So much things happening here. Very vibrant and a nice hub for painters
The evening music, holiday lights, seasonal ice rink and next to Powel St. Cable car made for a brief but nice visit.
Many shops in the area and nice place to walk around and enjoy the evening, etc...
Nice place to walk and shop, holiday time is nice too especially if you like to see all the decorations and holiday lights on the business and buildings. They also have a outdoor skating ring and more holiday activities. Plenty of good restaurants and if you want to stop and have a drink bars too
Tourist central, but wonderfully decked out during the holiday season. Enjoy iceskating, pretzels, hot dogs, and window gazing at the lovely holiday window displays.
Union Square is the Time Square of San Francisco and it used to be the luxury shopping center as well. Right now there are so many homeless and other shady people that is very hard to feel proud to bring guests or family to. It's a very real manifestation of "the road to hell is paved with good intentions."
Its a great place for shopping and there is good food on almost every corner.
Big, buzzing and full of life, must for everyone with its heritage cable car and hop-on hop-off open rooftop buses. Awesome for shoppers and food lovers. Excellent park too. Can't go driving, though. Walk or take a cab!
A place to come and chill. You will find plenty of sitting area around and artists displaying their art.
Around the square you have a big Apple store and on the other side Macy's.
There is our favourite Cheesecake factory in the same building as Macy's.
On a good sunny day one can enjoy roaming around the square.
We always enjoy Union Square during the holidays. But I think it's time to change things up. The tree was nice but it's just so packed with people around the skating rink. Not as fun anymore.
Great central hub makes everywhere so accessible great place to make your sf base
Still an awesome place to walk around and through. Live music from time to time, the big Christmas tree during the holidays. Union square is awesome. Would love it more if the homeless situation was better (lots of homeless people wandering around) but it's not their fault they have no shelter. Definitely a must see place.
Very shady with lots of hobos moping around for no apparent reason that I see.
Nice place to stay, go see a play. They can help you with that, the package , which comes with dinner. Always enjoy our stay a nd going to the plays
Amazing at Christmas! So fun, so much to do and see.
Crowded with lots of traffic-disrupting construction running just adjacent to it. A decade of construction and still not done building one stop on one new metro line! Kind of frustrating but if you look at the map carefully you can avoid the worst of the traffic by picking hotels on streets that don't lead into or away from the Geary St/Stockton St intersection area. (check the construction progress online for updates on the worst areas).
Nice shops, good restaurants, cable cars! Just sad to see so many homeless around!
Park in the middle of downtown. Good seating arrangement.
Feel excited to see those century old cable car trams ringing bell going up and down the hills swiftly.. experience it before it is taken out of service.
1 block of cement, smack-dab in the middle of what could have been the most lucrative real estate in the most expensive city in America. Even the richest jerks need more luxury apartments to rent. Bring It On!!!
Such a wonderful place but a conundrum nonetheless.
A square within a circle.
I visited Union Square several times in February 2019 during my visit to San Francisco. It has a column in the center which covers the Battle of Manila Bay during the Spanish-American War. Union Square is surrounded by major department stores and shopping. It is a good orientation point in San Francisco as you plan where you want to go. It is also not far from the beginnning point / end point of the cable car
Lunch in the square on a beautiful day... Can't possibly go wrong!
Nice park but since there's work on one of the sides it ruins a bit of the atmosphere. Small coffee with outside installation makes it a nice place to relax.
To many homeless on the streets made driving difficult (some would just walk in front of the moving traffic), and sidewalks durty.
Always crowded here everyday but it's good area to rest here here. I heard from a friend they have charging stations here. So it should be convenient for anyone who needs a quick charge for their devices.
This is a great placed to visit, place bay views with fresh food and many places to eat. Stayed at Fisherman's worth, area very nice Pierce Golden Gate bridge Alcatraz My center I went to Chinatown very great experience for anyone traveling bucket list must see city.
Nice place during the day. Night time is a whole dif situation.
I've always enjoyed visiting union square when I come to SF. Really loving the new cafes there. The Christmas/Hanukkah decor was beautiful and fun to see.
If you like to people watch, this is a good place to grab food and drink and sit among the artist and visitors to San Francisco!
I lived a block from here and walked through it almost daily. Great place to sit and people watch, grab a bite to eat (expensive, but there are also cheaper places to eat if you look around). Best for shoppers and people watchers. Best time of the year is the holidays when the Christmas tree and ice rink are up. Day or night it's always pretty. There are also events like bands, art shows, etc so check their website. I've stayed in the hotels looking over Union Square and the view is gorgeous. There's also the starlight lounge a block up, where you can view the square from the top of the hotel. Parking is non-existent, so just park in a lot for a hefty price if you're driving. There's a lot under the square. They're building a rail station to stop here, but it's also a nice and short walk from Powell BART station.
A nice city park in the middle other shopping district. Easy access to cable cars and buses.
We had a lovely potter around the Unions Square area. It's a vibrant, active place with lots to do and see, and great fun for people watching. We spent the day shopping, lots of great stores here and had lunch in a great bar, that served excellent cappucinos. We certainly clocked up the steps here. Well worth a looksee and you need a day at least to explore. Lots of everything to see.
A good place to pass your evening, you can catch the tram, shopping and walking around
good place to spend time for shopping and eating... plenty of option..
Great central shopping location. China Town and other tourist locations are nearby.
Nice place to hang out but right now is under construction.
Amazing place in San Francisco. Visited on Christmas day evening and what a nice and big Christmas tree they have in center. Must visit place.
Beautiful place right in the middle of the city. Cable cars go by. Ice skating at Christmas time. Street entertainment. Surrounded by the highest end stores on Earth. Not exactly a quiet, discover nature, sort of place, but still a nice park.
Should be the heart of town but a mix of tourists and homeless people makes for an uncomfortable atmosphere.
Lots of shopping areas nearby. Nice place to chill at on one of the many benches and sit and stare. One of the places nearby is the apple store which we visited. My cousin had to fix his iPhone. The view of the square from here is awesome.
Love San Francisco plus Union Square! Lots of beautiful places to visit. Thank you!
To this day, I can't find anything redeeming about this ugly, yet teeming public space. A concoction of buildings from different eras facing a desolate, mostly barren open space with almost no greenery. Bah, a city like San Francisco would deserve better than this at its heart.
Open square now with cafes and the underground parking. Along with the HEART sculptures at each of the four square entrances (at each corner), did you know you can see (in summer) hummingbirds among the bushes and flowers? Hawks can also be seen soaring high if you look quickly!!
Welcome to the center of SF's downtown. This is where most parade routes will end up, where the city's christmas tree will be erected, and where artist will display with art. Adjacent to the square, you'll find many shops, restaurants, and hotels. Currently there is major construction for subway station extension and parking lot, so beware of traffic and road closures.
Nice Christmas tree. Probably only there around Christmas though.
Have been coming here for years. Love the decorations and the festivities. In reality it's a 5 star but the amount of garbage and how dirty the city has become is quite depressing. Had to rate a 3
A bit dirty. A few hobos walking around. It looked empty
Made up of large department stores, Union Square is a shopper s dream with tonnes of big name brands, outlets and coffee shops. Very busy, with trams and cable cars regularly running through the area. Macys, Bloomingdale s and Nordstrom are possibly the three largest stores. Union Square isn t the best touristy place to visit if you re here to visit San Fransisco, but it is certainly the beating heart of the hustle and bustle of the Downtown area.
The center of commercial San Francisco. Full of life and great for people watching.
Simply lived it. First time visitor n can't waite to go back
Great shopping and food. Love visiting with my wife
Amazing shopping experience. Find anything just walking distance
Nice place to hangout with family and visits if you're not from around there
Even though these are pictures taken in December, you can go wrong at Union Square, plenary of food, coffee and great place for shopping
Christmas in the air:) festive decorations everywhere.. People out sipping cocktails and eating food from the food trucks... Lovely vibe...
It is a square, with some seats to sit and relax. Sometimes there are things happening, like art exhibits, or dancing. Not the biggest square I have visited.
Great subway stop. We went here thinking there was something more but not really. Nearby shopping is all your traditional chains like Macy's etc..
It's definitely a magical place. The homeless and the panhandlers tend to make it a bit uncomfortable but in general, Union Square can be an amazing place to see people, the business of the city, tourists, trolley cars, and much more.
Entertaining and energetic. Some cleaning staff are rude, and the homeless are a problem, but I enjoy being there.
Union square is just a bunch of high-end retail stores, in store-front style, too crowded, parking is a nightmare, its like everything else in SF. Not my cup of tea coming from a state where parking is abundant everywhere and free of charge! The people watching is the best part!
What an amazing time
First time in San Francisco and we had to stop by. We visited for Christmas so Union square was really full but had a chance to see Santa and take pictures with big Christmas tree
This is one of the FEW places left in SF where the homeless have not taken over. Great stores, and a beautiful ice rink at Christmas. The St Francis Hotels is also delightful.
Very touristy, but enjoyable at times. Seems to be overrun with homeless drug addicts and pan handlers. Stay away.
Cool statue. Try and get in early to dodge the crowds.
Nice public square. Very popular with tourists. Upscale shopping, hotels, restraunts and more. Outdoor seating and cafes in square. Often live entertainment or events on weekends. Huge Macy's dept store features prominently. Tiffanys and Apple store are some other standouts in the square. S.F. famous cable cars run alongside.
Great place to visit. Sit and relax and watch people around. The surrounding streets are little narrow. This place is worth to watch with very high raises around.
I have enjoyed installing Macy's Christmas tree every year for the last 16 years our company has done it for 32 I'll be employees from Union Square have been wonderful to us and we've had a good time installing the tree for them
