Lovely historical place with affordable price for rooms and foods. Friendly staff always with smile. We took a luxury Nile view room, it was a large room with a small reception and 2 televisions. A large balcony with Nile and swimming pool view, a dressing room and a large bathroom with hot tub. The food was delicious, the fruits and vegetables were fresh, many thanks to all the staff: Mostafa and Mohamed at pool, Hydra and Asran at coffee shop by the Nile river. At Old cataract, you can see the best view of the Nile. Wish to visit again in Winter.

This is the third time I stayed at this hotel. This is probably one of the oldest and obviously the most famous (for having had renowned people including Agatha Christie and Winston Churchill), but I believe this hotel is still the best at least in this area in terms of wonderful service and spectacular view.

Very snobbish place, even on a request for a lunch reservation, they happily shunned us off from even before the security point. Indecently arrogant and cold enough to cherish the redundant pride. The second star in the rating is only for the amazing spirit of Egypt, to which this property is certainly a disgrace!

Step into the legendary site where King Fouad once entertained and Agatha Christie sipped cocktails: the 5-star Sofitel Legend Old Cataract Aswan Hotel. In the Nubian Desert on the banks of the Nile, opposite Elephantine Island, the majestic hotel sits on a pink granite cliff overlooking the world's longest river. This ravishing hotel with its legendary guest list of royals and dignitaries is both ideal for romantic getaways, and a perfect venue for small summits and corporate meetings.

The views, the attention, the service. This historic hotel is wonderful. It also has a jetty to enjoy the Nile without having to travel by land. I recommend rooms with views of the Nile. A pleasure to inhabit.

A special place that values stunning views. Seeing the Nile from it is more than wonderful
Taking a boat to stroll in the Nile is something magical
It has promoted the ministry of many and many world stars and celebrities. Faten Hamamah and Omar Sharif visited him, and each of them had a picture with their light.

The hotel is georgrous. The service is for sure need some improvement. I'm on hospitality for more than 10 years. 1st the waiter and waitress could definitely smile more. 2. The food itself is good except that I bit some stone from my shrimp salad. The waiter came to me and says that was semame. Grrr. Well it almost cracked my crown. F&b manager came to apologize but did not offer to change my plate or anything. 3. Once you are asking to charge the phone. They seems to do it for giving me a big favor. Well I would say it's a beautiful hotel with its reputation as No. 1 in Aswan but the service is not as good as in movenpick here.

Beautiful hotel with a historical building and a newer modern tower - try to get a room with a view if you stay at the historical building - totally worth the price. Take a boat ride from the hotel and enjoy the breathtaking views of the Nile.

First palace that I see applying an admission process: obliging to go through an airlock where you have to leave 300LE to have access to the terrace and a drink. 18Consumption, luxury has a price, of course, but we are clearly in segregation there. The welcome was friendly and understood our rejection of the deal. In short, we were able to visit the main sites in Aswan without being able to simply take advantage of the old cataract. Without anyone from the outside, you have to be bored firmly between people of good company ... The winter palace in Louxor fortunately does not have the same access policy.

For the food, not the hotel. Short version: Service was mediocre, food was mediocre, hotel is gorgeous. Not worth $100 for two people. Frankly, the whole thing came off like they're coasting on their reputation. My advice is, if you want to see the place, come for a drink.

The Terrace said they only had inside seats, which, ok, that's what I get for making last minute reservations. Showed up, they couldn't find our reservation, but we paid the $30 per person deposit to get onto the grounds and headed in. The grounds were gorgeous, we were excited to explore after the meal.

Went in the front door, it wasn't clear where the restaurant was. Asked, headed towards the back. Asked at what looked like a hostess desk. Was told we could seat ourselves outside. Which was a little confusing, but great! there are outside seats after all! We went outside and sat. The waiter came to take our drink order, and asked our room number. When we said we weren't guests, just visiting for dinner, he said we'd have to sit on the next terrace over. Keep in mind, there are zero people seated on the nicer of the two terraces. I could see keeping a few tables for guests who might drop in without a reservation, but there was no one there. We move. It's a little chiller out from under the roof. It takes 20 min and two requests to get one of the portable heaters moved next to our table.

They bring us bread. 10 min later, after we've gotten crumbs all over the table, they bring us bread plates. Oh, and the butter is in little plastic individual serving packets. We order the Egyptian wine flights, and the server tries to talk us out of it, warning that the servings are very small. I was expecting to get three shot glasses of wine from his description. The flights come, and it's perfectly normal flights- three wine glasses each about a third full. Note: the wine wasn't amazing, but that was fine- I know Egypt doesn't produce alot of wine, and I was curious what it would be like. Curiosity satisfied!

The food comes. The best part of the meal, hands down, was the parmesan crusted calamari. It wasn't rings, it was a couple of slices of lightly breaded calamari. They were delicious. However, the menu described it as coming with marinara. The red sauce artfully swirled on the plate was a pretty potent hot sauce. Warn people!

After the meal we had a nice wander around the gorgeous grounds. The interior of the hotel is cool. Imagine our surprise when we found a terrace of tables with story book views of the Nile...with no one seated there. So not only couldn't we sit on the guest terrace, there was another one they weren't using. Instead, we ate with a view of the pool. The Nile would have been visible beyond the pool, except the pool is so lit up at night you can't see past it. Saves the servers walking the food farther I guess.

Remember how I said at the beginning that I'd been told we could only get a reservation to sit inside at the Terrace? But then when we got there they couldn't find our reservation? And then we were seated outside? As we were dining, I heard the staff tell at least two other sets of guests that The Terrace doesn't take reservations.

One of the best hotel locations I've been. Workers are kind even though when we got there we had no egyptian currency and only 100 dllr bills, so the bellboy who took our luggage to the room stood in the door like he wasn't leaving without a tip, at the end he did not leave without tip... but well, most of the people in the hotels I've been in Egypt get used to tips for everything...
