From what i u understand Terry Blacks is a local favorite. I enjoyed the brisket. It was delicious and we had green beans and cole slaw. Both were yummy. Be prepared to stand in line even on a Tuesday but it was worth it. Being from Virginia the sauces were runny like NC style but more tasty. Truthfully the sauces were not needed. Gotta go here whenever you're in Austin!

Me and my family were denied service because we didn't have a mask. Yet i noticed that a few others there did not have masks either. It's a shame. We are tourists and we just wanted to try the place out. I will NEVER come here again.

The BBQ (ribs, sausage and brisket) is tender and flavorful (I didn't need to add sauce), the sides are also good (not too cheesy mac and cheese, crisp green beans, not too sweet banana pudding), but everything is a tad on the expensive side. Understandable as it is right in town.

Excellent. Perfect Exactly what I wanted. I had never been to Austin, or even Texas, in my life, and I wanted real barbecue. Not formal, not artisanal, not ironic, not mass-produced, not hipster, not backyard, and not tourist trap. And I can't believe how lucky I got. The friendly and fun bartender at the YETI store (no joke) recommended Terry Black's and it delivered on, nope, it surpassed all of my expectations. Decor is like an airy and comfortable roadside smoke shack crossed with a clean barn, with both indoor and porch seating, plus horse parking. (Kidding. The livestock troughs are full of beer and soda and the hitching rail is inside next to the tables, so leave the equine friends at home.) But be sure to bring a giant appetite. For sides, I tried and wholeheartedly recommend the creamed corn, Mac n cheese, rice, and Cole slaw. (The pudding tempted me hard with its layers of promise, but by dessert time I was too darn full. Inferior single-stomach human anatomy). I also tried and will forever be devoted to the brisket, beef rib, and pork rib. All were delicious. The beef rib will first remind you of The Flintstones, then of steak au poivre, and then of nothing you've ever experienced culinarily, especially not that so-called barbecue of dry strings you've been so cruelly duped into believing represented the gifts bestowed by slow smoking fat cuts. I now truly understand what the texas-sized fuss is over barbecue and why so many people are passionately devoted it. And I thank Terry Black's for capping off my Texas trip with this powerful experience and a meal of pure bliss. Three tips: Don't try to be cavalier and noncommittal and pick up the slice of brisket with your fingers. It won't work. You will feel silly. (But oh my lone star, nothing matters once you taste that brisket. Except getting the next bite.) Be prepared for the fastest transformation from ravenous delirium to digestive immobility you've ever known. Be sure not to miss the mural, the giant boot, the genuine saddle, the horseshoes in the floor and chair backs, and the bottles of Frostie orange soda. Alas, back home to NJ/NYC I must go, but I will cherish this dining experience and will never again touch 'barbecue' north of Barton Springs Road again. Well, until Terry Black opens a Manhattan tin shack horse barn smoked brisket paradise, of course. (Doesn't hurt to plant a seed.) But if you are in Austin I highly recommend Terry Black's, and that goes double for tourists, and triple for tourists from the Northeast.

Food was very good. We tried the beef ribs, pork ribs and sausage. The beef ribs were my favorite with the sausage coming in 2nd. My only complaint is the food could of been warmer, cools down as it sits out. The guys running the smokers gave me a little tour of their operation. They filled me in on how the process works, very much appreciated the time they spent...nice little touch before heading in to eat!

When you walk up, you can see the smokehouse where all the meat is cooked, which is pretty cool. The service is cafeteria style, where you serve your own sides and they give you the meat you want. The sides are a bit pricey at $2.25 (I believe) a piece. For three of us, with fountain drinks, it was over $50. I've had better BBQ for less than that, but the atmosphere is cool.

This was the absolute best brisket I ve ever had in my life. It was totally worth the wait in the line, only about 30 minutes late on Saturday night. 1/2 pound of meat and two sides left both of us full and happy.

I've been several times, and anyone not rating this 4 or 5 star doesn't know what they're talking about. If you go to a barbecue place to eat barbecue, don't complain about sides. Are they great? Probably not, but if your only comments are about sides then you went for the wrong reasons. If you're used to barbecue from elsewhere maybe this won't be your favorite, I don't know. If you love Texas barbecue (especially beef ribs...) this is one of the BEST places to eat. I'm driving 2 hours to eat here for my birthday tomorrow it's that good.

They use PRIME beef, and yes it can be a bit fatty and it weighs a TON per slice of brisket. Ignore how much it appears to be, though, because they slice it thick and it's FULL of moisture, the way it should be. Go there to enjoy eating some of the BEST barbecue in the WORLD! I've been to probably 15 of the "top 50" places in Texas and this is #1 or #2, right there with the crosstown rival that I'd have to spend half my day in line to eat.

Oh. My. Goodness. No contest, THE best BBQ joint in Austin, maybe even Texas as a whole. If anyone says otherwise they're lying and they're uncultured. First, you choose your sides. I went with corn, Mac n cheese, and green beans. Then, I grabbed a water bottle. The meat is expensive, but you get what you pay for. I bought brisket and pork ribs. It looks just like it tastes. Amazing. I used the original sauce. I tried the spicy sauce, but they use mustard for that sauce and I'm not a fan of mustard. The original however is amazing. The meat is so good, you don't have to add sauce. It was my first place in Austin and everything will pale in comparison. The food, customer service and atmosphere is enough to make me go broke, wanting to go there each and every single day.

Food was great and we actually moved through the line pretty fast. Speaking of which, the setup was kind of unexpected. The setup was kind of buffet style. You stand in line and once inside, there's a cafeteria style buffet. You grab a tray and side containers, choose your sides, then walk over to the cashier where there's a meat carver who serves your meat right there. I didn't really have any reservations with this restaurant until I was choosing my sides and I heard the guy next to me in line suck food off his fingers so then I thought, maybe someone should serve the sides too.

Damn good barbeque. Had brisket and sausage and both were excellent. This place is the real deal, and the comfortable atmosphere made the experience even better. The sides are so-so, but who goes to bbq joints for the sides?

Delicious, the brisket is always on point fatty is best but lean is good too. I would also recommend the turkey. Great place to bring your out of town guests for a good Texas barbecue experience without a three hour wait.

Wow! Delicious barbeque. Very easy to spend a lot of money here on pork or beef ribs because they go by weight and the bones weigh a lot (beef ribs are huge btw). Definitely go with the brisket if you want the best value. I would also recommend the peach cobbler and Mac N Cheese as sides. Both were delicious. Also have a good drink selection and a cool location/setting.

My experience trying to complete a delivery was horrible. First I can t place it over the phone to maximize my time and the whole process of waiting in line when I m doing deliveries was trash. You have patrons who want to order at your restaurant, but you make that process difficult...why?? I understand the experience you re creating for the customers that dine in, however what about those that aren t??

It was 8PM on a Thursday. An hour before closing time and the line was a few yards long starting at the door. The hype was real. We grabbed a lb of brisket, lb of sausage, lb of rib, and some sides. That meal was deliciously shared between 5 people. Definitely worth the wait.

Not sure what's in the Cream corn but I think it might be crack. My gf and I waited in line for a long while but it was well worth it. The meat was nice, juicy and tender and the sides were some of the best I've had. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and hot sauces varying from sweet to hot. Mucho bueno

Like appears long but it isn t that long compared to other bbq places. Parking is kinda bad you just have to wait for someone to go so you can find parking. Dog friendly. It s a cafeteria style serving and it is delicious!

My favorite bbq I've tried in Austin, thus far. I'm not a native, so I'm sure people there have different input, but it was incredible. The place was packed when we went, but we found seating and enjoyed the meal a lot!

We tried a variety of meats and sides and the meat was all fantastic! I really like the original barbecue sauce, but everything is so tender and flavorful that you really don't need it. The sides were all decent, but creamed corn was the best, though next time I plan to double up on the brisket and not bother with a side! Tip: Call your order in ahead of time so you can avoid the line!

**BEST BRISKET EVER** We've been to a lot of BBQ places around Texas (including Franklin's, Black's and Salt Licks) this place has their brisket seasoning & smoking down to a T. I'm pretty sure they put crack in it! Their turkey and pork ribs are just as delicious! The potato salad, green beans and cream corn are very tasty. I'm not a big fan of the mac & cheese or their banana pudding. They get very busy so make sure to arrive early or you'll be waiting in line for about an hour. Oh, parking is a nightmare!
