Set in what looks like an old castle this place is a hidden gem in Amsterdam's red light district. Good food at reasonable (for Europe) prices. Well versed waiters speak English and they have a good drink selection.

I was there for a beer and a snack. Got some good beer, and a simple snack of cheese and olives. Not much choice. Service was OK, on the slow side. Surprising given the place was empty. It's a nice environment for a beer or coffee.

First, the waiters are really quick and efficient. They are good looking and charming as well. The place is lovely. The subway tiles on the floor were unique and the game of thrones castle like feel with the candles and the rusty tables are interesting. Their lighting makes the mood more pleasing. As for the food, the tasting platter of starter was gorgeous and taste equally good, love the shrimp and the mushroom soup. But the sad part was, we were quite hungry and the main course was though well executed but didnt taste anything.. i dont smoke so im sure my taste buds are not burnt. Although i consider appreciating the taste of the fish but the entire taste in the plating didnt quite make it. I was hungry and didnt finish my main course i hopped to my seatmate and grabbed his angus stew which tasted like corned beef but it was bit good. Maybe we had to explore more from the menu or probably get something that should suit our taste. But the dessert was quite special, liked the brownie fudge bar with gelato. It says there that its with vanilla cream but when i tasted, its more like yogurt coz of the sour kick unless i joked to my bro in law that it was spoiled creme then it should taste such haha but i think it was more on the prior. Nonetheless, the dessert was happy. The apple juice though its from a bottle, was quite the apple juice i was looking for.

This restaurant is located right in the middle of old Amsterdam in a friendly place, somewhat free of mass tourism. Very good kitchen with creative dishes. Not the cheapest but also in relation to the location also visited by a pleasant audience that appreciates both old Amsterdam and good cuisine.

The tapas (snacks) were good, and the surroundings pleasant. Unfortunately, we waited 15 minutes because the waiter did not deign to sit at a table or look at us at the same time. We ended up setting ourselves up at a table that has not been cleaned, even after our order. In short, I do not really recommend for the quality of the service which leaves something to be desired.

87 European AVANTIME owners were here during a perfect lunch on Friday, June 22, 2018. Tight organization (necessary for further activities), good and affordable food and drinks; and then a very friendly service. Nothing but praise. Recommended! Thank you.

Great historic place. Great beer and good food. Nice server and a great gal. We were met with a smile in a pouring rain, the restaurant was full, but we really wanted to stay - got outside under the shed, blankets on us and enjoying laughs and beers as they came.

Nicely located in the historic anatomic theater on a central square in the city center. The terrace provides a nice view on bicycle traffic, the occasional market and the bustling everyday Amsterdam traffic, without too many cars around.
The food is pretty well done, though vegetarian options are limited. Staff is young and friendly, but the average wait is quite long when the weather is nice.

Nice restaurant placed in the historical town gate of Amsterdam. Nice and fitting interior. Good food and drinks. In the summer the outdoor tables are a great place to get a glimpse at the city life while you enjoy a fine dinner.

The location is very nice and offers a nice outdoor area to sit on, especially in summer. The service is very friendly and quick and the drinks and food are consistently good. Overall, a nice spot for a break. Only the fact that the opening hours for breakfast are a bit late is negative. Otherwise highly recommended.

A very, awful place. The service is slow. Steak was served for 1.5 hours. Waiter waited 20 minutes to receive the order. The photo shows the terrible quality of the steak. Raw meat. The portions are small and it is strange that in such a beautiful place such a poor restaurant.

This is a most beautiful and historical building. I feel unfortunately disappointed at the level of disrespect from some of the staff in the waag Cafe towards both myself and the building itself. I have never written a negative review before but am sitting in here now, wanting to feel and enjoy the ambiance, but the staffs ridiculously loud voices and clanging of everything is disrespectful.
Absolutely gutted as I adore the history and beauty of Amsterdam but feel let down here. I have Not enjoyed my experience one bit here.

Poor service moderate food not in accordance with price, nice sunshine.10 minutes wait before we are noticed. Table is dirty and full of plates etc from the previous guests. Payment at the central point on the terrace takes another 5 minutes. Other guests share my opinion they were also waiting there. Lunch compared to our visit declined a few months ago. The sun is shining that matters.

Beautiful historical building with a delicious restaurant. De Waag is also very suitable for larger events such as birthdays or company celebrations. The outdoor terrace is ideal in summer.

The food here was impressive, however the 850g steak was really not that big (the entrecote wastes a lot of weight with bone) so rather than have it as a sharing plate as suggested, you'd be better off with it all to yourself.

The history of the place is what really sets In de Waag apart: they used to host live autopsies on the top floor. Yes, that's right...
