They just opened in Dec 1st 2017. So glad I came here for dinner tonight. All you can eat sushi for $21.99 for dinner per person. Lunch is cheaper $13.50 per person! I'll be back soon with family and friends! Delicious food, drinks and atmosphere. Plus friendly fast made to order food by authentic caring staff.

This is our go-to sushi place in the Valley. The prices are low and the food is unbelievable. The Salmon Dynamite and Crunchy California Roll are two of my family's favorites. :) Staff is great!

This is my husbands favorite sushi place so we decided to book a table for his birthday for 3 couples. Total of 6 people. We had 2 drinks each, some apps to share and dinner. The bill came and I gave my card to the waitress, quickly glanced at the bill and was in shock at the price. I reviewed it and realized she added a service charge... (included the tip) but never informed us of this... Thank goodness I caught it or we would have given her a $120 tip! She was NOT good and this is sneaky behavior. We will not be returning.

Food is always good here. Service can be a little slow sometimes but the staff are always friendly and helpful. The place is on the smaller side so prepare for a wait if you plan to come on a weekend for dinner.

Truly one of the best sushi places in the valley with consistently fresh fish and an excellent selection including more exotic treats like blue find and uni. I prefer sashimi to rolls, but you'll also find a large menu of more economically priced rolls from traditional favorites to local creations. There is usually a wait on Friday and Saturday nights, but come a little later in the evening for quick seating. There is also tepanyaki, if you enjoy seeing a chef show off while you eat.

I love this place. Been coming here weekly for a few years now. They have a great Happy Hour with cheap appetizers when you buy a beer and at least 12 happy hour rolls. They don't skimp on size or quality at all. I'm more of a nigiri gal and that's always on point too. They recently did some renovations so it looks great as well. I've been to the other Sakana locations and this one is my favorite.

First time here, when we first sat down I was a little worried about eating here, I was looking for something a bit more high end. They don't have a lot of exotic fish, but what they do have is very fresh. Not talking about rolls here, sorry that is beneath me. I'm taking about sashimi and nigiri. The staff was also very friendly and the place has a homey vibe, the kind of place I grew up eating at in Hawaii. Will be back next time I'm in Phoenix!

Sakana Sushi & Grill has amazing sushi at reasonable prices. The serving sizes are relatively large for sushi, and the food is stellar. They have some of the best fish in the valley in my opinion. The menu has a great variety of rolls, nigiri, and other dishes available. Try the chirashi! Staff are generally courteous and food is ready within a reasonable amount of time.

We have loved Sakana for almost a decade when we lived near the Tempe location and enjoyed the Sakana lunch on our lunch breaks and then fast forward to enjoying sushi at all of the locations now, including lunch in Mesa with our new baby for a Saturday adventure and the premium Sakana lunch. Delicious!

semi decent sushi but was dispointed in the appearance and consistancy of my spring rolls which were soggy and the wasabi was so mild. I've never been able to put so much wasabi on my sushi and still have almost no spice. Granted this was a to go order but that shouldn't make the quality any less.
AFTER THIS THEY HAD THE AUDACITY TO WRITE IN A $5.00 TIP ON A $12.00 TOGO ORDER.
I WILL NEVER BE RETURNING!!

No one acknowledged when we walked in for several minutes. When we finally got sat no one came to the table for several more minutes. Servers walked right passed us and around us without saying anything. We just left. We didn t come out to get ignored and it s not like they were too busy to see us.

People talk this place up so i was excited, the rolls were on point but not everything. When I walked in i smelt a fish smell, unusual considering I'm getting over a cold and can't smell very well. When we sat down the rolls were super good but the sashimi was the real test there. Sashimi was not very fresh tasting to me, after coming off a sushi binge and recently getting more into sashimi I tried a few and it was eh, nothing special. Over all great experience.

My fav place for delicious sushi. Service is always timely even when they have a full house. Looking forward to a return trip. The place has a nice feel to it. Feeling here is similar to a cafe in San Jose I liked.

Great staff! Thank you Cynthia! The fish was fresh! For me, the rice was a little under cooked, and lacked the sushi su (AKA vinegar) taste, I'm used to in Japan. I like the name though! The Fish Sushi and Grill. Nice touch.

I love this place and I've been coming here for a while. Your lunch hours are awful. The days where you can grab lunch is super packed and you have long waits. Hopefully you go back to normal hours soon.

This is one of my favorite places to eat Japanese ...

This is one of my favorite places to eat Japanese food in the East Valley. The sushi is great and the quality of fish here is much better than most other places in the valley. But what really draws me here is their variety of alternative Japanese choices. Besides the traditional menu items you usually see at a sushi restaurant, they also offer a wide range of other options like Teppanyaki Grill, Traditional Japanese Ramen (and other noodle soups), and Chirashi bowls. And these are just a few examples, as their menu extends across many other non-traditional items.

FOOD:
My favorite thing to get here is their Old School Ramen. Of all the places in the valley that serve traditional Japanese Ramen, this place has one of the best. In fact, on the south-east side of the Phoenix valley, this would be my absolute first choice for Ramen. The Tonkotsu broth is very flavorful and the ingredients in the bowl are fresh. I get mine with extra Chashu pork because they make it amazing. The pork is so tender it practically melts in your mouth.
One item that they don t have listed on the menu (which they should) but you can order, is their Chirashi bowl. If you like a nice big serving and variety of raw fish and veggies over white rice, this is for you. It comes in a small and large. The large is LARGE so if you opt for the latter make sure you re nice and hungry or be ready to share. If you ve eaten sushi grade fish in Asia or California, you ll know how difficult it is to come across a good cut of fish in Phoenix, however, this place has some of the best fresh fish cuts I ve had in the valley. While it may not compare to the best-of-the-best in other places around the world, it will definitely leave your taste buds happy and your raw fish cravings satisfied.
If you re into the entertainment that comes with the whole Teppanyaki Grill experience, this place has it. I wouldn t put this place on the top of my list for Tappan but it s still fairly good. I d say this is a good place to come for a compromise if you happen to like raw fish dishes but your family or friends like cooked foods and a culinary show. You ll be happy and so will they.
If you re just going for the raw fish and don t feel like being bothered by any sides and distractions you ll like their thick cuts of sashimi. Like I mentioned before, fish here is fresh and good quality.
And finally, their sushi rolls, nigiri, and maki. All the traditional sushi rolls can be found here too and they will likely be better than in a lot of other places. Their specialty rolls are really good and some are very unique and let me say, as a person who can eat endless portions of rolls, some of their specialty rolls have put my eating abilities to the test.

PRICE:
Price is ok. It can lean slightly toward the pricier side without providing a very trendy atmosphere, but if you re like me, and you re main focus is the taste and quality of the food, it s well worth the price.

ATMOSPHERE:
Casual. Nothing fancy, but not run-down. If you re looking for a hip, trendy atmosphere, look elsewhere. If you re main concern is making your taste receptacles happy, come here.

SERVICE:
Mostly good. I ve eaten here countless times and most times my experience with the service has been very friendly. I ve had a couple of instances where our server got a bit snarky (won t go into detail since I haven t seen her around anymore). Sometimes the service can be slow, especially during busy hours. If you come around peak hours, expect to wait between 15-30 minutes to be seated. A small price to pay for good food but if you re hungry and about to pass out, bring a snack cause you might be waiting.

The best sushi place we've found around here - nice, well-made, tasty, creative rolls, plus a solid menu of the usual Japanese restaurant fare. Their service is sometimes a little spotty (server slow to come around, kitchen will serve out some of the items for the table near-instantly, other items won't come out until we're almost finished), but the food makes up for it - it's definitely our go-to.

Our food was great! I'm giving it one star because as I was watching the game behind the sushi bar I watched one of the chef's touch a to go box and receipts from the POS and not wash his hands. He never washed his hands before continuing to make food.
I didn't notice until we had just finished our food.

Love this place.
EXCELLENT quality for affordable prices; casual atmosphere. We have yet to find a place, anywhere, that can beat Sakana's. Make sure to try ebi-ebi and shrimp tempura.

This is my go-to sushi restaurant in the valley. It may not be the fanciest, and it may not be the cheapest, but I believe they strike the perfect balance. They manage to get some of the freshest fish I have found here, and have incredibly talented chefs. And what you pay for that quality is incredibly little. If you want the full experience, be sure to sit up at the sushi bar!

It was a bit cold today and while entering the Sakana Sushi & Grill restaurant I was thinking of a hot soup or something like that! After I got a seat and tried to get comfortable I saw a bowl of soup right in front of me which apparently that is the first thing they always do in any Hibachi chain or Japanese grilled fare. The word Hibachi means "a charcoal brassier", the origin of the word is Japanese and it was first used in 1863. The restaurant is cozy with deem lights and it is a dine-in and take out place which has been in this location for less than a year now but there are 3 or 4 others in other locations. The menu has a list of seafood dishes which made it easier for me to decide. I should add here that the word "Sakana" also means fish in Japanese language, however, the food is moderately expensive. Service was attentive but no delivery or catering services. There is a bar with all types of drinks. Accessibility conveniences are available for adults and children including for those who use wheel chair.

I have been a customer of this location since the first week they opened. i rarely go anywhere else in the valley for sushi. The Dynamite roll and flying fish roe I had this evening were amazing. Finished it off with a yellowtail KAMA!!! AMAZING. I sat at the sushi bar tonight and the only reason I do not have a 5 star is because I had to listen to the Hispanic workers talk way too loudly behind the bar, and also listen to them swear as they were cleaning up. I get that they were cleaning up, but...as a paying customer at the sushi bar, I feel they should have respected the fact that I was still eating, and they could have held their loud conversation in the back, instead of interrupting my meal with what ever it is they were talking about.

Didn't even get a chance to eat here. Virtually every sushi item has "spicy tuna" even the ones on the "not spicy sushi" section. A bit crowded for my taste, only 2 of 4 chairs at my table could be comfortably sat in.

Lost our benihanna reservation so decided to try this place out. Lets just say we will be coming here for teppanyaki from now on. Everything was delicious and the portions were huge. The samurai sushi was phenomenal probably one of the best sushi rolls we have ever had. There wasnt a single thing we had that wasnt good. Extremely impressed by this place. The prices and deals are also great.

When you open the doors, that lovely authentic Japanese kitchen aroma wafts in your face. That's how I know when it's going to be good. My Great Grandmother's kitchen smelled like that. You really can't go wrong with anything you decide to order. Wonderful service- refined and sincere, service qualities I have found to be rare in Phoenix. You won't be disappointed!
