The nursery was beautiful and had a large variety of plants. However, many of the smaller indoor plants in 2-4" nursery pots seemed to be overwatered and in slightly less than good/good condition. These smaller plants had leaves that were yellowing and wrinkled. This can be common in large-box stores, but I thought that for the higher price tag, the knowledgeable employees at Swansons would have cared a little more. Despite these first impressions, I found one of my wishlist plants, a monstera andansonii! It was on sale, but when I asked one of the employees about the discount, she said it was because it hadn't sold within a certain period of time and didn't look as good as the others, but that it was healthy. As a new plant mom, I took her word for it and took it home. Two weeks later, I look at the roots and see that the plant had some early signs of root rot. I repotted the plant in bigger pot and added some new soil. Two more weeks passed by and now I see fungus gnats. Lesson learned. Now I inspect both the leaves, soil, and the roots before purchasing any plants.
