Not a student here but close relationship to someo...

Not a student here but close relationship to someone who currently is and im having to support them with the mental impact of attending a full time course at this uni. So all information in this review is from what they have told me. Quality of education depends on the people in your year. This year has been plagued with people who didnt have the grades to get into hallam but got in by clearing. They dont care about uni and barely turn up so group work is impossible. Head of department is aware of issues raised but is defensive and doesnt do anything to motivate students to turn up and work hard or penalise students for consistent non attendance. Some people on the course are clueless about the basics of their subject so other students are having to teach their peers (for free) instead of being able to focus on themselves. Due to nonexsitent work ethic among much of this year, certain individuals are having to carry groups in their group projects and getting a low grade anyway due to lack of effort and contribution made by their group project partners. The year is strongly divided by cliques which makes group work even harder. Strong culture of taking credit for work that you contributed nothing to. Tutors cant do anythinf about it and the underserving credit takers get better grades than the people who actually did everything. Waste of money and time.
