Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang Resort and Golden Sands Resort Reviews

The hotel is in the close vicinity of the bath firangi beach. One of the coolest beaches in Penang. This hotel is very well maintained but the decor and look have been able to preserve the old looks. The room sizes are big, the rooms are airy and the furniture including the bed is very comfortable. The top floor has a better look into the sea. So ask for a higher floor. The staff is very courteous and friendly and make you feel at home. The bathrooms are also well designed and spacious.

Stay at the resort long time ago but not a good experience.

We arrived at the resort on the 15th of October 2013. The check in process was very easy and well organised. Upon arriving at our room we decided to explore the resort. Upon arrival at one of your swimming pools, we were approached by one of theBar Staff. Without a greeting he asked for our room number, I responded by saying "1501" to which he responded "You cant be in here, this is reserved for people who paid extra money to stay at the Rasa Wing". I was a little bemused buy his statement regarding extra money and asked why. The bar staff member replied " The Rasa Wing rooms are twice the size of the rooms your staying at, if you want to pay extra you can use this pool". I became very frustrated with this staff members rude approach and asked for his name, unfortunately I lost his name in the process of travelling.

We travel to Penang approx twice a year and frequently stay at one of the resorts in Batu Ferringhi. The purpose of this visit was to secure a wedding venue for approx 300 guests. Your resort was recommended to us via Friends and Family.

This encounter with your Bar Staff Member made the decision very easy for us and unfortunately will not return to your Resort.

The most expensive resort in Penang but unless you are super duper rich and stay at their "Rasa Wing" otherwise they won't really care. We have escalated this to the management level but not much happening. All the best to the resort!!

Penang's sweetheart! Love the decor, staff friendliness, neat garden and of course the food. Stayed here more than I can remember but our staycation in May 2020 was unique, it was Ramadhan, huge "sahur" was served in our room, I recalled how one non-kitchen staff took the trouble to attend to our request early in the morning. And how my bike and shoes were meticulously sanitized before check-in. You can expect excellent service on every visit!

It is the best hotel in Penang with good breakfast but little crowded if you don t come early. Very friendly staff with kids and they have afternoon tea in the lounge.

Our second time here and enjoyed it as much as before. Beautiful place with excellent, professional staff who take pride in their work and are always courteous. The choice of food at breakfast is incredible and the dining room is really well set out. Sometimes you have to queue for a few minutes when it's very busy but that's normally only between 9and 10. The grounds are are huge and very well kept and there's always some kind of activity going on. There's a free shuttle bus in to Georgetown which we take advantage of as there's not a great deal to do in Batu Ferringi. Having said that the are some very good affordable restaurants within a 5/10 minutes walk. I also think it's pretty good value for money for somewhere with such good facilities.

No need to talk about Shangri-La restaurant! awesome!

The buffet of the spice market restaurant in Rasa Sayang was exquisite. The lamb tandoori is to die for.

Great place for a semi fancy buffet dinner.

Perfect place to take the in-laws

Poor chexk in amd check out service. I have booked a seaview room upon check in the front desk asked me to pay an upgrade charge, which I have paid during hotel booking. After 15 mins of checking, the guy said ok and gave us the seaview room.
When I checked out, the front desk asked me to pay upgrade charge again and i said No No No, he said they can't find the booking confirmation and need to to pay. This ia absolutely ridiculous, duty manager Vatshyayana is very impolite and screw up the whole holiday mood and he even said he needs to call security.

This is extremely disappointed stay, his handling damaged Shangri la brand and I will nevee stay at this hotel group.

Was here for a friend's wedding, this hotel is old but it's been renovated consistently i guess. the parking is quite a walk from the lobby entrance and it's quite a drive from Georgetown city center.

Friendliest, poshest resort on the island, I'd say.

Very pleasant stay...room was very clean and large bed....House keeping a super job...very friendly hotel...pool lovely and sea hot..

Unfortunately, the buffet was poor value for money. Low quality and poor service too. What a disappointment.

Very beautiful. Next to the sea. Has night market Batu Ferringi on 10 min walking distance. Also food street there too. Got complimentary chocolates at hotel too. Breakfast restaurant at hotel has excellent buffet. Must try buffet.

We stayed there 4 nights and experienced a very nice moment
We had a garden sea view room in the Rasa Sayang wing
The room was very big, convenient and quiet
The staff is so gentle and efficient !
We had a technical problem the first night and a maintenance came immediatly at 2am and fixed the problem
A compact golf course is available just behind the hotel. The 2 swimming pools are big and nice to swim
The breakfast is perfect
The tea time moment is so lovely !
The lounge offers drinks and finger food from 5.30pm: very good !

A perfect hotel for a beach resort hotel. Rasa Wing is recommended for adults only. Services such as drinks in lounge are substantial.

It was a delightful stay. On the night of our check-in, Front-desk staff Jay set the right tone for our stay. He was polite, professional and efficient. Next, Ismail from housekeeping was meticulous and friendly, setting up a lovely bed for our young daughter on the sofa bed.

The hotel staff demonstrated outstanding hospitality, when they noticed my son's birthday from his passport, and prepared a surprise birthday cake for him during our stay. What a pleasant surprise.

Overall a 5-star experience from a 5-stay hotel team. Thank you!!

Had dinner. Was good. But they'll charge you the fresh fruit juices.

it is a very nice hotel close to the beach and the facilities are awesome with very nice breakfast available and the staff are always happy, smiling and polite. the rooms are very clean and spacious with a free mini bar provided to start your stay. There is also a daily two hour period where you are able to drink unlimited cocktails and evening tea with snacks is also free of charge. the resort area where you can ask for a massage, is very clean and full of shades and nice pools.

A good resort that requires a lot more from the management.

It could have been better. The exclusivity that you are trying to promote should not be marred by the quality of food and ambience which we felt was what happened in Shangri La Penang. We upgraded to rasa wing in hopes to have the same wonderful experience during our stay in Shang gri La Rasa Ria (Ocean wing) but the lack of food quality and selection especially for breakfast and the non enforcement of ambience shows that not one Shangri La is the same.

What a beautiful hotel wonderful location to unwind from work The staff from the ground's men to manager terrific couldn't do enough to make our stay as comfortable as possible, It felt like one big family, Food out standing and excellent value for money, We have been there twice now and will definitely go again.Highly recommended.

Very comfortable hotel, close to Georgetown, with quality services, 3 restaurants, and direct access to the beach. The meals are good, especially at the restaurant Ferragi, where the correct dress is required (pants and shirt for men, no Bermuda shorts, and outfit for women, the restaurant reserved for people over 7 years old), with private rooms.

The resort is huge with playing area for kids, pools and many other facilities. A bit quiet in the evening

We stayed in the garden wing (cheaper). Although guests have access to both wings, they have to use separate swimming pools and restaurants. Our bedroom was spacious and the bed was comfortable. We had all the necessary amenities in the room, including two big bottles of water every day.
The housekeeping staff were particularly friendly.
The building shows signs of age although it s well kept. The swimming pool is nice but the resort was quite crowded during our stay. It s still a nice resort, with impeccable common areas but it does show signs of wear and tear.
The breakfast buffet can seem impressive at first, but the vegan options are very limited. Staff apologized for that, but given the increasing number of vegetarians / vegans, it makes sense to add more options.

OMG I think this is the most beautiful place I have ever seen. Everything is just perfect the rooms the service the food. Definitely I recommend it to anyone. It worth every penny

one of the best hotel i have ever visited and stayed. everything is impeccable: service, hygiene, cleanliness, food, entertainment ..
You can stay for days without leaving the hotel because everything is there and you have absolutely no need to go out except for personal business. He deserves 7 stars. I will probably return.

Great hotel...is 5 star...had issues in shower for 2days where shower area filled up with water. Staff are friendly but cannot do much with out a manager...i mean literally nothing with his/her say so.

I ate lunch here and found the environment was nice and the staff here provided good service.

Highly recommended stay while in Penang. Lots of family activities programmes the hotel planned. Just have to sign up in advance.

I have been to the Shangri-La s Rasa Wing a few times now. It is the perfect place to relax in a great atmosphere. Perfect service, food and other service which make you forget time...
