We visited for a few hours during a nearby camping excursion. Delicious vegan lunch for $10 suggested donation. Great meditation led by staff at noon. Lovely, calming vibe with students on silent retreat and cute chipmunks darting around everywhere. Beautiful chupa a short hike up the hill with cool breezes blowing, even in July. We had a wonderful, peaceful experience here.

I am really disappointed by these folks.

I am really disappointed by these folks.
I signed myself and my wife up for a retreat a few weeks before our home was flooded and made inaccessible by the Boulder County Flooding on 9/12/13. Our home is smack dab in the middle of a presidentially declared FEMA disaster. We ended up being okay and were evacuated by helicopter on 9/16/13.

The roads to our home were demolished. We left behind everything that did not fit in a single back pack each. Our vehicles are still sitting in our driveway unable to ford the washed out road. I remembered that we were signed up for a retreat and called to explain our situation. I ended up talking to several people who assured me that the Shambhala Mountain Center was "in the same boat" as we were...

Really? I wondered how their phone worked and how they could conduct a retreat. All of our food spoiled after the power went out. Is this a brown bag retreat? Our house is uninhabitable. I guess this is an opportunity for practice. Still I cannot imagine treating someone the way we were treated.
Not only did we never get a straight answer we still have not gotten a refund, a call back or even an answer to our very plain question... Could we have a refund. I was given several refunds after the flooding... Even my roofer... Not so with Shambhala Mountain Center.

I do not appreciate being treated this way and I am very surprised indeed. I hope the center needs our money worse than we do. I doubt it is possible. It is actually funny now, a "buddhist" retreat center adding to our sadness and stress level in the least responsible and totally un-compassionate way. I guess it is a joke. It sure looks that way from where I sit.

Stayed there last summer. The food is surprisingly delicious and complete with healthy vegan and protein options. The programs and staff are as amazing as the land is itself. I'm excited to go back for more.

Challenging terrain - in my heart.

Challenging terrain - in my heart.
Gets moved, by sitting still.
The food is relief, and I am feeling nourished,
even as my self expands:
to nothingness,
to suffering,
to the pain of being,
to feel all beings.

Take a long walk down the dirt path, slowly.
Let your face open to a smile.
No matter what is happening here or there or back home-
You recognize yourself in the green trees, the deer, and
you awaken as you see the Stupa ahead.
Let any moment be an opportunity.

Great meditative place to visit! Beautiful scenic views at The Great Stupa of Dharmakaya with informative video played on loop at a cabin nearby (Stupa Visitors' Center) detailing it's creation. Either hike up to the Stupa from below or drive up a dirt road for handicap access. Be mindful that road conditions can be challenging during wet and wintering seasons. Visit the Shambhala Mountain Gift Store for a great assortment of reading material and much more. I go here annually with my family and enjoy the hike, views and gift store.

Peaceful, kind, wonderful space. I have a cherished memory of time spent here with one of my dear friends with whom I first experienced the beauty of Buddhism. The simplicity, quiet, and calmness are refreshing. And the food is very good, too!

This is an absolutely beautiful and unique treasure tucked into the Rocky Mountains. I have been coming to the Shambhala annually since I was a kid, and even as an adult who has been here many times, I still experience child like wonder and amazement each time I see the Stupa!

Please go visit Shambhala. The walk up to the Stupa is gorgeous and the tip of the Stupa shines through the trees as you make your way up. The Great Stupa itself is amazing and the ambiance in the area is so serene and calming.

All the staff we dealt with were very friendly and their gift shop has an amazing selection.

Beautiful location and a huge range of accommodations and sacred spaces. Then there is the perimeter hiking trail and the Stupa. Oh and a Shinto shrine. And a lovely gift shop. Do whatever it takes to get here at least once.

A truly sublime area deep in the Colorado mountains. Entire staff from teachers to drivers are deeply thoughtful and welcoming. The property is immaculately maintained, with many of the buildings blending in with the surroundings, lending to the feeling of utter seclusion and solitude. The sunrises are spectacular and the sunsets unforgettable. A transformative experience for anyone that I highly recommend.

I needed to cancel a reservation and they promised my (lots) of money back but then were super flaky and did not return my phone calls. They wanted me to leave my credit card info on a voicemail. Really? Still waiting on my $1100 back months later. Gorgeous place but not up to their own ethical standards.

A wonderful hidden gem in the Poudre/Redfeather area. Open daily (including labor day) and free. The stupa is so well maintained, it never has a speck of dirt anywhere. The inside is beautiful and peaceful. Lots of other amenities like the tea house near the stupa, and the gift shop. Workshops and retreats for the more serious/less casual visitor. A lovely place to visit.

Great location and the stupa

Great location and the stupa
Is beyond Majical regardless of who or what u believe in it s a true place of warmth and comfort and compassion! Food was great and the acomadations were decent as well. A few on staff have hearts of gold but Don t expect the same from the the rest of the employees there as they are extremely rude and just not friendly what so ever which was a major disappointment for me!

I love Shambhala. It is incomparable in terms of beauty and the stupa is breathtaking. Going for a walk along the nicely maintained paths is like being in another world. The staff and guests are generally very friendly and helpful. Hundreds of volunteers put in thousands of hours to create this amazing place. I love chatting with people at meal time and hearing about where they're from (all over the world) and how they came to visit this place.

That being said, each year it is a different experience. Sometimes they have gifted chefs, other times not so much. You could have a lovely buffet with numerous choices or wind up eating bread and butter because you can't eat the one offering provided. The food is always delicious, but not always varied.

The office staff changes so sometimes things get mixed up and people aren't clear on what's happening - snow and wind can knock out service so you can't get through, reservations are lost, rooms changed, etc.

If you're looking for a spiritual experience and realize this is a nonprofit and not a professionally managed chain hotel and you can roll with unexpected situations, you'll probably enjoy it. But it can be frustrating for those of us who aren't quite as Zen.

What an experience! This place is unbelievably relaxing and yet engaging at the same time. The staff is all so kind and the location is just something else. I went for my birthday and it was really the exact experience and refresher I needed. I think it will become a regular part of my life.

Such a beautiful place to relax and recharge. You can meditate in the beautiful stupa and hike the magical trails for free or for a suggested $10 donation. They also offer a variety of retreats that I will definitely be trying soon. Highly recommended place to visit. It s also usually not too busy so you can relax without being surrounded by noisy people.

Today, the center continues his legacy by offering a wide range of programs that cater to people from all walks of life.

One of the most popular programs at Shambhala Mountain Center is their meditation retreats. These retreats are designed to help participants cultivate inner peace through various forms of meditation such as sitting meditation or walking meditation. The instructors are highly trained in different forms of mindfulness practices such as Vipassana or Zen Buddhism.

In addition to their meditation retreats, Shambhala Mountain Center also offers yoga classes that focus on physical postures (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama), and relaxation methods (savasana). These classes are suitable for both beginners and experienced practitioners alike.
