I got a decent price on my car for sure, but I was misinformed by them about whether or not cruise would be included with a base model (which it actually isn't) and they were rather unhelpful once I had agreed to buy, ignoring some questions that I sent in an email the day after I bought the car (about cruise). Service area seems pretty great 4 visits since I bought my car this summer for standard maintenance), and I have been treated well there every time.

I left a message for Jaime about my need for an appointment and it was set up for the next day. Chris took care of me when I arrived, keeping me informed. I could not have asked for better service.
Drove up from Dubuque and worked with the assistant sales manager whom was somewhat familiar with the vehicle. It was preowned so I will give her the benefit of the doubt. She took good care of us and was very eager to get us to buy as we were ready to purchase that day. However, the negotiations didn't go so well and we had to part at $700 difference. We came up 2x and the dealership came down once. We even agreed to come up and meet halfway but nothing else could be done. We hope to come back this week and finalize something as she is willing to get a few extra's done for us. Overall she worked very hard without being pushy or negative.
My only drawback is that we felt very uncomfortable in the used lot office. I've always purchased new vehicles and even some used but never had to sit in a cubicle. When we come back we hope to ask that we finalize the deal on the main lot. It makes a big difference as we left to stand outside immediately while we waited.
I sent a friend over as a referall to buy a tacoma at smart, justin jackson the sales manager told us to buy it from a toyota dealership in Milwaukee and refused to even give us numbers. So that's where my friend ended up going. If you want a deal on a toyota do what justin jackson at smart toyota said to do. Drive to Milwaukee!!

Excellent experience with only one flaw, the tech supervisor was not aware of what maintenance request was being signaled by my blinking green AC switch lamp located on my 2002 V6 Highlander center dashboard. He did offer to set up an appointment for me to get the AC blinking green indicator analyzed.
All other inspections, service, and courtesy were exceptional.
I brought my new CHR in for it's routine maintenance check today. There was a miscommunication when the appointment was made, which was a bit offputting. Austin Frye, in sales, not only made me feel validated but gave me a lovely discount on my final bill. From the very cordial gentleman who brought me in, to the very helpful assistant with the lovely nails, an experience that could have been awful turned into a positive one. I highly recommend Smart Motors on Odana Road for their superior service.

The review that says they don't want to sell a truck, I think they don't want to sell any car on their lot, unless you are willing to pay sticker price!!!! If you want to SAVE TIME AND MONEY, go to the other dealership in Madison! Smart quoted me the highest price and didn't want to sell us the car at the end. Very fishy people who work there ! I was told they could beat the price, then a few minutes later I was informed they couldn't do business with me. I also did not like that they were trying to convince me to not buy from another dealership because the cars on their lot might have RODENT damage for sitting out so long ! What about the cars at SMART Toyota that have been sitting out for long? They must have rodent damage too for sitting out long!!! Hah!!! Wish I could give 0 stars!!!! Again, save yourself time and money and go to the other dealership in Madison !
I have taken my car to Smart Motors Toyota several times. The first time was for maintenance, which was satisfactory. The second time, I had a taillight out, so I took it to their express service and was told that it was an electrical issue, so I had to make an appointment at their main service center. When I took it to them, they said that everything looked fine and the light was fine. Fast forward a couple of weeks and I was told by a friend that they noticed both of my taillights were out. I took it back to the main service center only to be told that the bulbs were burned out. There were no electrical issues and they weren't quite sure how anyone missed that the first two times that I took it in. While I'm relieved that it was all sorted out, three visits seems excessive to simply replace burned out lightbulbs.
Very helpful and patient. Didnt try to over sell me anything I recommend working with Tim Nugent. As a first time car buyer I'm very satisfied with my purchase and the people that work there.
The experience I had at Smart Motors was second to none. From the moment I walked through the front door until driving off the parking lot the staff at Smart Motors were warm, welcoming and knowledgeable. And having a profession in the hospitality industry I know great customer service when I see it, well Andy Goepfert and Mike Kluvia are first class and the folks at Smart Motors clearly get it because I have never seen anything like it. Ultimately they put me in a 4Runner that I can cruise in for years and when I am ready for my next vehicle I will be getting ahold of Andy Goepfert.

I feel compelled to write a review about my service at Smart Motors. A couple of months a go, I took my Sienna in because the check engine light came on. After paying my $150 warranty deductible, I was told that I had some dirty gas that was causing a misfire in one of my cylinders. Well, three weeks a go, the check engine light came back on. This time after having my van for two and a half weeks (they didn't even offer me a loaner), I paid another $150 to have them replace all the spark plugs (vehicle is only 3.5 years old) rotated the coils and replace a faulty gasket... only to have the check engine light come back on again tonight after having my van back for three days. I guess all be w/o a vehicle for another two and a half weeks. I am beyond frustrated with Smart Motors, as well as Toyota Motor Company. A 3.5 year old vehicle should not be giving me this much %^&* trouble.

This was our first time going to Smart Motors Toyota, though we have had 4 Toyota's already. Smart Motors was great to deal with. Everyone was nice and made sure that we had a good buying experience. Allen Franklin was our salesman. We strongly recommend him. He answered all our questions and made is feel comfortable. We feel we got a fair offer on our trade-in and that we received a fair price on the new car. If you are interested we bought a 2019 Prius. The second one we have ever owned.

Brought my 2014 Toyota Sequoia with 20,000 miles in for oil change. I asked the technician about the warning light in dash? He said it was air bag warning light malfunction? He had the service shop come take a look. I was then told even though car is under warranty it may not be covered? Wow air bag warning light for malfunction not covered by warranty!!! That's absolutely insane. I was told a $125 diagnostic charge is my responsibility to have it looked at. If Smart Motors decides its not a covered mal-function then I am responsible for repair. They seemed more concerned about me paying the $125.00 repair diagnostic charge than the safety of air bag working properly. I called Toyota customer care and got the same two headed run around. In any event it will be a cold day in _ _ _ _ before I return to Smart Motors service and a LIFETIME OF NOT BUYING ANOTHER TOYOTA PRODUCT. You can tell a bunch about a car company when they try to dodge a safety item such as an air bag!!!! Remember the vehicle has a 36 month warranty to 36,000 miles. This is a 2014 Sequoia with 20,000 miles on it!!! Tom Howard Madison, Wi.
I have taken my 2010 Corolla to the Smart Motors Express Lube several times over the last couple of years. The service personnel are always courteous and pleasant. If during the oil change/inspection, a part such as an air filter will need to be replaced, the technician will calmly explain why it needs to be replaced, what it will cost, and let me make the decision. I really appreciate that. The spotless waiting lounge has free Wi-Fi so I can continue to work and the healthy snacks are really nice. The complimentary laser car wash is awesome. Bottom line: Superior customer service.

Our salesman seemed quite professional. He communicated promptly with me. I was hoping to negotiate the price he had given me as I always do when buying a car. He refused to budge saying he had given me the best price to start with. Doubtful. I guess this was my fault by being too excited about this particular vehicle and he had a good sense that I would not walk away. I was somewhat disappointed that he was reluctant to come in on his day off, but that was the only time I was available to drive to Madison from an hour away and before the end of the month when the rebates may have expired.
If I was to rate my experience from the emails back and fourth with the internet sales team it would have been lower so half my rating was for the internet sales team skimming emails when I was very specific in what I was asking a price for and they ended up quoting me a price in writing and not giving me that price because they were talking about a different car which I clearly stated which car in the email! But when I went to the dealership Mike Finkel was very helpful as well as Justin the sales manager and Justin in financing! They did a great job helping even though I was not impressed with the internet sales! I was to a point where I thought I just wasn't suppose to have anything new for the fact this was the third dealership to mess up on pricing!
But in the end it was a good experience!

It wasn't terrible, but it was definitely the weirdest experience I had shopping for a car (so maybe they should get 3 stars?). It seemed like they didn't want to sell me the car (even though I have excellent credit and I didn't haggle them about the price). The sales rep didn't really show me much about the car even when I asked questions about it. He wasn't helpful and I felt dumb asking where things were or how things operate. He just "told" me instead of "showed" me. When I expressed some concerns about the car and wanted to check it out again, he just gave me the keys and told me to go outside and look at it myself. It would have been nice if he came along and showed me because I had questions and they weren't adequately answered when I went back inside and asked. Because of a rebate I was applying for, they told me I had to wait for a response before I could get the car (even though my brother didn't have to when he applied for the same one last year). It wasn't until the third business day when I told them I'd be reconsidering a different car if I didn't hear back by the end of the day that he finally called me back five minutes later that I was approved for the rebate. One positive thing about them appearing to not want to sell me the car was they didn't pester me about the extras for the car. If it weren't for the better price and financing options (compared to the other cars I was considering), I wouldn't have gone with this dealer.

I have been going to Smart Motors for a little over a year now for regular service on my Toyota. Generally, everything is very smooth and I am in and out in about an hour. On one occasion, I scheduled an appointment for the afternoon and showed up on time. However, my keys, car and/or paperwork got lost in the mix and no one ever brought my car up and therefore no one notified me that my car was ready. To be fair, I had my computer with me and hadn't really noticed that 2-3 hours had slipped by (they have complimentary food and beverage along with TV and wi-fi so longer waits are pretty comfortable). They started to close up (which is why I noticed something was amiss) and I went to the desk only to see that those employees had already left! I had to catch some Smart Motors Sales employees who were on their way out. Unfortunately, they did not have direct/quick access to my key/car/paper work (not their department), but they were very helpful and were eventually able to get my stuff and help me on my way. They were very apologetic and I wasn't all that annoyed, but I am pretty easy going so if you are worried about such a thing happening to you, you might consider checking on the status of your car after an hour or so.
There was another time that I had to get a replacement side mirror and I am pretty sure that the parts employee I was connected to kept hanging up on me... like 3 or 4 times! Maybe he was having a bad day. Anyway I eventually just had the front desk take down my info and have someone call me back. They apologized and said they were having trouble with their phone lines (I didn't really buy the excuse but I guess it is possible). They promptly called me (not the particular person that I suspect of having a itchy hangup finger) and they were very helpful and nice.
I still go here regularly because, like I said, it is usually great/friendly service.
TL;DR - I have had a couple poor experiences, but I still go because other than those particular occurrences the service is great. Also, free snacks/beverages and wi-fi in waiting room can make long waits very comfortable.
Everyone was very attentive and patient with all of my questions. I asked to work with a female salesperson and was gladly referred to Jessica, who was patient and informative. She kept me in the loop about other options and answered all of my questions. I felt heard and had a much better experience than at East Madison Toyota. Highly recommended.

I recently took in our Toyota Rav 4 for its 40,000 mile check-up. Scheduled it online, which was very easy. The service tech, Scott L was efficient and friendly. It took a little longer than I thought it was going to, (almost 2 hours), but its a pleasant place to wait and the snacks are always appreciated. Plus,the car wash was a really nice touch Thanks!

Service department is terrible, sales side is great. We purchased a Toyota Highlander and the buying experience was great. As soon as warranty was out on the vehicle the service department definitely tried to take advantage of us. After 40,000 miles we needed new brakes already, we ended up going somewhere else for half the price that smart quoted us. We now have over 40,000 miles on the second set of brakes and they are still 50%, this goes to say that the factory brakes are terrible. We recently took it in for an oil change and were told that the tire pressure gauge was on because there was a nail in the front tire and it was not fixable, we needed to replace the tires. I decided to take it somewhere else to get a second opinion, the spare tire was low on air which was causing the light to go on, there was a small tack in one tire that didn t even go through the tread. No repair necessary. There have definitely been more things that have happened and I m not gonna go in any more details, you got the picture. If you buy a new vehicle from them, I would advise going somewhere else for service after it s out of warranty.

I have had mixed experience here. Friendly service, no complaints about repairs or maintenance care, and reasonable wait times. Plus, my kids enjoy the fish tank and children's area.
However, when it comes to servicing recalls, we have had multiple problems. It took them over a year to get our van serviced. We were put on a waiting list and then they never got back to us, which meant that we had a tire in our trunk for over a year. When I called they said that they didn't have us on their list.
Now this has happened again! We have been waiting 6 months to have our car repaired. This means we have not been able to safely have a passenger in our front seat. When I called today about it, we yet again have been mysteriously taken off the waiting list. They put us on another one, which means I am going to have to start hounding them or be forgotten for a third time.
So, great service when you can get it, but if you get put on a waiting list, check with them often!

Every staff member that we talked with was friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend them whether you're buying new or used. We've bought a used vehicle a few years ago and the experience was the same; wonderful!
I had a wonderful experience buying a car at Smart Toyota. Wes was very patient and did not make me feel rushed when I tried out multiple cars (and some cars several times). I never felt pressured to make a purchase, just supported and well-informed about the different options available to me. The purchase process was very easy and smooth. Such a horrible experience in buying a car. I have bought many cars and this dealer is the epitome of shady used car sales. I looked at Prius V due to the price hanging from the rearview mirror. When the salesman Chris C came out he said, oh that is not the correct price and told me it was $6000 more. I did not buy because I wanted to think about it longer since the price was drastically different. I went back a week later and the car was still there with the adjusted price in it. I asked if they could go a little lower on the price. He asked me to sign the quote if I bought it that day. I did. He came back and he did not go as low as I wanted but was close. I decided to go with the car. He put all the papers together and gave my paperwork to the finance guy, Stratos. I told them I didn't have the title for my car but that I could bring it in. Stratos said that was fine, it wouldn't make a difference. I could take home the Prius and leave my trade in there. I brought the title at 9am the next morning. IT ACTUALLY DID MAKE A DIFFERENCE. I looked at my paperwork and they did not include the trade so I was charged tax on the entire transaction over $900 more, not the tax that they quoted me. They also did not sell me for the agreed on price. When I went back in to question this, ironically, no one could find the quote that I signed. It miraculously has disappeared. When questioning the tax they said it was because I didn't have the title. We asked to speak to the manager, TJ, and he wouldn't meet with us. Instead, they said Statos out that said he works a lot of deals and we got a good deal. He said that the quoted price was also not given since I didn't have the title when I did the paperwork. Again, IT ACTUALLY DID MAKE A DIFFERENCE. It was a loss of over $1400. He said that they did the paperwork right away to secure the car for me. It had already sat for over a week. Instead of telling me that they were changing everything, they proceeded with the paperwork without telling me. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Go to the other Toyota dealership in town or somewhere else altogether.
For great service, seek out Mike Finkel; he's an all-around great guy to work with for a new car purchase.

My parents recommended Smart Toyota to me, because I needed a new car asap and the service was great when they bought their brand new Toyota Tundra in 2007! The experience I had at Smart Toyota was the best compared to any dealership I've ever went to, hands down. I just bought a 2009 Toyota Corolla LE, early December 2012 -- Thanks to the help of Jennifer Visser and Tyler Nadelhoffer at Smart Budget!
The same week that I bought the car, the ABS, BRAKE and VSC lights came on and immediately I contacted Tyler and he responded quickly. The mechanic from Smart contacted me the same day, made an appointment, took my car in and everything was fixed. They explained the details and my car was back to normal and I'm driving it again. The service was awesome, I love my new ride! It was nice to know that Tyler, on behalf of Smart made sure to follow up to see if there was any more problems and that I can always give them a call if ever I have any questions.
P.S. I thought it was thoughtful of Toyota to email me just to say Happy Birthday and that they hope I'm enjoying my new car!
Definitely like the immediate response and great info when I stopped at express for assessment of battery problem. Replacement of battery happened in record time! Always receive same top quality service at Smart Motors. One must pay for quality service but it's worth it to me.
The sales person did an excellent job under difficult circumstances. A huge sale was going on and we had to buy a truck on no notice. He was juggling lots of customers but never dropped a ball.

We have purchased three new vehicles in four years from Smart Motors. We also just purchased our lease 4Runner from Smsrt Motors. Our experience has alwsys been top notch from all the departments. We buy and service our vehicles at Smart Motors because of one person, Greg Erzen, the Used Car Manager. He listens, I mean really listens. He is very patient and works on all the details. He has always given us top level assistance along with a fair deal for all parties involved. Go see Greg now!
Overall I think our experience at Smart Motors was excellent. Our salesperson, Al Franklin, was wonderful - he answered all our questions and made sure we were comfortable with pricing, features, etc. of our 2021 Toyota Highlander. Only downside was the pressure from the finance side to purchase additional warranties and protections, I can understand not wanting to take a no but when a decision is made please let it go. I still rate at 5 star because of the excellent overall experience we had.
The folks at Smart Motors were awesome. We came in on a Saturday and worked with Javier and picked up our new vehicle the following Saturday. He is extremely friendly and knowledgeable and we felt very comfortable buying a vehicle from him. We will definitely be buying future vehicles there. I feel very fortunate that Mario helped me to find just the perfect car, a '18 Camry-hybrid. He and John then gave me a thorough explanation of all the "bells and whistles" on this particular vehicle...and I was told to return as often as need be to clarify those things that I might forget.

I just left Smart Motors Madison after meeting with TJ. I am absolutely pleased with the level of customer service I received. I've leased a 2014 Tundra Limited since April 2014, owning the vehicle a little less than a year now. Within that time the vehicle's performance was exactly as I expected, superb. Some of the upgrades and gadgets have been faulty, however. I've been into the service department more than I felt like I should have been. I was unhappy. I expressed my concerns and the options TJ offered were more generous than I ever expected. I am blown away that Smart is willing to go above and beyond to make sure our family is happy. What's more, now I am confident that it's more than just my sales-person (Allen Franklin) that I can trust. I came to Smart and have stayed with Smart because of Allen Franklin and the attention he gives me. However, now I feel very secure that Smart, as a whole, will stand behind their vehicles and go the extra mile for their customers. I look forward to Smart Motors serving me and my family for the years to come. Really couldn't be any more impressed by the outcome of their response to my concerns! Thanks TJ and Allen Franklin!

Smart Motors is only place I take my Toyota in Madison, and I'm very happy with the work that they do! The Express Lube is very convenient for oil changes. I love the snacks in the waiting area (popcorn, apples, juice, etc.), and I appreciate the free shuttle/cab service they offer to take me to and from work on day-long car appointments.
My wife and I bought a 2019 RAV4 at Smart Motors. Mike Finkel was the primary sales person that we worked with throughout. He was helpful and exceptionally patient with us during the process and would happily work with him and would strongly recommend him to others.
Always above and beyond the scope of any other car dealership that I have ever worked with. I always recommend this dealership to all my family,friends and clients. Revising my view of Smart Toyota
I am appalled by the fact that Smart Toyota wanted to take advantage of my daughter and telling her that she needed a "Brake fluid " change to her car at a cost of $180.00!!! Anything to make a buck!!! Attempting to take advantage of a woman who may or may not know everything about mechanics of a vehicle. It's a good thing she knew enough to get real advice from her father. I will not recommend Smart Toyota to anyone if this is how they operate!!!
I am most pleased to work with Smart Toyota. They continually prove to me that you get what you pay for when it comes to truly maintaining ones vehicle. The Smart techs are straight forward and generally know their Toyotas: my philosopy of Toyota Techs working on Toyotas with Toyota tools and 100% Toyota knowledge... no brainer. I recently purchased an 08 Matrix from the Budget lot and decided to purchase the car primarily because it was indeed a one owner, smart maintained vehicle with 70K... I knew this would be a smart choice. A couple of dings but the mechanicals are spot on super perfect. Nice little ride getting 30 MPG city! Smart is the way to go and I am excited to see the new expansion as I am about to put my winter Nokians on the Matrix! Nokian. Google it.
