The place and the tea was absolutely remarkable. The server we have didn't greet us when we sat down for about 15 minutes, but besides that, she was INCREDIBLY rude to all other guests. She talked down to all those she served and was brash and disrespectful. If I wasn't there with a few new friends, I would've gotten up and left right then and there. Absolutely the worst waitress I've ever met. She knew her tea, but when my friend asked her how to brew her specific tea she wanted to try, she showed us, with finesse, but treated my friend lile she was an idiot when she was trying this new tea. If I see this waitress working, I will not come through.

Beautiful place, peaceful and quiet. Food is pretty expensive.

I love the teas sold here. The Jasmine pearl tea is my every morning tea. The shop has lovely little tea pots and cups and it's a very peaceful spot. The cafe is also really pleasant. I drop by every time I'm in Portland.

Had a meeting with a potential employer here and the atmosphere was great. Service was excellent and the food delightful. Tea variety was astounding and took up several pages of menu. Great descriptions and the tea not only tasted great, it was pretty to look at as well. Will definitely be back!

Great atmosphere, quiet, peaceful, great decor. The tea was excellent, and they had an enormous menu to choose from. They had many milk and non dairy choices for the tea. It was served in lovely handmade pieces. This place would be a great date.

My wife and I love the Tao of Tea. The Tao of Tea on Belmont is a tea house and a tea shop located in two separate store fronts right next to each other. Both are cool and worth visiting. My wife and I most enjoy the tea room, the teas are all good, during the winter I especially like the 500 mile chai. The food options are good but not great, everything is tasty but the portion sizes are pretty small for the price. The tea is clearly the focus here, and it is excellent. The stores are both beautiful and the tea house is very relaxing, I love the environment that they have created here.

Amazing! Tea was so delicious and super fun. They tea-ch you how to pour the teas gongfu style and giwan ceramonial styles. Tamales were amazing. Totally not expecting that. Only gripe I had was it was a much more busy (thus loud) place than expected. Will be coming back again...and again..

I ended up in the shop first and looked around before heading over to the main place to eat and have tea. Their hummus is to die for it is very fresh and seasoned perfectly. Their tea choices are very lovely and taste wonderful.

Really good tea and a very wide selection. I also really enjoyed the atmosphere. Only downside was we were seated next to the door and it was cold outside and people kept leaving the door open.
The food is an interesting selection, and it's really nice to be able to get a snack or even a small meal while enjoying your pot of tea. That's something I've really missed at other tea houses I've been to in pdx, where if I forget to eat first I end up not being able to enjoy my tea.
This place is really great and I plan to return.

Walk in and we sit down and are greeted with we close in ten minutes so... , so she made us leave. The shop was filled with people, didn t even offer us a to go order. Nothing. Were they going to make everyone leave at closing? I m all for people to leave work at reasonable times, but consider that if you won t serve us, someone else will (we ended up spending our money down the road).

I ve worked in restaurants and a coffee shop, if the door is opened, we still serves, albeit people understand that a grill is closed so they could only get coffee or salad or soup. Would never deny service 10min before closing. We will take our business elsewhere.

I fondly remember this shop opening up in my neighborhood back in the later 90s. Great memories of delicious. high quality teas, and the staff was very knowledgeable about what they were serving. Was so excited to see their packaged tea tins available in Amazon. So glad this lovely business has grown over the years.

A gem of a teahouse. The varieties of tea are quite pleasing, each served in the appropriate manner.

The Tao of Tea also offers tasty treats, including a little plate of sushi rice, pickled veggies, tofu, and nori wraps to make your own wraps. My favorite is a yam with cilantro and lime.

But perhaps the best thing about The Tao of Tea is the atmosphere- it is a lovely place to share an unhurried conversation, reflect on life, and relax.

The best place to bring a friend that you just want to chat with for hours over tea and snacks! I love their choices of high-quality seasonal teas; I've never been disappointed, and I'm always looking for an excuse to introduce this place to yet another friend.

My favorite place for drinking and buying tea in Portland so far. I wish they had another location (besides the one in the Chinese Garden) because it can get crowded and noisy some times, which kills the peaceful atmosphere.

Lovely, relaxing place for a light meal. There's a nice selection of Asian and Indian small plates.

I had a thoughtful and attentive server who brought me perfectly sweetened rubios chai with coconut milk and turbinado. I also enjoyed mildly spicy chana curry with basmati rice, with a moon cake for dessert. I'll be back.

Really cool place. A nice respite from the noisy bar scene just down the road and with the Thai restaurant tucked behind the trees across the street that part of the block reminded me a bit of being in SE Asia.
The tea was really delicious and the staff were very helpful and gave me free samples. Very welcoming environment.

Beautiful little room in which to drink tea. I enjoyed a chai latte while there, they had several choices of chai and many teas plus light vegetarian fare and tea snacks. Decorations and environment are peace-inducing. I look forward to going back.

The best team house in Portland. Great food from around the world to pair with an amazing selection of tea. The servers are so knowledgeable about the teas and traditional serving styles for each region.

Having not read any reviews, I was surprised to find that this was a sit down restaurant - I was expecting a coffeehouse vibe! The food service was fast (and delicious). we ordered the almond cookies and veggie potstickers with sauce and goji berries. There were only about 2 goji berries, but the sauce was delectable!

I was excited to use my chinook book coupon (thanks for participating!) and ordered the Snow dragon green tea and the Red Bush chai tea latte. Both teas: would order again!

I d like to try the leaf room sometime when it s open!

Favorite date spot. Quiet atmosphere, relaxed, perfect for conversation or quiet time together. Many people come alone but it's also a good spot for groups. The service is always wonderful but when it does get crowded expect that there will still only be one or two people taking care of everyone and the level of service won't go down, just the speed. When I first came here I didn't think I liked tea and then I realized how many options there are and how much better it is when made with care. Great selection for those who know what they are looking for and helpful staff for those who aren't sure yet.

Best. Tea. Ever. Plus they have delicious food and knowledgeable staff. It's all served in the most wonderful tea sets - I want to keep going just to see them all! Dimly lit and cozy in some areas, bright and open in others - you can choose your own ambience. Wheelchair friendly.

I loved every bit of my experience here. The staff was very friendly and walked us through the process. The tea was delicious.

This is a great place if you like tea for the taste and history instead of the trendy tea feel from some coffee shops.

Our waitress was knowledgeable and quick to offer skilled recommendations to help us sort through the incredible variety of teas on the menu. Their savory snacks are a delightful surprise. The price is absolutely right. This is probably my favorite tea house in Portland. I can't get enough!

I had no idea this place was a full service restaurant! I think it was like a cafe or something, but they came to our table like a waiter and helped us. It was a fun experience and the snacks they have on menu were delightful.

I'm not a big fan of drinking tea, but I enjoyed my 500-mile chai. More importantly, the decor and ambiance made for a delightful date. Even though the venue doesn't seat that many people, the room became pretty loud when full--to the point where I had to slide my chair right next to my date to be able to converse.

Service is very slow, but this is the kind of place where you shouldn't be in a rush. Tea here is a meditative/calming experience. Large selection of tea, and make sure to ask any questions you have before deciding, the staff are quite knowledgeable.
This place is frequently used as an internet dating meeting site because of its ambiance, so if you're looking to meet someone off a dating app, it's hard to find a better spot.
This also means that if you're by your lonesome, grab a seat and you can surreptitiously eavesdrop on the awkward couples meeting for the first time.

My yound children (4,6 and 14) and I went here for our first time, and let me tell you we had the best experience! The gentleman who was working was absolutely so kind, knowledgeable and patient. He educated us on the types of tea and tradional brewing processes all while serving me and my children tea! It was the best experience ever! His service far exceeded my expectations at beyond! They have so many types of tea ranging from China to India. Tea kettles, cups and more! They have so many teas, herbal teas and puerh teas available to purchase. I would highly recommend anyone to come enjoy the tea shop. They also have a restaurant and tea shop next door!

Beautiful store very much worthwhile to go inside and admire the aethetics of the place. Earthen colors; natural look, artsy and well lit. They mostly sell tea from Asia, very high quality I would note, but in addition to this, they sell a few types of tea from South America noteably the Yerba Mate and the smoked Mate, and they have an African herbal tea for sale too. So mostly teas grown in Asia, but not exclusively. The merchant was knowledgeable about the varietals. If you are looking for a tea cup or a teapot, consider viewing their selection.

It was very quit, calm and charming. My boyfriend and I went here together for the first time and our server was kind enough to show us how to prepare oolong tea traditionally. Awesome experience and the tea quality is amazing.
