun fair, this was definitely a treat! The only thing missing was a few hot sauces to play with- they had Tabsaco which was somewhat boring in our opinion. Whether the chef creates them himself or buys some of Mandy's locally made hot sauces (we enjoyed those at the Blue Spoon near Wollersheim Winery) think about letting the customers kick it up a notch!
We also loved that every room has a large whirlpool bath. We will definitely visit again. Hopefully, with friends or family next time.

We were there for the fish fry, which we were told was "bottomless." Apparently bottomless means they bring you one plate with five quarter sized pieces of cod and don't bring out any more. We were still hungry when we got the bill.

The Audubon Inn is a beautiful newly renovated historical building in downtown Mayville, WI. The restaurant is in-house and called Noras. The food is either very good or very poor. The service is slow.... expect to spend a long time waiting for your food. The food many times comes out cold or overdone. Although many of their food items are unique, there is a small variety. Noras is known for their roasted brussel sprouts, which are excellent. The wait staff does not match the setting of the restaurant. The workers need to be trained in hospitality & gracefulness. The bedrooms are beautiful and reminds me of a bed and breakfast. Very much worth a visit. Mayville is a beautiful small town.

Old but modernized hotel. Rooms and beds are comfy. Bathroom modern but pedestal sink has zero counter-top space for anything.

This is the closest hotel we could find while in Wisconsin for the U.S. Open at Erin Hills. I'm guessing rooms here are normally in the $80-100 range. We paid $230 (tax included) for a room with two queen beds.

The hotel restaurant (NOLA) is good but not great. Reasonably priced. Homemade chicken soup was tasty.
