My daughter took me here on my first visit to Tucson - it was enchanting! We saw many desert birds and lizards on the trails. for a N'Westerner, this was wonderful! Having never been in a desert climate I learned more at the
Interpretive Center.

Walking into this park is like walking into an old western. The classic cactus, when you think of one, the green thing with three arms sticking up, is the Saguaro cactus, and obviously, they are all over in this park and the surrounding area. In this park they allow you to hike up a "wash" which is where the water flows, if there is water, but it is such an arrid climate, it only flows after rains. There are multiple areas to view petroglyphs or stone carvings from native Americans. Nice park, but generally very hot, bring lots of water if you are hiking.

Contrary to what one might think, saguaros cacti are by no means everywhere in the western US but only in the Sonoran desert.

The Saguaro National Park is divided into two parts located to the west and east of the city of Tucson. The western part is more accessible and close to the Sonoran Desert Museum, so it is more crowded. The eastern part is more mountainous.

But on both sides, one has the opportunity to observe multiple specimens of these impressive cacti that can reach more than ten meters high.

Beware, the heat in the Tucson area in the summer is overwhelming and you have to plan a lot of water, even if you do not make any effort!

Multitude of great hiking trails for all experience levels. Took Kings Canyon and Gould Mine. First part of Kings Canyon is uphill and very rocky so bring a stick if you have weak ankles or poor balance. The rest of the hike is nice and well travelled so if you can make it up the first hill, the rest is a breeze. Of course bring water and food. No facilities that I could see at Kings Canyon trail head.

This place is absolutely gorgeous! Tons of saguaros and wildlife. Great places to park and hike as well. Historical monuments are placed around the park to teach visitors about the park. We really enjoyed ourselves.

This is by far my favorite park in the whole of Arizona. The swath of Sagauro cacti that can live for hundreds of years scatter the landscape and are viewed as a treasure locally. Stop and stand next to one. The sheer size is astounding!

Worth it! We we re headed up to Sedona, but took a quick detour later in the day to explore the east side of the park. Dense cacti forest + rolling hills. The cactus nature drive is only 9 miles and a beautiful escape from road tripping. It was 110 when we were there, so a slow cool scenic drive through the park was a welcomed retreat. Would love to come back and take more time to do both sides. A unique national park experience.

Awwwe what an amazing place - there must be millions of Saguaros. Never seen so many huge cacti in one place. Make sure to also visit Old Tucson if you have the chance - it is worth a visit, too.

If you like hiking, this is the place to go. There is a wide range of trails, varying in distance and difficulty. The rangers were extremely friendly and helped us find the perfect hikes for us based on how far we wanted to go and how challenging we wanted it, while still seeing all of the best parts. Lots of cacti and awesome views throughout the trails. On the west side, we hiked the Hugh Norris Trail & did the Bajada loop drive, and on the east side, we hiked the Ridge View Trail. Seriously, watch out for rattlesnakes!
