Such a fantastic selection of plants! We went there for a venus fly trap and left with an assortment of new plants for our porch. Be careful! The staff were all friendly and willing to help with any questions I had, I am a newbie to gardening and they didn't mind helping me! They also have pamphlets and tips on everything at the help desk, and usually someone is there to assist you as well. I will definitly be going back soon!

Swanson Nursery is a gorgeous place. Huge selection of plants and planters, as well as decorative items. I was on the hunt for house plants and they had what I was looking for. Everything is laid out well and attractive. The staff I talked to were friendly and passionate. However, I gotta knock a star off for prices. Swanson Nursery is crazy expensive. I found the same house plants at the big box DIY for 1/3 the price. If you are willing to drive farther out to the other nurseries not in Seattle, those are also much cheaper. What you are paying here is the location and service.

The nursery was beautiful and had a large variety of plants. However, many of the smaller indoor plants in 2-4" nursery pots seemed to be overwatered and in slightly less than good/good condition. These smaller plants had leaves that were yellowing and wrinkled. This can be common in large-box stores, but I thought that for the higher price tag, the knowledgeable employees at Swansons would have cared a little more. Despite these first impressions, I found one of my wishlist plants, a monstera andansonii! It was on sale, but when I asked one of the employees about the discount, she said it was because it hadn't sold within a certain period of time and didn't look as good as the others, but that it was healthy. As a new plant mom, I took her word for it and took it home. Two weeks later, I look at the roots and see that the plant had some early signs of root rot. I repotted the plant in bigger pot and added some new soil. Two more weeks passed by and now I see fungus gnats. Lesson learned. Now I inspect both the leaves, soil, and the roots before purchasing any plants.

Mine was a poor customer service experience at Swanson s. I returned a small plant to Swanson s that I d received for Christmas but wanted to exchange. Although I had the gift receipt, the Swanson s cashier, supervisor, and store manager initially refused to give a refund but would give only in-store credit even though there was no suitable exchange plant and I did not want to hold an in-store credit to a very geographically-inconvenient store for me. I was told my refund request was elevated four levels from cashier to supervisor to manager to controller to the owner (on a Sunday morning?). All for a $44 return! The refund was finally approved.

Swansons Nursery is an excellent plant nursery wit...

Swansons Nursery is an excellent plant nursery with a huge variety of thousands of plants.

Unfortunately it isn't a great place for sellers. My experience started when I called the nursery and was told that I would get a call back from those who may be interested. No such call occurred.

As soon as I approached the owner to ask about selling there, he made a number of assumptions about me (such as a lack of a business license) that are pretty far from the truth, and I felt like the general vibe was of "it's a whole big process that you wouldn't know much about". In fact, I have a business license and have been selling sequioas online and in person for a while. He assumed I didn't have any licenses actually, and eventually concluded that he simply was "not interested at this time", which he could have said at the outset instead of coming across as passive aggressive by assuming a lack of experience which I eventually refuted in the conversation.

He assumed that sequoias weren't selling well which couldn't possibly have anything to do with the fact that his two sequoias are getting pretty old, sitting in large pots in the shade in a small corner of the store, pretty much hidden away and likely overpriced. With plenty of other conifers in stock, it seems unlikely to me that the largest tree on earth, fastest growing conifer that has national parks dedicated to it, as well as a relatively confined territory in California while being capable of growing other places - it seems unlikely to me that this tree simply isn't selling well based on demand alone.

So yeah, great place for customers, not very welcoming to prospective sellers.

The absolute best nursery and plant shop in Seattle. They have an impeccable selection of outdoor/indoor plants and gifts, plus a nice cafe. Good pricing compared to other local shops, and they really take care of their plants so you know you're buying something healthy. The staff is always helpful with questions about plant care. Sign up for their newsletter to learn about events, sales, etc.

Knowledgeable, helpful staff, & a good selection of high quality plants. Your purchases in the spring earn Swanson's bucks which you can spend on purchases made during July or during the holiday season.

Swanson's is amazing. So many levels here. Coffee shop, awesome home section, obviously the plants are magical - everything from apple trees that will grow on your deck to cacti for your studio apartment - just everything about this place is happy. I can spend an entire afternoon here. With my dog.

Shopped at Swanson's many times - this place is the real deal. While you may find cheaper places to buy house plants, in my experience, the plants from Swanson's tend to do so much better and live longer. They have an excellent selection and very helpful staff. Can't recommend this place enough.

Swansons nursery is a beautiful, plentiful nursery with knowledgeable and friendly staff. I purchased the must have fiddle leaf fig tree and so far so good. It's my first house plant which made me a bit nervous (fiddle leaf fig trees are not cheap!) but I was reassured by the fact that if I feel it's not working out (i.e. I'm killing it) I can bring it back. Thanks Swansons for a great experience!

Unfortunately I assumed that since I was paying a premium for a new rose that it slipped my mind to inspect it closely, but after having for a couple weeks it s clear that it was thoroughly infected with rose mosaic virus. I paid cash and don t have a receipt, but I would suggest trying somewhere else that s not charging $45 for infected stock. The supplier is Weeks.

was back again for the month of May from Ireland. A daily call into Swansons was a must. We visited the Koi Fish first and then a visit to the chickens. Wonderful fun for my grandson Aidan. He lives on Mary Ave. I bought more plants for my daughter's garden and got great fun in planning where to place them. I hope my son-in-law did not mind as I seemed to take over the garden. They have such scope and their garden is beautiful. Was glad to see the cafe was open but disappointed it did not have the same food on offer as before. Still it was nice to sit down and have a coffee and cake. Hope to see you all next time. The staff are just as nice and helpful as ever.

Not the best prices but yes on the best selection for plants for the garden. But that s not why I live Swanson s. It s their Christmas display with rain deer, photo ops, and a train display on a different theme each year- with characters from past years hiding here and there.

Love this nursery! Luscious, healthy plants that always do well for me. Five-star customer service. They pot my plants of choice in my window box for a nominal potting fee and are happy to assist when I need expert advice.
Exceptional gift shop and potting containers.

Sam helped me pick out the perfect Atlas Cedars for my small city backyard. He spent time listening to exactly what I needed and showed me several options. It was such a fun process for me!They fit in perfectly with all the other plants that I have purchased from Swansons .
Jeff delivered the trees on time and put them exactly where I needed. He was gracious and kind. They were heavy for me but it wasn't a problem for him!
Swansons always hires the best people and put customer service first. Beautiful plants and people, what a great combination!!

This place is so much bigger than I anticipated! They have everything you could want and more and the employees are super friendly and helpful. The place is clean and they're doing a great job with social distancing. Make an appointment to make sure you can go when you want. They do take some walk-ins, but only as space allows. Didn't have the chance to try anything from the bakery, but the coffee smelled delicious. Will update when I return.

I'll admit I was nervous when I had only one choice each of compost and bark mulch, and had to order it at the register without examining the bags first. But the product was absolutely amazing. Given my limited experience with bark, I thought I had enough to do the area in front of my fence and a swath along the walkway. Turns out I bought enough bark to do the whole yard, because it has five times the coverage of the last stuff I tried. Both bark and compost are fine textured, rich, and smell great.

The plants I chose are as gorgeous and fresh today, after delivery and waiting four days for my day off to be transplanted, as they were in the store. If they don't flourish it will be only my inexperienced hamhandedness at fault!

Finally, the service I received excellent, from the employees who helped me choose plants, the cashier, and especially the delivery coordinator.

I have never taken the time to write a review for any business before (either too lazy or too tech-phobic), and this was a doozy. So you can tell how happy I am.

Love Swanson's. Great selection. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Grounds are well kept. Very neighborly vibe. Coffee shop, and bakery items. The clearance items are good to check out in addition to what you came in for -- it's rare I don't pick up a clearance item.

For COVID-19, they have implemented a shop by reservation system which works very well. Every single customer I observed was wearing a mask, and was very observant of distance to others -- as opposed to the big box places like Lowe's an Home Depot.

I am here to warn citizens of a truth some may not...

I am here to warn citizens of a truth some may not be ready for. A recent review of Swanson's by Antonio Maruccetti detailed the grueling process of becoming a citizen of the esteemed, pristine Swanson's Christmas Village. This is accurate. When I moved to Seattle in the mid 90's, I had no home. As a well-known (even famous in the west) elfin Prince, I knew that it would be difficult to find a neighborhood I truly "fit in" in. In my old neighborhood, children often mocked me, kicked me, poisoned me, beat me... often, attempts on my life were made. This is the price of fame. I heard about the Christmas Village in late October '98, and immediately put in my application to become a full time citizen. As an elf, I assumed I would be a sure fit. I speak Santeese fluently, attend ceremonies weekly, already am well-versed in all of our religion's readings, most notably the Most Famous Pagan Holiday's New Fake Traditionally Christian Teachings... I thought I was an easy candidate. I brushed up and took the citizenship test a month after turning my application in and was denied due to not having a perfect score, and asked to re-test next year. I kid you not, they wanted every question on this 409 point short answer essay exactly correct. Rough! I lived on the streets for another year following this blatant failure, often subjected to the same harsh treatment I was forced to endure in my old neighborhood. I lost my right foot and chipped many teeth in this year. Hopeful for a brighter future, I studied our scriptures daily until it was time for me to take the test again. I did, and was accepted into The Christmas Village. Since then, my life has been what you might call "perfect sensual bliss"... truly! Plants and crystals and love surround me, as well as herbs. I love it here, now. I give this village a 3 star rating because the test should not require a perfect score. That is all!

This is a great place to get plants, and there are currently a lot of Christmas trees for sale right now. You can purchase indoor plants and outdoor plants, and the prices and selection are really good. They do have a reservation system online, so you reserve a time to shop on their website and scan in when you get there. It keeps the store less crowded and it's easy to socially distance there.

Update: One year later, my lemon tree, that had never fruited with its previous parent, has 9 lemons and 30 new flowers! Thank you Swansons for giving my Meyer all the TLC it needed to reach its full fruity potential! Happy New Year!

Original review: Swansons has the most amazing nursery staff. Case in point: Pulled in at 9:20 with a dwarf potted lemon tree (gifted to me by an elderly neighbor) in my SUV's back hatch. Stone greeted me as I was walking in, and radioed for "customer help". 25 seconds later, Travis is taking a detailed interest and hands-on look at my tree/shrub in the parking lot (in snow flurries). Travis confirmed my best guesses and directed me to some great care options for the tree. Two minutes inside and $15 of great citrus/fruit tree food and just enough potting soil, Colleen reminded me about spending my Swansons dollars (earn them before November, spend them through December) and about bulbs for indoor forced flowering (cashiers like her guarantee customer loyalty). Just like that, I am off to care for my new flora with a happy heart and an expert plan.
Such friendly, caring, knowledgeable and courteous staff are why Swansons gets 5 stars everytime!

This place is huge and though you might end up paying more for plants here than you would at a place like Home Depot, you can t beat the experience and the level of service.

Big shout out to Elizabeth. She was the only person to ask us if we needed help and when we asked questions she was a great resource. Please give her a raise!

It s fun to look around at the exotic plants. They have such an interesting wide variety of plants. Where else can you get a yuzu tree?

Got to watch the koi feeding time, as seen in the video.

Seanson s gets a five star rating from me for a few reasons. I ve been coming here since I was a kid and remember it before the awesome remodel. It is always a place I remember fondly and I continue to come here as an adult. The indoor houseplant staff are especially helpful and today I picked up a plant they had set aside for me that I requested back in the summer. They will gladly drill holes in pots for free and are just generally helpful and kind. The bakery staff today unfortunately was very unpleasant. A young girl was counting the cash in the cash register and we waited for several minutes to be acknowledged after knowing she saw us. After waiting several minutes I asked her if she was closed to which she replied, no, just busy and then continued counting for a bit longer before walking over to the pastry case and just looked at us. No greeting, just blatantly rudeness. After I bought the pastry she just handed us our change. After enduring her rudeness we still thanked her, and she just turned wordlessly and walked away. I am still standing in the store writing this review because she left such a bad impression. Treating a loyal customer that way is unacceptable and disappointing for a place that I have loved for so long. All other Swanson s staff have always gone out of their way to be helpful and kind and so her actions, and lack thereof, caught my husband and I off guard. I know it is just one person who behaved in this way, but it could be a reason why I don t frequent their cafe again which is a shame because the food is great and the atmosphere is even better.

The giant fish are worth the trip. This place is beautiful and priced accordingly. Definitely the perfect place to wander around with dreams of transforming your garden. A pet peeve of mine is that they seem to feature lush clusters of the same plants in five+ different places instead of keeping them together. I ran into displays for the same rose over and over again.
