The first time i was there my experience went well but the last three times was horrible.I was midiagnosed with an infection i dont have , i was overdosed on antibiotics. I was only suposed to be givin 4 pills but the nurce gave me 14 and told me to take it when i told her 14 pills is alot...i had a ct scan done had a bad reaction to the dye or scan and had pink discharge afterwords and reported that to them and they acted clueless about the symtom and ive now been hemeraging from my female area since last saterday.they diagnosed me with GI problems told me to call the gi on my release papers and failed to send the refural .... Huh frustrated .. I made a complaint to a corinator because i was refused twice to speak with the charge nurse and she admitted my complaint irritated her.i opologize for the complaint but my life is precious to me and i know my body well enough to know something isnt right.

The doctors are great and that's the only reason I am giving 2 stars. For spending$120,000 on a medical procedure, that should include a private room! My wife had a medical procedure at Baptist/Wolfson and we had a private room. Just saying. .

I had my daughter at 25 weeks5 days. My experience with them saving her life was excellent.
Besides when they have the band around my stomach to watch the heart. Physically was painful because they didn't care for me at all when my daughter was perfectly fine the whole time. My skin was peeling.
During the NICU stay a nurse claim that I was never there enough. This was towards the middle and end of this day. The social worker told me to come here or more so I came to the NICU. 7 to 8 a.m. show up. At 10 p.m. I would either walk because I didn't make it to the last bus in time or get lucky and take the bus back to Ronald McDonald.
They were obviously not writing me down.
Then another nurse or probably the same nurse clean these desats and Bradys that I watch, real. When clearly it wasn't.
Babies are going to obviously have moments were they really do have the SATs are Brady's but it's in no danger.
Also the social worker we had was talking about a case to the DCF on a single father who did not want to bring his daughter home yet because of the hurricane and how his daughter is really really sick.
I believed it because there was a hurricane at this time and it was near his hometown heading towards him.
All I was doing was waiting for tickets to help me with food wise, which 30 tickets is not enough definitely in my situation.
I lost so much money, even my car mileage is so high . we had to put our own money for gas. I still have to go to Gainesville for appointments that I can have over here but because she was born there they're not letting her go appts close to home. and I can't have all the appointments or some of the appointments are at least two appointments in the same day unless.
I was supposed to go to Winnie Palmer for my appointments but the doctor OBGYN refuse to accept me to go on to another hospital so I didn't ask for all this chaos.

That's only some of the NICU stay problems there is another problem and that's the DCF staff maybe you guys need to work on hiring or retraining these people.
Case is closed so I can talk about it.
My daughter since she was born early micro.she decided one day while she was in a bouncer on a island to act active and try to get out which she was never like that because her arm was possibly already ripped. I don't know.
all I know is she was crying always wanting attention wanting to be held but at this time she was sleeping whenever my grandma turned around for a few seconds to turn off the stove so the pot doesn't burn.
At the time of the situation my daughter went forat the time of the situation my daughter went to Ocala first before shands.
Ocala seemed to say that we abused our daughter and wanted to let themknow.
so when we got over there, DCF.some lady showed up as try to ask questions but the doctors came in then the second time she left again then the third time they came in to go do x-rays and sure enough she disappears after 5 seconds apart from leaving the x-ray room to me leaving that x-ray room so their dad can stay behind.
She called the DCF group.
They claim that the my children's dad in my story were two different.
Which is BS I just add on some things that I don't know I'm just guessing just like their dad.
Their dad works so much and I'm childccare certified and I'm very proud of where we stand as great people.
there was no proof of abuse there was no sign of a reason to take her away but they put my child into my grandma's care which I don't really care because I do trust her also.
the investigator went on vacation the next day and did not tell us whenall this went down so we had to wait two weeks which almost he had to put in anotherweek for investigation.

When the DCF workers were talking to us at this time we did not have more than 24 hours of sleep and did not eat which we were starving and extremely tired so I could not focus.
Also because of this going down we were treated bad by some of the nurses and doctors which I've never met these people before.
we never saw the social worker either during this process and I even asked for one.

Disappointed.

First of all i have been a nurse since 1975 . My sister in law received excellent care and her life would possiblyhave been extended if she had consulted this Cancer center before being misdiagnosed in a small town near by. Next my brother in law received excellent care after undergoing extensive surgery for neck cancer. The ICU docs include family during rounds and answer questions and listen for suggestions. All staff were kind and attentive. The only negative comment is the amount of time it took from diagnosis to surgery. Because of the extreme delay the cancer grew rapidly causing more extensive treatment.

If you value your health you will not Go to this Hospital.. After a failed surgery The nurses treated me terrible.. Also one nurse came into my room 4 times asking to give me a flue shot.. I made it clear I did not and would not take a flue shot only to be pressured.. I concluded they get money for pushing flue shots.. I am in terrible pain from a surgery that the doctor told me I would be glad I got it.. Shaking my hand and giving me false hope.. DO NOT TRUST SHANDS !

Terrible miscommunication after surgery. Nurse violated HIPAA rules , patient safety committe is so hard to get a hold off , and so is patient advocate. Avoid this hospital at all costs!!

Was told by my cardiologist that I needed to go to the ER ASAP. COULD NOT BREATH PAINS IN CHEST ARMS AND LEGS, 10 HOURS IN ER..... STILL HAVE NOT SEEN A DOCTOR. I have been here 5 times, walked out after 7 hour wait times. Would walk out now if I could walk or breath.

My daughter is in ER in Gainesville Shands Hospital with chest pain since noon and was so far only seen by nurse who checked her blood pressure?! It has been 6 hours plus. I am so anxious and helpless. This is bullcrap. Any parent with a child far from a home fully understand my anger. Are there no parents working at this place?

Told me I had to leave with the same symptoms I entered with. I couldn't see or walk straight .they told me I would be given a ride home..instead I was left in the freezing cold at 3am with no transport & 23miles from home. WORST HOSPITAL IN FLORIDA.

A gentleman next to us had a serious stroke and was waiting in the ER waiting room for several hours--he could have had another while sitting there. My sister had a clearly septic infection and was told to sit and wait--and I was told that if she passed out that I needed to just keep her sitting. The staff do NOT care at all about the patients/people. They just brush off concerns as if they are completely irrelevant and unimportant. Anywhere else, a complaint of chest pain would at least get a nurse out there to check it out; a man with a stroke that has resulted in loss of mobility in one side of his body would certainly be seen--in less than 4 hours (and counting). UF Health is a great teaching hospital, but the ER may not be the place to go when actually seriously sick. They just don't seem to care.

This hospital is trash it midest well be a landfill why be anything pertaining to a hospital if you don t love it or choose the career if you don t have the passion for it, with the exception of a few of the nurses one being Lilly in ICU also a few other ICU nurses that I couldn t really grasp their name and my case manager Ashley? Everything is a wait you midest well just take care of yourself or die there s absolutely no professionalism no communication, everyone is full of themselves I felt more like a burden than a patient. Update:Currently back in the hospital in my home town with thrombophlebitis because once I got out of ICU my IV in my left arm was not flushed when I downgraded right before my exit.

Waited almost 3 hours in the ER after almost chopping my index finger off. I left and went to North Florida and received help as soon as I checked into the ER. I was out of there in less than an hour. Shands is the worst ER to go to if you have something wrong.

I called Shands Hospital after being diagnosed wit...

I called Shands Hospital after being diagnosed with a "rare and aggressive", malignant Melanoma, on my the left side of my face. By the time it had been correctly diagnosed, it was quite large, by melanoma standards.
The Dr. that Shands hooked me up with, scared the hell out of me. First telling me that I should start getting my affairs in order. He then told me, and I quote, "I am going to have to put some thought into how I'm going to reconstruct your face. But, I can tell you that you will have a droopy lip, and you will have trouble keeping liquids in your mouth."
He then told me that after the surgery, I would have radiation, to the jaw, twice a day, for 6 weeks. That's right, 42 radiation treatments. He said
they would "ruin my teeth and my taste buds, and would have to give me pain meds so I could swallow."
At that point, I referred to Moffitt in Tampa. I did have extensive surgery, and Moffitt suggested Interferon treatment, which I declined.
To date, 10 years later, I have had several surgeries for my Melanoma issues, but no after treatment of any kind. The initial surgery to my face has healed so nicely, most people don't notice the scars, until I point them out...no "droopy lip, no trouble keeping liquids in my mouth", and best of all, no Kemo or Radiation.
I truly believe that I would be dead, had I stuck with Shands, and my original Dr. there. And after another scary visit that my wife had, we will never go back to Shands. no doubt about it.

Over the years shands has been the best place for medical service. But this past week changed how i feel. I entered the er knowing i was covid positive
At around 3:30 am at 6:20 am i was sent to a isolated room in the er while in the the nurse did another nasual swab it was done at an from
The side resulting in a rupture in my nose that continue bleeding for several minutes i was allowed nothing to eat or drink over the course of 16 hours being a diabetic i have to eat something After asking 6 times i finally got a cup half full of ice. After my testing was completed At around 6:45 pm the doctored informed me we are not admitting and you will be going home After another hour still nobody to release me. When i push the nurse call button not One response thank god i wasnt dying
Im sure my insurance will pay them well for nothing avoid this ER room

I've come to Shands for many different reason and patients. My mom, dad, children, husband, and more. 9 times out of 10, they are great! Ive came across very few drs and nurses with bad attitudes. By far my favorite hospital, only downside is the Wendy's inside. The Wendy's employees are completely ignorant and always messing up orders, not to mention, food is nasty. 5 stars for Shands and the other restaurants inside, 0 stars for Wendys in Shands!

My father was transported on ambulance at 8:00 am. Was told he was going to be admitted and still after 12 hours he still hasn t been admitted. I called to ask when will he receive a room. The nurse said to me there are 32 people to be admitted. My thing is why continue to take patients if you don t have place for the patients to go. This hospital is awful. It really doesn t make any since to have someone that is 79 years old be there all day and don t have a room. My father is a heart patient who had a heart transplant some years ago. Something need to be done about this!!

The nurses and doctors were awesome, however, the staff at the 2nd floor desk was not at all what I expected. I think when you work with families of cancer patients, you should be a little patient and maybe show some compassion. Just remember...that full room of family members have no idea what's going on during surgery. I just expected a little care and compassion from UF Cancer Hospital.

The nurse's and doctors were thorough and good to us. However once all was done that they could do, the discharge wait was and still is over four hours. Why? Because neurology department has failed to click a single button on the computer. So the nurse's can't let us go and we hold up a bed and a room for another patient in need. We lose our patience and stress increases and the cycle continues. Ugh

I am sick and tired of this hospital. Someone at the top of chain of command needs to fix their system. Its not working! Miscommunication, poor organization! Get it together Shands. Everything has to be a struggle. A simple thing cannot be resolved. No answers and no person to speak with, constant bouncing back and forth. I'm not even going to go into the some of the staff and their behavior.. Because some of them need to go home... But I am honoring the people who actually know how to do their job, polite and professional staff.. nurses doctors and surgeons, thank God for them.
Extremely disappointed with this hospital after everything we went through with them,it has been so much more negative experiences than positive. Its sad..
Please provide more staff please be more organized please don't let the patients suffer because you don't know how to run this. Too many hands is in a pot and the end result is disappointing.

I recently stayed at the hospital. I had a femoral osteotomy done. I was in excruciating pain and the staff and doctors made my recovery so much more better. My surgeon Dr. Vlasak is an amazing doctor .I was very scared about having this surgery and after I met with Dr. Vlasak I felt confident about having the surgery. The staff was attentive and caring. Awesome nurses and doctors. The ones that really stood out to me and provided me with such excellent care was Becka, Cassie, Daniel, Walter, Blair, Viva,Peachy, Kelli, Kiona ,Uri and Shelley. They truly care about they're patients, they take patient care to a whole new level Elizabeth and Brandi who was the nurse manager was very nice and came and checked on me too. Karl and Melissa are awesome they were my Physical Therapist and they went out of their way to help me . Annette the case manager and Karl went above and beyond to get me a wheel chair. Tameka was my house keeper and she was very sweet and very thorough when she cleaned! There was several other people that I did not get their names. The management and staff team at the hospital were great. Thank you all for taking such good care of me. We need more people like them!

Would 110% recommend going anywhere other than Shands Hospital. I went to the emergency department on two separate occasions.First time I waited 3 hours and never got seen. The second time I was seen right away due to trouble breathing and I was given the typical "I don't know what's wrong" and was promised medicine and to go wait in the waiting room. Two hours later, I was never given any medicine and I ended up leaving and going to a different facility. I got a statement in the mail for the bill that I paid in full. Fast forward 5 months and I'm getting calls from a collections agency that I have a bill of over $200 that I need to pay. I called the Shands health customer service number and the man I spoke to basically said "it's a facility charge, there's nothing we can do." Even though I never received the services promised and ended up leaving on my own both times. Save your time and money and go somewhere else.

Don't listen to the clowns! (Like the one below from a lady who has four 1 star reviews on medical facilities "cough" hypochondriac who has no respect for anyone in the medical industry "cough") This is the best hospital in florida and one of the best in the states. They have a team of doctors there that are unmatched and some of the best residents I've had the pleasure of being a patient under. You always have fresh eyes on your case so nothing goes unnoticed. Take it from someone who has had 5 major surgeries at this hospital. I can say with 100 % confidence that these guys took better care of me than I could have asked for. I will trust them with my life for the rest of my life. Period. I owe my thanks to those doctors forever and maybe someday you will too. God bless.

I received out-patient radiation treatment in 2014. At that time I was not asked if I would mind having a fellow (advanced student, but still a student) apply a head frame that screwed into my skull. I did not care to be used for practice that day. I had my follow-up MRI one year later (2015). Upon checking in with Shands neurosurgical division, my disc was received and entered into their system. It is now over one month later, after contacting them by phone several times, and I have not received a return call providing me with my results or instructions on follow-up. Perhaps if this tumor was in one of their heads they might be more attentive. I could not recommend their services nor will I ever voluntarily use their facilities again.

I was hospitalized for a week and the care was excellent. All the employees and doctors that attended me were very Humanitarian, kind and with a smile, Always ready to give of the best for the others. I am VERY GRATEFUL to EVERYONE. GOD BLESS YOU and hopefully you will get MORE Hospitals concerned about the quality of their employees to serve others.

By far the worse hospital.

By far the worse hospital.
The way they treat their patients is inhuman! Speaking with recorded evidence.
They are shady, liars, and they are making stories against a child's mother. They are sick and disgusting. I hope nobody goes through this and has to deal with people and hospitals like this one. STAY AWAY! This hospital is the WORST OF THE WORST! How they treat their patients, specially a little angel that has no defense or word to say . His mother has been mistreated, just because they believe she won t know or notice anything since she is Latina, they have lied to her regarding her sons heart situation, the medicine that they put on him makes the baby heart beat worst instead OF helping making it better , nurses and doctors are DISRESPECTFUL, ETC ..... is just a nightmare what the entire family is going through . Dont take your child there NEVER EVER .

That place is sorry, them people (employees) can't recollect a thing. They totaled my health and surgical procedures that was place upon me. If you have a choice I would choose North Florida Regional- All Day of the week.

They assaulted me mentally, physically, and sexually. I do not expect to see Florida Gators broadcast in my community or any other product on the shelves in my community. They should not even be in the state of Florida.

I had compound fracture prior to ever attending this hospital; where my arm is completely disfigured and bones sticking from the skin. Had my operation done else where, across town at North Florida Regional. Best results I have ever seen and it was all put back together with a small inch or two incision.

I lightly broke my arm and I was slice completely open from my wrist to my elbow; attending UF Shands Health Care. I was assaulted prior 2 years repeating. I would Never Allow A Female attend this hospital, campus, or Alachua County! One day I pray they do not exist or I recollect their existence at all.

The worst hospital I have ever dealt with - my Mom has been there 3 times in 6 weeks with an internal bleed which causes low hemoglobin and she passes out - multiple test including a camera she swallowed on wednesday - it's Friday and they said the software has been down so they can;t read it ! It took 3 days for the GI doctor to see her with no answer and said he had a whole text book on what to do and she should pick a chapter. WTH! Is that a sick joke! Horrible bed side manner - RUDE and unacceptable..... They want to release her tomorrow so in 3 days she will just be back there - ridiculous. Might bring here to Tampa - better hospitals here.. They call Shands a teaching hospital - no kidding - SCARY! Do not send your loved ones there!

This hospital is by far the worse hospital I have every experienced in my life. I was rushed by ambulance from Urgent Care and sat in the er for 8 hrs and they still had not seen me. The staff were rude and obnoxious. If your life is at stake avoid this hospital at all cost. I'm editing this review because now I'm getting doctor bills for this Hospital upward into the $5,000 range and not a doctor or nurse laid their hand on me. Shame on you damn crooks.

The doctors their are very malicious when it comes down to the poor baby's that's in the NICU . They need more nurses that have mother instincts than a person that's only there to get paid . I feel like every mother that has a child in the NICU should be able to stay over night with there baby to make sure they are getting cared properly . The doctors are very "sassy" and smart out the mouth when answers are needed . God please look over the babies that are suffering and is in need of good care .

I swear, I can have a shot in the head & have to be waiting in the ER for hours, I set up an appointment to be seen, waited 5 months. They rescheduled & I had to wait another 3 months just to find out they rescheduled me to wait another 2 months. So upset, worst timing ever.

the nurse that took care of my brother in law on Sept 14, 2017 around 4pm on the 11th floor icu unit was very unprofessional he made a statement that I was very unhappy and disturbed by we stated we had a question to ask he replied is it one of those get to questions I said excuse me we don't ask get to questions around here then he started trying to apologize I'm calling to speak to a nurse supervisor today and hopefully build a case against this person because clearly he do not need to be in the medical field with an attitude like this that statement was very inappropriate

Dr. Bayne took care of a severe hernia with my 2 year old son. The procedure was basically seamless, and the recovery was prompt and went as he said it would. Dr. Bayne has followed up vigorously to make sure that our son is doing okay, and there is absolutely nothing more that we could ask of him. We would reccomend him to anyone.

HORRIBLE ER!! Unfortunately, I am in ER's often due to my medical conditions and I am currently here now. This facility appears to be EXTREMELY understaffed, and seemingly, they don't give a damn about patients. SUPPOSE TO BE HIGH RANKED HOSPITAL??!! Dont come this location 1515 Archer, go elsewhere if you require ER. Here, you will wait in PAIN & SUFFER for HOURS!!

Currently going on a 6 hour wait in the waiting room, staff laughing that it's not really that busy yet here you set. Have watched many end up leaving to go to another hospital because of waiting so long. Also know that they may have cost a fellow use of his foot leaving him waiting for over 6 hours with a bleeding issue

The staff here is very rude. I decided since this was the case I should speak with someone in HR. The lady I spoke with cut me off assuming she knew what I was saying and she basically dismissed me when I told her to please let me speak so she could understand the question fully. She was not willing to do so, instead she just kept repeating what she had already said even though it was not what I was asking about. She started raising her voice when I tried again to explain my question. She finally let me speak and instead of addressing my concern she said she didn t' want to argue with me and she couldn t' help me. I'd say the staff here needs some customer service training. This must not be a great facility if everyone is rude and in a bad mood.

My daughter has been sitting in the ER with severe abdominal pain for 6 hours. Nothing has been done. Took vitals and that's it. My daughter asked finally how much longer was told 3 people still in front of her and a trauma patient was coming in so she was pretty much told to go home with severe abdominal pain. This place is a joke. Took her insurance and co-pay. Someone need to come in and review there procedures and practices.

This place is HORRIBLE!!! My mom got in a car accident and they had her sitting there in pain for 5 or 6 hours before they got her a room and tried to send her home then next day and she could barely even walk from a broken back and was told by one of the doctors that they can call her a cab. She went home about 3 days later just to have to go to another hospital from a brain injury that they so called didn t catch . Clearly they don t look over things correctly and didn t check anything but her back when she kept mentioning her eyesight was blurry. Oh yeah and on top of that I came to visit her and a nurse came in there and got her confused with another patient. THAT IS VERY UNSAFE!!!

I have been in and out of UF Health in Gainesville Florida now since October 27th 2018. I am writing this from this hospital and today is June 9th 2019. I have begun to realize that the Plastics and the Orthopedic teams at this hospital just may be the most inept, negligent group of doctors I have ever had the misfortune being a patient of.

Where to start.... Doctors and nurses do not communicate with each other. All most the whole staff has an attitude problem. It takes hours to receive your meds. If you have a regular doc appointment you wait over an hour after your scheduled appointment time to get 5 mins with your doc.

I had a terrible migraine for 2 days in which my meds were not helping. By the 3rd day I went to Shands ER because I couldn t handle the pain any longer. I arrived at 8 am with an almost empty waiting room. I was taken back to a bed in less than 20 minutes and seen and treated immediately. Staff was kind and understanding and even turned off the loud tv that was overhead - without me even having to ask. Surprisingly the treatment I was given worked like a charm and I was out within 3 hours & minus a migraine. I have to say I was not expecting my visit to go so well. Glad I was pleasantly surprised.

The staff is excellent but the surgery appointment time is bullshit. We was told to be here at 11 am for our son surgery and now it 2 pm and they still havent took him up into the OR waiting area and told so it still be another 1 or 2 until they do. They need a but scheduling for surgery.

The waiting room times are simply unacceptable. They won't tell you how much time it'll take for you to be seen, and some patients had been waiting for nearly twelve hours. It would be quicker to drive two hours to another city if you want less insane wait times.

My son was treated great by the NICU during his extended stay due to severe prematurity however, if you get Gwen Robinson as your social worker do not expect her to do her job the way it should be done. She does not respond to phone calls in a timely manner, does not keep you informed on what the doctors are needing from you as the parent, and will lie to DCF trying to make herself appear better than what she really is and make you look like a crappy parent. The doctors depend on these social workers to be the middle person of communication and she failed epically at this for my family and I am currently having to fight DCF for my child due to her severe negligence in her job. On a lighter note the doctors and staff try their best to make sure the patient and family are taken care of and informed a quality which I admire in them.
