Got here at 10:00 am just to take my mother home and this is hour number 6 and she still hasn t got her discharge papers. I have spoken to 4 different nurses including the head nurse and still nothing. I have never waited this long in a hospital.

I arrived a good 45 minutes early at neruomedicine. I was told I needed a lumbar xray. Xray receptionist told me he saw it in the notes but didn't have an order to do it. After 2 trips back to nerumedicine and about an hour and 10 minutes later I finally got an xray. My cardiologist sent me there even though I live over 2 hours away. 2 previous surgeons and a chiropractor told me I have a nerve pinched in 2 directions. Doctor Murad said he didn't see a problem. What a wasted trip.
Had my daughter on 8-11-17 and kept telling them. Didn't have enough breast milk to feed my daughter so I used formulaand every single nurse that came in asked Would you like a nutritionist to come in and show you how? Id say No I know how cause she s my second, I m just not producing enough milk after like 10 nurses asked me if I wanted to see a nutritionist and me saying no they sent one in anyway. Nutritionist kept telling me things I already knew and it felt like I annoyed her and she said Well formula feeding has been proven to cause many things like SIDS (Sudden infant death syndrome). But if you don t care then fine and she walked out of the room. That is seriously messed up! Saying I don t care if my daughter dies! So rude, will never be back. They also don t listen to you when you tell them that you literally can t push the baby out and they just say yes you can . I almost lost my baby girl because they refused to listen. They had to go in and pull her out themselves and preform cpr because she wasn t breathing. Ridiculous and they don t care! Also while pregnant I went into the ER for fainting spells, difficulty breathing and randomly losing feeling in my legs to where I d fall. I was told that it could take up to 8 hours to get seen because Difficulty breathing while pregnant isn t that serious is what the lady at the desk said. While in the ER waiting room I was in a wheelchair, fall risk bracelet around my arm and an oxygen tank being pumped through my nostrils but It s not that serious stayed for about 3 1/2 hours maybe more and never got seen. Went to Monroe in Ocala and got seen immediately
My husband has cancer and when he is in the hospital he rather be in the cancer hospital the treat him with respect and the nurses are wonderful to him he can't talk and they are write on it when he presses the call button they come write to his room they are on time with medications the dr's are wonderful to I can't ask for a better place for him and the medical plaza the Dr and nurses are great over there to thank y'all for saving his life
Update* My husband had amazing service in the cardiovascular hospital. Now he is in the children's hospital side. The nurses are behind rude, his room is so filthy o took video. Hasn't been cleaned in 5 days. Charge nurse rolled her eyes at me. The filth on the floor is gross. Reporting it doesn't help as they don't seem to care either. June 20, 2019 I'm here now. They didn't give be my meds last night, tried to give me wrong ones. This morning same thing. I'm in a dark alley eoom with no windows. Nurses are the worst. Still haven't eaten in almost 24 hours. Husband was here with the best doctors, nurses and care. I'm here shaking with nasty nurses. Thank goodness I record everything to show incompetence.
I'm At Shandz Hospital Now N They Are Givin Bad Services. Theres A Lady Who Is In Pain N All N She Done Told The Nursez To Get Her Doctor 3 Hourz Ago N All They Doin Is Sittin Outside The Room Doorz N Laughin N Tlkin. From Now On If This Lady Complain Again N If They Dont Cum Quick, I'm Recordin Everythang
Do NOT go to Shands hospital! I was ignored, neglected, lied on,misdiagnosed, made to undress in front of someone who made me extremely uncomfortable, and attacked. And every nurse there allowed it!
I was not in Gainesville, during a family members recent stay. Our stay was complex and difficult due to certain circumstances. While I was able to speak to doctors and nurses, who always called back when I had questions, one person truly stood out. Sandy (? last name), the social worker was a hard working & extremely helpful staff member. She went above and beyond for me and my family member so many times. She was concerned and genuine. She, deserves 5 stars.
My father was air lifted to this hospital. Call to get information about his well being on 3 different occasions...was told to call back in a hour twice because there was no nurse available to give me report on him.
I am venting...i am sitting with my Granny in shands and she is having pretty extreme abdominal pain so i tell the nurse. She essentially pats me on the head, said she told the doctor and "can she go eat lunch now"...what!!! 3 family member in 3 months have hospital issues with a staff member. The other nurse assistant refused to help her up because " she about broke our backs this morning "...what is WRONG with people?? But no...please...go have lunch.....we went to this hospital because my last 2 experiences elsewhere sucked also...one day YOU will get sick ....
Sitting here at the er. Date 2/25/18 came in at 2:30 is now 7:30. Still have yet to be seen. For severe muscle spasms, hard breathing, and complications walking with cerebral palsy. I was here and then a whole bunch of people came in after me. Everyone was seen and got a room, yet I m here still waiting. More people keep coming in, and keep pushing me to the side. By far for how many stars this hospital gets, I m surprised I m giving it a one. I m disabled permanently and have severe issues that need to be treated ASAP. Being pushed as not that important of an individual pisses me so far off. I was sent here from my hospital at home to be seen immediately, and just am sitting here still waiting for a permanent possible muscle issue. Thanks Shands, love you guys
Absolutely terrible. Currently suffering with an awful case of strep throat. I went to the EMERGENCY ROOM, and I ve been waiting over 3 hours. That is unacceptable for any hospital
BUYER BEWARE when accessing medical care at Shands Orthopedic Institute. Although the individual employees exhibit proficiency and kindness, Shands billing and coding practices are disingenuous, at best, and downright deceitful at worst. Receiving the copay bills three months after completing surgery and physical therapy, was a shock. Many of my copay bills were 3 times my usual insurance adjusted amounts due to Shands billing the "Institute" as a "hospital". Another set of copay bills included seeing several "specialists" within one doctor visit, without indication that being shuffled among individuals constituted separate billings, especially since it mostly regarded signing paperwork for future services. Calling the billing department simply resulted in being told, (Shands providers) "have no responsibility to inform the patient about how services would be billed or coded. It is the responsibility of the patient to ask question before accepting services." My recommendation is to take a billing and coding course prior to accessing care, so you can ask the "correct questions" before accepting their course of care. Or better yet, choose a more trustworthy care provider.
We have been here for 2 hours and 30 minutes waiting. The people here were rude and they could not help estimate how much longer we would wait. When we asked how much longer we would wait they informed us that there had been people who waited 9 hours to get attention. This is super disappointing because this is supposed to be the best hospital here. This is supposed to be an emergency room, a place where you re supposed to get helped quickly.
Transported to Shands/UF for chest pains on 11.Feb.13. I was given a 'cocktail' to check for heart murmur (as I was informed by the nurse mixing it). In reality it was to stop a possible indigestion condition that I am unable to have due to a gastric by-pass (that the ER staff knew about beforehand). The result was to crash my blood pressure and set off the alarms. For an hour and a half I was using the call alarm for assistance and the only response I got was 'be there in a moment', all the while other Doctors and nurses were passing in the hallway to stop and look into the room and walk away. Not their problem I guess. To to completely honest, the staff on the seventh floor were attentive and helpful, but that doesn't mean much if you can't survive the ER first. Overall, I would rather have a full blown heart attack in the ambulance on the way to North Florida Regional then to ever be in Shands at UF again.
No help at all nurses have no bed side manners an doctors just don't know. We drove along way hoping that this place could help my husband or at least tell us a diagnosis. No clue what a joke a waist on our time. Would not recommend this hospital to any one. Not a very clean facility either. They need a lot more training an practicing before trying to play the part or trying to act like a professional.
Oh boy, where to start. We got there and he had blood taken at 2a.m., we waited in the waiting room until 5a.m. We made it back and waited to actually see a ANYONE until 7a.m. They ordered an ultrasound (he's now had an IV in his arm WITH NO IV BAGS ATTACHED TO IT since 2a.m.). At 9a.m. it's now two hours past when they ordered the ultrasound or were supposed to start the IV fluids, I'm ticked beyond belief. 9:30a.m. they take him for an ultrasound. 10:15 we make it back to his "room 9". It's now 10:45/11 and we ask about the IV since it's now been almost four hours since they were supposed to do it and NP says "oh, they were supposed to do that hours ago" and I'm like "yes, we know." They hang IV fluids at 11, add on IV anti nausea and stomach relaxant/pain meds. It takes until about 1:30p.m. to finish and diagnosis, Gastroenteritis, a bad case of it. Pharmacy took until about 2:30p.m. He and I made lunch (rice and cream of chicken) and finish eating at 4, lay down for a nap, wake up this morning at 7:30a.m. from exhaustion. They had to pack with not one but two liters of IV fluids. Probably because THEY WAITED 9 HOURS TO DO IT. THERE WERE ONLY FIVE OR SIX OTHER PEOPLE in the waiting room before us. It took them three hours to let six people back. It was like watching a traffic jam with no accidents. Hospital was badly organized. They had one NP (no Dr) running all 10+ ER rooms. She was the most calm of anyone. And there were air bubbles in his IV and when I asked, one nurse was angry and said 'it's fine' and I'm sitting here like 'bubbles in IVs aren't fine, but okay???' All in all, thank goodness he's okay now, but that was the worst ER experience I've ever been a part of and I have both volunteered at a hospital and am studying nursing.
Outstanding care, staff and health system. I ve been in health care for 15 years and have run large hospitals, this place got it right. Thank you to the neuro/cardiovascular tower, specifically Paige, MaryLee, Dr Barkley, Dr Ashley, Dr Amdur, Dr Aman or Rhaman and Justine (Nurse Manager). We felt like family and they made the hardest part of our lives to date manageable. Thank you guys from the bottom of our hearts! Go Noles!
I Had a daughter who was born with cleft lip and she had surgery On May 5th 2020 and during the surgery noone called.me and updated me about how she was even the doctor never came down to talk to me at all the nurses even told my husband that my daughter had no father and they keep calling us everyday for new appointments.
I'm from out of town, so I didn't know not to go here. Spent 7 hours vomiting, with a high fever and signs of tachacardia. They didn't even give me the decency to offer me a blanket while I was sitting in that waiting room vomiting so retched that I urinated on myself. i left their waiting room waiting and was never seen by a Dr. (Along with many other people, I left). Can't leave negative stars, so they get 1 they don't deserve! ER check in staff have no clue what they were doing. Didn't even know some common medications. Narcissistic bearded murse treated me like I wasnt a human, a bigger man went up to him and was yelling about not being seen yet and he greeted him and sent him back with a room. I went up there after 7 hours to speak to him because he seemed like he cared with the other man and I was wrong!!!! Turns out he knew that man was bigger than him and probably would have punched him in his pie hole had he talked to him the same way he talked to me! The grey headed older woman didn't get off her butt one time to help any patients and the older murse that was considering dating on tender said after I told him I was leaving that he didn't know what my expectations were?? Teaching hospital? What are they teaching them? This hell hospital story has much more I could say about, but you get the jist. Don't go here
The doctors and their secretaries that call and harass you about appointments do nothing but make you feel as if you are part of their experiment instead of being there for treatment as a patient. I am always ashamed and embarrassed when we take my daughter to see these so called doctors.
If I could give a zero star rating for Shands I would. The doctors who work in the emergency room are the most careless doctors I have ever encountered. Earlier this year, I went to the ER for an unbearable headache. After spending seven hours in the ER, I was sent home misdiagnosed and without any antibiotics. They told me I had a respiratory infection. Two MONTHS later I get a letter in the mail stating my test results came back abnormal. Turns out I had strep throat. Not to mention, it was obvious my doctors wanted to work on other patients who suffered trauma rather than help me. Never going back.
The ER is cruel and horrible but so is North Florida's so there's not much competition.
The ICU is also a horrible environment where people go crazy with ICU delirium from the noise and 24 hour bright lights.
The hospital rooms of the North tower are also terrible. How do they expect two people to be in the same room? People drive each other mad and TV volumes compete.
Now the good news... The nurses in the ICU are great and on the floor they are better than north Florida.
Doctors are very good but tend to treat the chart not the patient.
The New South tower is awesome with private rooms and good nurses. Hopefully they take the North towers down and copy the south.
My son rushed to the hospital. When asking to leave 3 nurses came into his and shut the door behind them and told him he was being admitted. Even though he had already been there for several hours. They stayed giving him meds to keep him medicated even after he asked to leave several times. I encountered a woman named "Vivian" who wasn't the nicest person, as she was downright unfriendly. The other people we came in contact with were excellent, kind and caring. I understand this is a teaching hospital but trying to "experiment" on people may not be the best way to when there isn't anything wrong a person may be a bit extreme. I've been told they are the best hopefully this is true and I hope we don't have to go back. We only experienced good care from the certain people we came in contact with, overall yes the hospital is good but the practices and procedures need some work.
I was under the impression that Shands is an advanced hospital. My mom was recently admitted and during her stay she was given fried chicken and macaroni and cheese for dinner. My mom is a type 2 diabetic and has heart disease, along with many other ailments. When the staff was questioned about my mom's food, we were told that the nutritionist said that fried chicken and macaroni and cheese was an appropriate meal for my mom. Keeping them sick so they'll keep coming back must be the motto. Try a little harder people of Shands.
ER Staff (especially front-desk) is VERY pleasant and helpful but these wait times are absolutely ridiculous. We're about to enter 5 hours in the ER waiting room for a simple wrist sprain. This is awful, Shands please get your act together because this is unacceptable in health care.
People tend to complain. I am here to complement Shand's ER, surgeons (Dr. Iams), staff, dental school, Physical therapists, and financial aid. All of which I have experienced for myself. Yes there is a sometimes long wait at the ER for those who don't have a life threatening situation. As an example, I lived in Saint Petersburg, Fl, had a gallbladder attack and waited hours in the ER because others needed immediate care for accidents, heart attacks and major bleeding, all more serious for a gallbladder. I know it is frustrating at the time, but try to think about others who are in more serious condition than you or your loved one. Also remember you or your loved one will receive the same help from the dedicated staff as they gave to the patient before you. Be grateful that there is a place willing and more than able to help you. God Bless You and keep you in His loving hands.
The Pediatric Dentistry DPT is amazing. I ve been coming here for 3 years & it s always an amazing experience. My son cracked his tooth & Dr. Clance Tanisha provided Excellent service .
I was transported from Capital Regional in Tallahassee to Shands due to a carcinoid tumor in my left lower lobe in my lung. I have received nothing but great care from all of my nurses. This is the best hospital that I have ever been to and the staff is top notch. Not to mention their food is amazing. I m very impressed.
UF Health hospital is a industry leaders in innovation, quality patient care, clinical research, and have received recognition across various publications. It s a 5 star hospital in my book.
My son's life was saved by this Hospital Dr Read. To be specific, my son was a very high risk and he gave him 144 additional days of Life finally his body gave out and he died from kidney failure and heart problems nothing to do with Dr. Read and the gastrointestinal Department. No matter where we were in this Hospital these people really care they really try and they communicate exceptionally. I will love them forever
Worst patient care you could imagine. The staff is completely unprofessional, and they have no compassion at all. I was lied to multiple times throughout the process. Was told I was being held against my will and if I tried to leave they would tackle and restrain me; only to be told later I could have left whenever I wanted, and I should have left sooner if I didn't want such a high bill. Waited over 6 hours to see a doctor and received no medical attention and was charged over $1000. They should not call themselves health care professionals. They are basically criminals and they should be ashamed of themselves.
After my dad was dishcharged with heart problems we were on the way to get him and while he was waiting the security guards made him leave and walk a mile and a half down the road just because he was discharged...
This place is HORRIBLE! I thought it was great but it isn t!. Don t come here! We waited for almost 7 hours!. We needed major medical help and they didn t do a damn thing!. We just waited and waited. DO NOT COME HERE. Some staff was rude as well. I DO NOT RECOMMONED COMING HERE.
I was employed as an RN at UF Health Shands for 25+ years total. I reported a Pediatric Social Worker (Kimberly Bryn Handley) for illegally reading a child's medical record solely to gossip about the child's obesity. The Pediatric Social Worker was suspended for 3 days due to her illegal and unethical behavior. Apparently her Daddy (Craig Handley) is a wealthy Freemason & Italian mobster, and he and his UF Shands Social Worker daughter initiated the Freemason mafia gangstalking protocol (also called "The White Glove Treatment" and "Fair Game", depending upon the satanic cult that initiates it).
My harassment at work was organized by the Director of Patient and Family Resources/Case Management (Kay Severson), and I was forced to quit in November 2016 as I believed my life was in danger after receiving the head of a cat in the mail (I do cat rescue), having an "air freshener" to which I was highly allergic sprayed repeatedly in my workspace, multiple break-ins to my condo, a nail in my tire, etc.
The ongoing, covert, violent, organized harassment continues with ongoing hacking of all my electronic devices, blacklisting so that I can't get even a volunteer job, much less a paying job, continued killing/dismembering of cats at the feral colony I care for (feed/spay/neuter), being followed in my car, character assassination, and much more.
UF Health Shands Hospital's covert affiliation with organized crime is clear. Please read my Facebook Community page, "UF Health Shands Hospital Gainesville Florida-Unofficial" to learn more.
Horrible experience with the Psychiatric Hospital, and ECT treatment facility. The ER is very small and the nursing and tech staff are un-empathic and have absolutely no compassion. Vista, the psychiatric hospital resembles a medieval state mental hospital with all the budget cutbacks, many helpful therapies have been eliminated and just the overall way that place is run now is very unethical...sigh hope my small opinion helps someone in choosing a better place for care, a place where people care.
If I can give a negative star I would but since this is a not a choice I am rating them one star. About a month ago a referral was sent to Shands Liver Transplant Unit from my sister's hepatologist who cares for patients in Kissimmee Florida. When I called to inquire about an appointment I was advised they have not received any information. I contacted the hepatologist to request that the medical records be faxed over. I then contacted Shands to confirm that they had received the medical records and at this point 3 to 4 days later, I called to request her appointment and the representative that picked up the phone advised Dr. Cabrera is requesting additional medical records. The next day I sent over the additional medical records and 72 hours later I was told by the representative that picked up the phone that Dr. Cabrera noted the information that I faxed over was useless and was requesting additional records. He was also questioning elements of her care that were documented in the records that were sent, leading me to worry that he had not accurately reviewed her case. Today I called to inquire about the status of her appointment, a full 14 days after the referral was placed, only to be told Dr. Cabrera request that we go to a facility closer to home. Not only is Dr. Cabrera declining to take care of my sister, he also wasted valuable time that I could have spent pursing other referrals to other physicians in this highly specialized field. Should you like to pursue liver transplant from this facility, please be advised that you may be turned away due distance of where you live and you must be aggressively proactive in scheduling your appointment
I was referred to UF Shands by my primary physician due to my condition "being out of her realm of experience". While setting up my appointment, I was told the hospital takes every BCBS plan except for the one I have. They took it last year but dropped them this year. I asked if I could pay cash to be seen. I was told they do not accept cash payment. I asked if I came in the ER and said I had no insurance, would I be seen then, to which again I was told NO. I understand this is a privately run hospital, but it's also a learning hospital. If the 9 specialists I've seen in my town can't figure my condition out and have all referred me to UF & Mayo, don't you think I'd be a perfect patient for a "teaching" hospital?? BTW....Mayo in Jacksonville told me the exact same thing. They won't take my insurance but would gladly charge me $5,000 for the consult. So now I don't know where else to turn while I waste away waiting for a doctor to practice their oath to "Do No Harm" & try to treat me
Extraordinary and exceptional level of care pre and post operative for very involved shoulder surgery. The level of care and attention post OP is highly commendable.
The staff and facility are amazing. This is not the Shands of old days. This is the view of the Garden of Hope behind the cancer center. Picture doesn't do it justice.
The saying is: Go to shands dead they will bring u back to life go alive, they ll kill you! Went via ambulance complaining of chest pains. Vitals stable for the most part. I was lightheaded felt as if I was fighting for my life literally!!! I could not breath as I waited in the waiting area that they redirected me to. Still fighting I left and caught a ride to North Florida Regional Medical! I am thankful I did because what I didn t know was the history of my family having pulmonary embolisms and other blood clots! Now that I m better and I know my risks and what have what I need to survive I am still afraid to trust shands with my life! Being 27yr with major health issues is nonexistent to Shands ER! Nothing processed to anyone to check my Symptoms and use Judgement that this was abnormal. Didn t even take a urine sample to see if their was any other factors that would have contributed to my complaint. I m still hurt about this!
The problem that I have with this hospital is that you can never get an Answer to anything. You try to contact doctors about you situation and they are impossible to talk to try the aap no one answers back try to ask anything and they kick it down the road no one knows anything it's really getting frustrating..But the worst part is that it is dangerous when they don't reply ..ends up you need to go to another hospital that they dont know anything about you and must start all over ..total lack of follow up and can't get anyone to respond I live 2 hours away so phone or text is the only way...like the people thier but that doesn't help my problem hope they can fix this...
Waited almost 6 hours before finally getting a room after we told them that we were just gonna leave and go to North Florida. One of the nurses literally ran outside to grab us and tell us that there was a room that they were cleaning up for us. Smh. Its bad to when the nurses at the front desk all told us that they wouldn't even come here on their day off because they dont want to wait and think this place is a joke themselves. How come when we get back to the room though on the way the nurse tells us that they aren't that busy back here and i dont know why people are waiting this long. This is the worst hospital in the entire state of Florida.
Good hospital but they do NOT schedule appointments over the phone correctly. They gave me a 9:40 am appointment for a cat scan but did not get me in until well after 10:30am. They said I was scheduled at 10:40 am when I have a letter telling me 9:40 am. I have 4 other appointments here today. I am not a happy person today. I would not recommend this hospital unless you have nothing else to do that day.
I would rather travel to Orlando, Jax or Tampa. My only and last ER visit to Shands ended with me walking out. After the registering nurse beat the crap out of her computer, calling it sev. derogatory names, she very curtly decided my doctor was wrong, I didn't need to be in the ER and I needed to find a new doctor (this was the first person/impression I got). She was such an angry loon, I left and drove home.
I have seen sev. specialty docs at Shands and my primary (for now) is a UF doc. To sum up Shands in general. There are three types of tier 2 hospitals in Fla that specialize:
The Mayo - quick, pro active, efficient, everyone that works there shows compassion, tag line for the Mayo - "git er done"
The Moffitt - very compassionate, gentle, efficient, generally want to solve and fix, tag line for the Moffitt - "you're not leaving here, til we figure out what's wrong with you"
Shands - we're the best, we don't have to like you or be competent...because we're the best....test, test, run more test, as long as you have insurance...test, test, test. Did we say, we're the best? tag line - "if you have an out of pocket maximum, we'll help you meet it, then send you off to be someone else's problem to fix, we just need experience for our students...we didn't say we were going to fix you...Dugh!"
The most pretentious, patronizing, dismissive medical community in North Central Florida...and Florida in general. They need to change the name to UF and drop Shands altogether, because this Hospital is equivalent to going to a massage school for a massage or a beauty school for a hair cut - you already know going in, it's a crap shoot on what your experience will be, you just hope for the best. For all the money and freebies this school gets, for all the money home owners have to shell out to pay what UF doesn't, you'd think the powers that be would strive to set a precedent rather than give birth to arrogant, lazy, belittling medical professionals.
Stay away from this place...the only good care is on the ICU floors..once you get moved out of there the other floors don't care. .a few nights he never received a dinner tray and nothing was done about it..the list goes on ..it was a nightmare
My daughter had the worst experience possible in labor and delivery at Shands University of Florida Hospital. 3 days in labor and 28 hours after her water broke before these idiot student, so called Doctors were forced to do a c-section, and the because the Doctors are in training, she could not get her prescritions filled. Do not use this Hospital if you care about your well being.
I'd give negative stars if I could. Got here at 8:30 for abdominal pain was waiting for 10 hours and still no doctors and no answers. If it was life threatening, I would have died. Also the nurses are absolutely rude and do not care about the patients.
They literally brought my father back from the dead. He had Hodgkins lymphoma and sever lung infection. They somehow brought him can to a 100 percent within a month.
My husband shader his leg to the point a nearby hospital said you will never walk again. We demanded to be sent here, three years later he walks as if nothing has happened. The health care team is VERY polite, they explain things in ENGLISH so that you can understand what they are telling you. My point is, if you had a bad experience then YOU are the one that mad it bad.
Docs are good and honest. The staff in the burn unit 90% are a joke! Do not care about your pain, to busy joking around and stating smart as remarks to the patient. They are weak!!!
On 8/9/2013 my brother was transported from Shands Live Oak,Fl. emergency room to Shands Gainesville to be admitted . He had bladder cancer and his kidneys was shutting down . A couple of days went by and a Doctor Borde said he needed a procedure that would extend his life and so he agreed to have the procedure done. He was doing great .He ask to go home ,well he was put off . Then the next day he was moved from the 6th floor to the I.C.U. floor, I think the 2nd floor .When I asked why he was being moved they told me that he had got sick during the night . I was there in the room[I SPENT THE NIGHT] with him ,he didn't get sick . In short ,they wanted to keep him in the hospital because of money from Medicaid and Medicare. Then came Debra Davis the pain management person ,against our wishes they increased his morphine ,pain medication. They kept him so doped up he couldn't stay awake to even eat. I seen my brother getting too thin ,his chest bones showing. When I asked about this they informed me he got everything he needed from his IV. .They also informed us there was nothing more they could do for him . IF YOU CAN'T DO ANYTHING LET HIM GO HOME.EVERYDAY WE ASKED THAT HE BE ALLOWED TO GO HOME,A DATE OF RELEASE. NOTHING !! HE AND I BEGGED THAT HE BE RELEASED ,THEY REFUSED .. AFTER SPEAKING TO A FRIEND THAT WORKS AS A ADMINSTRATOR AT A NURSING HOME ADVISED ME TO REQUEST AN AMA FORM.. On the 8/27/2013 I INFORMED THEM I WANTED A {AMA} form AGAINST MEDICAL ADVICE . Which they refused to get for me . But did have me sign a DO NOT RESUSCITATE ORDER.STATING IT WOULD BREAK HIS CHEST BONES IF HE WAS RESUSCITATED. AFTER I SIGNED THE ORDER ,I WALKED BACK IN THE ROOM WHERE I AND ARNOLD [ MY BROTHER] HAD BEING TALKING ,WATCHING TV. MINTUES EARLIER . HE NOW LAID THERE NO MOVEMENT.WHEN I ASKED WHY ? THE NURSE STATED" I GAVE HIM SOMETHING TO TAKE THE EDGE OFF FOR THE TRANSPORT TO HOSPICE." . THEY HAD INFORMED ME THAT HOSPICE WOULD TEND ALL HIS NEEDS AND WITHIN 24 HOURS I COULD TAKE HIM HOME FROM HOSPICE .WHICH THEY LIED THEY DID NOT PUT AN IV ON HIM, JUST OXYGEN AT HOSPICE. . NOW SENDING HIM TO HOSPICE WHICH WASN'T A BIT BETTER . BUT AT LEAST THE HOSPICE ADMINSTATOR ON 8/28/2013 DID TELL ME MY BROTHER HAD LESS THAN 2 DAYS TO LIVE AND LAKE CITY HOSPICE TRANSPORTED MY BROTHER HOME AT 4: 00 PM THAT SAME DAY. WHEN I EXPLAINED I THOUGHT HE HAD TO GO TO HOSPICE BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAVE ANY WAY OF GETTING HIM AN IV. MY BROTHER DIDN'T DIE FROM HIS CANCER BUT FROM PNEUMONIA .AT THE HOSPITAL I HAD SEEN A BREATHING MACHINE [THE KIND YOU BLOW INTO BUT HE COULDN'T HAVE DONE ANY BREATHING TREATMENTS THAT REQUIRED ANY ACTIVITY ON HIS PART BECAUSE THEY HAD HIM KNOCKED OUT WITH MORPHINE .I WOULD SUE THEM TO THE HILT BUT I CAN'T GET A LAWYER TO TAKE THE CASE BECAUSE I AM NOT A CHILD OR THE SPOUSE . JUST A SISTER. THAT LOVES AND MISSES HIM . HE DIED ON 8/29/2013 . WHATEVER TIME HE HAD ,HE COULD HAVE BEEN HOME WITH HIS FAMILY SHANDS YOU CHEATED US OUT OF DAYS WITH HIM FOR WHAT , MONEY. WHERE DO YOU GET OFF TELLING PEOPLE THAT IF YOU RESUSCITATE , IT WILL BREAK THEIR CHEST ..PEOPLE ARE RESUSCITATED ALL THE TIME AND AFTER , LIVE NORMAL LIVES. I KNOW YOU TELL PEOPLE THIS .YOU TOLD MY FRIEND'S HUSBAND THE SAME THING ,SHE DIED 12/22/2013 FROM PNEUMONIA. I RATE THIS PLACE A ZERO. THE LAW NEEDS TO BE ENFORCED YOU CAN'T BE HELD AGAINST YOUR WILL OR THE WILL OF YOUR SURROGATE [ WHICH I WAS.] YOU TREATED MY BROTHER AS IF HE WAS A HOSTAGE ....... .. LIKE HIS CHOICE DIDN'T MATTER .HE DIDN'T MATTER TO YOU , JUST...... $$$$$$$$ .HE WAS A GOOD MAN ,HE DESERVED BETTER....... . AFTER THE MEDICATION THAT NURSE KATHY GAVE HIM AT SHANDS FOR THE TRANSPORT , HE NEVER TALKED AGAIN. BUT I MADE SURE HIS FAMILY TALKED TO HIM,READ GOD'S WORD TO HIM. HE DIED AT HOME . BJH 1/14/2014
This place sucks my wife drove there because it's supposed to be this really great Hospital. Just to sit in the waiting room for 10 hours. They took her urine and blood and still had to sit in the waiting room with an IV in her arm just to be told it's going to be at least another 4 to 6 hours just to be seen. Now there has been something going on with my wife for the past 2 years and these Tallahassee hospitals sucks so we decided to drive to this place hoping for answers but had to wait and wait for nothing to be done. Let me tell you it sucks to see the one you love suffer because other people are lazy and don't want to do anything but let me tell you this we have 5 kids all under the age of 7 and if something happens I'm going to sue so many people. I suggest everyone that really are looking for help, don't wasted your time here. You might be dead before they even put you in a room.
