Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, Bangkok, Thailand. Review

Mold and Mildew. Stayed 4 nights starting April 10, 2018 and was given the 13th floor which is infested with mold or mildew smell. Saw construction panels hidden on that floor as if they were fixing a water leak. Mold is cancerous. If we were White guests we would probably be given a cleaner smelling floor. Practice falls under Thailand s widely common racism from Thai people towards everyone who isn t White or foreign Korean or Chinese. If you are another brown person you will get 2nd class treatment. Some staff are nice to everyone but Tour Desk was mocking my question about Boat ride safety and laughing at me. Would he laugh at me if I was White? No. Hotel is nicely designed but lobby bathroom has no A/C and feels hot inside lobby toilet area. For a 5 star hotel it s located in a complete poor ghetto. Bathroom inside rooms give only 2 towels. Where are 2 western double beds? Only small twin beds. If 3 adults pay a big extra person charge. Breakfast to room order is overly expensive for Thailand. $16 US Dollars for 1 omlett? 1 hour massage $90 American dollars? It s not the NYC or London, it s Bangkok, should be much cheaper. Even for a 5 star hotel located next to falling apart buildings and dirty roads with a zoo of power lines. Next email is to CEO and Board of Directors about above. I was quiet and let above issues go during my stay but you laughed and mocked the wrong hotel guest. 50% refund requested for all 4 nights for above grievances. If declined, get ready for every travel website to be flooded with above review on a weekly basis.

Just called to leave message for guests and then got my call transferred by operator to reception in order to request breakfast boxes. Had to repeat whole conversation again. Can you just make everything one-stop service like other 5-star hotels?

every detail of the hotel was terrific. I wish that had more receptionists son duty to reduce the wait to check in and check out.

This is a beautiful hotel that is centrally located. I did feel that there was no 'personal' touch and that we were just a number. I cannot put my finger on why this is and assume that it is just because of the size of the hotel and having a more personalised approach is not possible. Check in was seamless as was checkout. It would have been nice to be told about the water taxis and how to get around when we checked in but unfortunately we weren't. This is a great hotel where you can just sit by the pool until checkout, however as we wanted to have a look around the city and explore I didn't find that this information was readily available or given by the staff or hotel information that was in our room. The tourist tv channel was not working properly and was flickering and was unable to be watched.

Great services. We were driving to the wrong wing which has been closed since COVID (because of low number of tourists in BKK) but one of the staff was kind enough to lead us on his motorbike to the other wing.

The location is exceptional. You'll have everything: the nice river view, local restaurants, nice affordable local bars, and even cozy cafes. The dining option is limited during thess months though, which is understandable. Overall we are very happy with ourstay.

An Excellent property in Bangkok with beautiful location. But most of all the staff were courteous, professional and overall made me feel very welcome in all aspects of the hotel.

A 5-star hotel beside the Chao Phraya River, both beautiful and courteous.

The hotel service is very good, the mattresses are soft and moderate, and the plants on the balcony are better, but there will be mosquitoes, the restaurant service is good, the food is good, the room has a small clothes rack, but the facilities are a bit old, In addition, the hand washing water in the bathroom is relatively thin, and the pillows are too soft or too high, which is not suitable for me.

From Chaeng Watthana Road, take the express way to get to Silom exit, go straight to 4 junction, turn right. When turning, there will be a sign to go. Sanktari-la Hotel Then turn right into the alley a little further, then go to yourself without using anything to tell the way at all Going really easy ..

Amazing service especially at the restaurant on the river!

Lovely stay at a beautiful hotel! My daughter was thrilled with her birthday cake and flowers which were in the room on arrival- very thoughtful and it really made it a special stay for her.

All great, though the facilities are dated, as I'm sure you know.

The staff were AMAZING-
the room however, smelled like like mould and was dated. The linen was moist to touch.

5 minutes walk to BTS Saphan Pancin. Good traffic and nice pool. Hotel you want to stay.

Stayed for 3 nights and really enjoyed everything. Great breakfasts outside by the river and the restaurant by the river was fabulous. Staff were extremely helpful and attention to detail was impecable.

Hey on the river and down town. A great five star hotel. The river and courtyard make it special.
Heaps of food options.

The view and transportation was really good. Saphan Taksin BTS station is right next to the hotel. Water taxi station is in front of the hotel. Icon Siam is just across the river. You can take a free boat to get there. Room condition was excellent. River view with balcony at the corner brings you a panorama view even in the bath tub. They clean the room in the evening, too. Service was really good. Most of all there are many nice restaurants around this area.

It is not the first time that we have stayed in a chain hotel and, once again, we have not been disappointed. Since we are talking about excellence, in the case of Bangkok we would have appreciated the presence of a shuttle on the river for transfers to the other bank or the neighboring stations despite being the hotel very close to the ferry stop. Furthermore, as far as restaurants are concerned, unlike previous experiences, here we were unable to feed the youngest child with dedicated specialties, other than those present on the restaurant menu such as pizza, burgers or toasts that were normally part of the specialties served in pool. At the early morning departure, the breakfast box, requested the previous evening, was not yet available at the agreed time, however the prompt intervention of a porter quickly solved the little inconvenience. In any case, for us the Shangri-la continues to be a reality of great excellence and a sure point of reference for hospitality.

Good hotel.but if you like outdoor jogging, better choose other hotel.

Stayed at Krungthep Wing. The breakfast and dinner in the lounge was excellent. The train and water bus stops are close. Sightseeing by water bus is also attractive, so I didn't get bored for three days of stay. There was a mart and a market right next door, so I enjoyed the late night.
The building was a bit underdeveloped and the room was in poor condition. The spacious toilet, the terrace with the river view, and the fruit filling were so wonderful.

Meh Staff OVERLY friendly (is that a thing?) Oh it is, trust me. They're annoying. Staff also messed up our money exchange so be careful. Drinks had NO alcohol in them even when asked to double the alcohol. Our shower also overflowed quickly so showers were timed lol. Place was clean though and the pool was nice and location was good.

I like this place very much, including swimming pool, restaurant and gym. And the courteous staff and the gym staff look after the users very well, especially Pupae and Mint, who look great customers.

There were so many downgrades in the service and quality of the Shangri La from the previous times we stayed. Checking in felt like all of the charms of checking into a Holiday Inn. The biggest miss for us was the lack of the Shangri La boat to easily get out of the immediate area. It's a really unpleasant place to try and use the public boat to get to the Palace area and having to use a taxi in traffic is a huge waste of time. We really missed the historical parts of the hotel and the beautiful designs you once had. Sad to see it all go.

Krungthep Wing River View Room is highly recommended

The Hotel is lovely and very well maintained. The staff are trained to a high standard and very polite at all times.The breakfast was first class and the pool area is very well managed. I n my opinion it's the best Hotel in Bangkok for Quality and price.

I had a dinner in Shangri-La hotel when I was traveling in Bangkok. There were many family groups to enjoy dinner. Sea food was really nice. I totally recommend Shangri-La for enjoying a nice dinner

This hotel is not even close to where a Shangri La should be. It felt like a crowded cruise ship. The service was slow and unfriendly - especially in the lobby lounge. The concierge staff was rather disinterested in helping people. The breakfast buffet was busy and chaotic (felt like a high school cafeteria) and they stuck dozens of people in an overflow ballroom with no ambience. Very unpleasant all around. There are great hotels in Bangkok, this isn't one of them.

Great hotel located next to the Chao Phraya River and Sathorn pier which is convenient to get to the other side of the river. Stayed at the Krungthep Wing with excellent views of the river from the balcony. Afternoon tea & evening cocktails are free and the food served was very good.

Rooms are spacious & clean. Service by the staff is excellent eventhough it can feel a bit exaggerated at times.

Very pleasant to spend the afternoon at the terrace next to the river, watching the choreographed moves of all the boats in the water

Although a lot of very good hotels in Bangkok. We always choose the Shangri-La as a consistent high standard, especially the Krunthep Wing.

Enjoyable stay. Friendly staff all more than willing to make one s stay enjoyable.
Reception on arrival very diappointing when compared to our reception in previous years. Left to stand at reception, drink on the counter at reception, no welcome garland and left to find the room ourselves. Not what we have previously experienced.
Lounge staff and poolside staff as always were helpful and friendly a credit to the hotel.
We were disappointed that the main pool was closed for a private function and had we been staying in that part of the hotel we would have been annoyed to have to relocate to a much smaller space where as we witnessed some people were unable to find seating. We on the other hand decided to leave early because of the overcrowding and increased noise level.

Communication was good, I was going to help with anything more, and I came first and told me what I needed. The room condition was really good, and we were grateful for the kindness and small events for both of us. Handwritten letters, chocolate and rose events made our time romantic. Discounted rooms and promotions for Golden Circle members made this trip happier. Whenever I went out of the room, the kind greetings from the staff were always nice. Relaxing in the swimming pool at sunset made me forget all my worries, worries and stresses.

If you can better explain the facilities and usage of the hotel, the services provided, and promotions, I think you will be able to enjoy more convenient and enjoyable activities while spending time at the hotel. Looking at other people's reviews, it was a bit disappointing that there was a part that I didn't know and couldn't use. It would have been better if there were staff who could speak Korean, but it was a shame. When I stayed in Abu Dhabi, it was convenient because there was a concierge staff who could speak Korean. Maybe I went to a busy time and there was no room removed from the breakfast cafe, so I waited and snooped around.

Thanks to the excellent concierge service, I was also helped to book other facilities in Bangkok rather than a hotel, and I was able to spend a romantic time on a dinner cruise. Even if I didn't have to ask the staff at the swimming pool, I felt welcomed by putting on towels and bringing water.

Shangri-La is the best hotel for me. Next time I go on a trip, I will definitely stay at this hotel again. It is a place where there is a trust that makes my travel more valuable. Thanks to you, I was happy. Thank you Shangri-La!

Overall service was good except the service at the bar. The waiter was rude and not attentive. He was very reluctant to attend to our request.

We just loved our overall stay at Shangri-La Hotel Bangkok, fantastic facilities and would highly recommend staying here.

Room is very clean, many variety of foods, special boat support from Hotel to Asiatique, Big Meeting Room and Good sound system

Check in was done politely and efficiently. Thoroughly enjoyed cocktails in the riverside lounge and a lovely dinner at your Thai restaurant by the river. Breakfast was comprehensive and tasty. Our room was spacious and well appointed. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our overnight stopover at your hotel.

Staff friendly and accommodating when I had to extend the stay after I left, and my son could remain in the room. Reception are very helpful. Rooms clean. Only issue, is that I was never offered a nonsmoking floor and noticed the strong smell throughout the stay. As I checked in at 1am, and very busy during the conference, there was never an opportunity to address this. Kind regards, Dr Wong
