Looking to create a family tradition? The Nutcracker is a timeless performance. Check out the website for helpful tips and advice for young children. They open an hour early, I recommend stopping by the shop and taking pictures during this time. ;)

We have been coming to the War Memorial Opera House for the last 10+ years. The Opera house is beautiful and always a treat. Besides having a good repertoire of the classics, the SF Opera always tries to bring modern operas to the stage. They are hit or miss but it's great that the opera supports modern composers! We got to see dream of the red chamber last year and it was really interesting.

Great foyer and views from the terrace, but otherwise uncomfortable seats and subpar view of the stage in any section that doesn't require expensive tickets. Certainly a far cry from neighboring Davies Symphony Hall, this historical building suffers from an outdated layout. Acoustics is fine, but not ideal.

Beautiful!!! Inside and out. Seating is very comfortable, but be aware that they do sink as you sit. So, standing up and out of your seat can be difficult. Aside from that, the acoustics are amazing and the stage can be seen just fine no matter how far back you're seated.

The seats are not strategically placed. I couldn't see the show I went to go see at this theatre. The person in front of me was barely taller than me, yet because of the bad seat placements, I wasted my time and money.

Beautiful venue with good seats from throughout the theatre. However, the restrooms are quite spread out and there isn't enough time to get a snack during intermission due to the distance, lines, etc. Worst of all, the ushers are rude as hell & can be disrespectful. You are not the police, remember that these shows cost us around $300 per seat before you demean others.

Home to SF ballet. A beautiful theater that has been maintained well. The chairs are very cushiony and comfortable in that respect, but room to move is limited - not much shoulder space. This is stereotypical of historic theatres though. There are ample bathrooms (not a long wait) and concession stands. Water costed $6, you can't bring your own in. Paper programs and booklets were complimentary. Staff very friendly and hospitable. I don't think there would be a bad seat in the house.

Beautiful theater - especially for ballet and opera. Seats are a little low and narrow, but once performance starts, you don t notice. The restrooms and powder rooms are pretty old and may need a revamp. Aircon works well. The staff are friendly and helpful, but make sure to order quickly at the concessions . Be sure to take the stairs up one side and down the other for full effect.

This is my home! I graced this stage many times many years ago while dancing with SFBallet. There is no better venue to witness the best ballet company in the world do what they do best. Dance!

Free Symphony but they way they li Ed us non members up and made us Stan for two hours like we were lower class citizens was handled poorly. There were only, maybe four members who want in ahead of us. They could easily have seated us and saved an area for members. Might get more member out of us if we were treated better. The concert was lovely

Came here to see Shun Yun during the last day. The Opera House has a old ancient classical feel. I just wish the stage was larger because even though I was in the middle right front row, it felt small.

Undoubtedly one of the great North American opera houses. One of the few (and very cherished) places you ll find people wearing suits and dresses in Silicon Valley. Excellent seasons, world class singers, and very attractive ticket discounts for young professionals.

This is a beautiful and historical place. Love spending the evening here seeing some of the best operas in the world. My wife and I have been going to the opera in San Francisco for many years now and have always loved the experience of this greand place.

I saw SF Ballet's The Little Mermaid. Fantastic! The venue is beautiful, I was in the balcony, but still had a good view of the stage. Plenty of refreshments, and minimal restroom-waiting time.

I love my city and love this Opera House. My very first visit was in the early 70's (15 years old) watching a standing room performance of Lucia with Sills and Pav. I had many memories of the Alder years!

Wow, a review, really?

Wow, a review, really?
Okay! Beautiful building, beautiful events. Overall a lovely experience, even if you don't see a performance at the opera house. I did see "Marriage of Figaro" yesterday and it was a wonderful and more modern production but still traditional. However, the opera house it self is iconic and, frankly, incredible.
If you want to see a beginner
friendly opera, though, this one is it!

San Francisco Opera went out of their way to make you feel welcome here with pre-performance insights 1 hour before the show. Being a subscriber made it all the nicer with a courtesy note at your seat welcoming you on your first subscriber performance. The roster of operatic artists is also good. I haven't been disappointed yet. They also give good transport directions and dining pointers on the night out.

I liked the historic vibe of the place. The architecture is amazing and I felt like I was a visitor of an era. Went to see the Nutcracker ballet which was magical and magnificent. The orchestra, the dancers, the stage sets, the props all came together to tell the story. I enjoyed it tremendously.

I go to the SFO Opera (and in January, the SF Ballet). The building is a blending of the old (circa 1900s) and the modern conviences expected in SF buildings. There is a buffet before each performance and other food and drink options on most floors of the building. I normally use SF MUNI bus to get to and from this building There is parking and restaurants about the surrounding area.
