The BEEF RIB is the real deal. Don't get these brothers confused with Blacks BBQ. There are the Grand-kids of the original Blacks who have worked hard to open their own restaurant. Best Beef Rib In TEXAS-The smoked turkey is awesome. And cream corn!!! 1.5 pounds of pure love! I have been eating here since they opened 6 years ago.

Having heard good things about Terry Black's and being a fan of Black's Barbecue in Lockhart, a group of us came here on a Saturday night. There was a decently long line, but it did move surprisingly quick. The food was delicious! Beef ribs were all out, but the pork ribs were tender and flavorful. The brisket was insane! Sausage; yum! Turkey; tender and juicy! Even the sides were great. Usually, the sides are fillers and something it seems they feel compelled to serve. Not here. Good, good, good. Highly recommend!
Waiting line wasn't bad at 230pm. Waited maybe 20 minutes. All meats were excellent (tried the brisket, beef ribs, turkey and sausage). The Mac and cheese was bonkers. Left with the meat sweats.
Terry Black's barbecue needs a bigger parking lot. The brisket was perfectly seasoned and delicious without adding sauce and the jalapeno and cheddar sausage was smoked just right.
I was so looking forward to some awesome brisket, after reading all the wonderful reviews, but the only positive thing was that the line wasn't long! I'm so disappointed, because the chopped brisket was so salty with no smoke taste to it. The mac and cheese was mushy; no flavor. The potato salad, horrible. I drove 3 1/2 hours to try this restaurant; never again! The refills on the drinks were amazing and the lays potato chips were good. I'm still hungry. I'm so happy I didn't get the meat by the pound. If I could rate this place a -1, I would!
Here with friends after the Formula One. Brisket is great, some of the best I've ever had..cobbler wasn't fully cooked. Service very friendly. Jose is awesome and very welcoming. Would definitely come back.
Delicious, some of the best bbq I ever had Cream corn: absolutely wonderful Mac n cheese: good Ribs and brisket: fantastic Turkey: incredibly moist Definitely coming back when in in Austin next.
Fatty brisket, beef rib, turkey and jalapeno cheddar sausage is the way to go! 1 beef rib is probably enough for one person with sides. Sides seem to vary from day to day. The baked beans were terrible.
While my son was at Rice playing bb i would go see him and one time we were in Austin we came here. Its the best bbq in Austin. Id go out of my way to make sure we ate here. The twin brothers are two great people who really care about what is being served. Ive also ordered their chilled meats and want more as soon as it arrives. Great customer service
The line was long but moved very fast. The staff are friendly and helpful. All the meats are really good and my daughter loved the Mac n Cheese. The house made jalapeno sausage has a great flavor without being overly spicy. Even the turkey surprised me, but it's really good and worth the try. It's so easy to buy too much, and then eat it all. Definitely a place to return to when I'm in town again. It's a little pricey, and I come from SoCal, the land of pricey but if you want good BBQ you must try this spot out.
My favorite place to eat BBQ in Austin. Definitely need to get in early because parking is limited. Never disappointed in the food quality of this location.
Terry Black's is a great all-around barbecue destination that's recently been added to the Austin BBQ scene. This was a good way to end our day. Our order here was just right--one thick slice of peppery, Central Texas-style brisket that Black's is known for, and a great sparerib (maybe the best of our day). If you've been to Black's in Lockhart, you'll have a familiar sense of the pedigree of that brisket.
First let me confess, I am not too crazy about barbecue, just not crazy about brown sugar coated meat. But who cares when you feel like eating flesh. I went to Austin on 9/22/2017 for a conference at the Westin Hotel downtown Austin. After 5 hours in conference, I am cold and hungry, they keep the conference room ridiculously cold. So I drove to Terry Black's, it's like 10min from the Hotel, across the Colorado river.
Line wasn't so bad, about 15 min, but it was around 2pm, so a little past lunch time. I bet the wait time is more during peak hours.
You get your side items first, then you get your meat at the counter.
I got the beef rib, I believe it was over a pound. It's huge, look at the picture. Good lord it's moist, falls apart, and is delicious. I ate the entire thing, except the fat layer on top. Staring at a bare bone is so satisfying. I ate the rice, the green beans, the peach cobbler, I ate the whole thing.
One advise: I sat outside, and so if you do the same, make sure you do not leave your plate unattended. Never walk away without someone attending your plate. I did that to pick up some napkins, walked way for about 10seconds, and as soon as I turned around, there is a bird picking on my side item; I am glad it wasn't the rib.
I can say this was the best barbecue I've ever had, ever.
I'm a local, this used to be the Holiday house, among others. Finally, no "waste your time waiting in line", but overall service was thumbs down. Sides counter personnel were friendly.. However, front main/cashier counter horrible! 5 people back there and I had to vocally keep my place with under 10 people in vision.. Two large persons behind me proceeded to cut as I was trying to social distance; and when I spoke up blame was immediately pointed my way.. I had my side in hand.. I went through normally. Anyways, almost handed my sandwich no bag, and zero response from cashier when I tried levity. I normally tip well, but no eye contact and just handed change.. without a "Thank you." My exact words were, "excuse me, but I was next." I felt immediately signed off, just by speaking up respectfully. Bored of no one paying attention, while being paid, between peak hours. Overpriced tourist trap with UNDER TRAINED over-staffing.. Gl fellas!
Possibly mine and my wife s favorite barbecue spot in Austin. Sides are great.. Mains are even better(especially the brisket and pulled pork). also if memory serves me right, they have 3 different sauces (sweet, spicy, and a mustard base sauce, I think) and they re all fantastic. The line can be intimidating some times, but it moves pretty quickly on most days. Service is always great and you can tell the employees enjoy working there.
This place received a lot more buzz than the last time I've been here years ago. The was a line out the door, but it went by quickly (maybe 20mins) and after we found seating easily enough. The BBQ was worth the relatively short weight, our brisket came with a sliced up piece of the "burnt ends" they were delicious. The beef ribs came out incredibly tender and not too barky. A great option for that Hill country style BBQ that Austin has become known for.
It was just OK. I decided to visit on a recommendation from a coworker. This guy raved about TB for a good 5 minutes, but he is from New Orleans and cannot be taken at his word about barbecue. I have eaten it all BBQ wise. It was fine. The sides need work. I had the pintos and potato salad. Both sides needed seasonings. I has some cheese sausage, brisket, and ribs. The meat was good quality, pretty as a picture on the tray, nice smoke, but didn't take me to heaven.
Fantastic set up for flow. Meat and sides were amazing. This was the only BBQ spot we tried while in Austin and i don't feel like i missed out not visiting others!
This is our favorite BBQ place in Austin. Great location, amazing food. We end up here every time someone from out of town visits. Nice outdoor seating is available.
Yummy! The turkey is my favorite but the brisket is delicious too. Cafeteria style dining. Laid back atmosphere. Love love love the spicy BBQ sauce. Outdoor and indoor seating
Ask for the PIT TOUR. Friendly staff and they cut the meat you want in front of you by the register! Ordered the beef rib and the meat just. Melted off the bone! Quality and flavorful must try! Also ordered the marble brisket. Each table has these sauces you'll have to try. Unlimited amount of bread by the utensils and ice cream display.
Took a family of 2 adults and 2 small teens. Spent almost $150+ for the meal and I have no complaints other than its time for them to expand the dining area lol.
Real brisket done right. Buttery soft and juicy. Pork ribs were great. Mac and cheese was phenomenal, no limit on the bread, so you can make your own sandwich whichever way you want. Not a sauce guy myself, but all my table said they liked it. Not that expensive when split it up between a group. You can make out at $15-20 a plate and have trouble walking back to your car
The food was amazing, Mac and cheese it s a must, cream corn was perfect, and the brisket was to die for! You must try this place, the only problem it s finding parking space but well worth it.
Wow wow wow 5 stars all the way. Got out of work late and wanted to grab some good bbq to bring home. Terry Blacks was recommended by a couple locals when I told them I wasnt really wanting to wait hours for good que. The pork ribs had run out by the time I got there, but I'm not even mad because the brisket was some of the best I've ever had. More of a savory than sweet flavor profile for the dry rub, my mouth is watering just thinking about it! Each of the three sauces they gave were flavorful and added to the experience, but its TOTALLY unnecessary. Both slices and burnt ends were incredible! Got the mac and cheese for a side and it was delicious as well, creamy and cheesy! Didnt get the beef rib but caught a glimpse when another customer ordered one and it looked awesome. Cafeteria style so the line moves pretty quick. Why wait hours, this place is amazing!
We visited Austin for 5 days and had a chance to visit many BBQ restaurant in this city. We think this is the best BBQ in town!!! We were so lucky that there was no line when we arrived. Pork ribs and turkey were amazing and tender! Highly recommend!
Absolutely love this place, i am not kidding when I say I haven t had this good bbq even after living in Texas for almost 8 years. I would recommend the brisket and sausages.
Straight to it: Their beef rib is fall-off-the-bone tender, but the fatty exterior is overly salty, and I say this as someone who often salts their cooked burgers, so be careful. Peach cobbler was fine. I think I had this cheese jalapeno sausage that was okay; obviously nothing memorable.
This was my first time eating at this restaurant. The waiting line was long but moving steadily. The rib was ok. The brisket was moist. The beef rib was just average, too expensive and a ripped off. The beef rib bone was quite big and we basically paid everything by the pound, so don't get the beef rib unless if you want to be ripped off. If you don't like salty food then this place is not for you.
Absolutely one of the best BBQ places! My friends and I waited almost an hour in line but in my opinion it totally worth it. Also, while you wait, you can buy a beer from a "beer window" with a wide selection of local beers. When you finally arrive to the counter to pick your dishes, there's a guy that help you choose your meats and ask for your preferences (like how fatty do you like your meat, what portions etc.). The smoked meats are amazing and full of taste. I liked the most the brisket and the beef rib.
