I have LOVED being a member at Sun Studio in Marina del Rey. Staff is always friendly, knowledgable, and update you when you have free services or free upgrades. They are always personable and get to know you by name, even when you're not necessarily a regular :)

Salon is very clean with nice beds and plenty of bed options for regular tanning and sunless tanning. Love this salon. Would highly recommend a membership here!!

I have been going to Sun Studio for nearly two yea...

I have been going to Sun Studio for nearly two years and have been a loyal customer coming in about once a week for a spray tan. It s always been a quick in and out experience and have loved my results. Once the pandemic hit I was unfortunately hit with pay cuts. I put a hold on service memberships (lashes, spray tan) through my bank so that I wouldn t get autodrafted during this closed period of time as I could not financially afford to be hit with charges that were forgotten to be turned off or skipped (I ve had a lot of double charges and duplicated auto drafts that are a nightmare to get refunded on in the past not here but it s made me more weary). I received a text in July asking for payment, I was unaware they were open so I text asking if they are. I am then told that they were open in June, part of July but have had to close again on July 15th. Kevin, the manager in this scenario proceeds to tell me he will waive the 15 days in July but I have to pay for June. I am very upset by this as I ve received no emails or notifications of the reopening. He then tells me that they ve posted numerous times on Facebook, Instagram, and sent 4 emails. I do not follow them on social media, but I did check my email and not a single message from them. I told him I would pay a prorated amount for the days they were open in July but it was unfair to ask me to pay for June when I was never made aware of the reopening. He then says waiving the month on July, even though they were only open 15 days, was the best he could do. I asked him to send me proof that all of these emails were sent to me, if they had I would pay for the month of June. He then sends me an email with all the promotional emails attached but NO PROOF that they had ever been sent to me prior! I ve now started receiving emails from them daily so clearly my correct email address was never on file. We could not come to an agreement so I asked my membership be canceled IMMEDIATELY! He then proceeds to tell me he is sending me to collections....over $84!! I am so furious but went ahead and paid it as I m tired of dealing with this mess. I ve also asked to speak on the phone several times and asked the salon to have him call me, but he s refrained. I m sad to end a membership with a place I loved but I will not support a business that doesn t appreciate and work with their customers. I understand they ve been hit with financial loss, but we all have and as a business owner you have a lot more to lose when you are greedy and don t value your customer relationships.

Ive been to many tanning salons before and I have to say after visiting this one I would never go anywhere else. The girls behind the front desk are always so helpful in answering questions and explaining how everything works. They always greet you with a smile and get you in and out as fast as I'm sure is possible, which is great for anyone who doesn't have a lot of time to spare like myself. The machines are always very clean and everything you need is provided besides the lotion(which they actually give away free in certain packages ). I absolutely love this place!

i love this place, it's my go to tanning spot in la, no other one like it. they used to have a west la location but it closed. their prices can't be beat, their beds are great, the staff is (usually) great, and the location is convenient. parking can be a bit tough though.

Went once and will never go back. The girl working was rude and appeared to be understaffed. The phone was ringing the whole time as she tried to explain how the beds worked. She kept running back and forth from the bed to the phone in an attempt to run the place by herself, which made me late for my next appointment. I used their level 5 bed but it didn't tan me at all. I looked exactly the same afterwards. The beds were outdated and the bulbs must not have been changed in a long time. I would not recommend going to this salon. I personally did not have a positive experience.

The people that like this place obviously haven't been anywhere else. It's a joke. First time in I wanted to try it to see how the beds/bulbs were. It's $30 for a single session and that's their bottom level bed. I noticed that level had a monthly membership for $39.99. I figured $10 more for a month would be worth it even if I only came back once. I couldn't buy it though because it was February 2 and they only sell memberships on the 1st apparently. The only option they gave was to buy the prorated membership for the "rest" of the month (the whole month minus 1 day) and pay the $28 sign up fee. Hilarious. Just imagine : "How much for a sandwich?" "Well the sandwich is $8 but first you have to pay me $5 to be able to buy it". It gets better. I asked if I could cancel my membership after the 1 month and they said yes but I would still be charged for the next month. Seriously. They said I could cancel it but I'd still get charged. I asked why and they said because their memberships are for 30 days and since I wasn't buying the whole month of February (remember I came in on the 2nd) it would carry over to March. Being a 30 membership and all. But I thought it was prorated? Yes but you have to buy at least 1 full month before you can cancel. How about I pay for the whole month of February and I simply don't complain about the 1 day I'm missing out on? Nope. That makes too much sense. It's so confusing the girls don't even understand it and you can tell by their attitude that they go through this a lot. They only want people to walk in and buy an expensive membership so they can have you trapped. Anyone else is simply a pain in their butt. Keep in mind I'm talking about simply getting a tan. If my first visit was this complicated and frustrating I can only imagine how much worse it would be if I actually got locked in with them by giving my card number. It's probably impossible to cancel the membership once you sign up. I bet you can only cancel on the exact same day of the month during the exact same hour you signed up and it has to be with the exact same employee that signed you up. Needless to say, I left. Google took me to a place a few blocks away called Total Tan. So glad. First timers get half off for their first week! I tried the Gold lay down which is normally only $20 for a single visit. First time it was only $11 and a really nice bed. Really nice. I can't wait to see how the next level bed is - at half price. To the girls at Sun Studio thanks for being the way you were. It forced me to find a much better place. Sorry to interrupt both of you while you were eating. I see now why you place was empty and the other place was busy. ****Updating after seeing the response**** Not a single thing I said was false. That's exactly how the 2 employees explained it to me. The owner/manager should have been more concerned with his employees doing a bad job. But instead he accused me of being in with the competition. If that was true I wouldn't have wasted my time going in to his place. I would've just said I went in and left the bad review. I have much better things to do than leave a fake review for a tanning place. If anyone thinks I'm wrong then simply go to both places I mentioned and compare for yourself.

I signed up for a membership here when I needed some color prior to a vacation... it's a great value compared to other studios in the area. Check in process was easy, beds were clean and I rarely had to wait. Staff was also nice and very helpful when I had to cancel my membership due to COVID. Never tried their airbrush tanning or infrared options but love that they have these options. Would recommend!

I've been getting tans for 10+ years now, and I can honestly say Sun Studio LA is the best place I've found all throughout Venice/MDR/Santa Monica. The tans are second to none, the staff is alway super friendly, and the packages are really good deals. I purchase multiple tans at once, which drives the cost down a lot considering the quality. I've been going to Sun Studio LA for over 2 years now and recommend it highly.
