My elderly mother was transferred here from the ma...

My elderly mother was transferred here from the main hospital in Fitzroy after surgery for a fractured hip. With the notable exception of night staff (who can be plain scary) the treatment was good, although generally inferior to that of the main hospital, especially regarding details like preventative care and monitoring for risk of fall (especially at night). The Rehab environment as a whole was also unpleasant by comparison: the ward noisy and overheated to a nauseating degree. My mother felt sick from the overheating during her time here as did her visitors.

My nonno was in here for a short stay for rehabilitation because he got a hip replacement. They only let him walk around one day per week and two weeks ago we found that for the last 3 days they had not fed or given him any water (they just gave him tablet to sleep, they said he was "high risk code grey") Then he was rushed to hospital because of malnourishment because of the no food and water. he passed away in hospital a day later and st georges are covering it up.

My grandma was unfortunate enough to break her arm...

My grandma was unfortunate enough to break her arm just before Christmas last year. After 4 weeks in hospital because she couldn't move by herself she was asked to move to St George's. Appalling service! They didn't help her to the bathroom meaning she just went on her bed and sat it in for days before they would change the sheets. After being in there for another 4 weeks in there and a request each day for a shower they did not give her one! Many lies about "being too busy" but when my mum and I would visit they would just be on their phones around the front desk gossiping about what they did on the weekend. This is not a hospital at all! No help trying to help her recover strength in her arm nor getting her up and walking around like the Epworth Hospital. My grandma is a hilarious and crazy woman who doesn't shut up, this hospital make her miserable, no more classic Greek jokes and so quiet. After 4 weeks we couldn't stand her lying there withering away anymore so we took her to our own home to take care of her... after a week of my family helping her (shower every day, help to the bathroom and proper food!) she went back to her old self in a weeks time! A ridiculous amount of money wasted on this place for absolutely no help!

Can't give less than 1 star.

Can't give less than 1 star.

Truly one of the most horrifying places I have ever been.

Culturally, ethically foul.

My mother was transferred to the GEM ward after be...

My mother was transferred to the GEM ward after being discharged from St Vincent's with an infection. She suffers from alzheimers too and had acute delirium. She also understands very little English.Although she couldn't participate in rehab due to her drowsy state, she was left bed ridden. A physio chair that had been provided was taken away and nobody knew where it was. She was left sitting in a chair all day with her feet dangling in mid air and with no foot stool. I was told this was ok by the nurses despite my concerns .This eventually left her legs severely swollen and is now recovering by having them elevated. I had to point out the swelling because nobody seemed to notice. Eating and drinking was a nightmare and I had to attend to this myself. She only had two proper showers in the 3 weeks she was there by two lovely nurses. I don't even recall staff changing any bed linen either. Her vitals were down one night after a medical episode. The doctor decided to call me on my mobile while I'm at the hospital to tell me my mum was dying as she drove herself there but only to arrive and tell me she was OK now. Had no compassion at all and the place felt so impersonal.I still feel traumatised by this event. We need a different system in place for those living with dementia and suffering from other illness. The hospital system is ill equipped to deal with these specialized cases. My mother's condition went from bad to worse. I did not want her moved into their transition ward where I was told at St Vincent's will assist in her recovery. The place was narrow, small, dark and gloomy and hardly ideal for somebody with delirium to recover in. She has now moved into an aged care facility instead.

In early November 2017 I was unfortunate enough to have had a stroke. Following a number of weeks in St Vincent s I was transferred to St George s hospital for rehabilitation. I was terrified but determined to get well again. The staff (Admin, Support, Nursing and the Doctors) were amazing. They helped me become comfortable and got me on my way to recovery. Everyday for months they cared, provided for my needs and worked hard to assist my recovery. Every single one of the Staff members overflowed with knowledge and kindness, and lead me to a point whereby I could speak, think and walk again sufficiently to cope on my own. They arranged for ongoing programs I could benefit from following my departure from hospital even though I was heading interstate to be with family. I owe these people a great deal of gratitude and can t speak highly enough of their skill and commitment. Thank you so very much. You are all genuine and caring people and deserve the very best in life for the great job you do.
My very sincere thank you and best wishes.
Les.

I hope people are aware that St George's Ellerslie unit or transition care place that people are talking about is actually run entirely separate from the rest of the hospital eg their medication service is actually not done internally by their own pharmacy apparently but rather contracted to external Chemist warehouse. People's experience in that part of the hospital should not be extrapolated.

My Mother stayed at the Ellerslie unit for 12 weeks. Many of the Nursing staff and certain senior staff members lacked Compassion for Family members and Certain mature staff where extremly rude to me. Unfrotunately not a very good experience. They truly need to higher better staff and not just anyone.
