Awesome place to go for concerts and the BBQ isn't bad either! Worth checking out if you're wanting some BBQ in downtown Austin!

BBQ is subpar at best, and the service was awful. Add that they charge 7 bucks for a negra modelo, no thanks.
We ve always had good service at Stubbs. We went there Saturday night and had a terrible experience. We sat in the bar area and weren t waited on. My husband went to try and order drinks at the bar. The bartender told him to sit down and someone would wait on us. A few minutes later a waiter came to our table and we tried to order drinks. She told us we d have to order the drinks at the bar. The bartender started yelling something to her. It was a big mess so we just left and went to another restaurant where we had a great experience.
Great deal on the all you can eat BBQ, but the sauce is better at the store out of a jar!
I've gone to Stubb's multiple times and the music has been awesome. The service, however, is seriously the worst I've ever experienced. I haven't had issues with the bartenders - they've been pretty great - just the bouncers. Every time I went. These people were just blatantly rude. And I'm not talking about one - I've had unfortunate encounters with at least four people. One rudely asked us if we "knew how to do math" and spoke to us like we were idiots when we were trying to give her our passes for SXSW and had misplaced one. Another wouldn't let people in to use the restrooms, even when my friend was having issues with her contact and was in pain. When we told him this he told us to go use a Porta Potty (in the dark with no mirrors) and said that people weren't allowed in because it was a fire hazard (there were honestly only ten people inside, and he let guests with wristbands into the building to go upstairs - how does that make sense if it's a fire hazard?). I've been yelled at, I've been treated like an idiot, and I've been insulted. As much as I like the music, I'm not going back unless they actually hire someone with people skills.
The ribs weren't as good as expected. A lot of fat on them. Sorry!
There's bbq and then there's Texas bar-b-q. Stubb's is some good Texas style bar-b-q.
Real good bar-b-q is an entire experience...from the meat to the sides to the desert to the ambience, with superb service to lasso it all together. Stubb's doesn't miss and let's it all speak for itself without being too big, over-the-top or trying to hard. Brisket, sausage (house recipe), melt-in-your-mouth onion rings and creamy mac & cheese are my go to's, but you won't go wrong with any choice.
Top it off with the hickory bourbon apple cobbler a-la-mode and you'll have then experienced REAL GOOD Texas bar-b-q.
Great Texas Bbq. Smoked brisket and chopped beef was a hit.
My family and myself recently went recently to this restaurant. I can say from first walking in the door we fell in love!!! The atmosphere, food and staff was wonderful. This is one you must go to and by the way the FOOD was wonderful!!!
Great venue for concerts! I didnt get a chance to eat here, but it was very chill.
Some of the worst bbq I have ever eaten. The brisket was tough and chewy, at least where there was meat. The rest was fat. Since there are so many good reviews about this place I presume the problem may have been that I was there mid afternoon for a late lunch/early dinner, so the meat may have sat on the grill too long. Whatever the reason, a very bad experience. The only reason this did not get a one star is the sides were good.
If you are in Austin, and you feel like grilled, you should not miss it. Prices are ok, nice service and a mad food!
Great food. I highly recommend the beef ribs! Warning: they are huge but completely worth it.
Hit or miss depending on when you go (or which cow the beef came from). I've been here when the brisket was great. Other times it was dry and not so good. The serrano cheese spinach was so good I learned to make that at home and it's a favorite. Around 2015, the portions shrank though - which was disappointing. Cool atmosphere though - and great for convenience when attending a music event.
Great BBQ. Ask the water for extra BBQ sauce flavors.
Meat was all dry and starters were overcooked. Not at all my idea of Texas BBQ. Sides were bland.
When we entered the door we were rejected a table because two people came two minutes late and they refused to serve us. Then they rudely suggest we wait 20 min for another table even though we already had one. The hostess also was rude to the kids.and said "they shouldn't be seated because they don't spend enough money"
Pretty good venue booking good shows. Sound could be better. Good outdoor atmosphere.
2 of us showed up after an interesting Lyft ride that ended up taking 15 minutes instead of 3, and walked in the door 5 minutes before close. The hostess let us know that they were only doing takeout at this point, which really bummed us out. However, while we were looking through the menu a very kind server named Luis said it would be no problem to sit us down. The service and food was so amazing and I'm so grateful to have gotten the experience of Stubb's after a long day. Luis is an awesome server and is very passionate about his work. We were so lucky to have gotten in to eat. Awesome service, I wish I could give it 6 stars! Thank you Stubb's!
Good place to go for solid Memphis style pork BBQ, they did have traditional Texas style as well. Really loved the atmosphere, but the price was a bit steep
Love the feel of it, menu is simple and meat is delicious.
Saw kurt vile last weekend and the sound was amazing
Stubbs is a great place to eat BBQ. It isn't the best BBQ in Austin but definitely worth stopping by this historic place.
very cool austin place. Im not totally in love with the food, but they have a kick butt gospel brunch on sundays.
The food's ok. Not the best BBQ in town, but it's decent, especially if you're going there anyway for a show.
Meh. It's a place to eat. The food was basic. Wouldn't go back here unless there was nothing else available. Their menu didn't have a lot of variety to it.
The food served here is what you would typically think of when you think BBQ. The price was a bit high considering how much you get. If you're looking for an original BBQ experience, this would not be your restaurant.
Stubbs BBQ is a must if you are in the Austin Texas area.
Very friendly restaurant with that amazing southern hospitality that Texas is known for..
Stubbs offer live musical entertainment, to accompany the amazing service.
The food is great and you might leave a mess covrred in BBQ sauce, but i would recommend chasing it down with som of there wonderful desserts..
There are also multiple live music venue within a short walking distance..
Worst service I've ever had. Took forever for food, forever for refills, & forever for check. 2+ hours to eat on a table for 4 on a slow night. Place wasn't even that busy. BBQ sauce was good, but nothing to talk about. Most overrated place I've been to in 15 years. Big let down.
Recently went to a concert for Parker McCollum I was very nervous to go because i was 39 weeks pregnant (yes crazy) but I figured if I stood away from the crowd I ll be fine
As I was going to enter a Stubb s employee asked me if I was expecting (how nice she didn t assume lol) when I told her yes she immediately took me and my friend to the VIP area away from the crowd and said she ll upgrade us for free because that way I was more safe.
Throughout my whole pregnancy I attended concerts but her genuine concern and care for a stranger really stood out to me!
Thank you Stubb s!
It was fine but there's probably better BBQ in the city. Vibe is fun though!
I went to the Fits and the Tantrums concert here. It was memorable! "I can make your hand clap"
purchased stubbs frozen bbq shred beef & chicken. So gross!
Fun place with great food, great music, and great beer
Good BBQ. Among the best I've tasted, although brisket could use a lil' more kick. Great atmosphere/decor although I wonder why the hell we left a tip when we pd before hand just to have an employee tell us we had to get our own refills.
food was pretty good. have always been a fan of Stubb's bbq sauce so coming here we had a higher expectation of the actual meat taste because it's Stubb's, but overall our lunch was still good. the SERRANO CHEESE SPINACH side is a must try, that was our favorite!
Sunday BBQ brunch and gospel music. One of the must do events in Austin
When in Downtown Austin, Eat at Stubbs! Your other choices are dive bars or overpriced Atomosphere. Stay for the music and enjoy. Yes, there Barbecue is that good.
Really nice bbq, very authentic and nice decoration. The atmosphere is really Texas style. I love this bbq.
Whoo. Went with a big party and had the all you can eat. It was fantastic but expect to walk out with a food baby. Really loved it.
The best meal we had in Austin! The brisket and sides are awesome!
Very bland. Way overpriced. Not what I expected. Bill Miller is better and much less expensive
Loved the venue but hated the pretentious entitled Austin crowd. People acting like they reserved their spots in general admision
Live music is my thang and so is there bbq. My favorite is there sauce. I ve attended over 15 concerts at Stubbs, mostly outdoor, can t wait until my next experience there.
BBQ is fair to good, other food is ok. BBQ sauce had a strange after taste. Note that if you are coming to see a band, they have 2 stages, one indoor in a very small area. One stage is outside with limited visibility.
Our server was very attentive. My pulled pork sandwich was average. The meat was fatty and portion of meat smaller than expected. The onion rings and sweet potato fries were plentiful and crispy.
This was my first time visiting Stubb's. I came for a concert. Even though it was raining I still had a great time. Great venue! I had great view of the stage and I never had to wait in a long line to get food or drinks. Also the brisket was delicious. I'll definitely be returning.
Overall good experience! Didnt get bbq sauce for my sandwich though.
Stubb's was decent. It's definitely a joint for tourists and not so much for the locals. I would probably choose a different spot for BBQ next time I'm in town.
This is an amazing place for BBQ, concerts. Also, unlike most mid sized venues, this place doesn't charge 3 times the price of beer during a show. There may be a wait, but it's worth it!
Wouldn't recommend to my friends if they asked for a good bbq place. We ordered the stuffed jalapenos and they were raw jalapenos understuffed with cream cheese, the drinks were not carbonated (easy fix though). My wife got the chopped bbq sandwich with potatoe salad, I got the sliced brisket sandwich with coleslaw.
Her sandwich was bland and mine was dry, the coleslaw was decent and the potatoe salad was underwhelming.
The banana pudding was tasteful, however the cookies are supposed to be soft, it's almost like they have pudding in the fridge and throw some bananas and cookies in the bowl when the order gets placed.
The server was subpar as we waited for a long time for our refill drinks (the 1st round was nasty tasting) and then had to wait 10 minutes for our bill due to a large table.
Good barbecue heralds a para-religious experience because the meat endures a stint in a hot and smoky pit then gets carried in to me steaming upon a platter. The brisket lies freshly sacrificed in a heap on my tray, sliced, the juicy meat steaming, and its edges, like the casing of the sausage or the carnivorously alluring flesh of ribs, seared and sealed with sauce. This is the sacrament of an ancient religion filled with secret arcana, the myriad details of how to build a smoky fire from hickory or some other native wood conveying its Texas terroir and how to prepare the meat for cooking. Finally these choice morsels of beeves, swines, and fowls are left alone for a night in purgatory before swiftly pulling them off the grill over hot glowing fractals of mesquite, slicing them onto a plate, and delivering them to a hungry accolyte before the meat has had time to cool for more than a few degrees.
A cooling of more than a few degrees has chilled this review from five stars to three. I eat at Stubb's Bar-B-Q at least once a year, and last year they delivered barbecue perfect in timing, temperature, and flavor, with seemingly only seconds between grill and table. For the record, I am no foodie pilgrim I do not travel the world in search of perfection in every genre of cooking, and those finer points of appreciation that let glossy magazine reviewers distinguish among the fine points of slow-cooked, grilled meat so that they can point to some fly-speck on their maps and say, "Here, in this pueblito, is the joint with the best barbecue in Texas." No, I am no Prince of Ham and Beef, nor was meant to be. Deliver me a good plate, and my meter is pegged five stars for you, you, and you. Had I written this review after last year's meal at Stubb's, I would have given them five stars too.
This year, however, the meat was tepid, and if good barbecue comes off the grill filled with a holy spirit, this year's three-meat plate of brisket, ribs, and sausage had given up the ghost. The plate had apparently sat for a while: the meat had not only cooled, but the whole experience of the food on the palate had changed. It still was a long way from being that day-after mess with the fat in congealed white puddles beneath the meat you know what I mean if you've ever barbecued enough to have leftovers but, on the other hand, my lunch had taken the first big step in that direction.
My first time into Stubbs I was unsure what to order because I did not want to pay $12 or $14 for a plate of food that I was unsure about PLUS did not want 2 side dishes. Therefore, I ordered 1/4 pound of brisket $3.25 and a side order of sweet potato fries about $3 and a jalapeno cornbread .75 .. Well the brisket was delicious and tender and I did not a knife to cut the meat. The sweet potato fries were good and the jalapeno cornbread was super yummi. NEXT TIME 1/2 pound brisket and same. .... Stubbs has a live music Gospel Sunday Brunch (buffet) that is well worth the money and treat for once a month or semi yearly.
I loved it it was a really cool little venue you were able to get a good view of the stage the whole setup was very nice it was really enjoyable I had a very good time the staff that work there was very helpful and nice. This is a great place to see shows it's small and kind of personal and it was a lot of fun
Love Stubb's so much I wanted to review as I am eating the smoked turkey. Our server is great and the BBQ sauces are awesome! Our cups have been full since we got here and you can tell everyone here is having a great time!
Good food. Nice atmosphere. Food was plentiful. No line and helpful staff. Will definitely go again
Wasn't impressed with the bbq....atmosphere was good though maybe would have been better if not in the midst of a quarantine
Excellent BBQ if looking for good food and atmosphere. Been there every time i come to Austin.
Great food. Awesome Venue. I wish I could get the sauce in a bottle. It's really really good.
Fantastic Sunday Brunch with some great music for the soul! Loved all of the meats and some great sides! My group and i would have loved maybe a few more "cold"/fruit/veggie options, but everything that WAS there, was great!
The barbeque is decent but not as good as Salt Lick or Rudy's. It's probably fun when there are bands.
Worth the price. I got the 3 meat combo and it was quite a bit of food so I'm taking some home for dinner. Service was average
Fast service and absolutely amazing barbecue. Highly recommend
Excellent food and great atmosphere. Id heard service was suspect, but had no issues.
Saw Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats last Thursday... Unbelievable venue; brisket tacos, Lonestar tall boys, and rock n' roll!
Definitely recommend getting a seat with a view of the band. If you don't you will miss out. Really good brunch.
It was a neat place inside. I liked that they had a sides plate for vegetarians. The mac and cheese could use some work, but we had a nice meal.
I have now had 3 terrible run in's with Stubb's in the past 3 months. Their acoustics are shameful, the sound man is amateur, and the staff is just plain rude. Their door staff basically adopts the attitude of a LA Club Bouncer or speed trap traffic cop.
A good chunk of people come to Stubb's to be seen rather than actually watch the show and will be holding drunken conversations in front of you the whole show. This is normal.
This place is an example of how success can get to your head. Go out and support Austin. Go to our real local venues, and let the out-of-towner's have Stubb's.
