I have been associated with South Texas Orthopedics since the early 1990s. During this time, Dr. Race has performed surgery on both knees, giving me top of the line medical care. The office staff has help with paperwork and schedules that has made my experience during these surgeries, second to none. Class act on both sides of the table.

Dr. Blais has been a great doctor so far! He did an arthroscopic ACL reconstruction on my knee and has been very helpful throughout the entire process. This is my third ACL repair and by far my best experience. I appreciate that every visit he explains the details of exactly what s going on with my knee, whether it s of the MRI, surgery photos, upcoming/past procedures, etc. He takes the time to answer all questions and I never feel rushed during my visit. When I first showed up he did a great job of laying out my options, making sure to offer non-surgical solutions while ultimately letting me choose what was best for my lifestyle. Very professional and seems to really care. Can t say enough great things.

Took my daughter to get treated by Dr. Savage. He just tried to get her out of there as quickly as possible on three different occasions. He told me he would schedule a foot specialist for her next visit only to find out he didn't when we arrived for her follow up. He blamed his staff for the mix up and never took any responsibility. He again tried to send us off without any answers. We wasted three visits and are now looking elsewhere to take her. Not to mention our time and money. Very disappointed.

Really like Dr. Mukai's brisk expertise & efficiency, & was disappointed in my inability to receive steroid injection tx recently, due to muscle jumpiness & fear on my part. Staff are very nice. But the consult/tx rooms are FREEZING, & boring. Turn down the AC & put in some good reading material!
Thanks

I saw Westmoreland for pain in my leg below my knee. He ordered an x-ray of my knee and walked into the exam room and stated the x-ray was negative. I told him I didn t think it was an issue with my knee but possibly a tendon or a ligament. I also told him I was in pain and asked him what I should do. He stated, I don t know and left the room . Really? And they bill my insurance over $600.

I ve had my surgeries and now I also have my yearly injections on my foot which helps me a lot. They always make feel comfortable and always figure out what the problem is, I trust them and I thank them once again.

I hate to change my mind on the 4* review I had given before but I just had an appt for a new issue at the south location. Appt was at 210 but didn't even get to go from the big waiting room to the small one until about 230. no biggie...an hour later still have not been seen. If I had not gone out to speak to someone not sure how much longer I may have been waiting but I won't know because I did not get to see the doctor. No apologies, no checking in for updates, nada. I try to always put myself in the other person's shoes so they may have been super busy or there may have been person(s) with more severe cases. but I don't know because nobody ever let me know. I just hope they are not addressing appts in order of severity is all I gotta say. I took time out of my work day; even had to use some time off to make sure I could get in because I wanted to go to someplace I knew and liked. Ultimately I guess joke is on me because that just helped out the next poor soul waiting who knows how long to be seen. The staff is very friendly and professional and I absolutely love Dr Mukai. but this pretty much has made me decide to look elsewhere (esp since physical therapy side doesn't accept Aetna). and i still need to get my arm looked at and will have to take time off from work AGAIN.

Never saw a doctor because staff was too busy or incompetent to give me the details needed prior to going here. If this how they treat potential new patients, I hate to see how they treat existing patients. Wasted my time and unnecessarily complicated my recovery.

On second visit I saw a surgeon who I was hoping would repair knee that is bone on bone as a result of RA. His suggestion was referral to his partners... more money, etc. Since I already have upcoming appointment with a specialist at Advanced Pain Care who will be doing the same treatments with same wanted outcome without other specialists and more shots and drawn out visits I decided to go to APC and see the outcome without the extra pain and discomfort of travel and enduring pain while waiting for relief. Since I have had satisfying results at APC I am going to continue with them and opt for effective pain relief. I only went to Texas Orth because my family insisted I try to get surgery first. While I am still going to continue to treat RA with methods offered at APC I also must endure the disrespect of my family who think I should buck up and only use pain meds after I can no longer move and am crying from terrible pain. It makes the pain worse without their support and understanding. My suggestion is take care of the pain while treating the problem. Do not be ashamed of trying to get relief while treating the problem.

Bad experience with billing/front staff. I had a good experience that ended badly. Im walking out when a staff person stops me and tells me to call my insurance company because Tx Ortho's system has received a dicrepancy from my insurance that my birthdate doesnt match what my insurance has in their records. Staff person repeats my correct birthdate and I affirm it is correct and I will call my insurance. Long story short, nothing wrong with my insurance information. I call Tx Ortho and talk to someone named Diane and ask her to call my insurance and not rely on their system. After some back and forth with her she finally decides to check and see if my Insurance ID has been logged in correctly. It isn't and that turns out to be the problem. So whats my beef? That I had to make calls and argue with a staff person in order to have them correct a mistake they were attributing to me and my insurance. Did I get an apology from Diane at the end of the call? No apology and lack of courtesy is what I got. Don't know if the rest of the staff needs courtesy training but Diane does.

Great Dr Race. Actually told me my hip was broken in 2 places. Previous drs just told me I was obese and go back to Dr who refered me. Not only humiliating but ignored the breaks altogether. I know Im over weight and dont need a total jerk like dr bozic to rub my face in it. Maybe if either of these jerks ( bozic and viet tran) had treated my hip I could walk and exercise . Dr Race just told me about my fractures and start a treatment plan without surgery. Needless to say I was terrified to see Dr Race after previous experiences but was happily surprised.

I have been nothing but pleased and comforted by every member of the staff, from the attendants at the counter to Dr Schultz, my hip replacement surgeon. At 46 I was young for this operation and they made everything custom fit my needs. Couldn't be happier. Dr Mukai who discovered what the issue was, to Dr Schultz who has done the operation. Just wonderful. They were recommended to me via a friend and coworker, I will do the same.

This is a tough one because the doctors are great the facilities billing practices are very odd. I've been charged after my visits with no explanation and getting a hold of someone who works on the billing is proving difficult as they have not returned my three calls. I have an up coming procedure but might look into another office that has clearer billing practices. Just be aware if you having anything done at their surgical center they bill separately and will ask you for payment up front and will not offer any payment plans.

This is a great place if you have to have physical therapy. I had shoulder surgery. I am a 68 year old woman. I thought my range of motion would be limited. Thanks to the physical therapy I had at Texas Orthopedics after 3 months I am doing great. Dr McDonald did a great job on my shoulder surgery & George my physical therapist did a great on helping me on how to use my arm & shoulder again. Thank you all for everything.

Dr. Savage has treated me through several severe orthopedic issues, including a hip replacement, diagnosis of knee issues as well as determining that one issue was actually my back and not my leg. Through it all, he maintains a pragmatic, "live your life" approach to medicine which is refreshing. He's direct, yet courteous, so you always know exactly what he's thinking. No games. I can't imagine a better surgeon to trust my care to.

Dr Mukai is such a caring doctor. I highly recommend her. The staff at the South location is superior to any staff I have worked with in any doctors office. Personable, friendly, thoughtful and efficient.
My only suggestion would be to walk through the office with an open eye...there is a lot of clutter in the office area and with a little thought and a few cabinets, you could make the office look cleaner, more organized and more up-to-date. Remember when a pt is checking in, they can see all your stuff!

Dr Smoot crippled me for life by fatally damaged m...

Dr Smoot crippled me for life by fatally damaged my FHL tendon during a subtalor fusion; this tendon was not part of the surgery and should not have been touched. Additionally the fusion failed because the screws backed out. He initially apologized, said he was sorry he hit the tendon. This situation is unrepairable because he and TMLT, (malpractice insurance provider), would not help me soon enough before the muscle atrophied and became useless. Stay away from Tx Ortho, they are not your friends!

If you need orthopedic surgery, you ll be risking your health and financial future by using Tx Ortho! If you get hurt by a doctor at TxOrtho they will have their malpractice insurance provider (TMLT), fight you in every underhanded way they can get away with to financially cripple you and make you go away. They hide behind the changes tort reform made in 2003.

Go somewhere else, save your life!

I was seen by Dr. West Moreland for a problem with my shoulder that occurred suddenly, and caused almost complete inmobility. Initially I went to a chiropractor, but each day the condition got worse. Dr. West Moreland treated me in the office, and within hours I started regaining movement in my arm, and within a week I had full mobility back.

Texas Orthopedics is a modern, full service medical center, so you will not have to run around from building to building, or get referrals. Big thank you to the very professional nurses and x-ray staff.

I met Dr Garcia for the first time yesterday, 4/17. He is very knowledgeable, as you would expect, but I was impressed that he looks you in the eyes and listens to everything you have to say. Not even a hint of rushing you to get to the next patient as you see so often these days in this insurance driven business. His treatment gave me immediate relief and not only will I visit again, I highly recommend him and his excellent and exceptional staff...

I saw Dr. Blais in June following a terrible experience at Southwest Orthopaedic Group (SOG). While SOG had given me the impression that an ACL Revision surgery was needed (fairly soon), and I would have been scheduled for surgery had their office staff actually returned my calls and e-mails (I initiated care with them in April), Dr. Blais explicitly stated he did not recommend ACL Revision "at this time". Dr. Blais did request an X-ray that day (done in office) as I had only had an MRI for this issue. Dr. Blais reviewed both my MRI and X-ray with me in his office the same day (not done at SOG) and was supportive, but not pushy with how to proceed, although again - he recommended against surgery at this time. Dr. Blais outlined, specifically, the steps we could take to address my primary complaint (regular swelling of the knee, swollen for 3 days at a time, limited ROM, discomfort with swelling but no pain), with surgery being at the very bottom of the list. He agreed my issue was complex, but there were still several possible interventions to try. Based on all Dr. Blais presented to me about my condition, I decided to proceed with a cortisone shot and ordered a knee brace (will take several weeks to receive). In addition to my positive experience with Dr. Blais, I can also say the office staff was helpful and friendly. It was very easy to get an appointment, I called on Tuesday/ Wednesday, got in on a Friday. Check-in was also super easy with their electronic tablet/ iPad. I'll update this review as needed based on future care I receive from Dr. Blais/ this practice, but I would recommend Texas Orthopedics South Austin.

After experiencing a traumatic knee injury while playing a sport, I saw Dr. Robert Blais. I was diagnosed with a torn ACL with tears to my lateral and medial meniscus. He was extremely professional and informative discussing my options. Without much thought I decided on surgery. Dr. Blais took great care describing the procedure and answering all of my questions. It has been 8 months since surgery and I am doing very well...jogging and hiking (while wearing my brace of course).
If I ever need an orthopedic again, Dr. Robert Blais will be my guy!

Let me start by stating I will be happy to change ...

Let me start by stating I will be happy to change my review once I actually get the help I was promised. I saw Doctor Onana on 8/13. He was my second opinion surgeon to find out if I needed surgery on my spine because I did not feel comfortable with my first doctor. After confirming that I did in fact need to get the discs replaced in my spine he told me I should call the surgery scheduler to schedule my surgery. After sleeping on it I called the scheduler the next day (8/14). I left a voicemail. I still had not heard from anyone at the end of the day Monday 8/17. I called them back about 10 times and no one would answer the phone. The front desk transferred me to the team lead over the scheduling department. She called me back the next day and said she would have someone reach out to me and send an email to the scheduler. I got a voicemail late in the day on 8/18 advising that someone will reach out to me the next day to schedule my surgery. I STILL HAVE NO HEARD FROM ANYONE. From a customer service standpoint, at least give me realistic expectations. Or let me know if you are too busy to schedule it right now and will call me back later this week. I am tired of waiting to hear what my options are and if I am actually going to get my surgery. I have already looked up other doctors and will be going to another surgeon next week.

The meniscus tear surgery done by Dr. Savage has held up very well over the years, but age takes it toll. Saw him to assess the knee and help me decide if it was time for a revised plan.
