Great university. Really impressed by the facilities and area.
Great social distancing and cleaning provisions set up for covid safety
Despite what most people say - it's a really good university!
Great uni. Really good course options with placements to help find work after university.
I was considering changing from the University of Sheffield for Hallam due to the course seeming more interesting but after waiting 2 months for any kind of respinse after sending over 10 emails and speaking with 2 different people promising to respond and then finally getting responses such as: " I cant help you with that" or other unhelpful responses I decided this university was not for me. Anything and everything seemed impossible and not for just one peson but for about 5 different people that I spoke with. After my shocking experience I decided to sta with the university that answers my emails and supports me with information that I need.
Would not reccomend.
I'm here for the summer top up program. It's a thousand times better than our college back in Malaysia.

Very Nice University. I really enjoy my degree there
Good university with lots of opportunities. Sadly I will not be attending again. Great facilities and near to beautiful contryside with lots of interesting wildlife and geographical features.
great experience, first time visits here from Malaysia.
Quality of lectures is terrible. I would avoid if you have other options.
Is this place good to complete automation, control and robotics for MSc ???
And will we get placed after masters???
Pls someone answer to my questions

Lots going on. Access monitored and signs how to get around.
A crappy university. Bad lectures. Faculty staff couldn't really care less about the quality of education you're getting. No motivation whatsoever and you feel like they're only there to take your money and let you be off. Terrible two years.
They are quite receptive and willing to lend a hand always.
Sheffield Hallam University is a wonderful university in terms of what they offer for students, as well as the buildings. The teachers are normally nice and helpful and give back feedback on submitted work. However, sometimes the teachers and teaching can be sub-par. But it depends on the teacher. The vast majority of the teachers are highly knowledgeable in their and similar fields. I d recommend Sheffield Hallam University to someone looking to do a University degree.
Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) is a public research university in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England and one of the UK's largest and most diverse universities. It is based on two sites; the City Campus is located in the city centre near Sheffield railway station, while the Collegiate Crescent Campus is about two miles away in the Broomhall Estate off Ecclesall Road in south-west Sheffield.

Student noise absolutely of the scale from student houses on ecclesall rd. opposite Champs bar! All through lockdown and still continuing.SHU should be ashamed of them
Attended to give a talk and found the staff engaging and the students... Well students lol
I recently visited here on an informal walking tour. I was immediately struck by how beautiful the campus was and the surrounding neighborhood very nice (I had no idea!)
There are some really gorgeous structures on campus and it's located in the middle of a neighborhood, but doesn't overwhelm it, nor detract from it.
When I visited, it was very warm and there were lots of students enjoying the outdoors. I was particularly glad to see an ethnically diverse student population, not something you always find at other universities.
First class Engineering facility and equipment. Some fantastic research happening.

Excellent University. This University Has Been Great With Me Since I Started There, Very Efficient, Good Facilities And Top Standard Of Teaching.
This wonderful school that hands out degrees like hot cakes!
If your not good in school, more interested in partying, or your generally lazy to do school work, but you still are needing to get a degree to get your parents off your back. I would highly recommend this university! You can get away with cheating, scandal, etc. But they will pass you and even honor your "achievements!" Heck, they wont even bat an eye if your previous work sounds nothing like your present work.
I was a freshman in a U.S. community college while I ventured to Sheffield. My venture ended up with me writing the final thesis on management, for someone's final major.
The outcome of my labor...The student not only passed, but they honored the student for writing the best thesis of the graduating class.
And guess what?! (This is the BEST PART) I NEVER in my life had taken a class in business, management, and generally was considered street dumb.
What!?! I know embarrassing to admit... But it's TRUE! The highest class I had taken at the time was English 102.
Best university where you will never have to study, you will never get caught cheating and you will still end up pleasing your parents by getting a degree.
Sooo easy peezie, a College Freshman student can write a final thesis for a Final Year Student. GO SHU!
Amazing campus, all you need in one place, with easy access to shops like tesco and asda. Great useful library!
The teaching team is fair. However, non-academic support for students are really scarce. The student well-being team is hightly understaffed.
When I am asked to mention any universities in England, one appearing in my mind is Sheffield Hallam University.
As University campuses go sheffield is ahead in some respects and behind in others. A lot of old school architecture and thankfully not too much 1970s brutalist design. Surrounded by the hospital and two parks there isn't really that much to do on campus.
I graduated in 2004 and I'm still going strong, no complaints.
This University is Awesome and is situated at the heart of the great city of Sheffield. Literally, 2mins walk from the Sheffield Train Station.
Honestly, after taking the tour of the City Campus by 2 absolutely brilliant guides, unfortunately I can't recall their names (both were 3rd year students; one studying Arts(spent time in Germany) and the other studying Economics and Logistics), showed us the campus and a few tips and tricks to follow for a smooth student life. If there was a rating scheme they would easily get 20/10 . Literally smashed it out the park.
Specifically, I went for Mechanical Engineering. The amount of facilities and support provided by the University is phenomenal. Especially the industrial links that are associated to the University from Rolls Royce to Lockheed Martin UK. They also have great societies that you can join such as their racing team or designing a rocket capable of reaching 100km with a payload. In fact they hold the record for the highest rocket height reached built by University students in the world plus you get to travel to the US to test the rocket out as well.
Overall, I would without doubt recommend aspiring students to come and see Sheffield Hallam University as they have spent tens of millions renovating and improving their facilities. With doubt a smashing and great University .
Love this Uni. Fantastic facilities and staff and a very friendly and safe learning environment. Brilliant
Excellent uni. This uni has been great with me since I started there, very efficient, good facilities and top draw standard of teaching. It literally should be a red brick...
Cantor building has a great gallery full of students work that's switched around every so often
Admin services are all utterly useless and negligent. Teaching is generally very good.
Fantastic university, the buildings look modern and are an fit perfectly into the Sheffield landscape.
The lack of communication at this university is ridiculous, emailed multiple times and rang to get information about a course I was interested in and they didn t get back to me. Appalling.
Pros:
- Very good university in terms of education quality. Lots of active engagement/discussions with Professors during seminar, even during lecture you are free to ask anything which is not quite possible in many other big/popular universities.
- Enthusiastic and supportive staff and faculty staff
- Many many opportunities and activities to help you develop personally and become more employable
- Students from many other nationalities
- Plus, Sheffield is a lovely city with lovely, friendly local people who call you "My Love"!
Cons:
- The only thing downgrades this university is the health centre. It shouldn't even deserve a Star. Don't even understand why they are there and getting paid for what. For doing nothing for students who are in need of help?? I am not saying this based on only my opinion because I heard it from a number of other students (same international students). Extreme example: One of my classmates (international student) had backache for several months. Obviously, the only place she sought help was Health Centre. They did nothing, of course. So she sought help of GP, but they didn't even bother to take an Xray picture of her back, but taught her some exercises! Her situation deteriorated and she had to discontinue her studies since she could not even move now and had to stay in her bed for quite some time. Then she went back to her country only to discover her back was BROKEN!!! Needless to say, spine is very very serious!!
Sheffield Hallam University was affected by a data breach a few month ago and I was involved in this unfortunate event. They said only my personal data have been stolen, and a few months (when the breach has happened) I start receiving a crazy number of fake calls, scammers and frauds calls. They assured me that no sensitive data was stolen (but university couldn t supply any evidence) and I was not informed of any steps they are willing to take to rectify this issue or assuring me that they will monitor the data stolen.
This event affected and still affecting me mentally.
Not a student here but close relationship to someone who currently is and im having to support them with the mental impact of attending a full time course at this uni. So all information in this review is from what they have told me. Quality of education depends on the people in your year. This year has been plagued with people who didnt have the grades to get into hallam but got in by clearing. They dont care about uni and barely turn up so group work is impossible. Head of department is aware of issues raised but is defensive and doesnt do anything to motivate students to turn up and work hard or penalise students for consistent non attendance. Some people on the course are clueless about the basics of their subject so other students are having to teach their peers (for free) instead of being able to focus on themselves. Due to nonexsitent work ethic among much of this year, certain individuals are having to carry groups in their group projects and getting a low grade anyway due to lack of effort and contribution made by their group project partners. The year is strongly divided by cliques which makes group work even harder. Strong culture of taking credit for work that you contributed nothing to. Tutors cant do anythinf about it and the underserving credit takers get better grades than the people who actually did everything. Waste of money and time.
Lovely campus and the faculty is very experienced.. I had beautiful time and earned precious memories.
Many say that Sheffield is their University, and not just any, a great University, spread throughout the city, with many spaces to work and a great atmosphere that welcomes and generates a great international campus.
I met the International Head of the University, Andrew Bromley is a very enthusiastic and energetic person, who participated and got involved in all the activities of the week, something that is a point in his favor because it indicates a great high level of involvement and interest in achieve maximum benefit for all. He lives and it shows that he likes what he does and that makes the difference. I had a meeting with: the library, student delegation (Student Union), the reception unit for the apartments, employability, orientation and pastoral care, the language service. I highlight the workshops on Sheffield and British Culture. I also really liked the workshop on mentoring with students and the employability program. Several of these workshops were attended by students to tell about their experience, which was very interesting, because you hear their own version of living on an international Campus.
I am amazed at the high degree of involvement of the students in the activities of the University. The ease and security with which the students presented their different experiences on Campus never ceased to amaze me. We also had a workshop on the difficulties in understanding language and adapting to different cultures, something very interesting to take into account in the internationalization process.
I am amazed at the amount of effort and resources they put into satisfying and helping students. They are totally 100% focused on their students.
Why are you sending diplomas out second class mail then refusing to re-send replacements?
I did so much for your university: hallam volunteering, student rep, urc council, student volunteering england conferences.
Do you need money that badly!? Really!?
Went for my interview and audition for 'Performance for Stage and Screen'. The staff are great, facilities are very good and I'm really looking forward to starting in September.
Pros - The students' experience has been extremely positive in the 5 years I've studied at Sheffield Hallam. The facilities are top notch and well funded - all labs for engineering are modern and great to use, which applies to all other labs and Hallam buildings in general. The library, help centre and on-site restaurants are great, which couples well with the staff being extremely friendly and helpful (including most lecturers). Some lecturers provide a more perspicuous teaching style than others, but this isn't unique to any individual uni.
Hallam has become the beating heart of Sheffield. It's located close to the city center, train station, accommodations, and all other amenities Sheffield city has to offer - having Tesco, Cosmo, coffee shops, gyms and various restaurants/bars only 2 - 10 minutes walk away.
The students here thrive, and are pushed heavily into being versatile, well-rounded and professional people with excellent abilities/knowledge within their chosen field of study. The university will pick you up from whatever level you're at, without prejudice, and turn you into a professional (so long as you put the work in).
Cons - My main gripe has been the Student Union for the uni which could be improved. Not to say it's awful, but compared to some other universities it's mediocre; a few select areas of the uni need to be expanded on and funded. There are a few courses that seem redundant in light of the bigger ones offered, although with increasing specialisation of some areas of industry, it makes sense.
I would recommend Hallam to anyone looking to get their professional qualifications and enter a massive range of future opportunities - cheers Hallam!
Sidenotes - I've seen a small number of reviews here knocking the uni. They're mostly people who are from other universities/have never attended Sheffield Hallam. The university is held to the same high standards as all other universities in England - there are a lot of hoops to jump through regarding the contents of the course material and how it is examined nationally. Cheating and plagiarism are strictly monitored and WILL land you in hot water. If your work is good, or bad, your grade will reflect it!
Absolutely rubbish, I wouldn t even call this a University. The students are immature small minded morons and the staff are as good as substitute teachers at a high school.
They cancelled my course in June due to a low number of applicants. They did not get around to telling me until September, and only after I emailed them.
That was my university where I spent only 2 months for studying and then, unfortunately, I must go back to my home country for evacuating from the covid19 pandemic, I hope UK will overcome this obstacle and then I can be back ASAP.
Loving my time here. Thankyou SHU you are the best!
