Pretty amazing place. The cacti are amazing, and the amount of life that thrives in such a harsh environment is fascinating. The temperature in early March was ideal. Hiking was nice - a short jaunt to some cool petroglyphs, and a longer one up Hugh Norris that had a well marked trail ( give yourself enough time if you want to dip the while thing). Stayed for the sunset and the cacti silhouettes were pretty cool. All that said, I'm partial to other parks as far as scenery. The desert just lacks color and vibrancy to me.

Beautiful Saguaros and the Wildflowers were all in bloom. I hiked to Wasson Peak and it was a good hike! Would definitely recommend as a spring hike.

Such an awesome and unique scenery. I live in Cali and we don t get to see a whole lot of cactus. Learning about the different kinds of cactus and how long they have been around is astonishing. This national park is not to be missed if you are in Tucson.

Hot ! Super hot !! Sunscreen..lots of it, water...lots of it with electrolytes. Cactus...cactus and only cactus everywhere. 30 ft tall cactus that have arms that swing and will haunt you in your dreams ! The visitor center is well built in the middle of all the cactus and is much cooler. Small gift shop inside. If you're a first time visitor, recommend asking a ranger for quick trails and visit points. Rangers were super helpful, he drew on our park map and marked points of interest to visit taking into account the extremely hot temperature outside. We took the desert trail (golden gate road). You will see nothing but fields and fields of endless cacti. Green Mountain slopes...look closer...Cacti ! At mid summit there are native american built huts and petroglyphs. Saw a few rabits and many lizards on the trail. Luckily did not spot any rattlesnakes...but beware. They do hide at the base of the Saguaro where it is cooler. This is unlike any other National Park in the US. Enjoy !

Saguaro is name after the iconic plant which is found in the park, and throughout the southwest, the saguaro cactus. The saguaro is the world s largest cactus and has become synonymous with the entire southwest United States. The park is split into two sections (east and west) which are located on either side of the city of Tucson. The eastern unit is the larger of the two, but the western unit has much higher concentration of saguaro plants. Each unit is about 10 miles from the city of Tucson. This is good place for hiking !

Must visit place if you'd like to witness massive cactus plantation in huge number. You have the Saguru national park on two sides - East side and West Side with TUSCON between both. East side the cactus are less dense but we have a nice drive way into the national park. East side of Saguru national park doesn't have the drive way but Cactus are very densely spread out.

Designated a National Park in 1994 this unique NP actually consists of a west and east park on opposite sides of Tucson. The west side boasts 24k acres thats hotter and dryer while the east side is double the size with cooler temps and slightly wetter conditions. At both sides you will experience ultimate desert living, jack-rabbits and rattlesnakes are all around so be careful where you step. Be sure to take in the mass amount of cactus that inhabit this land and learn about how they grow and how long they survive. Hint: Most of what you see is 100-200 years old!

The park is absolutely spectacular! I had no idea that we would see so many saguaros. There are so many shapes and sizes it's almost as though their people. The reason this park didn't get a 5 out of 5 was because the Rangers were are not helpful. When we went to the visitor center and asked very specific questions about hiking 2 of the Rangers laughed about not having been on non-popular trails and 15 years. One of the Rangers actually commented that after our 1 day visit we will have seen more of the park than she has in recent memory. This is not acceptable or professional. In fact it's downright dangerous because park visitor is completely rely on Rangers to make recommendations. Now for us, being veteran and hikers, we worked it out but I worry about suburban families who are less familiar with the desert wilderness. That being said don't skip this park. Just make sure you do a lot of Internet research before you come.

Stop into the visitor center and check out the displays and talk to a ranger! We learned a lot at the displays and Rangers were helpful in suggesting hikes. This park is gorgeous, even if all you do is the drive through tour.

Meh. I'm not sure why this is a full fledged National Park. It's pretty, plenty of cacti, but frankly nothing that you can't see all over this part of the state.

Saturday evening , the 22nd of December, the Sun sets in the West and the Moon rises in the East close to the same time. We walked a trail and was greeted by the most amazing Sun set and Moon rise. The shadows of the Saguaros were inspiring. The Moon light actually lit our path. We did not need artificial light.

Saguaro National Park may not be for everyone, but...
Saguaro National Park may not be for everyone, but if you are visiting Tucson for the first time it is an incredible slice of the Sonoran Desert. Saguaros, probably the most iconic cactus, abound and visitors get a sense of what the Tucson valley may have felt like when settlers first arrived. I love taking visitors to watch the sunset from the top of Gates Pass or to walk the trails (but bring PLENTY of water, even in the winter months). Wildlife that you may see include desert tortoises (most likely only during or immediately after some rain), javalinas, coyotes, snakes, and numerous birds.
This is an easy part of a great day that can include the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum (perhaps my favorite thing to do in Tucson with out-of-town visitors) or Old Tucson Studios (kids love it).

We had a great time learning about the great Saguaro Cactus, hiking, reading, and learning about the desert ecosystem. A unique national park with its own kind of beauty. The rangers on site were so nice and friendly, telling us jokes, and educating us about the park. The store owner selling souvenir type stuff wasn t nearly as friendly. We had a great time at this park. I would go early spring or late fall and make sure to have plenty of water.
