This was the first tea shop I experienced what tea could be like. There are others now in Portland, but I will always have a place in my teacup for this place. Thank you for being the start of my journey.

One of my favorite places to sit and chat with someone. The staff here are warm, friendly and helpful. It's usually extremely busy in here, but I never feel as though I'm being rushed out the door.

The tea is fantastic and there is quite a bit of variety. I love reading about where the teas come from, how they are made and some of the tea's history.

The atmosphere is pleasant and calming, although sometimes it feels like everyone's conversation gets louder and louder until there is a lull. Some fabric to deaden sound might help possibly.

I was torn about my rating.

I was torn about my rating.
The service in the cafe is pretty bad. It has been every time I have been there. I try to be understanding as I don't know what exactly the hold up is, but it's consistently difficult to get the server's attention, or you have to ask multiple times.

The tea is great, one of the best places to find tea in Portland. So I give it a high rating solely for the tea quality and selection, and that the place is beautiful. However, I would give the service a 2 or 3, because it's pretty consistently bad.

YUM

Nice little place, but so popular it was hard to find a table, even mid afternoon on a Wednesday. I think if they were smart they'd expand into more seating in their retail tea and teapot location a couple doors east. But we did get a table without a wait and the tea was good. I suggest they warm their cups though, the Brits definitely would frown on an ice cold tea cup.

This is a vegetarian tea House. The tea is excellent but the food is fairly average. I had the soda noodles and there wasn't anything that stood out about them. We also had the enchiladas and they were good. My wife has had the dumplings in the past and she thought they were great. The decor is interesting and well done. It was busy while we were there and fairly quite. Keep in mind that as the day goes on they will run out of some items. We were there 3 hours after they opened and two of the items were already gone for the day. My advise is to come for the tea but there is much better vegetarian food in Portland.

They put rocks and gravel in their "organic" Lavender and other expensive teas and herbs sold by the pound. I used their herbs in a frosting. 5 people cracked their teeth or choked on the rocks Tao of Tea puts in their herbs and teas. Every single chair at Tao of tea is more uncomfortable than the last. Tao is the worst place to sit for any amount of time. If you have mobility issues their tea house is unnavigable and impossible to dine at. If you want rocks in your tea, and herbs- go here.

I came here looking for my favorite tea ever, unfortunately the place that sold it was closed. But the food and drinks were great. I would come here again over and over everytime I'm downtown. I need to go back for that tea

I first learned about their teas through their retail distribution at Uwajimaya grocery store. Their teas are very high quality and are reasonably priced by the oz. I especially love the tins they sell, because they are super airtight with a double seal. I've used them again and again.

The tea shop is worth going in person. They have a locally-harvested wooden counter (a single cut from an old neighborhood tree), tea samples on the brew, and a relaxing, open atmosphere. Ask the attendant to have a whiff of anything they've got in stock. They also carry a small selection of supplies, like tea sets, which are also a very good price. Their stock is relatively small but changes frequently.

The restaurant serves vegan north-Indian dishes which are flavorful and healthy. The dishes come in small portions so you can sample and share. They also have themed tea samplers. Like their tea shop, the prices are very good. We had an excellent lunch there that was worth the wait!

This place is a calm escape from the city. From the lighting to the soft music to the staff it was impeccable. The tea was scrumptious and made fresh to order. The miso soup was awesome and a refreshing pick me up. Portions were reasonable, although the prices were a little steep. You pay for what you get, and the Tao of Tea was exactly what I needed.

This place is truly amazing! A great staff and the tea was excellent! I loved the service and the room was extremely comfortable and cozy! I would especially recommend this place on a cold winter day, the tao of tea will warm you up! Excellent place and tasty snacks too! Very relaxing and calm! I would give this more than 5 stars if I could! Bravo Tao of Tea, everything was superb, and I am very picky about my tea and foods. I went into the tea shop next door, and I was in love with the adorable and magnificent cups and teapots that they sell. The staff was very welcoming, and they explained each tea very well. The prices were also very reasonable! I bought so much tea, and it did not cost me that much! I strongly recommend this delightful place to everyone! Wonderful job!

I absolutely love the coffee here. I've only had lattes and the New Orleans style iced coffee, so far. I want to try everything they have on the menu though. The cookies are pretty tasty too, very soft and not overly sweet. A great way to jumpstart the day.

This tea place always hits the mark for me. There is no dearth of coffee places providing the right kind of ambience for coffee lovers. I have found this place to be just that for tea lovers. At last!

I have loved almost every tea I have tried here, but the 500 mile tea is my favorite since that comes closest to the Indian masala chai that I love. They give you choice of milk and sweetener- I go with whole milk and jaggery.

And for food again, there's nothing I haven't liked so far. You could have little snacky things (like samosa, spinach pakodas, roasted yam etc) or more filling food (like dal & rice, chana chaval etc). It all tastes great.

The place is a little small though, so the wait can be long. Seating, although going well with the overall ambience and decor, is not the most comfortable. I always look for one of those tables that have the more comfortable seating so I can enjoy my much-needed tea-time. Just bring good company and experience the bliss!

Yes, this is the famous Tao of Tea that sells their teas all over the world. This tea shop is where it all began. You can come for tea and food, or go into their shop next door to purchase teas and accessories to take home with you. If you go to drink tea, you can get it served in a traditional tea ceremony set. It's a very interesting place, and the prices for drinking tea are surprisingly affordable.

Loud ppl next to us, but the tea experience was awesome! Individual tea pots, freshly brewed. My chai was so gentle I just wanted to take it all home with me. And the baklava was amazing, not drenched in honey but still very sweet. The bread!!! That was so good, we wished we got 2 orders. Definitely a wonderful experience

Delicious teas and I highly recommend the brownie dessert!!! A+

There is only one thing I thought could use improvement, the Lebanese style pita bread had excessive herbs and spices... unfortunately that s why I made this review 4 stars.

That being said, EVERYTHING else was phenomenal! I highly recommend this place!

Great little spot for affordable eats and delicious tea! Cozy environment with knowledgeable staff. I had Tulsi Chai with almond milk - loved it! Friend had lavender and it was incredibly flavorful.

Unexpectedly popped in to check this tea house out and it was such a lovely experience. The atmosphere really helps you melt the outside world away and concentrate on enjoying your tea. The waitress was passionate about her job and seemed to enjoy serving others in this serene venue. Very cozy and unique decor. Best part of all the tea was delicious and they had a good variety of small meals/ tea breads/cookies. The lemon poppyseed bread was warmed and went nicely with the 500 mile chai. I would highly recommend this place to any friends and family who want to have an authentic tea house experience.

This Review is for the Tea Room with the Tea Wares and Tea for sale to the LEFT of the Tea Bar setup next door.

Nice staff. I picked up a Gaiwan, a "Yixing" clay teapot, two clay Tea cups and a cake of Pu Erh.

The Yixing clay pots are nice and at a decent intro level price, but be aware that they are glazed with a layer of Hiding Clay on the outside of more affordable/lower quality clays. This is evident in the lids and openings as glaze was not perfectly applied to most.

I wish they had a larger selection of medium to large tea cups, as the prints they had were not very interesting or low quality.

My favorite part of the experience was being poured a tasting of the organic Pu Erh that I took a cake home of along with some of the Sheng Pu Erh that I was also offered to try. Good customer service.

Just wish they had higher quality Yixing Clay pots and wares along with having a bit more knowledge about the clay wares and tea specifics I was asking about.

I only had a chai, but it was excellent. They offer various chai teas, with a variety of creamers and sweeteners to compliment it. Let's just say their menu offers much to choose from, whether it be teas or food to have along with. And the wait staff is very nice, helpful, available, but are happy to leave you alone to enjoy yourself while there.

Exquisite but simple food with a north Indian flair, succulent teas with options for rice, soy, or whole milk and Indian or traditional sugar. Organic zen atmosphere. This is one of my favorite places as the food is warming and filling without the bloating or digestive after bite.

For a zen, peaceful atmosphere and a wide selection of tea and savory dishes, this can't be beat. The interior decor feels like you've stepped into another, more beautiful planet, complete with trickling water features and happy Buddha's. Very affordable, for a high quality. A+

I came here because the ambience looked great in their online pictures, and it did not disappoint. It was very relaxing here and the food was surprisingly good. I got the tofu, soba noodles, dumplings, and moon cake, with a pot of Chai, all of which were very flavorful. It was actually almost surprising how tasty they were because my experience with soba and tofu has been that they tend to run on the bland side. Not here. Here they were fulfilling in a way I rarely find with vegetarian and vegan food. Would definitely be back when I'm in town again.

I had the Chinese bao, steaming hot, and the chana chaval, both lovely. Puer tuocha to drink, my friend got the 500 Mile Chai. I'm not vegan, but the vegan dishes here are so good I usually get them.

I love this place! Stumbled across it when we first moved to Portland and were exploring different neighborhoods. They have a wide selection of teas and are quite knowledgeable in helping make selections. I have tried about a dozen teas so far and have not been disappointed with any of them.

One of my favorite restaurants in Portland. There is a tea menu many pages long, and a wonderful menu of light meals and tea snacks from tea cultures around the world. Amazing vegetarian and vegan options. The tea is amazing.
