Magical studio. Giles and Sam are great! Really good gear and amazing vibes on this old lightship music studio. Highly recommended!

Being in the studio can be time pressured and restrictively self-conscious, Simon is a master producer, not just for his technical experience and skill, but his empathy with the artistic process, openness and willingness to support unconventional ideas as well as his sheer stamina - We ve recorded 4 albums at Soup, we first arrived in 2014 and have never bothered to look elsewhere. Simon s commitment to detail has helped us improve as players as well as recording artists.
Sam has the musical instinct to set up the right dynamic /perfect sound in the room. He s a perfectionist, with a hugely gifted ear. We we re lucky enough to have him provide some sublime guitar solo on several tracks. He took on my impromptu suggestions with consummate grace, and made my thoughts audible with an effortless, subtle skill. We look forward to our next sessions.

Great experience recording at Soup (studio A). The live room and Giles' expertise gave us great tones and the studio has all the ideal equipment to help us achieve the sounds we wanted (leslie speaker, fender amps, hammond, chandler tube driver, great selection of pedals etc). Really happy to have recorded with Giles, not just an extremely efficient engineer and editor but also has been consistently positive, good humoured and helpful in the making of our EP, giving just the right amount of interaction and input to help make us feel relaxed and bring out our best performances, as well as giving valuable constructive criticism of parts and arrangements. Also helped us to keep costs as low as possible, which is much appreciated. Also enjoyed briefly recording with Sam Beer, a really enthusiastic and friendly engineer/musician with great instincts for arrangement and tone. I definitely recommend Soup Studios and hope to be able to record there again in future.

The great equipment and instruments, coupled with a special ambiance combine to make working in Soup Studios a pleasure every time. Soup's greatest asset, though, is Giles Barrett. Giles is a first-rate engineer, whose empathy and care for the recording at hand is always evident. Thank you Giles!

We have recorded here a number of times, by far our preferred studio. Producer Simon Trought really understands how to get the right sounds, using the natural reflections in the room - and also great expertise with a stunning range of vintage mics and amps. We like to record as much live as possible, to get a unified performance down, in the footsteps of acts such as RL Burnside, Cedric Burnside, Hound Dog Taylor, New Orleans artists at J&M Studios and Chess back in the day... current guys like Wilko Johnson, Delgres, Diabel Cissokho, etc. The list goes on - catching that live vibe is invaluable, and not many places can do it like Soup.

Recorded here for 4 days with my string quartet - Ligeti Quartet. A wonderful experience. The room was a perfect size and great acoustic for recording some very difficult music. Dave and Giles (each did 2 days of these sessions) were great engineers and so accommodating. Great equipment and convenient location too! I highly recommend working here.

Soup Studio is one of the most atmospheric, well organised and professional recording studios in the UK. I can't recommend Simon and Sam highly enough. They were patient, collaborative and a joy to be around for our two days at Soup. I don't think I'll go anywhere else. Worth every penny.

I've been in many recording studios over the years and this one steals the show for me. I've just spent two days recording at Soup and every minute was great. The studio has fantastic gear, and most importantly Giles Barrett is a first-rate engineer, and from that everything flows... Soup has a special and intimate atmosphere, unlike some studios that can be a bit clinical and soulless. A fantastic place to work.

Hands down the best studio I've recorded in. Great location, vibe and equipment. We recorded with Dave and Simon who were full of useful advice and ideas and really helped us nail our sound. I also was in contact with Giles by email whose quick replies were very useful. Keep on the good work guys and thanks for everything!

Dave Holmes engineered and mixed my funk pop/rock album at Soup Studios. It was reassuring that Dave and Giles were responsive and helpful in our email exchanges before the session. On the day, Dave was keen to get us comfortable in the space from the offset and was sensitive to the sound we were going for. We recorded live with a singer in the adjoining booth over two days and were really productive thanks to Dave working fast. He chipped in with some choice ideas for overdubs and tweaks to song arrangements. He was also just lovely to hang out with in the studio.
In the mixing stage, Dave turned our relatively rough and ready performances into a professional, punchy and sleek recording. He invited me to a couple of attended mixing sessions at his studio, but he did a lot of work on his own too. I felt from the beginning that Dave knew where we were coming from. I ll definitely work with Dave and Soup Studios again and wouldn t hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

Absolutely amazing place. Recorded some promo videos here recently for my new band. Giles was really accommodating and he's insanely good at what he does. Will definitely be coming back here for future projects!

I'm essentially reviewing two studio as halfway through the album I was working on Soup relocated from Cable Street, to a lighthouse ship on Trinity Bouy Wharf. The former was a very good studio, that was comfortable to work in and well equipped; the latter is a big upgrade. The recording room is much larger and has improved acoustics, the desk has been upgraded, and of course you are recording on a unique ship in a quirky, creative, and relatively unknown part of London.
I worked with Giles and Simon who both were professional, encouraging, and committed to the project. Their communication was lightning quick, and to the point. They had helpful and insightful input at times, but also let me guide the overall aesthetics and sound of the project. More than anything it's a fun and inspiring place to be, with a team of people who are really into music and pursuing new sounds.
I'd be inclined to give the previous studio four stars. The new studio environment brought out some small defects in the recording from Cable Street, though these were quickly fixed by Giles. The Trinity Bouy Wharf Studio I would wholeheartedly give five stars. I cannot imagine finding something better in London for the same price. It's worth looking also at some of the clients that have passed through (e.g., Moses Boyd, 47Soul). There's also a Sound on Sound video on Youtube about Soup Studios. You can also listen to my album Geometric (Dom Aversano), which was recorded entirely at Soup. All around, highly recommended.

Great studio, super atmosphere and lots of great equipment. The guys that run the studio make you feel at home and are always ready to help out. Whether you know exactly what you want or might need to bounce some ideas around they're always capable of getting you where you want the material to be.
