I called one of Selfridges Departments to request a psychic reading with the company Psychic Sisters. I requested a booking with a male reader as somethings I only want discuss with a male. The Lady on the phone was quite clear that they do not hire male readers and in a sarcastic tone told me that "Is why we are called The Psychic Sisters" I then asked if it was their Company policy not to hire male readers and the answer was a clear YES. I asked them why do they discriminate based on gender and reminded them that is was illegal to do so, my question was not met with any politeness to say the least. I told them that what they were doing was not right and it should be reported to The Local Authority to look into and correct. The Lady on the other end kept on saying "Goodbye, Goodbye, Goodbye" and put the phone down on me. Not Professional in the slightest and best to avoid these sort of companies. Mr. Selfridge would turn in his grave if he knew his store acted like this.....

Elegant, organized and posh
Words that came to my mind as I left heading back to the big Apple, where comparable stores are not, unfortunately!

It is quite chaotic in there, and the staff up at Karen Millen were up their own backsides as seems to be tradition for most shop assistants in Central London. Maybe I have out grown the excitement of "Selfridges", but last few visits have been unpleasant. Staff are either rude, or clearly trying to make commission on their wages. Customer service is appalling.

Voted as 'The Best Department Store in the World', the store prides its self on providing the highest quality merchandise and services. Its renowned reputation as a prominent store is truly reflected by the vast range of high end brands throughout the various floors. Beauty/Spa Treatments are available on the ground floor, including facials, messages, to light therapy. The Department store holds exclusive events, product reveals, limited edition items/products, great for those special purchases.
The Food Court has a variety of different foods, and there is a area to sit and relax and enjoy the surroundings.

What can I say about one of the best shopping experiences you will ever come across not only in the UK but the world. It really is a shoppers paradise all under one roof. Just when you thought it could not get any better, Selfridges surprised many people by adding a Cinema to the basement level of the store. Went to see the latest Star Wars film there.

However it's certainly worth going just for the experience and you can fit in a bit of retail shopping without having to walk very far.

A British, (albeit started by an American), institution. The must go-to place for anything and everything you need. Dozens of departments too many too list. Allow an entire morning or afternoon. Eat all your meals here at the superb redtaurants abd cafes. Buy exotic meats, fruit and veg in the food department to satisfy your epicurian tastes. Pick up a fondue set for your neice or some cast iron french saucepans from the kitchen section in the basement. If choice is king for you, this is the place.

The service is terrible but the store is nice and there s always something new happening at Selfridges. They ve done nice collaborations with various companies which makes the place more interesting. From my experience, I feel as if the staff aren t passionate about the companies that they are working for and fashion in general which is disappointing. However, the staff at the gown section were great.
Overall I hope that Selfridges improves their service and hires friendly and enthusiastic people to bring some life to the retail industry. I d rather have employees that are actually interested in fashion and the clothes that they are selling over whether they have had experience working at a high street brand.
For that reason, I have stopped going to Selfridges.

Loads of 'stuff' some lovely things but too big, somewhat disorganised and some of the concessions are understaffed.
Irritating habit of no prices on stuff.
Finally, the music is blazingly loud - closer to nightclub than department store. Ouch!

Department store with the now usuall shop within shop concept. I prefer to walk into a store and find what I'm looking for in exactly one place. I don't want to wander from one brand to the next only to see more of the same.

Definitely one of the best places to visit in London! You don't have to go for shopping only but the multiplicity of the place is offered also for a visit or a shopping Centre walk!

The place itself is amazing with all the designers however the staff are the problem . For an expensive luxury place the staff come across as scruffy . The girls on the door today had very messy hair that was not brushed or maintained properly . One girls hair colour was a complete box DIY job that was an absolute state . It looks unprofessional and if I went to work like that I'd be sent home immediately even the dress code wasn't stylish or professional. Disappointing
