I ve been to Backdoor Sports one other time and loved tubing down the Yampa River in Steamboat Springs.
This year, I brought my younger friends to tube with me (I m 70).
Backdoor Sports provides water shoes if needed ($2) and super tubes ($20 with coupon). After an hour of fun tubing, they pick you up on a shuttle bus and bring you back to your car. This is something to plan for after June because of high water.

We had been recommended Backdoor Sports, and in particular, their tubing operation. I was extremely disappointed when I talked to a staffer. I called ahead, and was told that the tubing was extremely busy , not in an informative manner, but a condescending and rude way. Instead of informing me that they simply didn t have availability, he berated me by letting me know there was pandemic (which everyone is very well aware of). If they feel comfortable or have availability, we would have been fine being told such. However, the staffer lectured me for 2 minutes. As I told him, I am happy to take my business elsewhere, and I recommend other people do so.

I really liked Backdoor Sports. The people were so stoked about everything. You could tell they really liked figuring out the best solution for ur skiing woes. Lots of smelly dudes who know a lot about telemark skiing. Five stars!!!!!

I first came to Backdoor Sports on a kayaking trip to the yampa valley about 20 years ago. Pete (the owner) and now Kevin (his main employee) have given me nothing but the absolute best in service, price, and advice. I would highly recommend this business for all of your outdoor needs!

So I wanted to take my family on a fun tubing adventure. Half way down the river there was a group of drunken tramps playing a ring toss game with an inflatable p#$!s and I steered my family away. I understand that backdoor sports is not responsable for all the drunken loosers that rent from them but after the tubing trip ended we went to wait for the bus and of course my family ended up sharing the bus with this group of sad narcissistic immoral hussies who had to continue making sex jokes with their little toy. I would have thought the bus driver or the worker riding with us would have said something. But no. When I returned to the rental place and filed my complaint I was told that there was nothing they could do for me. So in short, buy your own tubes. You will have a better time and avoid being stuck riding the bus with a bunch of drunken retards who live off their mommy and daddy 's trust fund and are a pure suck on society.

Just finished dropping off our rental of a paddleboard and kayak...Hands down the best place to rent equipment. Coming from Nebraska for a family trip I called around to find out the best prices and information...Pete from Backdoor emailed me and when I spoke to him they gave me all the info needed. For being an out if towner I could not have asked for a better experience. Definitely coming back here for my equipmnet needs especially since we just purchased a vacation home. Thanks for making our trip amazing!

Made reservation for tubes in advance. Reservation was easy to make. Still had to wait in line though it was not horrible on friday. The guys at the check in were not really able to answer questions we had about tubing with the company or where the bathroom was. We were told a few different things.

Shoe rentals are $5 not $3 listed on the website.

The kid at the shoe area was confident, helpful, informative and friendly.

Should have waivers online so they can be done in advance and not have to touch the papers and pens.

The tubing was super fun. And my family was happy to have a ride back to the shop. Bus driver was nice and friendly.

Overall good experience. A couple kids on staff just might need a little more coaching on how to deal with customers.

Pete & the staff are wonderful! It's great to have a place to rent river gear when family and friends are in town visiting. (To the guy who gave 1 star because they wouldn't let you tube the river when it was too high/fast, and too cold: They saved your life! A good business owner cares for the lives and safety of their patrons, over making money.) THANKS GUYS!

I can't say enough great things about Backdoor Sports!! I rented a 16 oarboat from Backdoor Sports a few weeks ago for a 4-day trip through the Gates of Lodore. Before the trip, I called all around Colorado and Utah looking for an oarboat and setup for a multi-day trip and all the companies either lacked the equipment we needed or their prices were outrageous. I finally called Backdoor Sports and they had everything I needed at amazing prices, with unbeatable customer service. Not only were they easy to work with and communicative, but the owner and employees (Peter, Mike, and Willie) were all extremely helpful and friendly, and we re very flexible with pickup and drop off times, as well. Great dudes, great customer service, great prices!

We were in Steamboat just a few days ago and my four year old scraped his knee right by Backdoor Sports. I didn't have a bandaid on me, and the employees there were kind enough to give me one for my son. It was a small act of kindness, but one that I really appreciate.

We had a wonderful experience with Back Door Sports. Peter was very friendly and helped us with every detail. Even when we overshot the Exit point, we were picked up down the road, with a smile and a joke. We will definitely take another tubing adventure with Back Door Sports!

I called to see if they were open on the 4th for tubing and if we needed a reservation. Peter gave me a lecture over the phone about not coming downtown and to go on a hike etc during a pandemic. Dude, if you dont want the business, you should have just closed for the 4th. Definitely left a bad taste in my mouth for this company. If you are too busy to accept customers, just say that....save the lecture.

My business was refused because the river that this business is located on was apparently too fast and cold. I have rented from this business before and had a great expierence. Sadly that will not be happening again. Best of luck turning away local business.

I'm sure this place is great during regular non-holidays, but on 4th of July its a mess. When it's busy, you'll have to elbow your way to a truck that brings the rafts back and yank rafts from others like it was a Red Cross relief truck in Somalia. They have don't have system for distributing rafts to those who've wait patiently (withy the exception of 'kids first'). Might I suggest a line or anything!

It was infuriating to have waited 30 minutes only to battle a snarky intoxicated chick who had just arrived for their next ride while Backdoor looks the other way.

Also there's no way to prove you've paid for a raft, so anyone could just hop in and snag a raft.

This is my review of the business, not the river. Of course the river is amazing, but Backdoor didn't think it through. I'm sure they got an earful from more than just me today.

Our church group of about 70 came tubing on July 3 - a very busy day for the whole town. Back Door got us through seamlessly and I heard good reports from everyone. There are other places in town but these guys are hands down the best. Very professional, knowledgable, and dependable.

Peter and his staff did an amazing job helping me find a great fitting telemark boot! I couldn't be more impressed by their professionalism and devotion to making things perfect. There is a tremendous energy and soul in this little shop and I feel fortunate to have stumbled upon it. There is a warmth here that is the real deal.

Backdoor has the outdoor toys and the casual, helpful approach to help you gear up for your adventures. Pete set me onto the sweet Homegrown Touring skis from Steamboat Springs' own Harvest ski company. I'll be enjoying the snow going both up and down the mountains!

Love the attitude of this place! I can see how at times they're busy. If you hit at a right time or call ahead, you'll be in store for a great experience. My whole family went tubing and the staff at Backdoor Sports was extremely friendly and even entertaining. It felt like going out for a day of fun with your extended family. My son, daughter, wife and I all loved our experience and would recommend Backdoor Sports to anyone who is in the area looking for a great, relaxing time going down the Yampa River. The only sad part is when we went, the water was really low in the river and for a big guy like me, I needed to keep moving off the rocks. Nobody's fault but mine :)

So my tent suffered a large tear after a traumatic incident in a pond in Minnesota. After the manufacturer of the tent refused to repair the tent and then had me jump thru hoops to retrieve it, I was glumly wandering the streets of Steamboat Springs wondering what I was gonna do. My sweet little home (for the duration of my cross country road trip)...so sad!

And then I happened on the magical oasis that is Backdoor Sports. Situated on the stunning Yampa River in a very cool building that half houses a bike shop with the sports shop at the back. The place is so welcoming and feels so cared for and lived in! The moment I walked in, Willy warmly welcomed me and lent his ear as I explained my plight. IMMEDIATELY he was like I have this great stuff that I think will work . He recommended this amazing skin-like tape and explained that it s helped him out many times on punctured rafts but that it can be used for just about anything.

Well, it seemed to me like it would work - imagine that! A thoughtful solution in the blink of an eye! We ended up chatting about this repair project he was working on, he answered a ton of questions, recommended a campsite and hot springs for the evening snd just generally turned a terrible, aimless, hopeless feeling couple of weeks around in a matter of minutes. I really cannot stress how much kind and easygoing he was - the whole transaction was smooth and set me at ease.

This may seem dramatique for a bit of repair tape but, being without my beloved tent made it tough to continue my trip. Instead of having to call it quits or sink a bunch of money into new equipment, I found solace in the gorgeous mountaintop campsite that Willy recommended and played tent surgeon! The stuff worked like a charm and I ve been smooth sailing since!! Have camped in wind, rain and snow and haven t had a single issue. The tape of flexible and seals tight. So much gratitude to Willy. Thank you for a wonderful recommendation and also for just being so kind.

This seemingly tiny building is packed to the brim with all the gear you could ever need. Mountain biking, backcountry skiing, kayaking, climbing, and even some camping gear. Willy was great, gave me some tips for fatbike trails and beginner backcountry skiing spots nearby. Definitely worth stopping in!

We called ahead and booked reservations. When we arrived we had to wait in the same line as those who didn t have reservations. We stood in line for 40 minutes or so. The staff seemed overwhelmed. It would be really helpful if they had the activity release online so people could sign and submit it ahead of time. But it was great to have a shuttle take us back to the shop after we tubed down the river. In hind sight, I wouldn t wait 40 minutes to tube.
