The rooms are modern and pleasant. location is convenient to a lot of places on Wellington. Nothing special but it does the job well

Walked in at some ridiculous hour and they were friendly and able to accommodate. Just wish I could have stayed longer!

Had a nice stay this weekend at Rydges. Check in was smooth, check out time was extended to 1:00 pm. Harbour view room was excellent . I have been here before and this place never disappoints. Definitely recommended

It's very good.... and near to waterfront, railway station, parliament etc. It's pleasant stay.....

Great location,clean rooms and plenty of pillows with compfy beds but chrge 2% for credit card (unheard of in any civilised country) and car park was 20$a night 2 years ago and now at 30$ so soon I cant visit anymore because the parking is too expensive

5 star hotel in city centre. No parking but can pay for valet and they park for you. Great restaurant in house. Lovely harbour views. Pool

The room was great, the harbour view was fabulous, bed was comfortable, location was great, however the noise of the air conditioning unit in the room was terrible. I have never stayed anywhere with such a noisy unit. I liken the sound to the constant engine sound on a long haul flight. We did turn the unit off on the second night but in the end it just got too hot so had to turn it on again.
Wanted to love the stay completely however would be unlikely to stay again just because of this.

Location is ok, but not very great value, feel like 4 star level only . Cost very high . Staff was not friendly . Restaurant's staff is terrible.

Nice rooms. Nice staff. Conveniently located close to historic buildings and train station.

We made a last minute booking through a booking agency and were very pleased with our choice. This was our time at Rydges and we were very happy with everything that the hotel had to offer.

Our room was clean, quiet and very comfortable, the staff were very helpful and polite, there was car parking available for us which as a definite bonus . We will absolutely be back.

Lovely breakfast, clean, neat room just a bit small for family of 4.

very impressed with the staff. Food great, room great, but the quality service and friendliness was the feature. Made up the room later in the afternoon at a time that suited when we went out for a bit and left the "please make up the room" sign out.
Only slip up was not a problem for us, but a couple of mini bar items were not replenished or charged, but we disclosed those or the charge might have been missed............ or you might have chased us down the road

Good place to stay. Food in the restaurant was amazing. Best Hotel breakfast I have ever had

My fiancee and I went there to kill some time before catching the train. Their Viennas are delicious, staff was super friendly and a nice, classy yet casual ambience in the heart of the CBD. Will definitely be back.

Great location, clean comfortable rooms, very good value for money

Great comfy bed, loved the bathroom night light too.

The good: location, next to the train station and walking distance to the Parliament, Te Papa (20 mins) etc.

The bad:
1. a premium is charged for a room with a city view. If you get a room on level 8 it's a waste of money. You literally look into another building, that's all. We expressed this concern and was moved to a room on level 12. To be honest the premium isn't worth the view. See pics.
2. We got a room with a HOB as travelled with kids. It's frustrating there was not a single pan available. You had to request these. Makes the experience hard
3. The room was not made the whole day. You're out for the whole day and the expectation is the room is cleaned and made. By the time you return. The house keepers turned up at 4.30pm to make the room. Makes the experience hard especially with kids.
4. The room wasn't super clean. Lots of dust on surfaces. There was mould on the bathroom door - see pic attached
5. The check-in was a cumbersome experience. It was busy when we arrived, we had to queue up and took about 30 minutes. Makes the experience hard.
6. Our room was booked for 4 occupants. But only 3 towels were there. Makes the experience hard.
7. The housekeepers didn't replenish body wash. Had to specifically request and wait to be delivered. Makes the experience hard after returning from a days walk with young kids
8. The service isn't efficient. We had to follow up on our requests. For example at check out, we asked for the coincerge's help with the bags. Only arrived 15 minutes later after a reminder.

All in all not the best stay. Unlikely to return.

Breakfast range: I know you cant cater to everyone but I was with someone who said everything had sugar regarding spreads and fruit salad.
Perhaps Vegemite and low sugar fruits.

Breakfast and accommodation (location & view) are hard to beat on our trip, I think.

I don't like your aircon system. God only knows how it works. The room was stuffy and too hot when I went in and fiddling with the remote didn't seem to do anything. If there's some sort of logic there I couldn't get it. Why can't you just have a heater and windows I could open? Alternatively get a decent simple system that works. Alternatively, send someone up with every guest with written instructions to give the guest a one hour session on how the stupid aircon works.
Everything else about the hotel was fine. Doesn't every guest complain about the ridiculous aircon - the people I was with at the hotel all said the couldn't work it and it was awful.

Friendly, clean and well priced place to stay. Close to great restaurants.

Top notch service and really good facilities. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Room was clean and comfortable. Free WiFi and pool, spa and gym were a really nice bonus.

Great stay. The restaurant was packed for breakfast with families. Well done to the brekkie staff for their great warmth and outstanding service.

For the price we paid it was exceptional. Rooms were very clean and tidy and bed was comfy. Partner and i would use again.

Pay top price for substandard room. Very dated room. Bath has plug on a chain mould around bath glass partition. Room full of dust. But comfortable bed.
Hotel resturant portlaner poor service lots of staff standing around Food you got what you paid for we ordered ribeye steak it was very good but that was allthat came. Was not told by staff that we had to order sides with it. Required us to ask for dessert menu and to clear plates after we sat there for 30 minutes after we had eaten mains. Would not recommend at all.
Advised front of hotel and resturant manager about above but not interested.

Generally a good hotel with very clean and comfortable rooms, the pools could be maintained to a better standard but the lap pool is a great length for exercise

Top notch. The service from front desk, room services and food department was impeccable. We stayed over during the Xmas period, even though they were busy, service was always up to standard. We had Xmas dinner here and it was simply exceptional. Breakfast was included for our stay. We loved the selection they had especially the healthy shots of juice. Loved our rooms. Very central to alot of things. Walking distance. It even made me sign up to they club membership.

Not great turned up at 2pm had 2 find own parking every 2 hours 2 move car wasn't the most relaxing time have had better times in backpackers and a lot cheaper than $220 that we paid and that's with 15%discount 1*and I'm been generous

Tidy place. It was a nice stay until the morning shower. Cold showers are never fun

Crappy valet parking.The car park valet couldn't get our car in with a roof box on so made us unpack all our roof box at 10pm when they finally let us know it wouldn't fit after having it all afternoon. We had to carry our roof box into the valet parking and then the next day found they had stuff all our stuff from the roof box into our cars seats and boot space without a care for it, other previous things in the car and scuffed up our car linings in the process. We paid a lot of money for this parking and it was a shambles.

Check in advance by e-mail if you can lend me a Bath robe, and can I borrow it from the receptionists even after I arrive? I asked if I could borrow it after confirming it, but he didn't prepare it.
Also, the TV remote control was not effective and I brought it to the front desk. When I brought the remote control, I asked them to lend me a bathrobe, and they also wrote it on the list, but they didn't bring it after all. If you can't, you should say you can't.
There was no problem with the room and meals.

I have requested for rent a bathrobe over 3times and accepted by receptionists. But did n t bring me bath robe.

And sent this e-mail to rydges. But unfortunately did n t reply to me.

I travel to Wellington a fair bit for work. By far this is my chosen hotel of choice in this area. They get the basics right. The staff know how to do their job, from first name welcomes as you walk in the door to the extra touches in the rooms from time to time this place can not be beat. Nothing is ever a problem, and they always go the extra mile!

Plus there are all the other things you expect from a good hotel but don't always seem to get - The beds are so good, the rooms are fresh, warm, clean and modern - and its like this EVERY time you stay. there is no worry and concern of getting the "bad room" or the "noisy room" that you sometimes have with other hotels, they are just simply consistently great. Relaxing after a hard day in the office!

PS The buffet breakfast in the house restaurant is also one of the best around New Zealand!

Highly recommend the say - give it ago!

While it was extremely busy becos of WOW and it being school holidays I didn't appreciate the price gouging. The room was average -shower over bath, one teaspoon, nescafe coffee, and one easy chair for 2 people. Definitely not worth $340 per night. Won't be back.

Very good location Very good disposition of the staff.

Missed the buffet breakfast due to covid...room air conditioning didn't work very well just heated the room up....older style room... Staff on the first day where disorangised... Plus was close to buses and waterfront and parliament

Excellent! Stayed for one night and this place was great. Good size rooms, comfy beds good size bathrooms. Breakfast was also excellent - very good selection and good quality food constantly being topped up. Well located so within walking distance of all the mains areas. Lots of restaurants and bars all within 15 minutes walk.

Great service and price. Breakfast didn't have enough variety for vegans or vegetarians.

I don't normally write reviews, but this was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. The only reason it gets 1 star at all is because the staff were polite to me on arrival, and check in was quick and easy. Also because the bed was comfortable.

From there on it was the worst experience I have had at any supposedly reputable hotel.

There were empty alcohol bottles in the kitchen cupboard. This didn't bother me, cleaning an entire hotel every day can't be easy for the cleaning team.

I bought some groceries and went to cook, in what was supposed to be a furnished room. There were no pots or pans in the draws, there were no knives whatsoever except for two low quality butter knives.

So I decided I would order something from room service, or perhaps the hotel's restaurant. Unfortunately the supposedly acclaimed restaurant doesn't have a single vegan option on their menu...They have one dairy free option, which was ribs. They had one 'vegetarian' option, which was a side, and which was a salad.

So I decided to settle for something from the minibar. It was late, I had had a very long day attending the first day of a two day business event. However not only were there no pots or pans, knives etc., for me to cook the food I had bought, not only was the restaurant completely lacking and reminiscent of something you might expect 50 years ago, but there was also absolutely nothing in the advertised minibar.

On top of that there was a very large crack down the side of the wall, in my room.

Then on the way out in the morning, still hungry from having a poor excuse for a dinner from the local service station, I had to have meat fat waft right into my nose as I walked out the lobby to the following mornings business meeting. You might like the smell of meat fat, but some of us don't, and forcing it up my nostrils and into my clothes on my way out of the building isn't something that I appreciate at all.

The staff member that I spoke to when leaving also came across fairly arrogantly, but perhaps this was just his demeanor on that particular day. Again not something that I was too bothered by.

If I knew that this hotel was going to be as bad as it was, I would have just checked into a backpackers.

I won't be staying here again, and have told all of my colleagues not to either.

New Zealand annoys me, all I can do is hand out 5 stars, I'm supposed to be objective but coming from the Uk I was spoilt on my visit compared to stay I'm used to for the money. The room we had was a corner room with an amazing view of the city! The room was just great and checking in very painless. It had a bath which is unusual which was nice after having a sore back. Can't fault it, really can't, just great stay and right next to the station as well, location, standard all perfect for the money.

Had a booking at the Thorndon Rydges and called in here by mistake. Staff were friendly and able to direct us to the correct hotel. Thanks.

Amazing time spent here, from ringing up to book til the time we left. Everyone of the staff does an awesome job and should pat themselves on the back. Staff are so friendly and very kind to the rooms being outstanding! Nothing wrong at all, will be staying back here in future and will be recommending this to everyone who stays in wellington!

Good hotel. Little disappointed the restaurant didn't ask for our discount card (which we did also forget about) but overall an enjoyable stay

Otherwise it's typical chain hotel,facilities were standard rydges. Location is 5 min walk from westpac stadium which was good for Beervana.

I have just stayed the weekend. The room was great. I only problem was from waiting to get serviced for our breakfast was a hour and a half. We arrived at 9am and left at 10.30am.
