Straz Center for the Performing Arts Reviews

If you are a local or just visiting Tampa in search for a weekend plan this is definitely one of Tampa's hot spots , it is our own "Opera House", this venue has been visited by world renowned shows and broadway casts, musicians etc. I will say other than its location overlooking the Dowtown bay area, the biggest plus of this place for me is the architecture. Outside will look like a decent modern building, however in the main hall, you will feel like back in the 18th century about to endulge in one of Mozart's private royalty concerts. The staff is super friendly and helpful and Valet parking is offered in all events. If you are more the person to park your own car, there is plenty of parking buildings and street parking nearby.

We visited for the first time to watch the Mayumana:Currents, very clean, staff was very courteous, The seating wasn t super comfortable, but the show was so exciting we can t wait to see them again!

I was at Straz performing art center a few times and I always love it. Beautiful out door with water fountain and great view of Hillsborough river. Theaters with comfortable seating and amazing sound. They always have great show like orchestra, musicial shows and specially Broadway. Easy parking and sky walk through from parking garage to the theater. I watched the Phantom of the Opera last night and it was amazing. And I felt appreciate that when I saw the sign language interpreters so everyone can enjoy the show. Coming early 30-45 for parking and enjoy the time with some drink before the show because the door will close after show starts and they don t let you in until break time( it used to be) but last night I saw they made some exceptions, a little annoying and distracting so I hope next time everyone will be come on time.

Enjoyed Nutcracker. Fab venue! Top shows! Need to work on better restroom facilities.

Play was fantastic....the Interpreter for the male role was absolutely the best I have ever seen!!! My niece is deaf and this is a great asset for the Straz! The female was good as well but that guy made the show as well. Thanks to all the cast for delivering such an entertaining evening.

Do not be fooled by ads for 100 days. It lasts that long. There is no intermission. It there was, everybody would leave.

I'd never been to the Straz Center before until last week for a comedy show for a friend's birthday. It's so big and gorgeous in there! Honestly, it was so easy to get in and get right to our seats. We had a great view and enjoyed the show! I already have tickets for another show there!

Enjoyed an excellent jazz concert and since it is so close I will definitely check them out more. They have tons to choose from.

I only went to steamheat but I love their white chocolate mocha!

Love this place..... the musicals, theater plays. Children events etc, etc, etc.

I will continue to go to this awesome center for my art needs. If only you keep bringing the good stuff. Variety is the way to go.

Had a wonderful time watching the Nutcracker, what an amazing production, this show was sold out as well as the next.

Saw 'Wicked' great musical! But, the bathrooms fill up real quick at intermission.

Love the shows and events. Been a Broadway season ticket holder for 15 years. Only complaint is that the auditoriums need new seat cushions.

Saw the Lightning Theif musical which was spectacular.

This is a very nice venue with on site dining for select performances. We attend regularly and its always a pleasurable experience. Plenty of restaurants and hotels within walking distance and a stroll down the riverwalk is alway a favorite after evening events.

Great place to go watch performances. Definitely would suggest valet parking.

Saw the Tampa Orchestra for their opening concert of 2019-2020.

My wife and I recently went to see Hamilton at the Straz. When we walked in there was a bill board announcing that the role of Hamilton was to be played by the stand by performer Pierre Jean Gonzalez. Let me just say Mr Gonzalez performance was very good . My complaint is with the Straz. I got many emails prior to our date telling us where to eat and park, you would think when you are paying the prices everyone paid for this show they could let their audience know in advance. Disappointed with Straz but we enjoyed Mr Gonzalez performance.

Seat Rows are too close together no middle aisle. Hard to get out if you don't sit near the 2 outside aisles.

Parking is a nightmare. Other then that great shows

The Center is great. Parking and the traffic getting to the parking venues are horrible. Once they figure out a better way to control both the parking and the traffic, things will be better. When this will happen is anyone's guess.

Parking is horrible and getting out it worse but loved the show the kids were amazing.

Excellent seating, extremely comfortable. Sound quality is a bit pitchy , orchestra is good. Very spacious throughout and easily accessible.

Great venue. Comfortable spacious but not cramped yet small enough to feel intimate. Good acoustics. Just be aware the Wi-Fi is spotty and the ushers are strict about not permitting video during shows.

This is our second year of holding Broadway passes. Plenty of parking ($10), food onsite/nearby, and great shows. So happy to have seen Hamilton! More shows still to come!

Saw Phantom of the Opera. This theater it's top notch, seating it's great the ushers are helpful and it's a nice atmosphere.

SAW HAMILTON!!!!! FANTASTIC PRODUCTION. Can't say enough about the show possibly the best musical I have seen. Straz Center is a good venue but why to Florida performance hall all seem to omit a center isle which causes you to constantly get up and sit down while the hall is filling up. Other than that it was a good experience.

Saw a great musical here. The theatre was comfortable and every seat had a good view

Great place to see a show. We just watched Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Live in Concert. What a treat! Our seats were great but there were some distractions. We survived. Wish they had a better handle on parking. Waited 20 minutes to leave the garage as they were checking tickets on the way out?

Valet parking was a nightmare, but overall great venue

The theater is clean and the upper levels have very comfortable seating. The orchestra seating is a little cramped but I prefer the mezzanine anyway. All three Maestros dining options ( the restaurant, cafe and On the River) have delicious food and great service.

Shows are wonderful. Venue is beautiful. Sometimes acoustics could be clearer. Parking is a nightmare.

Broadway shows and even local theather company shows too. Comedians, plays...you name it, and also can't forget the amazingly wonderful Florida Orchestra. There's something for everyone here at The Straz!

We saw Gypsi Kings here and it was the best experience ever! Great atmosphere and architectural lay out with superb and unparalleled sound system, the staff is super friendly and the management is great! Stop by soon with your friends and family and coworkers and if you are looking for work apply here!

I love seeing shows at the Straz Center. All seats are good, sound system is great; I've never had a bad experience here.

Great performing arts complex that always had a variety of performances.

I would really love to give this place 5 stars, but a tad bit lacking. Only one bar with very long lines. They usually do not open up seating until about 20 min before the show. Mad rush! However, it is a very intimate theater with fantastic shows.

It is the best place to have fun and unwind. LOVE it

The accpustics are great. The snack bar is well stocked. Made me think of Frasier. Haha!

This center for performing arts has a great variety of shows from comedians, to magicians, to Broadway shows. The Straz has good seating and is clean. Great place to see a show!

Beautiful and clean theaters much nicer and newer looking than the ones in New York. I watched 4 Musicals all of which were done well and had an amazing set. I also took a class here which was also done well. Several guest speakers were brought in that enriched the class.

Great place to get together and take in a show! I really like the setup and the range of productions they attract.

Motown the Musical was definitely worth the price of the tickets. Parking was convenient. They recommended coming early which is a good idea but you won't be allowed to take your seat until 30 min before showtime. Good dining option while you wait.
