Shangri La Georgetown,Penang Review

Great location and very good value! Clean and quiet, a nicely renovated and decorated hotel.

The location was very good.
The food quality for Breakfast was sufficiently wide and generally of good quality except for the Curry chicken which was cold on our last day.
The Service staff were excellent all round and in particular William in the Club Lounge. He has to be commended for his friendliness and excellent service to our Group of 12 pax.
The Rooms were clean

During my stay on 21/9/20 around 11pm, we heard announcement from room requested the guests to leave the building immediately due to unexpected incident and mentioned not to use elevator. Most of the guests walked all the way by staircase from 14th floor to lobby included old people, children and my wife who has heart disease. We were shocked and scared as we have no idea what's happening, worried about the building is on fire. When the guests arrived lobby, we were informed it was a false alarm which detected smoke due to one of the guest cooking in room. The manager in charged couldn't give a proper explanation why no announcement made to inform that it was a false alarm once they verified the truth but only inform the guests when we arrived lobby by walking down from 14th floor. Please imaging how serious if accidents happened when all the guests rushing on staircase and how the old people and my wife with heart disease afford to walk from 14th floor. The manager promised to update us the next day morning and requested the guest back to room. However, there's nothing update the next day until I checked out. I feel extremely disappointed on my first stay with your hotel and this is the worst staying experience I ever had. Please check with your staff of the incident.

Very good location, it take only 1min to the malls, the TOP. Also have a shuttle bus from this hotel to shangri la batu Feringgi. We could use their swimming pool.

I feel very much at home from the checking in to the checking out including dining at the F&B outlet

Penang is famous with local food. However, we can find nice local food here too with very reasonable price.
The only thing is that there will be long queue during check in time during peak season.

I requested a quiet room but was given one near the lifts. When asked if this is ok, I asked for an alternative room but was told there are no other room available. I am not sure why I was asked a rhetorical question about room choices as such. Thin walls and floors, poor sound proofing. I can hear every conversation and shouting children along the whole corridor. Stayed in better hotels than this in the area, not worth what they charged. Disappointed!

A friendly bunch of hotel staff, who were relaxed enough to serve us well even during peak season. As a family of four, we love how centrally located this hotel is. We used to frequent E&O, Royale Bintang and then St. Giles Wembley. Nothing beats Jen Hotel.

St. Giles is great too but not connected to Komtar. We re often at the Armenian Street, Kimberley Street area and as long as we find our way into Komtar, we have a sheltered path back to Jen Hotel.

Conveniently located, next to 3 big malls, all connected...

We had a great seafood buffet lunch with free flow of beer. Good ambience for gatherings

A very comfortable hotel to stay. will come again next month :)

The service was very good and not rushed, the ice bucket was constantly topped up and plates were changed for each course. The food was all right on the whole but a few of the courses were disappointing. The noodles were extremely overcooked and the dessert of sweetened rice was puzzling. But my family and I enjoyed the ambience and especially the bottle of Chivas Regal. Nice touch!

I think the bath tub should be removed. Shower facility can replace the bath tub facility. This will save more water.

Staff is attentive and room is clean. Lobby is also great with modern furnishings

Decent hotel situated within Georgetown with many food courts, stalls & malls. It's a good priced hotel for family & business

I was expecting nice breakfast because I ve had it before when I stayed . It was almost good but compare to previous , some food was not warm or pancakes was too soft, I felt the quality has been down a bit.. But overall it was great . Especially the room was so nice and clean. Thank you.

Though my stay is just for 1 night, we really enjoyed our staycation at Jen Hotel. Jen Hotel situated in a very strategic area and close to amenities such as shopping malls, MyNews and eateries.

The decor felt very welcoming as we stepped into the hotel. Staff are friendly and accommodating, with a smile on their faces always. Rooms were very clean and comfortable. Will definitely go back to Hotel Jen Penang to stay!

If there's one thing to comment it would be the check-in process, it's taking too long for a classy hotel like yours. Other than that, loved it.

Not too bad for the price. The room is of a reasonable size and the breakfast is good. Location is great and central. However, heard that the hotel that just opened opposite is better. May try it next time.

Staff are very friendly and helpful. Room are clean and nice. Have a leaking kettle but problem solved immediately.

Ask for bed sheet covers and covered blankets if you are intending to use the sofa bed.

Very convenient location. Have free daily shuttle bus to Golden Sands Resort which located at Batu Feringghi as well. Its their sister property

Room is comfortable, they have washlet.Sometime they don't have enough space for guest parking, and ask guests to park opposite hotel parking.. this point should be improved.

Thank you Hotel Jen for the excellent service and welcoming atmosphere. I fell ill and the hotel took care of my needs by extending the check out timing. It was a very memorable stay. Thank you for going the extra mile! Will definitely stay there again when I visit Penang again.

This is an excellent hotel: good food, friendly staff, comfortable bed. The only thing I don't like is the air con. I just could not control the temperature. Despite setting it at 26 degree C, it went down to 22 degree C in the early morning. It was so freezing cold that I had to switch it off!

We arrived at 3pm. We have to wait for more than 45mins to check in for 4 rooms. After we waited for 45mins, we had been informed, there are 2 rooms still not ready yet. We need to wait for an hour.

The hotel staff is good,the rooms are big and clean,new style hotel and the only problem is that it is very difficult for a wheelchair person to come here ,hope to see the new renovations to come back,Thanks Jen Hotel.

Clean rooms though not big, modern deco. Didnt experience much of the service except check in and check out and they were friendly and efficient.

We enjoy the whole stay very much, especially the services from reception for being helpful. I would also like to emphasize the massage services at Health Club by Ms Elaine is highly recommended, she is very skillful and friendly. It should be one of the attraction for the guest to stay in Jen Hotel. We will definitely come back for longer stay in next holiday.

Wonderful service from the moment the porter took our bags. Front office staff were lovely and very accommodating when we arrived early. All staff have been lovely. Breakfast was amazing, great variety. Pool & fitness centre facilities both good as is the location. WIFI is very good !!!

Well worth the money. Clean and luxurious room with power outlets everywhere. Wifi was good. Switches are easy to figure out.

The staff were nice and friendly, especially the cafe and lounge staff. 4 elevators, so wait time is minimal.

Ais krim potong at the lounge is a nice touch. Whoever put it there, please raise his/her salary.

Location is good, and uber drivers' availabilities are about 2-4 minutes average. The gym exceeded my expectation. Breakfast is pleasant, with good variety. More food than what I could take.

Pool is ok if all you want to do is swim. Square design, no frills, suits me fine.

The cons:
1. Shower floor is not sloped towards to the drain hole, so water remain pooled on the floor. Never understand why this is so prevalent in Malaysia, even at establishment such as this.

2. Not enough towel for the pool. Had to get one from the gym/spa counter.

Will I stay here again if I come to Penang? Strong yes

The room was very well kept. Daily Room cleaning was carried out excellently. The bedding were extremely comfortable and provided the much needed rest after each day sightseeing activities.

The daily breakfast was sumptous and provided very good variety. The servers were polite and helpful.

Check in and check out were done very promptly. The ealy check in was most made the stay most efficient for planned activities

Perhaps only things which I would like to feedback are
1) Some pillows too soft
2) Sink tap too small resulting in water splashing onto table top everytime...makes place messy and wet
3) Need an extra tissue box in room
4) Swimming pool too small, but guess that can't be helped

I had the club room during my stay with Hotel Jen Penang, it was just a short 3D2N stay but the overall experience was very memorable.

The biggest plus for staying in this hotel was their tie-up with their sister resort - Golden sands Penang. I had crazy fun going over to that resort and using their facilities. Thank you for the free shuttle service to and fro.

William from the club lounge is a pleasant staff member who truly showed us the Shang ri la's warm hospitality, really thankful to him for smoothly checking us in and checking us out.

I will certainly be staying here again when I am in Penang.

The place is a bit old but the place is well maintained. Rooms and toilets are clean. They offer free shuttle service to Ferringghi area hotel- still from Shangri La group.

The first non-smoking room we got has a smoke smell and so we asked for change. The hotel management need to note guest smoking on the non-smoking room.

Good location. Many eateries around. 2 shopping Mall. Spoilt for choice

We only stayed one night here but we had a very pleasant stay. We got an upgrade to make things even better. Thanks to William who was so welcoming and polite. Basically every staff we met here was very pleasant and friendly. The club lounge was great. Good breakfast, abundant snacks and drinks at cocktail time. My room was clean, spacious and very comfortable. The wifi was easily accessible and consistently reliable. Definitely will stay here again on my next vacation in Penang. Thank you.

Great location and the hotel room is clean and comfortable. Hope the aircon can be working better. The service staff are friendly and helpful.

Check in process was smooth. Sweets at counter was a treat for my kids. They loved it, kept going back for more! :) Room was clean, Bed was comfy, shower head and warm water was good too! Overall really nothing to bad to feedback. Staff greeted us where ever we go in the hotel.

Its been a while havent stay here. Ne of my favourite hotel.
