Nice place. Poor service: waited a long time for a cup of coffee; unfriendly note when we asked about it; promised glass of water not served. Well tasty cheesecake.
Unfortunately. Our visit was on April 3 at noon.

Great food, quickly served with excellent service. We were a group of 30. We choose from a limited menu, but with a great range of food. It was hot, it came quickly, it tasted great and was served with smiles and attention. Ambience is enhanced by candlelight. Beer and wine was well received and good value for central Amsterdam.

Great

The food was very good as was the service. Interesting decor, a lot of candles provide lighting augmented by traditional lights.
I had the cod fish which was soft and very tasty. The sticky cake for dessert was not what I expected and for me was not really sticky. A bit on the more expensive for pricing but not out of the range for what you get

It's 2020 and they still don't know what vegan is. The food they brought contained in one way or another some non-vegan things, like cream on the bread sticks. At dessert they've corrected themselves and brought a plate of fruit instead of diary ice cream. Great job!

Otherwise the place is nice.

For our last night in Amsterdam, my boyfriend and I wanted to check out the Red Light District. Since Cafe in de Waag was on his list of places to try, and it happened to be in the neighborhood, we made a resso for two.

The restaurant itself looks like a castle. From the outside, you wouldn't think it was a restaurant. Once inside, it's perfect for a date. It's quiet, but not too quiet. It's dark, but not too dark.

What I liked about their menu was that they had a recommended wine OR beer pairing with each of their entrees. Most places just do wine pairings. We went with the beer since we're beer drinkers. We also decided to order a pint of Heineken, because when in Amsterdam, right? I don't normally like Heinekens when I drink them back in the U.S., but I actually enjoyed this one. It tasted crisper. Must be something in the water here.

To start, we had the North Sea crab with nagelhout (smoked meat), old Reypenaer (Dutch cheese) oranges and walnuts. It was weird. There were too many flavors going on - salty, tart, nutty. My taste buds were very confused. There was also not much crabmeat so I can't really speak on whether or not that was fresh.

For my entree, I ordered the Dutch beef (from the charcoal grill - "Opperdoes" - asparagus - lemon-thyme gravy). It was cooked perfectly (medium-rare) and even though I don't normally like asparagus, the white asparagus they served was really good.

For his entree, he went for the Dutch piglet (cooked with hay - potato truffle mousseline - crispy garlic - smoked garlic sauce). I don't usually order pork because most places make it super dry, but this restaurant was the complete opposite. It was tender and I ended up liking this dish better than my own.

So the common theme with Cafe in de Waag is - order something that you normally wouldn't order/like, and you might end up loving it.

Nice place to have lunch or dinner. Good quality but not cheap. Reservation is recommended since it is always busy in this historical place. Very central situated and close to nieuwmarkt subway station.

Just pussy.

Just pussy.
Staff is slow. Partly due to the distance from bar to terrace ..
A 3-course menu from 30th is too sad for words when you see what you get. It could have been such a beautiful place. But they thrive on well-stocked bags from the tourist and not from the people of the city.

Beautiful location in one of the most crowded squares in Amsterdam. Excellent food, mainly meat dishes well prepared and in the right doses. One step away from the center and in a location that is at least unique; it's a stop to do!

Located in Nieuwmarkt, it is the oldest non-religious building in Amsterdam, dating back to the 15th century. During the Middle Ages it served as a gateway to the city, forming part of its walls, being called Sint More

Awesome location. Easy to find. Patio was busy. We sat down at a table that hadn t been cleared yet and I saw the remanents of a cheesecake which I promptly ordered. Cheesecake was delicious.

I was drawn to this building because it looked old and prominent, so perhaps worth a visit! I wasn't expecting great food, but having gone with the recommended daily special of mussels and a chocolatey Porter I actually was not at all disappointed! The pot of mussels was insanely large and easily enough for two. The beer was to die for.

Service was great. When asked about places to visit in Amsterdam she kept on referring me to weed cafes, which was a bit weird.

Not always the best service but than again workers here deal with people from all over the world and that's not easy as well. Options for seating inside as well as outside. Inside near a window it is possible to witness unseen the many different creatures passing this famous place...and in some cases also 'enjoy' the typical Amsterdam people that live on the street and try to grab some heat coming from inside the building.

What a terrible experience.

What a terrible experience.

We are not helped upon arrival, we had to call someone for every service (staff chatting with each other)

There is an unpleasant reaction as if I am some sort of burden.
The moment I ask one of the boys if I want to speak to the manager, the snot nose asks warom than you can tell me.

I first had to win a discussion to speak to the manager.

The manager outright takes it for his staff the rude unkind lady who helped us is "his best waitress".

When the food finally came alone it was not even tasty me and my partner left the half and left.

In short rude staff that is not helpful but also unpleasant food. A manager who not only allows that but also supports it.

Afterwards I am ashamed that I have paid I should have walked away without paying.

This was literally the worst eating out evening of my life.

Atypical setting, but not very warm welcome at first. A little warmer welcome once the dishes are served. Dishes well supplied. We took the burgers, and the bread was unfortunately overcooked around the edges.
Not recommended with a baby. Nothing is planned for. No chair and no way to heat up a meal. One person was sick with the duck.

Lovely food, beer and wine selection here in a great little spot, and a beautiful building. Good for a place to meet as a group of friends or family. Large tables, friendly and helpful service. Food was good quality and value.
