The church next to the Rose Market across from London Bridge. Although it may not be well known, it is a very nice church. The famous places in the guidebook are good, but the church loved by the locals is also good.

Lovely building, been told it used to serve the less wealth on the southern side of London Bridge when the Bridge was a gate to the city.
Historical place.

I am go there for my Sunday service occasionally, the echo is so over powering in the church that I could hardly hear the sermon sometimes.

Visited purely to see Doorkins the Magnificat. Finally met her on my second visit after waiting 2 hours for her to show up from her hidden nap place. The cathedral itself was like any other grand cathedral to my untrained eye. The staff are very friendly and accommodating

I always call this the "3rd London Cathedral". The tourist guides promote Westminster Abbey and St Paul's Cathedral. Southwark Cathedral is worth a visit. For anyone who has not been to London in some years, London Bridge station is extremely accessible and definitely on the destination map along with Borough Market and Maltby Street / Bermondsey Street.

Lovely and often overlooked cathedral on the south bank of the River Thames in London. Deceptively big inside with lots of nooks and crannies to explore. The cathedral has a good refectory serving nice food. They also have good conferencing facilities available for corporate events. And being just across the road from London Bridge station, it is really easy to get to. Well worth a visit.

We didn't go in but did see the cathedral when strolling through the market. We happened to find seats across the way from the cathedral so was observing it from a distance. It would have been nice to take a look around inside but we didn't have the time.

Southwark Cathedral, close to London Bridge and Borough Market, is perhaps the oldest building in London; It was erected as a monastery in the 13th century and has undergone many changes over the centuries.

There has been a church on this site for over 1000 years, although the present building is not that old as the churches on this sight were often damaged by fire and then rebuilt but parts of this cathedral apparently
do date back at least to the 15th century.
It was almost demolished to build a railway viaduct and as it is, it actually passes with 18 metres.
This area was very heavily bombed during the Second World War and if you look carefully at the exterior of this cathedral you will be able to note some of the shrapnel damage.

The cathedral is a restful place to begin a tour of the south bank of the Thames. The building is quite gothic. If you pay attention you will notice that the chandellier and other fixtures are somewhat askew to the main aisle. There is a Harvard room and a Shakespeare memorial. Worth a quick visit.

Small as English cathedrals go with a tremendous history befitting the location. Some pretty old parts such as the four chapels at the East end and some more recent so giving a mix of building styles but, essentially, can be described overall as Gothic. Free entry but donations are welcome and, to be fair, it is well worth donating to help maintain historic buildings such as these.
