Edward-Burne Jones exhibition is amazing tho
Magnificent paintings Good representation British painters.
Love this place, become a member and relax in a great Cafe.
Very interesting permanent Turner collection and the Edward Burne-Jones temporary exhibition is beautifully staged and truely worth a visit.
If you are a contemporary art learner, you should be able to graduate now. And the project of third grade elementary school children coming to the museum? The same thing made it difficult for the kids to scream and run around and concentrate on the work.
Great second tier must-visit. Focus on Bristish artists. Our guide's wry humor a high point.
Walk through British Art is brilliantly curated particularly 20th century.
Fantastic building and not as intense as Tate Modern - a lot quieter, gives you more of a chance to admire the art on display.
An awesome museum with stunning art! A must if you're in London.
Another very good art gallery with special exhibitions and a large permanent collection
Amazing art and beautiful building without the press of crowds. Lovely visit.
As usual no faults and enjoyed seeing Don McCullin exhibition
My hunger for the knowledge of British art was fed,but the food and drinks that i was sold in the cafe, left me feeling like I was mugged, to expensive.
There's always something there to entice me to exhibitions and galleries.. So inspiring and educative
Love this museum. Often overlooked, it has a great collection of works including various Henry Moore pieces. And an atmospheric building. Great cafe and shop on site too.
I had heard so much about this venue and finally managed to get to it (whist there were two enormous slugs draped over the entrance steps/front facade) in the Autumn. Underwhelmed is the politest word I can think of to describe the visit overall; we spent time viewing the exhibits, in the gift shop, and in the restaurant. My favourite activity was getting some photographs of the excellent spiral staircase.
Great free gallery, with a good collection including some great pre rafalite painting
Well, the best of British art and under appreciated
The Don Mccullin exhibition was haunting and powerful. Van Gogh's exhibition was also excellent. Went for Tate's lates and they had some great music.
wonderful.. excellent galleries..pictures hung imaginatively and thoughtfully.. present exhibition Burne Jones is a treat
Very enjoyable day browsing the art. If you can afford it treat your self to some tea and cake, they do get busy.
Don McCullin exhibition was good but the room was way to hot.
First visit - lived it! Came for the Van Gogh exhibition (not enough of his work for my liking), but stunning collection of Turners. The building is also fabulous. Will be back.
Went to see the really rather wonderful Hockney exhibition. It was great but completely marred by being overcrowded on a Saturday. It makes a mockery of having to book if it is still completely overcrowded when you get there.
The Van Gogh exhibition was beautiful. Added a thoughtful perspective to his work. It not only showed the work by him but also some that influenced his creativity. Loved it!
This place is fantastic because it has interesting images.
Really good place to check out with friends or family. The cafe is awesome too!
A lot of space to enjoy modern art for free, I'd recommend to go during the week to avoid weekend crowds
The permanent British 1580-1930 exhibit is brilliant. A visual history of this country. The member's cafe on the top floor is also to be recommended.
Great museum! Doesn t get full marks because the one painting I cared to see in all of London was out on loan, and I won t be back anytime soon to see it. I hope Ophelia makes her way to NYC soon. I did pay extra for William Blake, which I More
Tate Britain, know this place? .... Never heard of it :D
Museum quite small compared to London's other main museums. Half of the free exhibition is for modern art, not my cup of tea. Nice to spend an hour if it's raining outside.
Henry Moore's room is fascinating, since most of his sculptures are scattered around the world and it is a pleasure to watch several of his works at once, there are also paintings and drawings.
Definitely not as crowded as Tate Modern. The best art gallery in London if you would like to see 500 years of British art.
Adding something about this beautiful museum that hasn't been said yet is difficult. It is a beautiful space with the aim of showing the best of Britain art with numerous exhibitions ranging from classic collections to expo events of great interest. Naturally smaller than the sister Modern, it doesn't look bad at all. Small but interesting book shop and the inevitable good coffee restaurant for a break.
I have just been to see the wonderful "Edward Burne-Jones" exhibition which is on at Tate Britain until 24th February. It is a "must see"!
Really nice place to go if you appreciate paintings and portraits.
A nice museum with some national treasures and some rather weird art as well.
Don't miss this exhibition which apart from having rarely seen paintings and drawings for me provided a completely new context in which to understand Van Goghs art. It helped me to see and appreciate artwork like his shoes in a totally new light.
I don't know if I was lucky or Tate Britain managed visitor numbers but it was great to have the time and space to comfortably look at the art.
Thoroughly enjoyed the visit and came away better understanding Van Goghs art.
Late at Tate Britain - first Friday of the month. Generally a very good vibe
Didn't get a chance to see inside due to lockdown but outside was decorated with Brave New World Theme nicely
This museum is a gem. The wealth of British art is made available to all for free. It s simply amazing how many famous artists and works are here. Wonderfully curated and displayed, the collection is a pleasure to explore especially for anyone interested in the history of British art.
Nice place to acquire knowledge about British art. Worthy to visit !
Obviously fantastic gallery - nice that it isn't as crowded as the modern.
Enjoyed the late at the tate exhibit. First Friday of the month.
A fabulous museum... for free. You are able to waltz pass that which you don t like and get to what you do, with much less fatigue that other art galleries. In addition to the low price tag, complementary tours are included, which are hugely informative.
A must see on the London tourist map. In short - the history of British painting ... Particularly worth seeing are the works of the Pre-Raphaelites, Turner and Bacon. For short stays, I think it's better to choose this place than the more famous National Gallery.
It is a charming and very welcoming museum, the facade of the building is in a neoclassical style, its dome brings a lot of light to the interior of its entrance. It has different exhibition halls, it has different works, there you can find pre-Raphaelite paintings such as Ofelia or The Lady of Shalott , also an exhibition of sculptures by Henry Moore and contemporary art rooms. The staff is very friendly, they invite you to visit it giving you all the necessary information and it is free. On the ground floor there is a study room. It is fortunate to have this gem, highly recommended, a must.
One of my all time favourite art galleries anywhere in the world. This imposing and sublime building houses some of this country's most important works by its greatest artists and it's still free. Their temporary exhibitions have been outstanding in recent years so I'd advise becoming a member if art feeds your soul as it does mine.
Great place. Loved the exhibitions . Paintings were our favourite part. Really worth having a look
It was a really nice experience in the Tate Britain. The big and quiet Rooms were perfect to take a moment and look at the details of the Paintings.
Amazing building. Impressive collection. A full gallery of Turner's. We went on saturday and it wasn't too busy!
The Tate is usually good but the Blake exhibition is terrible. Poorly curated with a lack of detail and the central, supposedly contentious, claim that he may have been an activist is easily answered (he isn't). Triggering images of slavery and so much Christian iconography I was exhausted after room 3. The guardian may give it 5 stars. I give it one. Less songs of innocence and experience. More chants of the egregious and the dull.
One wouldn't guess how big it is from outside! Totally worth a visit to the exhibitions and the current Van Gogh
