Deeeelicous, only had time to try three BBQ places on my trip and this one was by far the best! Pork ribs were so uniformly season and coated on every inch. Brisket was so soft, moist, and flavorful. This place also make their own hot sauce and BBQ sauce which were very sweet and savory.

Wow. Pink, juicy and delicious. I had the pork ribs and brisket, Cole slaw and beans. It was great. BBQ didn't need any sauce. The dry rub had a bit of sweetness to it, which some might not like, but the meat was so good, I didn't care.
Pricey, but worth it.

IF you love BBQ, be sure you make time to visit Terry Black's BBQ. Meats are purchased by weight, allowing the ability to create one's own "sampler" platter. When you enter the restaurant, go to the right, grab a tray and head to the "side bar." Select from delicious sides such as mac and cheese, green beans, slaw, etc. Move on to add a drink before approaching the slicing stations. Meat is sold by the pound, allowing the ability to create one's own "sampler" platter. My husband and I had the turkey, pork spare ribs, and brisket. Everything was DELICIOUS....if you're in Austin, you have to visit....you'll be glad you did!

Definitely worthy of the Blacks name. Good atmosphere, good location, and great food. The staff is always friendly, the lines are never ridiculously long, and the brisket is always plentiful.

Moist, fall off the bone delicious BBQ with a variety of absolutely delicious sauces to use! Further one of the wider selections off beer at any Austin restaurant to help add to the flavor extravaganza. At least on Sunday it looks like the low time to come is 230-3pm, otherwise expect a long wait in line.

I went down to Texas for a choir tour with the University of Notre Dame and someone told us to try this place. Now, as a member of a liturgical choir, let me tell you, we know spiritual experiences. This meal was one of them. I had brisket, ribs, mac and cheese, and baked beans. All superbly crafted. The mac and cheese was perfectly creamy, the brisket could be cut without a knife, and the ribs absolutely fell off the bone. A friend finished his peach cobler, sat back, and summed it all up: "I don't understand how anyone could be vegetarian."

Lives up to its reputation as a top 5 Austin BBQ place. Particularly liked the fatty brisket and jalapeno sausages. Disappointed that pork ribs were sold out on a Tuesday night. Just shows you how popular and great the food is!

To date, the best meal I've ever had

To date, the best meal I've ever had
Be prepared for an hour long wait for service (on a Friday night, arriving at 8pm).

They had run out of both beef and pork ribs by the time we arrived, so get in early for a shorter wait and access to the full menu. Our main fare was two pounds of brisket and a pound of jalapeno sausage; after a solid feed for two grown men we'd eaten roughly half of it all. Every bite was mouth watering... I cannot possibly overstate how delicious the brisket was...

No reservations are accepted, but they do have a significant amount of seating available including options for larger groups.

We had the mac'n'cheese, coleslaw and potato salad for sides and all were incredibly good.

There's a decent range of beers available, as well as cocktails and soda.

The line to order was out the door and into the sidewalk but it moved at a steady pace. I was welcomed with an option to purchase beer while in line and great service when ordering. The food was amazing, originally came for the brisket but the huge beef rib was the best, just melted in my mouth. I enjoyed the rice, potatoe salad and the brisket was worth the craze as well.

Seems expensive for Austin, beef rib was mediocre at best - mostly fat, and not in a nice marbled sort of way but just a cheap cut compared to another place I was at the night before. Other meat and sides were good however. Service so-so. I don t think the queue was justified.

The brisket talk about this place is everywhere. So I got that brisket and it does not disappoint! It was by far the best brisket I've ever had. The sausage and sides were delicious as well, but the brisket definitely steals the show. Aside from the food, the atmosphere is great, very much like a BBQ place. It is cafeteria style as far as ordering the food, but they cook the meat fresh and cut it right in front of you. Then you find your own seat. It does fill up quick so go early if you're hungry.

The place apparently is very well known for its BBQ. We pulled and immediately noticed a line. We were told that it would be a least a 30 minute wait until we were able to get inside. Once inside you had a choice of sides to go with your meal. Then what I noticed when it comes time to get the BBQ thd young lady slicing the meat I could tell it was very tender. But the food overall was very good. I would recommend this place to anyone wanted good and seasoned BBQ.

Love this place! Will be bummed when it gets too popular to make it there and back during my lunch breaks but it is a great spot. I actually try and go a bit healthy and get the turkey and green beans (oh the garlic!). Their cornbread, however, will undue this goal but be wholly worth it - combination of sweetness with the spicey jalapeno makes for an almost cake-like corn bread experience. So good. They have large outdoor patio as well so even when crowded, you can find a seat.

First time here as a visitor from the West Coast. Cafeteria style dining, pick your sides then your choice of meats in one third, one half three quarters, or full pound portions. My wife and I chose the brisket, turkey, jalapeno cheese sausage, and pork ribs. I'm a veteran smoker that smokes meat three to four times per week so I don't venture to places like Lucille's for average chain smoked meats. If I lived in Texas I'd probably only smoke meat twice a week and go here twice a week, it's THAT good!!! Coleslaw, potato salad, and green beans were all fantastic as well. Corn bread was a little dry, but adequate. All in all, highly recommended. Also, make sure to wash it down with a Big Red or three, the Cactus Cooler of the South.

Everyone's said everything that can be said about this place, judging by the sheer number of reviews! For a hungry tourist who waited in line for roughly 30mins or a bit more, it was WORTH the wait! Without doubt the best brisket I ever tasted. For a drink, 2 sides, I dessert and a little over a quarter brisket in weight, I paid $22.81. You can either have the brisket in a sandwich or on it's own (sold by weight). I'm glad my uber driver recommended this place!

Amazing BBQ, so consistently great! Dear Pecan Lodge - Dallas..I watch them cut my meat in front of my eyes!! Way better method to make my mouth salivate, better than Pecan Lodge tactic of cutting meat in back of house then yelling your name to come pick it up......So Annoying. Just look at that beautiful brisket..

Super excited to get some Texas BBQ.....
Sadly was met with a cafeteria style line with cold sides and bland meat. Barbeque sauce at the table was very boring as well. Sadly whole experience seemed very overpriced and underwhelming.

Went in to Black's on Barton Springs around 7pm. Small line outside. Longer inside. About 25 minutes+- from the time we stood in line to get our food and checkout.

Food is good , but not great.
Fresh green beans were under cooked.

For a few pounds of meat, two quart sides, two small sides, two small deserts almost $75-paying for Austin's overpopulation, proximity to downtown, and tourism.

Better value and comparable quality elsewhere in Austin.

One of the best Texas style BBQ places I ve had! The service here is very friendly and quick, and even though this place gets very busy, the line moves quick and you get your food in a timely manor. They also have the bar at the front entry where the line starts, which allows you to get your drinks while you re waiting in line. I d recommend the Black Margarita! Everything that I ordered was delicious! Especially the brisket, sausage, Mac n cheese and cornbread! Their BBQ sauce is also very delicious and goes well with anything. I will definitely be recommending this place to any BBQ lover and returning in the future!

Cafeteria style eatery. Was a line when we showed up but it moves quickly. Parking was a bit lacking because of how busy it was. Food was delicious. Pork ribs were fall off the bone tender. Sausage was good as well. For sides we got the mac & cheese and green beans. Both delicious as well. Meat is charged by weight and they slice it off right in front of you. Could definitely over order as everything looks so good! Two of us shared the attached photo and it was more than enough. We passed on dessert but that looked tasty as well!
