People this is the old Cecil Hotel where many unexplained deaths have happened and is next to skid row. Until this Hotel comes up with what happen to Elisa Lam they need to stop business

Very small rooms. Not that good breakfast only waffles and it's very cheap but not worth it . The walls are so thin and the bathrooms are shared. It's just not a place I would stay at if your at la fir a vacation . And plus I just heard about the death of Elisa lam and I'm not happy about it.

According to what I have read, that hotel has very bad energy

I do not know why it rides around on the past and repeatedly pulls the Hotel Cecil through the mud? 9/11 many people have died too, but does that stop you from airports, flying or skyscrapers ??? NO! I have never stayed here, but I would do it right away because I do not think anything would happen to me. It's statistically more likely to be run over by a car! I would test it here immediately and stay !!!

I'm writing this review in the hopes some of you out there may stay clear and find better hotels before a convention or event. Anyway, I stayed at Stay on Main not because I wanted to, but because there was literally nothing available to book. Well, I suppose my doubts about this hotel were well founded because everything about it reeks cheap and low-quality: Rooms are REALLY small (think smaller than a standard studio apartment), there's no A/C (save for a small fan and ceiling fan in the room), TV does not have HDMI input, closet space is almost non-existent, there is no tub as shower, sink, and toilet share the same space in bathroom (with no lock for privacy either!) And I haven't even covered where it's located; right in one of the shadier parts of LA. Pretty gritty, you'll need to bring a friend along to feel safe in the area. Now, the only reason I didn't give this hotel 1-star is not out of pity, but because they at least provide free breakfast, afternoon snack and entertainment down in the lobby, so there's that. Overall, it's okay if you're setting your expectations pretty low, but if you're on a budget, you could do a lot worse.

Maybe it was limited to being a movie set ........................ !!!!!!!!!

I've never been to this hotel but I'm posting this review to outweight the childish reviews that think it's funny to "joke" and hurt a business.

It's a visiually stunning local. My spiritual inclinations would not allow me to stay long.

Nice hotel but the water tastes weird when brushing my teeth.
Also low water pressure and alot of homeless people outside the lobby doors.

3rd time I go to this hotel-hostel that is in downtown Los Angeles, unbeatable location if you don't rent a car, the subway in 7a. or in the squad they are close, practically all the bus routes go through the center, and you get wherever you want, the area is close to homeless help centers and they find you several way to the hotel, but they are quite quiet, you just They ask for coins, you say NO and don't insist, the hotel offers a light breakfast that consists of milk, coffee, oatmeal, juice and some delicious waffles that they prepare for you at the moment, the staff is usually Latin and most of them speak Spanish, what's more, practically all city services are served by Latinos. the price of the rooms with bathroom included, they are a bit expensive, but there are rooms with bunk beds of 45 dlls, I recommend the ones facing the street that cost an average of 100 dollars, for the quality of the hotel, but it is compensated by the location, Delicate, complainers and hysterical tourists abstain, quality in relation to prices is OK, there is a macys for your purchases, or a Ross store if you go on a budget plan, 7eleven for the basics and a walgreens pharmacy that is almost a supermarket has everything

I had an enjoyable stay. It's in a rougher part of downtown Los Angeles, but it's not that bad. Hotel was clean, staff was friendly, and I had no problems. If you go south and east of the hotel, you get into some rough territory but otherwise you shouldn't have a problem. It's a great alternative to the 200-300 per night rooms downtown.

Those who go to this hotel are afraid to be afraid. Stop saying close the hotel, it stinks etc. And read the history of the hotel before you cry! For my part it is a truly spectacular hotel to see #fanatiquedelhorreurs

The staff at the main hotel was the best I have ever experienced. The rooms were always clean

Just visiting because I heard it was the inspiration for the hotel Cortez from American Horror Story Hotel. Friendly staff cool atmosphere

Place was ok..however chilly feelings. Weird smell of and on will mot stay there again rooms not that clean hairs in the shower tub. Bed bugs!

Super cheap place, wifi is crap and the breakfast is just waffles and cereal. Very central though. Make sure you all for a room with a bathroom attached

The water came out black at first and also the elevators were not working

I visited the hotel hoping to see some spirit like that of Elisa Lam, but I was disappointed. Every night at three o'clock I heard knocks on the door, but other than that, the demon did not even give me a fright. I expected more.

You get what you pay for. WiFi is rather unstable as well.

I stayed there one night in 2005 to go to la Brea tarpits (prior to all the stories since). I didn't take a shower because it was down the hallway and well that's just too much of a hassle. The water was nasty and grey and the pipes were loud when I did take a pee 2x. But, I realize it was an old building..

The only thing that was odd was I remember at 12am'ish some old guy knocked on my door asking for a bar of soap. Weird.

Myself and two friends stayed here a while back. the service was around the clock. They even stand at the end of your bed and watch you sleep. The tap water is more like flat cola but still delightful in a cup of tea - only if you ad a few more sugars than you usually would. the hotel runs it own activities such as hide and seek with the room furniture and you would sometimes wake up in other rooms. overall a rather good experience.

Do not be fooled by the remodeling, the low price and the location this hotel formerly called Hotel Cecil opened in 1924 at 640 S. Main Street in Los Angeles has now changed the name to Stay on Main to wash your image. Guests who say they hear noise and even have suffered strangulation while sleeping. In this hotel Elizabeth Short was the image of the hotel and appeared dead, mutilated and dismembered in the room. It is also the same hotel where he committed suicide Pauline Otten jumped out of one of the windows and fell on a pedestrian who also died and Goldie Osgood was raped and strangled in her room. The hotel had as its resident murderer Richard Ramirez, sentenced to death for 13 murders and Jack Unterweger, murdered three prostitutes within the enclosure strangling them with bra straps. And the best known was the death of Elisa Lam was a Canadian tourist who appeared dead in one of the water tanks on the roof of the hotel. How did she open the floodgates that were heavier than her? Why did not the security alarm sound? It is not known but the body was discovered because the guests complained about the bad taste of the water. When checking the security cameras it was proven that Elisa had a strange behavior minutes before dying. The autopsy revealed that he had not taken drugs or alcohol, nor did he have any mental illness so many speak of possession. If you do not believe me look for all these echos on the Internet to see that they are real and not an invention.

I'm staying in the penthouse and it's a wonderful apartment. The other rooms are set up like hotels in Europe... Some restrooms and showers are outside of the room. However, it's well worth the stay. Historically it's a must to see.

This place has just been renamed from the infamous Cecil hotel.
It's cheap fairly clean, and acceptable this is an okay budget place with better facilities and location than most for this price.

Didn't stay here but came here to visit the hotel that Elisa Lam died in...from an evil spirit? Very old and not very updated from the inside, but looks cool. Not in the best neighborhood but not scary or anything. Cool old architecture that you don't see everywhere. Had character...and is probably haunted, if you believe in that type of thing.

It was closed. I wanted to have a few drinks in the bar, maybe next time.

What happened with Elisa Lam, I think that people should know what happened if you want to visit their hotel? Say what happened to you, did you find the causes of his death? Because they only leave it filed and they do not mention it? we all need answers>: c

It's really disgusting hotel I never recommend k never be in this hotel this dirty chikisisisimo, awful bathroom the water comes out cold hot orrible is painted from ace years the air conditioning is a ceiling fan and the window you have k open for k between air, the beds are stone demacias chikitas a turn and you fall off the bed no internet no cable nothing nothing nothing the breakfast is a waffle and a mini glass of juice they ask you 60 dollars of deposit and alfinal or return them seriously disgusting hotel.

I do not believe in ghosts or the paranormal, however, I do believe in murderous employees who will escort you to the roof and stuff you into a water tank. Toured this place, would never stay there.

God knows the secrets that exist in that hotel, although what matters most to me is: Who killed Elisa Lam? Or was it suicide?

Every staff member past and present should read the book gone after midnight. In this book it describes the cover up of Elisa lams death. Edited and manipulated cctv tried to give the impression Elisa was insane and accidently got through Supposedly
locked and alarms doors opened the tanks and drowned. Imagine if it was your daughter? Release ALL the footage including in the hallways of the poor lady. Strange when you reach the rooftop there is a sign saying this area is under surveillance.

You can change the name but not re write the past. This is an obvious murder and cover up in my opinion

2 serial killers lived there, many suicides have been killed throwing themselves through the window, 3 people have died including Elisa Lam in February 2013, found dead in the rooftop dina of the hotel where hundreds of people bathed and / or took water from the faucet contaminated by the remains of the corpse in a state of decomposition of Elisa, without a doubt the worst hotel in the world to stay!

It is a beautiful place in downtown L.A. suites really clean and the front desk it is specially helpful

It was a very affordable, conveniently located hotel/hostel. But the service was not great and the amenities were lacking a bit

I personally have never been to this hotel, but people have to stop saying that the water was black or the shower pressure was low because those unfortunate incidents happened in 2013. NOT NOW!!! Get over it ok.

Expensive. Bathroom/shower where shared and in the hallway and were tiny! No parking.

Close to cozy and delicious restaurants. The rooms are austere and there is no free wifi.

Its been abandoned but my friends and I snuck to the 5th floor to sleep. couldnt get any sleep tho because of the sound a sharpning metal and what was what I believed to be a faint dripping sound coming from the room next to me and heavy breathing.

It's ok. The relation among value-cost is great, and it also helps you to live the true LA experience, the one with all the junkies around, and policemen everywhere, but... in such a great spiritual city. :D

Was taking a shower and the water pressure was very low. Also the water tasted weird and sometimes the water was black. Would not recommend to come here again.

How can you go about it with all the murders that have taken place in this hotel? It's a shame don't give your money to this hotel.

Half-renovated structure, half of which remained in the 1960s. To be avoided absolutely if your room is not in the first set ....

Not a big fan of the area. Breakfast is isn't that great and I expected a bit more for the price I paid for a room with a private bathroom.

small rooms, sharing bathrooms is interesting. some of the bathrooms are tiny, some are okay. their amenities aren't the worst. staff is nice. 3pm checkin is weird to me.

Rooms are a little dingy, but that's a given considering the age of the hotel. The price is pretty good for what you get, and the cleaning staff is actually really nice! Also, the lobby is beautiful; it's a nice atmosphere to be in when you're enjoying your mediocre continental breakfast. But hey, it's free. Not too crazy about the communal showers and bathrooms, but that's just preference. For what it's worth, those facilities are kept surprisingly clean!

Everything is great but I've slept on streets that were more comfortable than our bed.

I like haunted hotels haha, although it seems crazy is my favorite hotel because there was Richard Ramirez and murdered 13 people in room 13 and it always sounds like they were crying, also at night you feel the sensation that someone is Hanging, is also my favorite because ... The American Horror Story T.5 series: Hotel, were inspired by this hotel to make the "Hotel Cortez" is not it amazing? So many terrifying and suspicious things that have happened there and if it is one of my favorites I would gladly stay there One Night.
