Scammers! Charging extra for scratch under the car and in places impossible to spot when picking up the car. In my case the staff even told me that the car is new so that I sign the damage document at easy. When returning the car the staff inspected the car multiply times and charged me 200 Euros for a scratch which was not possible to see, only checking under the car. I only drove this car on the high way so was impossible to damage it. Don t rent with them!!!

WARNING! I can only advice against! We had to conclude the contract twice, otherwise we could not pay the caution. It was promised, that we receive the money back. Also we are still waiting for the caution, from September. Despite the fact that we had an insurance. After the trip, we tried to contact Sixt in Lisboa, but nobody was responsible for this Type of Problem and so nobody could help us or give us the money back!

I picked up a premium car on Thursday at the Sixt Center location. I was told I could bring the car back anytime Sunday as long as it was within 1hour of the dropoff time. Unfortunately, when I bring the car back, the store is closed despite being in working hours. Their website, google maps, and the sign on the store window all say they're open 8 am to 8 pm. But the truth is that they're never there. I tried to call their number and sent an email. But no one replied. Since there was no one to leave the car keys and no self-drop box, I was forced to keep the car one more day.
The day after I took an hour off from work and tried to return the car again. Unfortunately, despite it being at 1.20 pm, no one was there, and I had to return home with the rented car. Unable to drop it off I was forced to keep it for two extra days. When I got home I sent an email and tried to call a couple more times to ask how to get rid of the car, but nobody replied.
Finally, they sent me an email asking for the car to be returned. It was sent within 2 minutes of me being 48hr overdue. I ran there to drop the keys and explain how I tried to return the car twice before and that I had no intention to pay for the extra time. Their reply is that they're running a limited schedule and only accept returns if you call them to schedule. Too bad nobody replies to the phone number provided. They even had prepared images of the security camera to argue how my attempts were 6 minutes over the 1hour policy.
This was clearly a setup. It starts at pickup: they act super chill saying you can return the car whenever. Then, they make it impossible for you to return the car by being closed during official business hours. They perpetuate this by not replying to the phone and emails. It ends when, after they extracted a couple more days of forced rental fees, they get in touch with you to ask for the return.
It's just horrible when businesses prey on individual consumers. Clearly, I don't have the resources to pursue legal action also because I don't speak the local language.
I am editing my review with an update that Sixt charged my credit card with extra 400 as damage compensation although we had 100% insurance. Cheats! I will be taking this up with the company Sixt.
While our interaction here was satisfactory, the staff was professional and friendly, after two weeks of our rental, we get an email claiming we are liable to pay for a damage to the car which was already there at the time of pick-up in Lisbon and the employee here had satisfied us that since we have the FULL insurance, we are covered for everything so we don't need to worry.
This kind of sleaziness is exactly what undermines good experiences. I fail to understand this. Never again Sixt. I'm done.
If you are looking at renting a car with Sixt in Portugal, take a dozen videos and photos of the car at the time of pick-up so you can justify exactly what condition it is in. Maybe get a video and audio with the staff. You just never know what they'll try to make you pay for later.

I also see in the other reviews that many other customers have complained about EXACTLY THIS PROBLEM. Why are you cheating us Sixt? I've rented from other branches in different countries in Europe BUT never had such experiences. Maybe the Sixt Management needs to look into the working of their branches in Portugal. Clearly something is going wrong there.
Wish I could give 0 stars. We asked for full insurance and the staff were super friendly and all was OK. We returned with a mark at the front of the car, and they said insurance covered it. After a few weeks we got a bill on around 800. Apparently they hadn t given us full insurance on paper. So sketchy, do not rent your car here!
My entire experience was fantastic. The manager messaged me a couple days before so we could coordinate a pick up time (due to confinement rules during Covid) and I didn t have to wait when picking up my car. I was able to add my information online before saving even more time with pick-up. Every team member was professional and extremely friendly. The car itself was clean and exactly what I expected. Drop off was easy too and completed very quickly. I will definitely be using Sixt Lisbon Centre again.

Extra charges on pickup, they demanded 100 extra because I used my credit card and not my wife's even though its the same account and said I would lose entire amount if I canceled and made a new booking. They said "it happens all the time" so its a known issue but refuse to do anything about it. Typical of cheap car hire places, avoid them and use a more reputable company. Have hired several cars since then with Hertz and had no problems,will never use Sixt again.
Worst place to rent a car. I wish I had a 0 star given the attitude of the agent I interacted with. The car by itself was good; Return facility at Faro was good. But, pickup location experience is TERRIBLE I rented from LISBON and was to return the car at Faro city. I canceled my reservation with my regular agency (I'm frequent traveler) because I they had only FARO airport return while Sixt, at the time of booking, allowed me to return at Faro CITY. While taking the car, the agent told me that their Faro city location is permanently closed and that I have to return at Faro airport. I protested that "You should not have let me book it at all then. I wouldn't have canceled my reservation with the other agency". His response was more like "Take it or leave it". I even gave options - a) Can you provide some discount to offset the taxi charges I will incur at Faro? b) Can you have someone pick the car up from where I stay in Faro? He flat out refused and said - "This is our offer. If you don't want to go to Faro airport, don't take this car" They did not even have the courtesy to offer a gift voucher for the inconvenience.
